Cruel Intentions star Brooke Lena Johnson, who portrays Beatrice Worth, has shared new insights about the direction of season 2. The Prime Video series reimagines the 1999 cult classic film, which itself was based on the 1782 novel, Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. The show explores themes of manipulation and ambition among a new generation of characters. Season 1 introduced Beatrice as a fiery student who challenges the system of sororities and fraternities, making her a key character in the show's complex landscape. While Cruel Intentions season 2 is not confirmed yet, there may already be an outline of the show's future.
During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant's Tatiana Hullender, Johnson hinted at major character developments and alliances in Cruel Intentions season 2. She emphasized the growing tensions between the characters, suggesting that unresolved conflicts from season 1 are going to evolve into a battle between opposing factions. Prime Videos Cruel Intentions TV show introduces a new generation of wealthy and ruthless students, and it now has a confirmed major connection to the 1999 movie, but this actually hurts the TV show. Directed by Roger Kumble and based on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos 1782 novel Les Liaisons dangereuses, Cruel Intentions introduces the audience to wealthy step-siblings Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe), who make a bet for their entertainment: Sebastian has to seduce the new headmasters daughter, Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon), and sleep with her.
If Sebastian achieves this, Kathryn will finally sleep with him, but if he fails, Kathryn will get his beloved vintage car. The Cruel Intentions TV show borrowed the same premise as the movie but with some important changes to the characters and their plans. Laura Benanti has exited Amazon’s “Cruel Intentions” adaptation due to a scheduling conflict, a representative for Benanti confirmed to TheWrap.
Benanti, who was slated to recur in a guest star role as Caroline’s mother, Claudia, is unable to move forward in production due a “scheduling conflict,” and told Variety, who first reported the news, that she is hopeful the adaptation’s team will find a “wonderful actress to play this role.”
Recently appearing in “Life & Beth,” Benanti stars in the upcoming Jennifer Lawrence film “No Hard Feelings,” and the Tony-winner is currently starring in an off-Broadway production of A.R. Gurney’s “Love Letters” alongside Matthew Broderick.
The news comes days after reports that the adaptation of the 1999 cult film, which had been in development at Amazon Freevee since 2021, had set its main cast, which was to include Sarah Catherine Hook as Caroline Merteuil, Claudia’s daughter.

Starz has canceled “Dangerous Liaisons” after one season — despite that the historical drama was renewed just last month, Variety has confirmed.
Though executives at Starz had much faith behind the series, sources say the team decided to axe the show due to it not finding its audience. The remaining three episodes in the first season will be released as scheduled.
“Dangerous Liaisons” was given a Season 2 order in November, prior to its Nov. 6 premiere.
Alice Elgert and Nicholas Denton star in the show as the Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont. Based on the famous 18th century novel of the same name by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, the Starz series served as a prequel to the historic tale showing the origin story of the notorious couple.

Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive clip from Dangerous Liaisons episode 5, titled "The World Should be Afraid of Us." The Starz series, based on the infamous epistolary novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, pulls back the curtain on life in 18th-century France and revels in one lower-class woman's quest to conquer the nobility. The mysterious Marquise de Mertreuil was one of the biggest names in her social circles in the classic book, but her origin and history have never been fully depicted (despite countless iterations and reimaginings) until now.
Introduced as a young prostitute from the house of Madame Jericho, Camille (played by Alice Englert) is naively in love with Pascal Valmont (Nicholas Denton) and hopes he will rescue her from her life of debt. While he is of a much higher class, meanwhile, he remains penniless thanks to his stepmother Ondine (Colette Dalal Tchantcho) cutting him off.

Dangerous Liaisons continues to titillate, tease, and torment.
There seems to be no end to Camille and Valmont's mind games, but they still can't help but flirt.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive clip from Sunday's upcoming episode, which sees the former lovers meeting in a most unlikely place.
Dangerous Liaisons has made such a splash that it has already been picked up for a second season.
It's a prequel series to the novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos and play by Christopher Hampton (which was made into a film by Stephen Frears).
Camille (Alice Englert) last saw Valmont (Nicholas Denton) attempting to seduce a wealthy older woman at the opera.
Here she makes an offer -- and demands.
At Madame Berthe's dress shop, Camille has never looked more regal in a magnificent pink gown.
In fact, Pascal doesn't even recognize her.
More playful banter follows, giving way to veiled insults,...

Alice Englert and Nicholas Denton are two rising Australian stars who play the leads in Starz's new Dangerous Liaisons prequel series.
Set in France in the late 18th century on the eve of the Revolution, Dangerous Liaisons takes us back to the youth of the iconic characters from the novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, made famous by Christopher Hampton's play and Stephen Frears's subsequent 1988 film.
This version of Dangerous Liaisons introduces us to Camille and Pascal, young lovers trying to break into the lush, decadent world of the aristocracy by any means necessary.
Alice Englert was recently seen as Nurse Dolly in Netflix's Ratched. Englert plays Camille, the woman at the center of it all.
Nicholas Denton has acted in countless theatre productions, as well as television and film, where he also writes and produces. Denton plays the driven, determined rake, Pascal.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is opening up about the Cruel Intentions reboot NBC passed on and why she’s grateful the pilot was not picked up to series.
The peacock network gave it a pilot order in February 2016 but announced in October of that same year that it was not moving forward with the show. Gellar had signed on to reprise her role of Kathryn Merteuil but ultimately felt the new take didn’t live up to the 1999 film.

Mubi's retrospective, Catherine Breillat, Auteur of Porn?, is showing April 4 - June 3, 2017 in Germany.Sex Is ComedyThroughout her career, Catherine Breillat has provided viewers with a long-form meta-cinema experience. While metacinema is as old as the medium itself, since her debut feature A Real Young Girl in 1976, Breillat has developed a distinct form of it: one that collapses ‘autobiographical’ material, various artistic sensibilities, and the process of filmmaking itself.Like dozens of other English words—such as ‘aesthetic’ or ‘abject’—the word ‘meta’ has been largely misused or misapplied with regard to the film and literary criticism. Regarding the consumption of fiction, the appropriate use of the term 'metafiction,' 'metafilm,' et cetera, has its basis in the Greek meta, which does not translate directly into English but can be understood as a preposition similar to the English word ‘about’ (‘having to do with,’ or ‘on the subject of’). Metafiction is therefore,...

The end of the year is typically a time for reflection on the wins and losses of the previous 12 months, but as news breaks of the shelving of the planned Cruel Intentions TV pilot, it is not entirely clear which category that project would have fallen into. It seems that the show never made it beyond the ‘in contention’ stage, and instead fell through the cracks in the shuffle of cast options and attempts to find an appropriate home for it in the schedule. We now know that NBC officially passed on it in October, and that Sony TV has been trying to find a new home for it ever since.

Cruel Intentions stood out from the rest during the late '90s teen movie boom. It was nasty, it was sexy and it was fun – and as manipulative bad girl Kathryn Mertuil, it let Gellar flex some acting muscles she didn't get to use on Buffy.

Its language is pure and uncorrupted by the corporeal, a beautiful (or horrible) surprise that will move to express what cannot be spoken; a link to our unconscious thoughts and desires. Once sent on its way to a potential explosion that may never arrive it seems to beckon a residual calm that allows cathartic contemplation and a sense of serene somnambulism that is broke only when the answer arrives. Epistolary novels reached their apogee in the 18th century with Samuel Richardson’s Pamela, Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Die Leiden des jungen Werthers.

Cruel Intentions. It was an adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos's Dangerous Liaisons made for Generation Y. It was a hit romance that starred real-life couple Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon, who later married. And now it's a bit of nostalgia that's helped the divorced pair reconcile their shared past for the sake of their kids. The Huffington Post recently spoke with Ryan Phillippe, who shared a charming story about how Cruel Intentions has helped smooth the relationship between himself and ex-wife Reese Witherspoon. Phillipe described learning how to co-parent while divorced as a "feeling out process," but notes he and Witherspoon have managed a balance when it comes to raising their kids, who are now 15 (Ava) and 10 (Deacon). He recalled a visit the four shared while Witherspoon was in New York City promoting both Gone Girl and Wild: "We got to meet up as a family and took...

Arrested Development: Glanz’s Debut an Affluent Vacuum
For the most part, it’s an ingenious trick to fabricate an aura of empathy around a pool of pretentious piranhas endlessly floundering about in the upper echelons of privilege and oblivion. To extend an invitation to witness purported romance amongst elitists garnished with nothing more than an immeasurable trust fund and the preened hue of an Ivy League education would seem nearly impossible to enjoy, and, thus, Peter Glanz’s directorial debut, The Longest Weekend is a generous case in point.
Despite a nicely chosen cast and a handful of flourishes borrowed from the works of cinematic masters, there’s little carbonation to this stale elixir that too often depends on cliché. Overreaching and stifled by its own unnegotiable parameters, this is a highly artificial portrait of all that it attempts to convey.

On the face of it an elegant period drama, Stephen Frears' masterclass in malevolence unfolds as a shocking tale of seduction, betrayal and revenge. Based on Choderlos de Laclos' 18th century book of letters between decadent French aristocrats, Glenn Close and John Malkovich play a pair of deceitful bluebloods who hatch an elaborately spiteful plot to ruin their innocent victims, including a young music teacher (Keanu Reeves), an impressionable ingenue (Uma Thurman) and the virtuous Madame de Tourvel (Michelle Pfeiffer). Its haul of three Oscars included best adapted screenplay for Christopher Hampton.
