Exclusive: Amazon will not be proceeding with a second season of single-camera comedy Dinner With The Parents. The news comes eight months after the series, a remake of the long-running British comedy Friday Night Dinner, launched on Amazon Freevee.

The free, ad-supported video on demand streaming service was recently shut down, with existing Freevee series migrating to Prime Video. Dinner With The Parents was one of the last remaining Freevee originals whose fate had not been decided.

Dinner with The Parents, from CBS Studios and Big Talk, centers around a weekly family get-together that always devolves into chaos. Every Friday evening, the closely-knit Langers prove that it takes those we love best to bring out our worst.

Michaela Watkins and Dan Bakkedahl led the cast as the parents, with Henry Hall, Daniel Thrasher and Carol Kane also starring.

“Derry Girls” creator Lisa McGee has started production on her upcoming comedy thriller series “How to Get to Heaven From Belfast” in Northern Ireland and has revealed the lead cast for the Netflix show.

Roísín Gallagher, Sinéad Keenan and Caoilfhionn Dunne will play Saoirse, Robyn and Dara, three childhood friends, now in their late 30s, who come together over news of a fourth friend’s death, leading them on a what’s described as a “dark, dangerous and hilarious odyssey” through Ireland and beyond as they try to piece together the truth of the past.

“I couldn’t be more excited to start production on ‘How To Get To Heaven From Belfast,'” said McGee, who create and wrote the series and serves as exec producer. “I’ve loved writing Saoirse, Robyn and Dara — three flawed, funny women who are about to embark on the most thrilling and terrifying adventure of their lives.

“How to Get to Heaven From Belfast,” the new series from “Derry Girls” creator Lisa McGee, has moved to Netflix from Channel 4.

Produced by Hat Trick Productions, the comedy thriller will start shooting in Northern Ireland later this year.

The project was announced by Channel 4 in August 2023. In a statement to Variety, the network cited “changes in editorial direction” and “rising costs” as to why the series could no longer move forward there.

Michaela Watkins and Veep alum Dan Bakkedahl will lead the cast of Amazon Freevee’s series Dinner with the Parents, a remake of the long-running British comedy Friday Night Dinner, which is being produced by CBS Studios and Big Talk.

In the single-camera Dinner with the Parents, which has a straight-to-series order, two brothers in their 20s go to their mom (Watkins) and dad’s (Bakkedahl) for dinner each week and somehow get through it without actually, physically, dying of embarrassment.

Bakkedahl plays the dad, Harvey Langer, a “dad joke” in human form. He a suburban dentist trying to fend off a midlife crisis by wearing aloha shirts and playing in a garage band called the Spin Dentists. Desperate for attention, Harvey finds a way to make every Friday night about him.

Exclusive: Friday Night Dinner is coming to the U.S.

Amazon Freevee has handed a straight-to-series order to Dinner with the Parents, a remake of the long-running British comedy, which comes from former Late Show with David Letterman writer Jon Beckerman, The Outlaws producer Big Talk and CBS Studios.

It marks the fourth attempt to remake the show — which ran for nearly 10 years in the UK on Channel 4 — in the U.S. and the first to get past the development stage. It has scored a 10-episode order.

U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 has unveiled the first Season 3 still and trailer for the show, which garnered global popularity via Netflix. The drama is created and written by Lisa McGee, who mined her own experiences growing up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles.

While Season 1 observed the gang navigating their teens in 1990s Derry against a backdrop of The Troubles, Season 2 charted the group navigating their parents, parties, love interests and school against the backdrop of a precarious peace process. In Season 3 — which still doesn’t have a launch date on Channel 4 — viewers will see that while Northern Ireland is growing up, “this gang of eejits certainly aren’t anytime soon.”

Arrested Development star Will Arnett has joined the cast of The First Team, the BBC2 comedy from the creators of The Inbetweeners.

Iain Morris and Damon Beesley’s six-part series follows the misadventures of three young soccer players and Arnett will play their team’s eccentric American chairman.

Shaquille Ali-Yebuah, Jack McMullen (The Souvenir), Jake Short lead the cast, with the comedy currently in production.

The First Team is produced by Morris and Beesley’s indie Fudge Park, while BBC Studios is providing financing and is handling international sales.

Roseanne and That ‘70s Show producer Tom Werner is executive producing alongside Caroline Leddy, who worked on The Inbetweeners and Derry Girls.

Morris and Beesley said: “We’re so lucky to be working with such an incredible bunch, some new faces and some we’ve worked with over the years, all making us laugh enormously.

Will Arnett and Chris Geere will star as the chairman and coach of an English soccer team, respectively, in “The First Team,” a new comedy for the BBC from the producers of “The Inbetweeners.”

The series will follow the off-the-field misadventures of three young soccer players played by Shaquille Ali-Yebuah (“The Feed”), Jack McMullen (“The Souvenir”) and Jake Short (“This Is the Year”).

The six-parter is being written by Iain Morris and Damon Beesley through their Fudge Park shingle. It is their first projects as co-writers since “The Inbetweeners” series and films. Emmy Award-winning producer Tom Werner (“Roseanne”) and Caroline Leddy (“Derry Girls”) are exec producing. Sam Pinnell (“Motherland”) is producing.

Roseanne and The Connors exec producer Tom Werner has partnered with the creators of British cult comedy The Inbetweeners for a new soccer comedy.

BBC Two has commissioned Afternoons (w/t), a six-part comedy that follows the off-the-pitch misadventures of three young soccer players on a fictional English Premier Club team.

Werner, Chairman of Liverpool, one of the most successful British soccer teams ever, will exec produce the series, which is being written and showrun by Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, alongside Caroline Leddy, who worked on The Inbetweeners as well as C4 comedy Derry Girls.

The show focuses on the footballer’s friendship; these boys from around the world are far less proficient with women, money and social media than they are at scoring goals.

Derry Girls is only two episodes in, but Channel 4 have a hit on their hands...

Channel 4 have struck gold with their new sitcom Derry Girls.

Their biggest new comedy in almost five years, Channel 4 rushed to renew Lisa McGee's show for a second series this week, after only two episodes had aired. They went on to confirm that another six episodes are in the pipeline, and if they've got their ducks in a row, we could very well see series 2 on screen before the end of 2018.

ABC has given a pilot order to Raised by Wolves, a single-camera comedy from Juno writer Diablo Cody and Berlanti Productions.

Written by Cody, Raised by Wolves is an adaptation of the 2015 UK comedy series. It centers on Sheila Gable, one tough mother struggling to support her five opinionated, eccentric kids on a shoestring budget in a Midwestern town.

This marks the second half-hour comedy pilot for Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Prods., which has six drama series on the air, following a project co-written by him and Greg Mailins, which was piloted by CBS five years ago.

It was Berlanti Prods. president Sarah Schechter who fell in love with the Channel 4 series Raised by Wolves, which was created and written by popular British columnist and author Caitlin Moran and her sister Caroline based on their childhood experience.

Plebs has been commissioned for a third series.

The ITV2 comedy series will return following strong numbers for the previous run, according to Broadcast.

The second series, which premiered last September, earned a consolidated audience of 924,000.

Plebs stars Joel Fry, Tom Rosenthal, Ryan Sampson, Sophie Colquhoun, Lydia Rose Bewley and Tom Basden.

It centres on three young men (Fry, Rosenthal, Sampson) who try to hold down jobs and climb the social ladder in Ancient Rome.

The sitcom debuted in March 2013, and is executive produced by Caroline Leddy and Sam Leifer.

Plebs has been named Best New Comedy Programme at this year's British Comedy Awards.

The ITV2 series, which focusses on the lives of terrible trio Marcus (Tom Rosenthal), Stylax (Joel Fry) and Grumio (Ryan Sampson) in Ancient Rome, beat BBC Two's Count Arthur Strong, BBC Three's Cuckoo and Sky Arts sketch show Psychobitches.
