Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.. was released in 2001 and is still considered one of the most iconic films in the Bollywood industry. Almost everything was perfect in this Karan Johar-directed film, from iconic dialogue to the stellar cast. The film’s cast included Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, and Jaya Bachchan, who all delivered great performances. It was a story that beautifully connected love, relationships, and familial bonds.
Its songs were also a significant reason behind its success. One such song was Bole Chudiyan, sung by Kavita Krishnamurti, Alka Yagnik, Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, and Amit Kumar. Filming Bole Chudiyan, despite its on-screen ease, had its off-screen challenges, as recently revealed by then-assistant director Nikhil Advani.
All actors waited for someone else to step out from vanity for Bole Chudiyan.

She shared how during the filming of the track she was on a drip, while Srk was wearing thin cotton clothes on the frozen lake.
In the new episode of the celebrity dance reality show, ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’, actor Shoaib Ibrahim, who was though unwell, gave a ‘Paso Doble’ performance to the mesmerising tune of ‘Satrangi Re’, along with choreographer Anuradha Iyengar.
Farah, who originally choreographed the song, reminisced about the shooting of this song, saying that like Shoaib, she too wasn’t well at that time.
“I choreographed this song for ‘Dil Se.’ We filmed it in Ladakh during the winter. Near that frozen lake, especially for the last portion– there was literally no oxygen.

[Editor’s note: This story contains spoilers for “Polite Society.”]
It took everything I had not to yell out loud during “Polite Society.”
Not because of the intense fight sequences, killer martial arts, or even that twist — what had this reporter out of her seat was a dance sequence that unfolds during the film’s final act. As Ria (Priya Kansara) dances at sister Lena’s (Ritu Arya) wedding, she aims to “distract” the assembled guests while her friends are busy executing a master plan that’s consumed most of the film’s running time. Dressed in an emerald-green outfit, Ria takes the stage, and the opening notes of “Maar Dala” begin to play.
Composed by Ismail Darbar with lyrics by Nusrat Badr, “Maar Dala” first appeared in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 film “Devdas,” based on 1917 Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay novel of the same name. In the film, Madhuri Dixit-Nene performs the number (sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy and K.K.) as courtesan Chandramukhi,...

The track features a melodious use of the tabla and veena, both instruments complementing the ‘murkiyaan’ in the melodious voices of Kavita Krishnamurti, Shreya Ghoshal and Arman Dehlvi.
The Hindi lyrics for the song have been penned by Gulzar, who has earlier delivered knockout albums with Rahman for ‘Guru’, ‘Dil Se..’ and ‘Saathiya’, among other such notable films.

Bollywood has been around for a very long time for sure, but love has been around for longer. As much as Bollywood has somehow kept finding new ways to express love, whether that be the forbidden love of a rich man’s daughter all the way through to the love of another man/woman or in a love that dare not speak its own name because it takes the form of patriotism or religious fervour, love still out lasts Bollywood. So, on this Valentine’s day lets listen to a few different ways Bollywood has tried and failed to capture love over the years.

We now dive into Part 2 of the songs of Bollywood. 90s Bollywood had a hefty past of classic films and songs to surpass. From Dilip Kumar walking along a cliff, Dev Anand comically falling down, Raj Kapoor thinking about death and legacy, to Rajesh Khanna staring out at the sea (on another cliff), Sunny Deol stomping his feet as his gang mates went up the hill and Rishi Kapoor righting the wrongs of his past life through a song. How do you top that and still be the lovable, funky, fun and completely absurd Bollywood we knew and love… Easy! From the soft, easy listening music and some jazz combinations of the earlier films, the music and dance sequences transposed to low budget big band music taking on the blasting of the base club beats Ko-ing the western world with a bigger dose of desi swag. As well as dancing queens and dhak dhak,...

Bollywood is known around the world for lights, colour and songs. In 90 years of Bollywood cinema, you can be sure that there has been a song for every emotional moment whether happy, sad, surprised, action, romance or drama. Of course Bollywood thus has plenty on offer when it comes to festival time. Festivals are the chance for hardworking people around the world to stop and mix fun, religious belief and Bollywood together in open air function spaces as they dance the night away to some great tunes. At this time of year, the main festivals to consider are Navratri and Dusheera. Below are a few examples of what Bollywood has given over recent years.
We start with Navratri, a time for lengha, garba and dandiya in its most famous form, particularly in Gujarat. For Bollywood, this is obviously a time to show off some dance skills but also a time...

The forthcoming Vidya Balan-starrer Tumhari Sulu is a fun, inspirational story of a housewife who believes that she can have a life outside the walls of her home. The trailer of the film has already received immense love and appreciation, and the film has been placed on many lists, including ours, of the most anticipated releases of the year.
Besides the fact that Vidya plays the lead role of Sulu in the film, another high moment is that the film revisits one of the most iconic Bollywood songs – a recreation of Sridevi’s hit track ‘Hawa Hawai’.
Interestingly Vidya Balan was barely 5 years old when the original ‘Hawa Hawai from Mr. India released in 1987. When Vidya came on set to shoot the song with co-stars Neha Dhupia and Rj Malishka, she couldn’t help but go back in time and revisit her memory of ‘Hawa Hawai’ when she was a little girl.

Sridevi’s iconic “Hawa Hawai” from the 1987 blockbuster, Mr. India has been recreated in the forthcoming slice-of-life family film, Tumhari Sulu and the fab video premiered today.
“I am elated to have such a cult number in the film,” says director Suresh Triveni. Adding that it was their intention ‘to pay a true tribute to the original and revive it in its full glory.’
Picturized on stars Vidya Balan aka Sulu, Neha Dhupia and Rj Malishka, the song was recreated by composer Tanishk Bagchi. What is cool is that the song retains Kavita Krishnamurthy’s vocals, as the track is synonymous with her incredible rendition.
Talking about the number, Vidya told us in our exclusive interview she more than freaked out when she learned that she was doing the number. “Sri Devi is my all time favorite and I think there is nothing she can’t do.” Saying that this...

It is where hearts meet, auntyjis gossip and kids have a blast. Navratri shin-digs are the ‘it’ get togethers in the Desi calendar every year. It’s a nine day long festive period where everyone joins in daily for a night of song and dance. Apart from being the social get together of the year the festival has a strong religious meaning. It celebrates nine forms of Goddess Durga, one on each night, hence the name nav-nine ratri-nights. The 10th day is the festival of Dashera, marking the ultimate triumph of good over evil in Indian history.
Unlike any other usual festival, navratri songs and dance are specific. They have a distinct beat and the dance form adopted is garba or dandiya. The song and dance routine of the night, garba or dandiya, also have a strong historical backing as depicts the rasa-lila between Lord Krishna and the gopis of Vrindavan.

In celebration of Lord Shiva’s Maha Shivratri, one of the most prominent festivals of the Hindu calendar, we bring you some of our favourite Lord Shiva related Bollywood songs.
As we explore a few of the different shades that Bollywood has celebrated Lord Shiva through, we take you on a very quick journey beginning in 1950, with the song “Bhole nath se nirala” to end with Koyla’s (1997) mischievous “Bhang Ke Nashe Mein”.
Known by at least 1008 different names, including “Kailas” (One who bestows Peace), “Shambu” (Source of everything) and “Hari” (Sustainer and Destroyer), Lord Shiva is said to have married Parvarti on Maha Shivratri. Other readings of Hinduism state that Maha Shivratri is the night on which Shiva performed “Tandava” – the dance that led to the creation, conservation and destruction of the Universe.
Maha Shivratri is also known as Lord Shiva’s favourite day.
