Jon Kenny, one half of the famous comedy team D’Unbelievables, died at Galway Clinic on Friday night. He was 59. This was the end of an era in Irish entertainment. He was 66 years old.
Kenny, from Hospital in County Limerick, became famous nationwide with his comedy partner Pat Shortt in the 1990s. Their unique style forever changed Irish humor. Fellow comic Dara Ó Briain said they “opened the door for all the rest of us.”
Even though Kenny had many health problems, he kept up a busy job in show business. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2000, which meant he couldn’t act for a while. He went back to the stage as a solo act after treatment that went well, which included a stem cell transplant at St. James’s Hospital.

Critics love Martin McDonagh’s new film “The Banshees of Inisherin,” which reunites Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, his two leads from 2008’s black crime comedy “In Bruges” as feuding former friends.
The film had its world premiere at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, where Farrell won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor and McDonagh won for Best Screenplay. Five years ago, McDonagh won the same award for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” which set the stage for an Oscar in the same category. “Billboards” stars Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell also won Oscars.
So could this be the film that might finally get Farrell his first Academy Award nomination? The actor, who netted a Golden Globe for “In Bruges,” is overdue for some Oscar love, as is Gleeson, an Emmy winner for 2009’s “Into the Storm.”

The Banshees of Inisherin is an excellent film written and directed by Martin McDonagh. It is starred by Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Kerry Condon.
You need to be blind to not notice it: this is an absolutely special movie. It is noteworthy from the very first frame in everything.
Storyline
Pádraic gets up in the morning like he does every day to visit his friend Colm. But this day there is a problem and it is that Colm, for no real reason, no longer wants to be Pádraic´s friend.
Movie Review The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
A film in the flavor of John Ford, quality filming in each frame, composition, very studied photography, elaborated narrative and devoted acting that is outstanding in the two leading roles.

From the mind behind In Bruges and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri comes another moving black comedy-drama with The Banshees of Inisherin. The film centers on Colin Farrell's Pádraic as he learns his long-time friend, Brendan Gleeson's Colm, no longer wants to be friends with him, leading to a spiral of escalating tension between the two.
Alongside Farrell and Gleeson, the cast for The Banshees of Inisherin includes Kerry Condon, Barry Keoghan, Pat Shortt, Jon Kenny, and Bríd Ní Neachtain. Martin McDonagh returns to his cultural and theatrical roots to deliver a story that is simultaneously heartbreaking and hilarious.

Not all friendships can stand the test of time, as seen in The Banshees of Inisherin. Written and directed by Oscar-winner Martin McDonagh, the film is set in early 1900s Ireland. It explores the fallout between two lifelong friends on the titular island and how it affects those around them.
Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, who previously worked with McDonagh on In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths, lead the cast of The Banshees of Inisherin alongside Kerry Condon, Barry Keoghan, Pat Shortt, Jon Kenny, and Bríd Ní Neachtain. Blending gut-bursting comedy with more meditative explorations of isolation, friendships, and community, McDonagh once again strikes gold with his deft tonal balance.

"Awaken your magic!" Yay! One of the best animated films from last year is now playing in cinemas again. GKids has re-released Tomm Moore & Ross Stewart's magical adventure Wolfwalkers in select theaters in the US, with more venues playing it nationwide coming up this weekend. A young apprentice hunter and her father journey to Ireland to help wipe out the last wolf pack. But everything changes when she befriends a free-spirited girl from a mysterious tribe rumored to transform into wolves by night. Featuring the voices of Honor Kneafsey, Eva Whitaker, Sean Bean, Simon McBurney, Tommy Tiernan, Jon Kenny, John Morton, and Maria Doyle Kennedy. I totally adore this film, along with everything else Tomm Moore has made! I'm happy it's playing again after first opening in the fall. As wonderful as this film is, it's even better on the big screen! If you can safely get to a...

"You're a wolf when you sleep... a girl when you're awake." Apple has released a full-length trailer for the animated feature film titled Wolfwalkers, the latest project from acclaimed Irish animation filmmaker Tomm Moore co-directing with concept artist Ross Stewart. In a time of superstition and magic, when wolves are seen as demonic and nature an evil to be tamed, a young apprentice hunter, Robyn, comes to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last pack. But when Robyn saves a wild native girl, Mebh, their friendship leads her to discover the world of the Wolfwakers and transform her into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy. The voice cast is lead by Honor Kneafsey, Eva Whitaker, Sean Bean, Simon McBurney, Tommy Tiernan, Jon Kenny, John Morton, and Maria Doyle Kennedy. This premiered at TIFF and it's absolutely wonderful - I raved about it in my review.

“Wolfwalkers” directors Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart didn’t conceive of the idea for their animated, Irish folklore parable until 2013 as they were finishing their previous film “Song of the Sea.” But even though the film is set in Medieval times, the history has only become more prescient.
“Wolfwalkers” comes from the animation team at Cartoon Saloon, which developed both “Song of the Sea” and “The Secret of Kells,” both Oscar-nominated films about Irish folklore. Their latest completes a trilogy of sorts, but the directors told TheWrap that it stands alone in how it speaks to the problems of today.
“The 17th Century and sadly hundreds of years later has some similar stuff where we have our protector is a fairly recognizable strong man, autocratic leader kind of ruling with fear and division, and also the destruction of the forests for agricultural use and also to symbolically tame the indigenous...

Chicago – Just in time for its potential win of the “Best Animated Feature” Oscar this Sunday, the Irish animated film “Song of the Sea” opens this weekend at Chicago’s Music Box Theater. A grab-bag myth come to storytelling life, this film is vitalized by its gorgeous animation as much as the heart within its narrative.

A delightful trailer has been released for director Tomm Moore's new film Song of the Sea. This is the same director who brought us the fantastic animated film The Secret of Kells. His newest film looks absolutely wonderful.
Song of the Sea pulls from several aspects of Irish folklore, more specifically the Selkies, who are seals in the sea, but shed their skin to become human on land. The story focuses on siblings Ben and Saoirse (who is the last Seal-child) who embark on a great adventure. The movie stars the voices of Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, David Rawle, Lisa Hannigan, Pat Shortt, Jon Kenny, Lucy O’Connell, Liam Hourican, and Kevin Swierszsz.
Cartoon Saloon is likely to release the movie sometime in 2015, and I'll be looking forward to it. If you haven't seen The Secret of Kells yet, you should check it out. It's currently on Netflix.

It's been a little while coming but Tomm Moore's The Song Of The Sea - the latest from the director of Oscar nominated animated feature The Secret Of Kells - is up and running. The voice tracks have been laid down by the likes of Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, Pat Shortt, Jon Kenny, David Rawle, and Lisa Hannigan and principal production on the actual animation begins in January.Moore, in my estimation, is an outright genius and The Secret Of Kells an utterly fabulous bit of work. For a taste of what is coming check out the test reel below....
