Mark Wahlberg is explaining his on-set apology.
The 53-year-old Ted actor, who plays a villain in the new movie Flight Risk, felt he had to apologize to his co-stars regarding his standoffish behavior off-camera.
“I was locked into the part the whole time. I apologized at the end because I wasn’t very engaging off camera or outside of shooting, but I was just in [that] head space,” he told People.

In the film, he plays a mysterious pilot responsible for transporting a key government informant (Topher Grace) alongside a U.S. Marshal (Michelle Dockery). However, it’s revealed that Mark‘s character isn’t who he says he is, which results in his passengers forcibly removing him from the cockpit.

Flight Risk transforms a confined Cessna into a stark reflection of modern societal tension. U.S. Marshal Madelyn Harris (Michelle Dockery) transports mob informant Winston (Topher Grace) with pilot Daryl (Mark Wahlberg), whose aggressive demeanor crackles through threatening dialogue.
The plane, suspended over Alaskan emptiness, becomes a crucible for disintegrating trust and fragile control. Gibson’s direction oscillates between raw intensity and uneven storytelling, highlighting primal tensions: Wahlberg’s aggressive physicality contrasts with Dockery’s measured performance, while Grace embodies a nervous energy teetering between humor and desperation.
The malfunctioning navigation systems suggest deeper communication breakdowns. Alaska’s stark landscape emphasizes human vulnerability. Wahlberg’s character reveals masculinity’s performative nature—a facade masking deep insecurities. Survival emerges not through heroic action but random chance. The film captures a moment where human connections strain under extreme pressure, reflecting contemporary anxieties about unpredictability and interpersonal mistrust.

Mark Wahlberg apologised to his castmates after filming 'Flight Risk' because he'd been too consumed with his role to socialise. The 53-year-old actor stars in the movie as a hit man pretending to be a pilot while targeting US marshal Madelyn (Michelle Dockery) and fugitive Winston (Topher Grace), and he was so "locked in" to playing his villainous role, he admitted he wasn't particularly "engaging" when cameras weren't rolling.Mark - who hadn't played a villain since 1996's 'Fear' - told People magazine: "I was locked into the part the whole time. So if we weren't shooting, I was like either off in the corner by myself or I just would kind of go back to my little dressing room and just sit there."I was like the guy who was like constantly picking at them, poking them and prodding them, you know, from the back...

The Mel Gibson-directed Flight Risk is flying to an $11 million to $12 million opening at the domestic box office, according to Friday returns. If those estimates hold, the action-thriller film will come in on the higer end of expectations, or even ahead.
It’s the first film Gibson — whom Trump has named one of his ambassadors to Hollywood — has directed since 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge.
From Lionsgate, Flight Risk stars Mark Wahlberg as a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a mob-connected witness (Topher Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem — including the pilot.
Reviewers haven’t taken to the modestly budgeted movie. Ditto for audiences, which slapped it with a C CinemaScore.
While noting that it does provide some thrills, THR reviewer Frank Scheck writes, “its clunky dialogue, uneven performances and...

January movies tend to have a certain air to them. This time of year is not typically when Hollywood studios bring their A-game, unless we're talking about the expansion of an Oscar movie or something along those lines. For the most part, this stretch of the release calendar is full of a lot of schlock, with the occasional surprise. (The found footage monster flick "Cloverfield" is a great example of an exception to the rule.) I say this all to set the table before we talk about Mel Gibson's new crime thriller "Flight Risk," which has all of the markings of a typical January movie. In some ways, it is. In other ways, it's worse than typical. But no matter how one wants to slice it, this is the first out-and-out terrible movie of 2025.
The film centers on a pilot (Mark Wahlberg) who's commissioned to transport an Air Marshal...

One of the big surprises in the new movie Flight Risk is when Mark Wahlberg‘s baseball cap comes off and reveals his partially-bald head.
You might be wondering if Mark is wearing a bald cap or if he really shaved his head for the film. He has revealed the truth!
Keep reading to find out more…
Mark told People that he decided to shave his head every day instead of wearing a bald cap.
“There was no bald cap. I shaved the middle and left the horseshoe around the sides. We just shaved it,” he said. “They would shave the top as close to the scalp as possible every day, obviously, because we didn’t have any stubble or anything. So I just hid it with a hat.”

Mel Gibson’s Flight Risk is experiencing a rough take-off after taking to the skies with $950K in Thursday previews. The action-thriller starring Mark Wahlberg is Gibson’s first directorial effort since his World War II docudrama Hacksaw Ridge, so it’s quite the occasion. It remains unclear if Flight Risk has what it takes to climb to the top of the box office charts this weekend. Still, analysts say the movie could earn $9M-$11M, a fair chunk of change.
Mel Gibson directs Flight Risk from a script by Jared Rosenberg. The film finds Mark Wahlberg “playing a pilot transporting an Air Marshall (Michelle Dockery), accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar, and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.”
Flight Risk booked a plan for 3,100 theaters, of which 660 are Premium Large Format screens and 273 Motion Seat screens.

Mel Gibson returns to the director’s chair for the impressively economical single-location thriller Flight Risk. It’s undeniably trashy, thanks to an egregiously over-the-top performance by top-billed Mark Wahlberg, but it’s also surprisingly enjoyable.
In fairness, it’s not entirely a single-location thriller, as the film starts with fugitive mob accountant Winston (Topher Grace) being apprehended in his remote Alaska motel hide-out by Air Marshal Madolyn (Michelle Dockery), and offered a deal to testify against his boss in an ongoing trial. Winston takes the deal, and Madolyn charters a three-seater plane to fly him to New York, but her plan hits a snag when the pilot, Daryl (Mark Wahlberg) turns out to be a hired killer with orders to kill them both.

It’s weird to find an animal outside of its natural habitat. A penguin floating around the International Space Station instead of waddling through the Antarctic. A kangaroo in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles instead of hopping across the Outback. A skunk in the White House instead of… actually, no, that one fits. Anyway, it’s also weird to find a mediocre straight-to-dvd action movie inside of a major movie theater, instead of in the bargain bin at a Big Lots in 2010.
All of that is to say that “Flight Risk” is a bit of a novelty. It’s a sometimes competent, mostly not, low-concept aerial thriller about a U.S. Marshal escorting a mob witness in a tiny chartered plane over the wilds of Alaska. A few minutes into the flight they figure out the pilot is actually an assassin with an embarrassing haircut. For the rest...

Review: It feels like every time Mel Gibson releases a new movie, there’s talk of a “comeback.” Then he disappears for a decade, and all momentum is lost. It doesn’t help that he’s pretty controversial in his personal life, but I’ve always just focused on the film side of Gibson. His newest film, Flight Risk, sees him combining forces with Mark Wahlberg, who is finally taking a darker turn after decades of playing generic good guys. Does it result in a Markie Mark performance worth watching? Has Gibson actually returned to form, or is this more of a sign of more mediocrity to come? Well…

It’s more than a little odd when a director’s follow-up film to an Oscar-nominated hit is being offloaded onto theaters in the frozen tundra that is “dumpuary.” It’s weirder, still, when press materials make an effort to essentially erase the filmmaker’s name from the work entirely. It also isn’t every day that said filmmaker is Mel Gibson, a figure for which the word “controversial” does little to encapsulate his wild career and personal life.
So even if Lionsgate is coyly selling Flight Risk as “from the award-winning director of Braveheart, Apocalypto, and Hacksaw Ridge” without telling you who that award-winning director is, it doesn’t really matter. In fact, this anonymizing might turn out to be a good thing for Gibson. "Flight Risk" is a modest affair. It sports a downright frugal budget of $25 million, and is set almost entirely on board a small prop plane. There are only three on-screen actors for the bulk of the movie's mercifully brisk 91-minute runtime, and the concept is easy to get one's head around. In execution, it feels like a neophyte director's confident first turn. Perhaps shabby, but well-meaning, and only occasionally straining against its obviously limited means.
Only this isn't a first-time director's film. This is a film by Mel Gibson, the once-respected Oscar darling and hitmaker, now ostracized for his many offensive public outbursts and unhealthy personal viewpoints. Gibson, as a director, has overseen multiple weighty, violent historical pictures, many of them impressively staged and visually astounding. This was the man who upped the game of the Hollywood epic with "Braveheart," and turned Jesus' last few days into a brutal "Terrifier...

After the scope of Braveheart, The Passion Of The Christ, Apocalypto and Hacksaw Ridge, Mel Gibson is working on a smaller canvas for his sixth directorial feature. The kind of action thriller Hollywood is supposed not to make anymore, Flight Risk is a chamber piece, confined almost entirely to a single location — a rickety plane described as a “kite with seat belts”. It may not be particularly novel but it is well made, well performed by a cast who understand the assignment, and has enough twists, turns and tweaks to formula to keep it fresh. It also features the scary sight and sound of Mark Wahlberg warbling his way through New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’. Be warned.

What’s Good: The initial premise is fabulous and gives legs to the film the entire runtime.
What’s Bad: The film never fulfills the promises made by the setup, which creates a frustrating scenario that brings the film down.

Flight Risk (2025) Movie Review: Anyone who develops more than a passing taste for the movies is likely familiar with the infamous phenomenon of the January release date—a long-ridiculed time of year after studios have exhausted what’s left of their awards contenders, leaving little more than a dumping ground for whatever bomb-in-the-making they had in the tank to be dropped while everyone else catches up on their Oscar nominees. In recent years, however, the January release date has become something of a haven for cheesy thrillers and comedies with no delusions of grandeur, wherein the dreaded reputation of the season suddenly becomes a fertile hotbed for films designed to be “January films,” rather than those sidelined from a more prestigious release after testing poorly with focus groups.

Game performances from Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery and Topher Grace lift this silly but diverting action movie set almost entirely on a small aircraft
Irritating though it is to be conceding anything to the objectionable Mel Gibson (whose 2006 film Apocalypto is very good), his new film does serve up a fair bit of entertainment value. It is an action suspense thriller set almost entirely on board a rickety small-prop plane, flying in a desperately dangerous situation through the Alaska wilderness. First-time feature screenwriter Jared Rosenberg had his script on the Black List of unproduced screenplays for four years before Gibson picked it up.
Michelle Dockery plays Madelyn, a deputy US marshal who arrests a bespectacled mob accountant called Winston, played by Topher Grace; this white-collar malefactor had been hiding out in a squalid, remote Alaska hotel room. Lionsgate’s advertising campaign for “Flight Risk” credits its latest film to “the award-winning director of ‘Braveheart,’ ‘Apocalypto’ and ‘Hacksaw Ridge’,” which seems a circumspect way of recognizing Mel Gibson as its helmer. Unfortunately, the movie’s problem is not that it lacks Gibson’s name, but his personality as a filmmaker. Reminding audiences of those very good pictures sets expectations way, way too high ahead of watching this cheap-looking, shoddily-made, lifeless thriller.
Working from a Black List darling of a script by up-and-comer Jared Rosenberg, Gibson recruits his “Father Stu” co-star Mark Wahlberg to play the villain in a containment thriller that doesn’t even need Academy Award-winning talent, just basic proficiency and a bit of finesse in order to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Mel Gibson’s Flight Risk takes off under promising conditions for fans of no-frills action flicks. After tracking down sardonic mob accountant Winston (Topher Grace) in Alaska, dogged U.S. Marshal Madolyn (Michelle Dockery) must accompany him back to New York to testify against his high-profile gangster boss. Enter a vigorously gum-chewing Mark Wahlberg as Daryl, the local pilot who will be transporting them to Seattle in his small plane. Except that Daryl, with his too-enthusiastic, down-home chattiness and increasingly uncomfortable personal overtures, clearly has dubious intentions, setting the stage for an explosive situation at 30,000 feet above the Alaskan wilderness.
Unfortunately, when that situation does pop off around the 20-minute mark, Flight Risk makes no real attempt to significantly up the ante for the remaining 70. At this point, it’s revealed that Daryl is really an enforcer for the crime boss who employed Winston, leading to a brawl in which...

Hollywood history is littered with action films that begin as promising elevator pitches but ultimately devolve into forgettable slop by veering too far from their premises. Plenty of clever hooks have been squandered by messy second and third acts that felt the need to increase stakes and spectacle but ended up losing touch with the situation that piqued our interest in the first place. “Flight Risk” is no such film. Possibly the most January movie ever conceived, Mel Gibson’s latest directorial outing has always been bluntly honest about its value proposition for discerning moviegoers. You get to see a bald Mark Wahlberg impersonate a pilot to hijack a plane, forcing its two other passengers to fight him while simultaneously trying to figure out how to fly it in real time.
If that doesn’t sound exciting, you can just stop reading and feel confident in your decision to skip “Flight Risk.

Mel Gibson’s first directorial effort since 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge finds the new ambassador to Hollywood working on a distinctly more intimate scale than usual. The inside of a small Cessna plane, to be precise, which is where most of the action of Flight Risk takes place. Depicting the harrowing aerial journey of a deputy U.S. Marshall, her mob-connected witness, and a pilot who turns out to be a hit man, Flight Risk manages to deliver some high-altitude thrills in its breathlessly paced 91 minutes. But its clunky dialogue, uneven performances and less-than-grade-a special effects ultimately make it the Spirit Airlines of airborne thrillers.
The screenplay by Jared Rosenberg is nothing if not efficient, quickly establishing its premise when Deputy Marshall Madolyn (Michelle Dockery) and other officers burst into the tacky Alaskan motel room where mob accountant Winston (Topher Grace) is hiding after making the mistake of skimming millions from his boss.

Finally, the American public learns how it would have gone down on 9/11 had Mark Wahlberg boarded American Airlines Flight 11. Turns out that he wasn’t wrong about the amount of blood he’d have spilled in the cabin. It’s just that half of it would’ve been his, and...

Mel Gibson directs a new movie starring Mark Wahlberg, as Flight Risk gives audiences an opportunity to watch the star actor play a villain. The anticipated 2025 action movie centers around a witness being taken to trial by a U.S. Marshal, only to learn that the pilot flying the plane is actually a hitman hired to kill him. Wahlberg stars as the hitman, with Topher Grace playing the witness and Michelle Dockery playing the U.S. Marshal. Flight Risk is directed by Mel Gibson, marking the first film he's directed since 2016's Hacksaw Ridge.
The original action thriller has distribution by Lionsgate. The film has an exclusive theatrical release first before it becomes available on streaming or digital at home. However, audiences had to wait longer for Flight Risk than anticipated, as Mark Wahlberg's villain role return was originally meant to happen in October 2024. Instead of releasing it in a...

"That '70s Show" went on for eight seasons, although most fans agree that not all of those seasons were created equal. Where exactly is the cutoff line between good "That '70s Show" and bad "That '70s Show?" Some say it's around the point where Donna went blonde. Others say it was shortly after Kelso and Donna returned from California. Some say the decline started as early as mid-season 3, when Lisa Robin Kelly left the show. One thing's clear, though: nobody cares much for season 8, because that's the season where Eric (Topher Grace) isn't in it.
In a certain sense, Eric's departure was inevitable. He was the smart, bookish member of the gang, someone who should've surely gone off to college shortly after season 5, but the show's longevity had the writers jumping through hoops to explain why he was sticking around so long after high school in seasons 6 and 7. Red's heart...

Having initially lied about her age to earn a shot at the auditions, Mila Kunis successfully landed the That ’70s Show gig opposite Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson, which would prove to be a breakout role for her. Although the actress has looked back fondly on her experience in the show, some aspects of the sitcom haven’t aged well.

While it’s not much of a stretch to see how Mel Gibson might appreciate the work of Ridley Scott — both are fans of massive battle scenes after all, having directed films like “Braveheart” and “The Last Duel” — Gibson recently spoke in an interview on “The Joe Rogan Experience” about how Scott’s imagery has kept him striving to go further as a filmmaker.
“I’m pretty average at most things, but I’m good at a couple of things. I know how to tell a story on film, I know how to do that,” said Gibson. “That’s a weird place to be, but I think a lot can be achieved by art and image and you can convey a lot without actually having to say it. You can do things to affect people emotionally or spiritually even without being overt.”

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 would have forced Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man to keep breaking his golden rule thanks to a cruel Marvel villain. Only the McU's Spider-Man will reach his fourth solo installment with Sony and Marvel Studios' upcoming Spider-Man 4. Plans for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4 were canceled after The Amazing Spider-Man 2's box office disappointment, as were Sony's plans for their Sinister Six spinoff. Just a few years before, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 was delayed indefinitely, until Raimi and Sony decided not to move forward with the project.
According to various sources throughout the years, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 went through various drafts before its cancelation. Some drafts had Dylan Baker's Curt Connors transform into the Lizard, and others introduced John Malkovich's Adrian Toomes a.k.a. Vulture. Some versions of Spider-Man 4 also featured Anne Hathaway's Black Cat and others Angelina Jolie's Vulturess.

Mel Gibson has directed the incoming film Flight Risk. But the new trailer is going to some lengths not to mention his name.
Delayed since last year, the film Flight Risk is the kind of fare that we’re getting used to seeing at the start of the year. We had Plane a year or two ago around this time, and the mighty The Beekeeper became a useful hit 12 months ago. Flight Risk involves a plane, Mark Wahlberg going mad on said plane, and an FBI agent trying to bring him down.
A new trailer popped up this week, and what’s interesting about it is how far it goes not to mention its director.

‘Flight Risk’ is an exciting action thriller movie directed by Mel Gibson and written by Jared Rosenberg. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Topher Grace, and Michelle Dockery. The film will be released in the U.S. by Lionsgate on January 24, 2025.
The film follows a U.S. Marshal escorting a witness to trial, but they soon find out that the pilot flying them is actually a hitman hired to kill the informant. After capturing him, they must all work together to survive as other threats try to eliminate them.
The movie spent a lot of time in development. In December 2020, Jared Rosenberg’s screenplay for the movie was named one of the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood. In May 2023, it was announced that Mel Gibson would direct and Mark Wahlberg would star.
Now the first trailer for the movie is here and it’s showcasing a drastically different look at Mark Wahlberg:...

Mark Wahlberg plays an unhinged, balding hitman masquerading as a chatty helicopter pilot in a new trailer for Mel Gibson’s upcoming thriller, Flight Risk.
The film also stars Michelle Dockery, an Air Marshal escorting a nervous fugitive — played by Topher Grace — to New York City, where he stands to testify against the head of a crime family. But the friendly, smooth-talking pilot who is tasked with flying the duo over the Alaskan wilderness, is actually an assassin-for-hire whose mission is to take out the witness at all costs.
