Not every villain in the "Harry Potter" franchise is an evil Death Eater — or, in "Muggle" terms, a follower of the evil Dark Lord Voldemort (played by Ralph Fiennes in the films). Take Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton), for example, who first shows up in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" as a Ministry of Magic plant who comes to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry ostensibly to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts ... but who's really there to spy on and censor the leadership of Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon). Umbridge is unquestionably vile and evil, and as series author Joanne Kathleen Rowling explained in the Harry Potter encyclopedia Wizarding World, the character is firmly meant to show that "good" and "evil" aren't always what they seem.

When Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) first arrived at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (2001), he learned pretty quickly that there were cliques, just like in a regular British boarding school. Notably, he met the sour-tempered Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), very clearly one of Hogwarts' aspiring bullies. Draco mocked the timid Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), immediately alienating Harry. Throughout the following films in the "Harry Potter" series, Draco would become worse and worse, moving from mere bullying to becoming a soldier for the evil Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), who fought against the notion of allowing "tainted blood" into the world's wizard schools.
For most of the "Harry Potter" films, Draco was joined by a pair of sniveling sidekicks named Crabbe and Goyle. The shorter Crabbe was played by Jamie Waylett, and the taller Goyle was played by Josh Herdman. Crabbe and Goyle were always causing small headaches for Harry,...

As Potterheads, we owe so much of our childhood to the magical world created by J.K. Rowling. From the iconic Quidditch matches to the intricate Wizarding World, every bit of the Harry Potter series felt like a spell cast over us. But even then, the author admitted to having certain regrets surrounding her magical novels.

Over the years, J.K. Rowling has confessed to making a few mistakes in the storyline, regarding the characters and her decisions. Now, while we might shake our heads at some of her choices, there are others we’re secretly glad about—even if they weren’t perfect. So let’s take a look at two of her biggest “what ifs”.

There's no shortage of mysterious magical objects in the "Harry Potter" universe, but one of the items that's most frequently wielded and utilized by Harry Potter himself (played by Daniel Radcliffe in the film franchise) is the Cloak of Invisibility, which — true to its name — allows Harry to disappear beneath it any time he needs to move discreetly throughout Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the final book (and final two-part movie), "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the Cloak comes in handy as Harry and his two best friends Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) travel the wizarding world to find Voldemort's (Ralph Fiennes) Horcruxes — magical items containing pieces of the Dark Lord's very soul — and destroy them. So what's the deal with the Cloak?
It's never fully explained how the Cloak functions, but that's not what's important here.

Chris Columbus, the director who set the tone for the Harry Potter film franchise with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, has given a glowing endorsement to HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television adaptation. Speaking to People, Columbus called the project "a spectacular idea" and highlighted the unique opportunities a serialized format offers compared to feature films.
"Our film was two hours and 40 minutes, and the second one was almost as long," Columbus reflected. "We tried to get as much of the book in as possible, but there’s a certain restriction when you’re making a film." He emphasized that with the TV series, there’s “the leisure of multiple episodes for each book,” allowing for the inclusion of scenes and details that couldn’t make it into the original films.

Original Harry Potter helmer Chris Columbus is praising HBO’s forthcoming television reboot, calling it a “spectacular idea” that will allow for the exploration of previously uncharted Hogwarts hallways.
“There’s a certain restriction when you’re making a film,” the Nosferatu producer told People. The Oscar-nominated multi-hyphenate — who oversaw 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and 2002’s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets — noted that there isn’t a spell that can magically cram novel-length material into a tight feature.

While the Harry Potter films have turned into a billion-dollar franchise over the years, you’ll be stunned to know the amount the film series paid its background actors. While current pay rates in Hollywood protected by SAG-AFTRA stand at $23.38 per hour, English actress Samantha Clinch opened up about receiving a meager $3.05/hour for the magical franchise.

Sharing a TikTok video in October 2023, Samantha Clinch compared her paycheck with the amount taken home by the likes of Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, while filming Harry Potter. Now while the duo were the lead stars of the films, Clinch’s salary as a background artist and later as side character Eloise Midgen still seemed heartbreaking in comparison.

In the "Harry Potter" movies, the binary of "good" and "evil" is illustrated pretty well by Harry himself — played by Daniel Radcliffe — and his lifelong enemy Lord Voldemort. Still, Harry has plenty of minor villains to deal with along the way, and one is his schoolboy nemesis Draco Malfoy, portrayed throughout the franchise's eight movies by Tom Felton. So would Felton and Radcliffe work together again? According to Felton, they've chatted about it a bit, but there would be a bit of a twist if the two ever teamed up for a different project.
In an interview with Digital Spy in May of 2022, Felton was asked about any possible reunions with any of his "Harry Potter" co-stars, and he said he'd leap at the chance to work alongside Radcliffe in particular. "We all talk about doing something again in all different ways," Felton told the outlet. "Daniel and I have...

Way back in 2020, we heard that Francesca Gregorini, writer/director of the 2013 psychological thriller The Truth About Emanuel, was not happy about Servant, the Apple TV+ psychological thriller series that was created by Tony Basgallop and executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan. Gregorini was so upset about the show, and so convinced that it was a rip-off of her movie, that she hit Apple, Shyamalan, Basgallop, and the rest of the show’s executive producers and production companies with a copyright infringement lawsuit. While Servant has gone on to complete its four season run since Gregorini filed the lawsuit, Variety reports that the copyright trial got started this week and is expected to last for two weeks. What’s at stake? $81 million.

Throughout the "Harry Potter" books and movies — the original ones, not the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise — there are plenty of mysteries scattered around for both the audience and Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) himself to solve. In fact, if you take each installment one by one, they're basically all mystery books. Who's after the titular Stone in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone?" Who is the real Heir of Slytherin in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets?" Why is alleged murderer Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) hellbent on finding Harry at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban?" Who put Harry's name in the Goblet of Fire in, well, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?" I don't need to go on — you get it. You're smart.

Harry Potter is coming to HBO Max sooner than you think, and that means that the announcement of the Golden Trio actors must be coming soon as well. The Harry Potter reboot is due to hit small screens in 2026. As such, developments are well underway to finish the production in time. Announced in 2023, the show aims to adapt one of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter books per season, meaning seven seasons are planned. Casting has begun for the show's talent across both the adult and child cast, with many rumors flying as to the potential adult witches and wizards.

Harry, Hermione and Ron might've got a cauldron full of house points for Gryffindor over the years, but they only managed to get one film onto IMDb's Top 250 list, and it might not be the one you're thinking of. In the pantheon of "Harry Potter" films that saw Daniel Radcliffe's orphan and number one horcrux in the side of He Who Must Not Be Named aka Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), there are plenty to great watches to choose from. Some that might not have aged as well as others and some that might sit lower down the list, but they have a handful of memorable moments regardless. However, according to IMDb's users, it's the latter half of the final chapter in the "Harry Potter" franchise, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," that deserves a slot among the select few.

How Much Money Did Tom Felton Make From The Harry Potter Movies? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Draco Malfoy might’ve been a classroom nemesis, but Tom Felton turned him into a cash machine. Across eight Harry Potter films, Felton’s total screen time was just 31 minutes and 45 seconds. And he earned more than $17 million (£14 million) for the same, per Lad Bible. Despite being Harry’s sneering rival, Malfoy barely showed his pale, pointed face on screen compared to the Golden Trio.
For context, Daniel Radcliffe clocked in 539 minutes, Emma Watson scored 205 minutes, and Rupert Grint hit 211. Even Hagrid aka Robbie Coltrane got 45 minutes and 45 seconds. And while Voldemort struck fear into Hogwarts, the Dark Lord himself managed only 37 minutes and 15 seconds. Guess Hagrid’s warm smile had more staying power than He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
Still, Malfoy’s limited presence packed a punch. Tom Felton made every sneer, glare, and “Potter!” count, leaving fans with a memorable antagonist.

Did Emma Stone have a hard time with Harry Potter’s early takes? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Emma Watson revealed in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel that, during one of the film’s early takes, she accidentally mouthed her co-stars’ lines—multiple times. “I kind of overdid it,” she said, explaining how her excitement and dedication led to some accidental line-mouthing on set.
The incident took place during a scene where Harry, Ron, and Hermione are discussing Snape. If you watch closely, you’ll spot Emma’s lips syncing along with every line. As Kimmel put it, “watch very closely Emma’s lips throughout this.” Turns out, that wasn’t just a funny moment on-screen but a behind-the-scenes struggle.
In true Hermione fashion, Emma took her role seriously. “This is actually quite traumatic for me,” she admitted. “I created issues because of this.” While everyone else was focused on delivering their lines,...

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone director Chris Columbus reveals that there's one scene in the movie that he wasn't happy with, but an executive barred him from fixing it. Released in 2001 and based on the book by J.K. Rowling, the first installment in Warner Bros.' Harry Potter franchise was a massive success, paving the way for seven sequels. The film, which stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, was beloved for how it brought Rowling's Wizarding World to life, but Columbus now reveals there's one effect he wasn't satisfied with.
In a recent interview with THR, Columbus reveals that he was left bothered by the Devil's Snare scene toward the end of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. According to the director, he wanted to enhance the scene in post-production using visual effects, but a powerful executive producer shut the idea down. Columbus shares the anecdote to...

Harry Potter Season 2 Must Include One Flashback Episode That Will Make Its Twist Ending Even Better
The Harry Potter TV show is coming around fast and some storylines should be given attention right away. HBO is looking to launch its Harry Potter TV show in 2026 and will attempt to start production in 2025. This means that the script will be circulating for discussion at HBO. Therefore, it is a good time to recollect J. K. Rowling's classic story and plan the key tent poles required for HBO's show. With one season per book planned, there are many ways the show could go, but one twist, in particular, should be explored in detail.
Published between 1997 and 2007, J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books will provide the source material for HBO's show, and the second book offers some intriguing content. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, released in 1998, inspired the 2002 Warner Bros. movie. This installment is about Salazar Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets and its mysterious reopening at Hogwarts.

Tom Holland On Jak And Daxter ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Back in the Uncharted era, Tom Holland set his sights on a different kind of adventure—a live-action Jak and Daxter adaptation. Not just any adaptation, though. Holland wanted it weird, dark, and dripping with indie vibes. “I would like to make a Jak and Daxter movie,” Holland shared, pitching the idea as an A24 project. Yes, the same A24 is known for Hereditary and Moonlight. Imagine an elf boy and a sarcastic ottsel roaming alien worlds in a moody, arthouse rendition.
“I would play Jak,” Holland said, throwing himself into the casting mix, “but I would make it A24, so it was really weird and dark.” Bold? Definitely. He even doubled down, specifying it would be a live-action take on Naughty Dog’s iconic platforming franchise. The pitch? Outlandish. The potential? Intriguing.
For those unfamiliar, Jak and Daxter were staples of the PlayStation 2 glory days.

Arnold Schwarzenegger MCU Role ( Photo Credit – Flickr )
Well, well, well, hold on to your multiversal hats because Arnold Schwarzenegger just threw his hat in the MCU ring. The action icon dropped the bombshell in a Men’s Health interview, casually saying, “If the role is right!” We don’t know what “right” means for Arnie, but we do know this: the possibilities are endless.
Let’s be honest: can you imagine the Terminator stepping into the MCU? A hero? A villain? Heck, maybe a multiversal variant of someone we already know. With his action-packed resume, Schwarzenegger would be a slam dunk in either role. Not to mention, he’s got comedic timing that’ll leave you laughing while dodging bullets.
Schwarzenegger isn’t just thinking of any old role. He’s got serious ties to the MCU world already. His son-in-law? None other than the legendary Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt.

Rupert Grint’s Post-Harry Potter Struggles ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Rupert Grint nearly traded in his wand for an ice cream scoop. After spending a decade as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise, Grint got hit with a serious case of career doubt. As the final film wrapped, he feared he was typecast and couldn’t break free from the “sidekick” mold. His solution? Buy an ice cream van and give up acting altogether.
“I definitely did think, ‘Is it too late to pick something else?’” Grint admitted in an interview with The New York Times. This wasn’t some casual, whimsical thought – the actor seriously considered making a fresh start in the world of frozen treats. He even drove his pink-and-white ice cream van back to his family home, thinking he might actually make a go of it. It’s so surreal that it almost feels like something out of a quirky British comedy.

VFX artists explain how Rubeus Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) was able to look like a half-giant in the Harry Potter movies. One of the visual challenges that the movies had from the beginning was how to make Hagrid look like a towering figure, not only next to Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), but when standing next to older characters. While the Harry Potter books are able to rely on descriptions and readers' imaginations, the movies needed to pull off visual tricks that would make Hagrid's height look convincing.
While watching clips from the Harry Potter movies, Corridor Crew broke down the visual effects that were used to make Hagrid look significantly taller than the other characters. Some shots, especially those of Hagrid's back or when he was standing next to young characters, were made possible through a double. The double was former rugby player Michael Bayfield,...

Tom Felton commented on the real-life nicknames that he utilized to make his performance as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films exceptional and convincing. Along with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, Felton skyrocketed to fame at a young age after the breakout success of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. He would go on to become a core part of the Harry Potter franchise's cast and would play one of the most integral characters in the entire series, the conflicted and disturbed Draco Malfoy.
Following the enormous success of the Harry Potter films, which spanned eight installments with the final one being 2011's Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Felton went on to star in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Murder in the First, and The Flash. English actor Nicolas Hoult has been building up an excellent body of work over the past couple decades. He broke out as a child actor alongside Hugh Grant in 2002's About a Boy, he was charming as a young Beast in several X-Men movies, he nearly stole the show as the war boy Nux in 2015's fantastic Mad Max: Fury Road, and now he's in Nosferatu as Thomas Hutter, the innocent real estate agent who comes face to face with the deadly vampire. Next year he'll play Lex Luthor in Superman. He can't be stopped.
And he could have been even bigger. Speaking with Nosferatu costar Lily Rose-Depp over mega-spicy hot wings in an episode of Hot Ones Versus, he revealed that he auditioned for multiple roles back in the day when director Chris Columbus was casting actors to appear in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

Which Harry Potter Role Did Got Star Thomas Brodie-Sangster Audition For (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Imagine this: a 10-year-old Thomas Brodie-Sangster, ready to bring the ginger wizard Ron Weasley to life on screen. Crazy, right? Yet, back when Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was first casting its iconic characters, Thomas gave it a shot. But instead of securing the role, he learned some serious lessons about rejection—and the entertainment biz ain’t for the faint of heart.
Thomas spilled the tea during an interview with Radio Times, saying, “It was my first experience of rejection and hit me quite hard. I had feelings of anger and frustration, but I couldn’t really put the blame on anyone for not giving me the role.” Translation: a 10-year-old Thomas took the loss on the chin, but it stung. Hard. It's an understatement to say that, during his time as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry Potter — played on-screen by Daniel Radcliffe — gets into a ton of trouble. What's unfair about this is that, to Harry's credit, it's not usually his fault; as a baby, he managed to reverse a killing curse upon the Dark Lord Voldemort (eventually played by Ralph Fiennes in the film franchise) and created a deadly lifelong rivalry, which he certainly didn't intend to do. Throughout his first few years at Hogwarts, Voldemort, who hasn't yet returned to his corporeal form, employs a few tricks — from a haunted diary to an old henchman to a possessed professor — to try and attack Harry, but there's not much he can do without a body. This is all to say that in the fourth book and film, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," Voldemort...

Did Daniel Radcliffe’s Height Issues Ever Impact His Hollywood Career? ( Photo Credit – Facebook )
Daniel Radcliffe may not have towered over his co-stars, but he certainly stood tall in his role as Harry Potter. At 5’5″, the actor brought life to one of literature’s most iconic heroes, even if he had to lean on a little Hollywood magic to make it all work. As Radcliffe once joked during a Playboy interview, “Can you play a really (bleeping) tall person? No, obviously not.”
However, Radcliffe revealed that height concerns never held him back in Hollywood. “Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise have very different careers, and they’re both about the same height as I am,” he pointed out. While the actor laughed about never being cast as a quarterback in a football movie, Radcliffe took pride in roles that suited his vibe. He even Googled the minimum height for a marine—“five feet,...

While fans might love the Harry Potter films and find them nostalgic, they don’t evoke the same feelings for the stellar cast of the franchise, especially not for Emma Watson. Harry Potter actors James and Oliver Phelps, who played Fred and George Weasley, respectively, each share their favorite entries in the franchise. The release of The Sorcerer's Stone in 2001 spawned seven sequels, with The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 concluding the journey of Daniel Radcliffe's journey in 2011. Harry Potter actors James Phelps and Oliver Phelps reveal the items that they kept from their time filming the Wizarding World movies. The Phelps twins famously played the identical brothers Fred and George Weasley. Fred and George attended Hogwarts alongside their younger brother, Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) in the first five movies. In the later installments, Fred and George opened up their shop, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, and became Order of the Phoenix members. This made the Phelps brothers vital members of the Harry Potter cast who starred in all eight movies.

And there are some crackers,” Mylod says, adding that they want to focus on “the cream of British acting talent, this incredible tradition of brilliant theater actors and, of course, we’re following the books with the canonical casting.

Rupert Grint, widely recognized for his portrayal of Ron Weasley in the beloved Harry Potter series, has found himself facing a significant financial setback.
Rupert Grint has been ordered to pay £1.8 million ($2.3 million) following the resolution of a prolonged legal battle with Hm Revenue and Customs (Hmrc), the United Kingdom’s tax authority.
The Root Of The Dispute
This hefty bill stems from a dispute over the classification of £4.5 million in earnings from residuals linked to the Harry Potter series.
These residuals — encompassing income from DVD sales, television syndication, streaming rights, and other royalties — were initially categorized by Grint as a capital asset, a classification subject to a lower tax rate.
However, Hmrc contended that these funds should have been reported as income, which carries a significantly higher tax obligation.
In 2019, Hmrc ordered Grint to pay the disputed sum. The actor’s legal team subsequently launched an appeal, disputing the tax authority’s stance.

Rupert Grint, best known for playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise, owes £1.8 million ($2.3 million) to the United Kingdom’s Hmrc tax agency.
The actor’s residual earnings from the wizarding series were incorrectly classified as capital assets instead of income, leading to a significant tax bill.
Grint attempted to reduce his taxable income in 2011 by establishing Clay 10 Limited, a company to which he sold his residual rights as capital. Despite this strategy, Judge Harriet Morgan ruled in favor of Hmrc, stating that the residuals — primarily from TV and DVD sales of the Harry Potter films — are income and not capital.
Clay 10 currently holds over £27 million ($34 million) in equity, according to a December 2023 filing.
Using the so-called “Beatles clause,” a similar tax avoidance strategy employed by the Beatles in the 1960s, Hmrc claimed that Grint sought to pay a lower capital gains tax instead of income tax by selling his rights to the company.
