Stay Tuned is one the most unfairly overlooked family movies of the 1990s. Here's why we love it, and why it stands the test of time...
Spoilers for Stay Tuneed lie ahead.
What would you say dates a film or TV show?
Is it computers? Maybe, although once you get past the crazy notion of having to attach your landline receiver to a modem the size of a cereal box, WarGames still functions as a decent techno-thriller. Last year this site wrote about hacker-centric caper movie Sneakers and noted that it has actually aged rather well.
Phones perhaps? There’s a moment in Lethal Weapon where Murtaugh stops to make a call on his ‘mobile’. He gets out of his car on a bridge (an elevated point for a good signal I suppose) and has to lug a heavy looking briefcase containing the battery with him (presumably...

Digital Spy presents Games on Film, a look back at the numerous (and quite often disastrous) movies based on video games. How closely do they stick to their source material, and how well do they hold up on their own merits?
Previous Games on Film: Resident Evil
Super Mario Bros (1993)
How do you turn a wacky concept like Super Mario Bros into a film? That was the conundrum faced by directors Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel when they inherited the project from French producer Roland Joffe in the early '90s.
Just how Joffe managed to convince Nintendo that a live-action movie about a plumber who stomps on turtles and smashes blocks with his head was a good idea is anybody's guess, but the gaming giant did endorse the venture.
Due to the nature of the source material, a direct adaptation was pretty much impossible, so scriptwriters Jim Jennewein and...

Nutter bites into NL film 'Darksiders'
Emmy-winning director David Nutter, who has helmed supernatural material like the TV series The X-Files, has been tapped by New Line Cinema to direct the vampire thriller Darksiders. Penned by Tom Parker and Jim Jennewein, Darksiders revolves around a band of bloodsuckers who are turned into special operatives for the FBI. Given the bloodlust they show for their work, the vampires are closely monitored by the government agency. The project is being produced by Tracie Graham and Alison Rosenzweig, with New Line production execs Kent Alterman and Michelle Weiss overseeing for the studio. Best known as a TV director, Nutter has helmed episodes of such series as ER, Dark Angel, Smallville, the new WB Network series Tarzan as well as X-Files. He won an Emmy for his work directing episodes of the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers and has had the unusual honor of having the past seven TV pilots he has directed picked up. Nutter's most recent feature work was the 1998 thriller Disturbing Behavior. Nutter is repped by Endeavor and Industry Entertainment.
