Exclusive: Amazon will not be proceeding with a second season of single-camera comedy Dinner With The Parents. The news comes eight months after the series, a remake of the long-running British comedy Friday Night Dinner, launched on Amazon Freevee.
The free, ad-supported video on demand streaming service was recently shut down, with existing Freevee series migrating to Prime Video. Dinner With The Parents was one of the last remaining Freevee originals whose fate had not been decided.
Dinner with The Parents, from CBS Studios and Big Talk, centers around a weekly family get-together that always devolves into chaos. Every Friday evening, the closely-knit Langers prove that it takes those we love best to bring out our worst.
Michaela Watkins and Dan Bakkedahl led the cast as the parents, with Henry Hall, Daniel Thrasher and Carol Kane also starring.

“Derry Girls” creator Lisa McGee has started production on her upcoming comedy thriller series “How to Get to Heaven From Belfast” in Northern Ireland and has revealed the lead cast for the Netflix show.
Roísín Gallagher, Sinéad Keenan and Caoilfhionn Dunne will play Saoirse, Robyn and Dara, three childhood friends, now in their late 30s, who come together over news of a fourth friend’s death, leading them on a what’s described as a “dark, dangerous and hilarious odyssey” through Ireland and beyond as they try to piece together the truth of the past.
“I couldn’t be more excited to start production on ‘How To Get To Heaven From Belfast,'” said McGee, who create and wrote the series and serves as exec producer. “I’ve loved writing Saoirse, Robyn and Dara — three flawed, funny women who are about to embark on the most thrilling and terrifying adventure of their lives.

“How to Get to Heaven From Belfast,” the new series from “Derry Girls” creator Lisa McGee, has moved to Netflix from Channel 4.
Produced by Hat Trick Productions, the comedy thriller will start shooting in Northern Ireland later this year.
The project was announced by Channel 4 in August 2023. In a statement to Variety, the network cited “changes in editorial direction” and “rising costs” as to why the series could no longer move forward there.
“We loved Lisa McGee’s ‘How to Get to Heaven From Belfast’ and offered a substantial license fee to be its U.K. home,” a Channel 4 spokesperson said. “Unfortunately due to changes in editorial direction as the development process progressed, coupled with rising costs and the recent cooling in the U.S. co-production market, it became impossible to get the right international partner and funding plan in place. A first look at the third and final season of “Derry Girls” is finally here — and just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 has unveiled the first Season 3 still and trailer for the show, which garnered global popularity via Netflix. The drama is created and written by Lisa McGee, who mined her own experiences growing up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles.
While Season 1 observed the gang navigating their teens in 1990s Derry against a backdrop of The Troubles, Season 2 charted the group navigating their parents, parties, love interests and school against the backdrop of a precarious peace process. In Season 3 — which still doesn’t have a launch date on Channel 4 — viewers will see that while Northern Ireland is growing up, “this gang of eejits certainly aren’t anytime soon.”

Derry Girls is only two episodes in, but Channel 4 have a hit on their hands...
Channel 4 have struck gold with their new sitcom Derry Girls.
Their biggest new comedy in almost five years, Channel 4 rushed to renew Lisa McGee's show for a second series this week, after only two episodes had aired. They went on to confirm that another six episodes are in the pipeline, and if they've got their ducks in a row, we could very well see series 2 on screen before the end of 2018.
"Derry Girls is a blast of fresh air," said Ian Katz, Director of Programmes, in a statement. "It’s everything we want from Channel 4 comedy: young, warm, brimming with new talent and rooted in an underrepresented part of the country. And a hit to boot. I’m delighted that we’ve commissioned a second series and can’t wait...

ABC has given a pilot order to Raised by Wolves, a single-camera comedy from Juno writer Diablo Cody and Berlanti Productions.
Written by Cody, Raised by Wolves is an adaptation of the 2015 UK comedy series. It centers on Sheila Gable, one tough mother struggling to support her five opinionated, eccentric kids on a shoestring budget in a Midwestern town.
This marks the second half-hour comedy pilot for Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Prods., which has six drama series on the air, following a project co-written by him and Greg Mailins, which was piloted by CBS five years ago.
It was Berlanti Prods. president Sarah Schechter who fell in love with the Channel 4 series Raised by Wolves, which was created and written by popular British columnist and author Caitlin Moran and her sister Caroline based on their childhood experience.

The Inbetweeners co-creator Iain Morris has revealed that he and Damon Beesley would still like to make a second movie.
Morris and Beesley co-created The Inbetweeners for E4, and a follow-up film featuring Will, Jay, Simon and Neil on holiday in Malia became the highest-grossing British comedy of all time soon after its release in August 2011.

In an essay for UKTV's forthcoming free e-book Leading Lights (via The Guardian), Morris said that he wants to work with Beesley and Inbetweeners actors Simon Bird, James Buckley, Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison again - whether on an Inbetweeners movie sequel or a different project.
"I miss working with Damon, and I miss the boys. They are four of the most talented comedic actors of their generation, and it would be wonderful to get another project going with them," he wrote.

Following on from the previews figures that we saw last week, it’s no surprise that we’ve just heard that The Inbetweeners Movie (our review here) has raked in a massive £13.2m at the UK box office in the past 4 days breaking the previous record for a UK comedy which was previously held by Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason.
I’ve placed the official press release below for your viewing pleasure but with figures like this, does that mean that there could be room (or requirement?!) for a sequel to the extremely popular Channel 4 series movie? As an UK going audience, the answer would surely be yes!
During the Big Screen weekend last week, I attended The Inbetweeners panel which was attended by the writers of both the series and the movie, I asked that very question to the writers of The Inbetweeners, Iain Morris, Damon Beesley...

Campus is a brand new comedy set in the hotbed of academic mediocrity that is Kirke University. At its helm is the stubby, mercurial Vice Chancellor Jonty de Wolfe, who wants nothing more than to drench Kirke in the juices of his own greatness.
As a scary cloud of financial doom hovers over the gently crumbling 60s concrete, Jonty attempts to pimp up Kirke in any way he can, whether it’s faked alumni, kidnapped prodigies or a range of “Eau de Kirke” perfumery – but his lofty plans soar as gracefully as a porky tortoise and while the strangely unsettling puppet master plunges deeper into the pickle jar, the rest of Kirke’s assorted staff get sidetracked by the more urgent dilemma of who to sleep with next.
