The wrestling industry is known to be a highly competitive field, where numerous athletes fight their way to the limited top spots. Since everyone wants to earn their right to be in the limelight, tensions often fill the air as egos clash, leading to conflicts. However, the wrestling industry thrives on the concept of mutual respect.

As the calendar flipped over to bring in 2025, it signified an important point in wrestling history. John Cena, perhaps the most decorated WWE performer ever, will have his farewell tour this year. As he makes his final laps in the squared circle, many have been reflecting on his amazing career. Of course, the people who worked with Cena directly during his wrestling days have the best perspective and anecdotes to share.
In a recent radio show, current Tna star and host of Busted Open Radio, Nic Nemeth, reflected with his co-host Bully Ray on working with the Cenation Leader. In particular, he pointed to an interaction regarding Cena turning heel or changing his character, a long-standing topic of debate among fans. During an episode of Busted Open Radio, the former Dolph Ziggler talked about working closely with The Doctor of Thuganomics, and some of the creative decisions that were being made at the time.

A&e is deepening its partnership with the WWE — including adding an in-ring competition to its roster of programming.
The cable network has picked up a series called WWE Lfg, which will feature would-be pro wrestlers vying for a WWE contract while receiving training and coaching from in-ring legends Paul “Triple H” Levesque, the Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and others. A lot of Ecw fans may have gotten dj vu while watching Roman Reigns' phone call to Paul Heyman on last Friday's episode of WWE SmackDown. The ongoing Bloodline story arc reached its most interesting development, when Reigns tried to call his all-knowing advocate and Wiseman, only to learn the number is disconnected.
As Bubba "Bully" Ray Dudley expressed on Busted Open Radio, and in an accompanying X post, Roman Reigns' phone call to Paul Heyman on WWE SmackDown echoes another storyline from Paul Heyman's extreme alma mater, Ecw, in a story involving Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk. Dreamer would corroborate Bully's sentiment in an X post of his own, adding that while WWE's storyline heads into Survivor Series: WarGames, Dreamer's kindred storyline was heading into Ecw November to Remember 1996.

2024 has been an incredible year for professional wrestling, especially in the landscape of the WWE. Thanks to an announcement about a Netflix deal, a truly electrifying (and often hilarious) Rock return, and a scattered international presence, many wrestling fans will admit that WWE is great again. Most importantly, it's the matches which keep bringing fans back for more.
It's no secret that the actual in-ring wrestling comes secondary to storytelling, specifically in the sports entertainment environment of the WWE. The most important part of wrestling isn't always wrestling. Usually, it's the promos in WWE, or soap opera-esque storytelling on display. However, 2024 is a rare year where the wrestling has been just as compelling as the stories across the roster. Thankfully, WWE has been gracious enough to upload many of the year's best matches for free on YouTube.

Much of wrestling history reflects on how WCW was WWE's biggest competitor of the 90s, but Ecw can't be left out of that conversation. While Ecw wasn't on course to beat WWE in the ratings for 83 weeks like Eric Bischoff, Extreme Championship Wrestling did largely inspire many of the sensibilities of modern wrestling.
Before WWE quickly introduced inappropriate moments into the Attitude Era that they couldn't get away with today, Paul Heyman was booking even more extreme angles for Ecw. Before WCW had a hardcore division, Ecw was hardcore. Even to this day, Ecw leaves a mark on current wrestling, as WWE's Nxt brand headed to the classic 2300 Ecw arena in Philadelphia, showing that the legacy of Extreme is still alive in WWE. When looking at some of Ecw's most extreme moments, it's easy to see why wrestling fans find the promotion so unforgettable.

It is best known for being WWE's third brand, but tonight, Nxt paid tribute to Ecw as they took over the famous 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pa. The night was filled with cameos from Ecw staples like The Dudley Boyz, Dawn Marie, and Rhyno, and was opened by Nxt's first hardcore match between Jaida Parker and Lola Vice. Wes Lee would regret assaulting Rob Van Dam with a steel chair before his match with Je'von Evans, as Rvd then headed to ringside to distract Lee and enable Evans to get the win.
Nxt Women's Champion Roxanne Perez was pinned by Zaria, as the Australian shone in a 10-woman tag match between Giulia, Jordynne Grace, Kelani Jordan, Stephanie Vaquer & Zaria and Cora Jade, Fallon Henley, Jacy Jayne & Jazmyn Nyx and Perez. Warning: Spoilers for the September 30, 2024 episode of Monday Night Raw!Despite the obvious appeal of seeing two 350-pounds monsters destroy each other and the arena in a Last Monster Standing match, one WWE Hall of Famer expressed disappointment in Raw's latest main event. Heading into the September 30th episode of Monday Night Raw, no storyline had become hotter than that between Braun Strowman and "Big" Bronson Reed. Rightfully so, their main event in a Last Monster Standing match was treated as one of the most eagerly anticipated TV wrestling contests in recent memory.
As heard in a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray, known to WWE audiences as Bubba Ray Dudley - inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a part of the Dudley Boyz, alongside D-Von - expressed the thought that the Last Monster Standing "fell a little short" of expectations. Bully Ray is not alone in his stance,...

WWE 2K24's Dlc disappoints fans with non-wrestler inclusions, causing backlash. The Pat McAfee Pack has received criticism for its almost entirely non-wrestler roster, delayed release, and PS5 download issues. WWE 2K25's Dlc should focus on building a diverse roster of actual wrestlers to avoid controversy and meet fan expectations.
No one is happy with the state of WWE 2K24 Dlc. This year's installment in the annual wrestling video game franchise has followed in its prdecessors' footsteps by putting out multiple Dlc releases, each containing a handful of new playable wrestlers, on a rough monthly schedule since launch.
Player responses to WWE 2K's Dlc releases tend to be mixed. Some players reject the idea of paying extra for a smattering of new wrestlers out of hand. Ultimately, the overall reception depends on how many popular wrestlers are in each pack - if a couple of big-name Nxt faces grace the cover,...

WWE is no new to long-term storytelling, and it seems the seeds for the next big rivalry have already been sown on Night One of WrestleMania 40. While initially it was supposed to be The Rock vs Roman Reigns, following the fans’ backlash, who were adamant about seeing Cody Rhodes finish his story, it was eventually scrapped.
With the Bloodline now coming on top on Night One, resulting in a Bloodline Rules match for the main event of Night Two, the American Nightmare might be in for a rough time tonight. However, following Reigns’ mistakes in the tag-team match against Rhodes and Seth Rollins, fans believe a betrayal from the Brahma Bull is likely.

Bully Ray/Bubba Ray Dudley made big bucks in his professional wrestling career, which has spanned Ecw, WWE, Tna, and WCW, among other promotions. Now in Ring of Honor, his money counting machine hasn’t slowed down, he told us. Ray (real name Mark LoMonaco), like RoH Supercard of Honor headliner Cody (do not call him “Cody Rhodes”) before him, assured us that there is “plenty of money to be made” in independent wrestling — a term that these days basically means any league that isn’t WWE. While no one in these smaller companies likes the “indie” moniker, they appreciate that the money is...

It’s a cliché and a half to say that everything can change during The Voice’s Battles. In fact, if Carson Daly said it, I’m sure I’d roll my eyes. But it’s also, weirdly, true.
