Sad news from the world of comedy today as beloved funnyman Tony Slattery has passed away.

He was 65 years old.

News of Slattery’s death comes to us courtesy of a statement issued by his family:

The press release revealed that Tony died on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack earlier in the week.

“It is with great sadness we must announce actor and comedian Tony Slattery, aged 65, has passed away today, Tuesday morning, following a heart attack on Sunday evening,” the statement read, according to the BBC.

Born into a working-class family in London, Slattery won a scholarship to Cambridge in his teens.

It was there that he honed his craft and formed friendships with fellow actors like Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.

Tony Slattery, star of Channel 4‘s Whose Line Is It Anyway? and contemporary of Emma Thompson, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry, has died. He was 65.

In a statement given to the BBC on behalf of Slattery’s partner, Mark Michael Hutchinson said: “It is with great sadness we must announce actor and comedian Tony Slattery, aged 65, has passed away today, Tuesday morning, following a heart attack on Sunday evening.”

The British actor and comedian was famed for his quick wit and improv on the popular comedy show, but also featured in films like Peter’s Friends (1992), alongside his Cambridge University peers Thompson, Laurie and Fry, and The Crying Game (1989).

Slattery received an Olivier Award nomination for best comedy performance for his role as Gordon in Tim Firth’s Neville’s Island.

His Dark Materials and Help writer Jack Thorne has been recognized for Outstanding Contribution to Writing at tonight’s 29th Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Awards (WGGBAs), with Russell T Davies, Emerald Fennell and Armando Iannucci also taking home gongs.

Whitfield passed “peacefully” on Friday night, her agent told BBC.

Born in London, the actress’ career stretched back to the 1940s and included roles in the “Carry On” film franchise and the sitcom “Terry and June,” which ran from 1979-1987. Whitman also had appearances in 2016’s “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie,” “Friends,” “East Enders,” and was featured in more more than 1,300 radio and television shows.

2016 looks to be a particularly strong year for UK crime drama, with Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire, Adam Smith’s Trespass Against Us and Michael Apted’s Unlocked on their way. Military thrillers are also well represented this year, with Gavin Hood’s Eye In The Sky, Fernando Coimbra’s Sand Castle, and Simon West’s Stratton incoming. An Absolutely Fabulous movie is finally happening, and Helen Lederer has "every confidence" that it will be a hit.

Lederer will reprise her role as Catriona, Patsy's dim-witted magazine colleague, and will start filming her scenes this month.

"It's lovely to be invited to be in it after so long," she told Digital Spy. "I'm looking forward to seeing all the people again. It will be nice. It will be like a school reunion but where you drop in and have a laugh and go home again happy."

Back in 1966, when Elizabeth is a young and unsure spy, she hangs out with Leanne to talk about babies while washing blood off the hands from a mission. Leanne already has her first baby -- the boy who is, in the present-day of "The Americans," the teenage Jared -- and has written him a letter. The idea is that if she and Emmett get killed or arrested, the letter will explain why.

Elizabeth promises to deliver that letter if necessary. And then she lets Philip impregnate her.

Yes, lying about all day watching TV is great but nine times out of ten when someone writes something like this, I can guarantee that they don’t have kids. For those of us with small children, the television we regularly watch throughout the day comes from a vastly different landscape. To the childless, names such as Makka Pakka, Tree Fu Tom and Yo Jo Jo may mean very little. To some us though they’ve become household names, as our lives are filled...

Never has there been a sitcom as confusing as "Super Fun Night." Ok, that's probably an exaggeration, but what a frustrating show this was in its first (and likely only) season, which wrapped on Wednesday (Feb. 19).

When the Rebel Wilson-created sitcom premiered on ABC this fall, it seemed like such a wasted opportunity. Fresh off "Bridesmaids" and "Pitch Perfect," Wilson's star was white-hot, so a sitcom built around her brand of comedy felt like a sure-fire hit. Unfortunately, it wasn't.

ABC has ordered "Super Fun Night," starring Rebel Wilson, to series, along with other comedies "The Goldbergs," "Back in the Game," "Mixology" and "Trophy Wife."

The half-hour "Super Fun Night" centers on Junior attorney Kimmie Boubier (Wilson) and her two best friends Helen-Alice (Liza Lapira) and Marika (Lauren Ash), who have had a standing date every Friday night for the last 13 years. They even have a motto for what they call “Friday Night Fun Night”: “Always together! Always Inside!”

However, Kimmie’s recent promotion throws a monkey wrench into the tradition. Not only is she now working with her idol, “Lady Lawyer of the Year” Felicity Vanderstone (Kelen Coleman), but she meets a dashingly handsome British attorney, Richard Lovell (Kevin Bishop), who invites her to his party at a trendy club. In the brand new show Old Jack’s Boat, the title character boards his boat Rainbow and tells fun filled underwater stories to his ever attendant dog Salty. The first fifteen minute edition was based around him telling a short story about a friendly mermaid who lost her pearl earrings. The story was suitably amusing for a CBeebies show and it featured an array of wacky characters including talking sea creatures who wore clothes and helped the mermaid to locate her earrings.

The show is created by former Doctor Who producer Russell T. Davies and features an “All-Star” line-up. The cast includes Bernard Cribbins (Jack) and Freema Agyeman from Doctor Who, as well as Helen Lederer (Blackadder). It is sure to be a hit with the little ones and one or two older folks!

Chicago – Some of the finest names in modern independent cinema may be garnering their largest audiences to date when the anthology horror film, “V/H/S,” is released on October 5th. It combines five horror shorts with a “wraparound” tale in which an assortment of troublemaking vandals (including “Open Five” director Kentucker Audley) search a spooky house for a priceless VHS tape.

This segment, “Tape 56,” was directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett, two accomplished filmmakers in their own right, who have collaborated on horror films such as “A Horrible Way to Die” and “You’re Next.” Barrett also wrote and co-produced the “V/H/S” segment entitled “The Sick Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger,” which was directed by Chicago’s own Joe Swanberg (Wingard served as photographer and sound designer). Tom Baker has praised his late 'Doctor Who' sidekick Mary Tamm as a ''darling companion''. Other child actors joining Theo Stevenson in the titular role and an all-star cast including Richard E Grant and Anjelica Houston in the new 3D feature film adaptation of Horrid Henry have now also been announced.

The two young newcomers are Scarlett Stitt, who attends the Haberdasher's Aske Junior School in Elstree, as Moody Margaret, and Ross Marron as Horrid Henry's younger brother Perfect Peter. Red-haired 11 year old Scarlett (represented by Young Actors Theatre) beat thousands of other children to the part even though it was her first audition.

And playing Rude Ralph is 11 year old Lloyd Howells (represented by A&J Management) from East Grinstead (pictured right).

The previously announced cast includes Prunella Scales, Parminda Nagra, Noel Fielding, David Schneider, Jo Brand, Rebecca Front and Helen Lederer with Mat Horne and Siobhan Hayes as Henry's long-suffering parents.

12 year old Theo Stevenson from Essex has landed the lead role in Vertigo Films 3D big screen adaptation of the successful Francesca Simon's books Horrid Henry.

Theo (represented by Independent Talent) is an experienced young actor on stage and screen with roles in Young Vic theatre productions and the feature films In Bruges and Fred Claus. He will also be seen as Jake Rubin in up-coming feature Re-Uniting the Rubins, a comedy about a completely dysfunctional Jewish family.

Horrid Henry is about to start shooting and the all-star cast includes Prunella Scales, Parminda Nagra, Noel Fielding, David Schneider, Jo Brand and Helen Lederer with Mat Horne (Gavin and Stacey) and Siobhan Hayes as Henry's long-suffering parents.

Kelly Brook and Rob James-Collier have been named among the stars confirmed for the new cast of Calendar Girls. Julie Goodyear, Janie Dee, Arabella Weir, Helen Lederer, Debbie Chazen and Jan Leeming will also star in the production at the Noel Coward theatre. Glamour model Brook, 29, who found TV fame on The Big Breakfast, has previously appeared in the West End in Neil Labute's comedy Fat Pig.
