Richard Gregoire was born in Montreal in 1944. Studied music at the
faculty of music at the Université de Montréal and composition with the
well known french-Canadian composer Serge Garant. He won a National
Arts Council grant in 1968 and served an apprenticeship in france with
the prestigious O.R.T.F. under the direction of Pierre Schaeffer. He
also stidied with Gilbert Amy. In 1968 he wrote a Cantata which was
performed in march of the following year for the society of
contemporary music of Québec. During the seventies he honed his skills
in writing commercial and pop music. In 1983, composer Lewis Furey
hired Grégoire to conduct his score for the film Maria Chapdelaine. In
1985, Yves Simoneau hired him to write the score for his feature
Pouvoir Intime. Today Grégoire is considered one of the primary talents
in the film and television scoring field in Québec.
