When the calendar turns to fall, the feel-good brand known for adorable rom-coms and low-stakes mysteries (not to mention greeting cards) ramps up its output, and that has never been more true than this year. In addition to all of the Countdown to Christmas titles on the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Mystery’s Miracles of Christmas slate, Hallmark+ is rolling out its own collection of streaming exclusive holiday series and movies. The "Twilight" Saga is one of those film franchises that is so ungodly profitable and popular in the zeitgeist that even people who have never seen a single clip beyond a gif of Edward Cullen sparkling in the sunlight and declaring "This is the skin of a killer, Bella" at least know the general story beats. It's a love triangle between the vampiric Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a werewolf named Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), and the most average girl in the world, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart). The entire "Twilight" phenomenon was stupid lightning in a stupid bottle, and I doubt author Stephenie Meyer could have ever predicted her relatively chaste, monster-loving Mormon stories had the power to completely change the landscape of teen girl cinema forever.
But the "Twilight" movies have a lot more going on in them beyond the #TeamEdward #TeamJacob #TeamBellaGoesToCollegeAndDatesAroundABit wars. I asked some of the /Film staffers...

Exclusive: Meghan Leathers (For All Mankind) and Candice Coke (Proven Innocent) are set to recur opposite Eric Petersen and Annie Murphy in AMC’s dark comedy series Kevin Can F*** Himself, from Valerie Armstrong, Rashida Jones and Will McCormack and AMC Studios.
Created and executive produced by Armstrong, Kevin Can F*** Himself probes the secret life of a type of woman we all grew up believing we knew: the sitcom wife (Murphy). It looks to break television convention and ask what the world looks like through her eyes. Alternating between single-camera realism and multi-camera comedy, the formats will inform one another as we imagine what happens when the sitcom wife escapes her confines, and takes the lead in her own life.
In addition to Petersen and Murphy, they join previously announced Raymond Lee, Brian Howe, Mary Hollis Inboden and Alex Bonifer.

Acorn TV has unveiled its latest original commission — a thriller set against the magnificent backdrop of New Zealand’s south island.
The AMC Networks-owned streamer, which passed one million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada last week, has teamed up with Sky Nz and CBC in Canada to make The Sounds.
Created and co-written by author Sarah-Kate Lynch, the eight-part series is made by All3Media’s New Zealand production company South Pacific Pictures and Toronto-based Shaftesbury.
It follows a married couple who move to a new town to escape their family. But when Maggie’s husband Tom disappears, it re-opens old wounds and secrets about the seemingly close community in which they live.
The Sounds stars Rachelle Lefevre, who featured in CBS series Under the Dome and White House Down, and Narcos actor Matt Whelan in the lead roles. Multi-hyphenated Canadian Peter Stebbings is directing.

Fox is closing the case on Proven Innocent.
The crime drama has been canceled after one season, less than 24 hours after the conclusion of Proven Innocent Season 1.
The series averaged 2 million viewers and a 0.4 rating in the demo on Fridays this season.
Among Fox's sixteen scripted series, the show came in dead last, so the odds were always stacked against it making the cut for a sophomore season.

Fox’s legal drama Proven Innocent has been officially dismissed. The cancellation of the midseason series, from Danny Strong and Stacy Greenberg, comes about three months after its debut. It had been fully expected.
The procedural was poised to fill the Bones void on Fox. Since its premiere, the ratings have been steadily declining, which had a low debut as it had tough competition on a Friday night.
The series was set in a wrongful conviction firm. Led by a fierce and fearless female lawyer with a hunger for justice, the team reopens investigations, putting their own lives in danger to exonerate the innocent that were ‘proven’ guilty. Fox has canceled freshman series “Proven Innocent” after just one season. The series, which aired Fridays and starred Kelsey Grammer, centered on a legal team tackling wrongful conviction cases.
“Frasier” alum Grammer was not technically the lead of the 13-episode series — he was just the most recognizable name and face. The most lines went to character Madeline Scott, who was played by both Clare O’Connor (young) and Rachelle Lefevre (we’re not going to say “old”).
Grammer has been publicly peddling a “Frasier” revival, though as of the time of this writing, there were no known takers. Grammer has said that he envisions returns for not just his titular character but also Niles, Daphne and Roz.
His one request?
“I don’t want to go back to Seattle,” he told TheWrap back in August.

While the fictional overturned murder conviction at the center of “Proven Innocent” isn’t based on one particular real-life case, that doesn’t mean Fox’s new legal drama won’t be pulling from actual examples of people who were — and some who weren’t — proven innocent.
“For the case of the week, I wouldn’t say they’re ripped from the headlines,” executive producer and writer Danny Strong told TheWrap in an interview ahead of “Proven Innocent’s” series premiere last Friday. “They are usually very loosely inspired from a case that we’ve heard about. Like we wanted to do something on transgender issues or we wanted to do something on the racial hate movement, the death penalty, shaken baby syndrome.”
“Certainly, we’ve been inspired by real-life cases too,” Strong added, before detailing one that he truly became obsessed with while working on the show’s first season.

Succeeding Hell’s Kitchen, that marks a demo low for that Fox time slot this TV season, and I have to reckon it’s the network’s lowest rated drama launch in a while — and that’s including (blast from the past alert!) The last time Rachelle Lefevre led a TV drama, she was trapped Under the Dome in the mysteriously encased town of Chester’s Mill.
Fortunately, there are no domes to be found in Lefevre’s new series, Proven Innocent, but it does take place somewhere equally stressful: the courtroom. (Seriously, Chester’s Mill will start to look pretty inviting after going up against Chicago’s toughest prosecutor.)
Proven Innocent made its debut on Fox Friday night — but before you tell us what you thought of Episode 1, let’s recap what went down in the premiere:

“Proven Innocent” wants to help the hopeless but can’t save itself from its ill-equipped noble intentions. Created by David Elliott — known for testosterone-laden fare like “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” — Fox’s new legal drama plays like a dude-bro who has suddenly found wokeness, now that he’s become a father of daughters.
In the series, Rachelle Lefevre stars as Maddie Scott, an attorney whose clunkily monikered Injustice Defense Group exonerates the wrongly convicted. Maddie has a fire in her after she and her brother Levi (Riley Smith) were sent to prison as teenagers for a murder they didn’t commit. Not only will Maddie help others like herself, but she’s also determined to take down Gore Bellows (Kelsey Grammer), the prosecutor in the fateful trial against her years ago. He’s still at it, and the two butt heads as Maddie turns up evidence to undo...

Sometimes inspiration can strike in unexpected places. For writer and producer Danny Strong, watching a documentary about Amanda Knox proved to be the impetus that led to him co-creating (with David Elliot) the new Fox drama “Proven Innocent.”
“Watching the documentary on her case made me want to do something on wrongful conviction, because I was so enraged by it,” Strong tells Variety. “In these wrongful conviction cases the cops have no interest in them because the person’s been found guilty and is in prison; it’s closed. So wrongful conviction lawyers have to be their own investigators, and it can be very dangerous for them. And I thought, ‘Oh so it’s not just a straight legal show, it’s an investigation show, too’ and that just seemed really cool to me.”

Sneak Peek the new legal drama TV series "Proven Innocent", created by David Elliot, starring Rachelle Lefevre, Russell Hornsby, Nikki M. James, Vincent Kartheiser, Riley Smith, Kelsey Grammer and Clare O'Connor, premiering February 15, 2019 on Fox:
"...'Proven Innocent' is set in a 'wrongful conviction' firm, led by 'Madeline Scott' (Lefevre) a fierce and fearless female lawyer with a hunger for justice, as the team reopens investigations, putting their own lives in danger to exonerate the innocent that were 'proven' guilty by a politically motivated, two-tired justice system.
"Scott's motivation comes from her infamous past, As a young adult she was found guilty and later exonerated in a high-profile case in which she became a tabloid sensation, household name and national celebrity.
"While a hero and a victim to some, her bold and bullish tactics garner her some enemies. One of whom will do anything to see...

The new Fox drama “Proven Innocent” would seem to be made for a moment in which many are looking more closely at the methods of prosecutors and seeing excesses in the criminal-justice system. Rachelle Lefevre plays Madeline Scott, imprisoned for years thanks in part to the zealous attention of a prosecutor (Kelsey Grammer) but then exonerated on appeal. In order, at first, to foil her nemesis’ run for political office, she makes it her mission to find people he’d put in jail who don’t deserve to be there — to, as the title says, prove the imprisoned innocent.
And it’s there that the show stumbles. The show’s obsession with “innocence” as a concept doesn’t in fact comport with the legal system’s privileging “guilt” or its absence. In our world, those who are let off by the legal system cannot be proven guilty; in this show’s,...
