“Silo” Season 2 came to a fiery end last week — delivering a finale designed to leave viewers with plenty of questions about the Apple TV+ sci-fi drama’s next steps and the fates of both Bernard (Tim Robbins) and Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson). The series has already been renewed for a third season, as well as a fourth that is being billed as its last, which means fans will get to see its latest mysteries resolved eventually. When that will be is unclear, as Apple has yet to announce a return date for “Silo.”
Fortunately, while “Silo” has an atmosphere, tone, and look that are entirely its own, there are a few series that scratch many of the same itches as it. Here are six shows, in particular, that we here at TheWrap recommend you watch while you wait for “Silo” Season 3.

A tradition stretching back to genre pioneers like 1973’s pagan freakout The Wicker Man, British folk horror can be bonkers (Alex Garland’s Men), hypnotically abstract (Mark Jenkin’s Enys Men) or disorienting (Ben Wheatley’s In the Earth). What it ideally shouldn’t be is boring. Bryn Chainey’s Rabbit Trap has a creepy sense of dread, striking images of invasive nature and an intriguing baseline about the otherworldly properties of sound, making it a somewhat promising debut feature. “With your eyes you enter the world, with your ears the world enters you,” says one of the characters. Which would mean something if the muddled story were coherent enough to achieve any kind of psychological penetration.

In what sounds like a match made in heaven hell, The Sadness director Rob Jabbaz is set to helm the upcoming feature adaptation of Garth Ennis' Crossed.
Following the massive success of Prime Video's The Boys, we got word that Ennis' even more twisted, depraved and downright diabolical horror series is headed to the big screen late last year. The movie is in development at indie outfit Six Studios, and Ennis has already completed the script.
“It has been a real delight working with Garth Ennis and Six Studios developing Crossed for the big screen,” said Jabbaz. “From day one, our primary goal has been to deliver a faithful adaptation of the original series, along with a few new surprises. I certainly hope audiences are ready for this.”
Crossed and its various spin-offs are generally considered to be among the most disturbing comics of all time, and with good reason.

Exclusive: Edmund Donovan, an up-and-comer known for roles in Alex Garland’s Civil War and Sundance genre-bender Your Monster, has landed a key role opposite Willem Dafoe and Greta Lee in Late Fame, the new film from director Kent Jones (Diane), which is entering production this week.
Written by May December‘s Samy Burch, Late Fame is a portrait of Ed Saxberger (Dafoe), a postal worker who wrote and published poetry such a long time ago that he’s forgotten he ever was a poet. When a group of young writers and students rediscovers one of his books and reclaims him as one of their own, he finds, against his better judgment, that he likes it: the attention and the hero worship draw him out of his solitary routines and renew his spirit. How quickly he starts to see himself as a true artist… how coarse and vulgar his old friends begin to look.

A24’s latest high concept horror film has the grandiose title of Opus, and the trailer has landed. Take a look here.
Film studio A24 has proved itself to be a frontrunner in bold, original, risk taking storytelling, usually with small budgets and tidy profits. From distributing daring titles like Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, Alex Garland’s directorial debut Ex Machina and Robert Eggers’ The Witch, it soon moved into producing. Examples? The Safdie Brothers’ anxiety inducing Uncut Gems, Ari Aster’s Hereditary and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s Oscar winning Everything Everywhere All At Once. A24 has become quite the stamp.
Its next release is the thriller Opus. And the synopsis for it reads as follows…

28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland have finally reunited to make a sequel to their zombie movie classic. As we reporter earlier this year, this sequel is set up at Sony, is going to be called 28 Years Later – and it’s meant to launch a whole trilogy of 28 Days Later sequels. The theatrical release date is June 20th, 2025… and when the film reaches the screen, Garland has said that fans will find that 28 Years Later does not conflict with the previous sequel 28 Weeks Later, even if canon isn’t something Boyle pays much attention to.
The cast of 28 Years Later includes Jodie Comer (The Bikeriders), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (The Fall Guy), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), and Erin Kellyman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier). In the original film, Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) played bicycle courier Jim, who wakes up from a coma to find himself...

Cosmo Jarvis, star of FX’s smash hit period series “Shōgun,” has landed a role in Guy Ritchie’s next film, “Wife & Dog.”
The Brit joins a heady lineup of names already confirmed for the feature, first announced by Variety last year and set to see Ritchie return to the colourful, backstabbing world of the British upper classes (doubling down on a subject he recently explored in “The Gentleman” film and TV series). Benedict Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike and Anthony Hopkins have been announced as leading the feature and, while plot details remain under wraps, Jarvis is understood to be to playing Hopkins’ son and Pike’s sister.
The “Wife & Dog” screenplay is written by Ritchie, who also produces alongside long-time producing partner, Ivan Atkinson and Black Bear’s John Friedberg. Executive producers include Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler for Black Bear.

Warfare's release date has been announced by A24, and it means that Alex Garland's new movie could repeat Civil War's success. After Ex Machina, Annihilation, Men, and Civil War, Garland co-wrote and co-directed his next project alongside Ray Mendoza, and the film is based on the former's experiences during the Iraq War, following a platoon of Navy SEALs on a mission through insurgent territory in 2006. The cast includes D'Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Michael Gandolfini, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, Henrique Zaga, Joseph Quinn, and Charles Melton.
Per Deadline, A24 has set a nationwide theatrical release for Warfare on April 11. This is around the same time that Alex Garland's Civil War opened to much box office success for the studio in 2024. Other movies opening on April 11 include Christopher Landon's thriller Drop from Universal/Blumhouse, the espionage thriller The Amateur...

28 Days Later marked the second collaboration for director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland after 2000's The Beach. While the latter isn't widely seen as a seminal work for either creative, the former certainly is. The 2002 zombie thriller stars Cillian Murphy as Jim, a survivor who attempts to traverse London in search of sanctuary following the outbreak of the Rage Virus in the U.K.
Boyle and Garland returned as executive producers for the sequel, 28 Weeks Later (2007), but Boyle is now back as director and Garland as screenwriter for the upcoming 28 Years Later, which marks a reunion after 18 years of working on their own projects. In those 18 years, Boyle directed movies like Slumdog Millionaire (2008), 127 Hours (2010), and Steve Jobs (2015), while Garland moved into directing with projects like Ex Machina (2014), Annihilation (2018), and Civil War (2024). Now, it's been revealed why the pair didn't work together for so long.

Presence is an upcoming supernatural horror thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh from a screenplay by David Koepp. The upcoming film revolves around a family who move into a suburban neighborhood and soon believe their house is haunted. While the plot for Presence sounds like a typical horror film, the ultimate twist, aka hook for the upcoming Soderbergh film, is that the film is shot from the ghost’s perspective.

Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz have been cast in guest star roles in an upcoming episode of “The Equalizer,” which could set up a potential spinoff based on their characters.
It was first reported in November that CBS was eyeing a spinoff of the Queen Latifah-led reboot of the 1980s action crime drama of the same name. Now, Welliver and Feliz will appear in episode 16 of the show’s ongoing fifth season with series regular options should the spinoff move forward.
Welliver will play Hudson Reed, described as “a former top CIA operative with a dark secret who is connected to Robin McCall (Queen Latifah) by an old mentor.” Feliz will play Samanta Reed, who is said to be “trained by her father to be a weapons expert, skilled martial artist and true chameleon all while hiding a mysterious past.”
Welliver is coming off of a decade-long stint playing the character Det.

The filmmakers behind 28 Years Later have explained its connection to the previous installment's ending. The original 2002 movie 28 Days Later introduced a rage virus that transformed the majority of the UK's population into zombie-like disease-spreaders. While the virus had largely burned out by the end of the movie, repopulation efforts in 2007's 28 Weeks Later saw it spread once more, ending with a sequence of Infected running through Paris. In the upcoming 28 Years Later, while the rage virus has affected the outside world somewhat, it is once more primarily isolated to the UK, which has been quarantined.

After a couple of postponements in consideration of the ongoing wildfires in California, the Writers Guild of America announced on Wednesday the nominations for the 2025 WGA Awards honoring film, TV, and several other mediums.
As always, the guild’s film nominations come with the caveat that any script not written by a guild member or under a WGA collective bargaining agreement was deemed ineligible, so major screenplay Oscar contenders like “The Brutalist” and “The Substance” were left out. What was nominated in their stead is the real indicator of some titles that are still not out of the awards race just yet.

The ineligible adapted scripts were Golden Globe champ Conclave (by Peter Straughan), Emilia Pérez (by Jacques Audiard), I’m Still Here (by Walter Salles), Inside Out 2 (by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein with a...

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has unveiled its nominees for the 2025 WGA Awards, highlighting a mix of familiar Oscar frontrunners, unexpected entries, and the creative reshuffling prompted by ineligible contenders.
Sean Baker’s critically acclaimed “Anora” is leading the original screenplay list, which many consider the Oscar frontrunner in this category. Another strong contender is Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain,” a personal, semi-autobiographical drama that has been a critical favorite this season.
The inclusion of Justin Kuritzkes’ “Challengers” — a romantic sports drama starring Zendaya — is significant. After its high-profile shutout at the BAFTA Awards, this nomination could rejuvenate its awards season momentum. Adding variety to the category is Alex Garland’s bold post-apocalyptic thriller, “Civil War,” and Megan Park’s sweet yet irreverent comedy, “My Old Ass.” Park, who won praise for her directorial debut “The Fallout,” is also a DGA nominee for first-time director.

The fact that Cillian Murphy's Jim is not returning in 28 Years Later is disappointing, but it will make the second and third films in the upcoming trilogy more exciting. Murphy played the leading role in 2002's 28 Days Later, the franchise's first movie. However, he did not return for 2007's 28 Weeks Later. This is why it was exciting when it was revealed that Murphy would return for the trilogy that will continue the long-stagnant franchise. However, it has been revealed that Murphy will not appear in the first film in the trilogy, the upcoming 28 Years Later.

They chase you. There were so many moments where I felt like I was actually running for my life!"Although Comer was fearful on set, she revealed that Boyle was in his element as he returned to the franchise more than two decades on from the original film '28 Days Later'.The 31-year-old star recalled: "He just said, 'I love this stuff'."I said, 'Why?' When Danny Boyle and Alex Garland unleashed 28 Days Later back in 2002, they also introduced something new into the horror ecosystem: the running dead. Previously, zombies in cinema had been slow, shuffling, shambling things, creeping ever-forward in the night. But the very nature of 28 Days Later’s infected – technically not zombies, but humans who have contracted a blood-spewing rage virus – saw the afflicted sprint at a terrifying pace, with heart-pounding results.
Even decades on, the cardio-prone terrors have lost none of their power – as Jodie Comer found out on the set of Boyle and Garland’s much-anticipated follow-up, 28 Years Later. “The thing about our stunt performers playing the infected is they really don’t take the speed off for you,” she tells Empire. “They chase you. Michael Gracey's Better Man is on track for several awards, but its chances of winning an Oscar have just been cut very drastically. Is Steven Soderbergh preparing to join the “Star Wars” universe? Or is he just a huge fan of George Lucas and Tony Gilroy?
The filmmaker behind classics like “Ocean’s 11” and “Traffic,” as well as the upcoming supernatural horror “Presence,” released his 2024 watch list last week, as he has done for many years now, sharing it via his “Soderblog” under “Seen, Read 2024.” Included on the list are a range of films, television shows, and shorts, as well as novels, short stories, and plays, but of particular note are his multiple viewings of “Star Wars” films across the year, seemingly sparked by his watching the Disney+ “Rogue One” spin-off series “Andor” from Tony Gilroy. Soderbergh and Gilroy are longtime friends and collaborators, the former having helped finance the latter’s “Michael Clayton.” They also did a commentary track together for Carol Reed’s “The Third Man” that’s really worth a listen.

Over two decades after the release of the genre-defining zombie film 28 Days Later, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland are returning to the realm of horror with the long-awaited 28 Years Later. Essentially helping to jump-start the zombie craze of the 2000s, 28 Days Later follows an average bicycle courier named Jim (Cillian Murphy) who awakens from a month-long coma to find all of London has been besieged by a zombie rage virus. Eschewing the tropes of earlier zombie media, the walkers of 28 Days Later were faster, meaner, and more frightening than their predecessors.
Though Garland and Boyle were only involved peripherally, a sequel was released in 2007 entitled 28 Weeks Later which continued the post-apocalyptic story and was well-received. Meanwhile, the 28 Days Later franchise helped to bring the zombie film back into vogue, and is directly responsible for movies like the Dawn of the Dead remake, spoofs like Shaun of the Dead,...

28 Years Later 3's filming start window and director Danny Boyle's involvement has been revealed ahead of the new trilogy's launch. Written by Alex Garland and directed by Boyle, who were both behind the original 28 Days Later from 2002, the upcoming post-apocalyptic horror film follows an all-new group of survivors living on a small island community in the UK. Their story will be told across an entire trilogy, continuing in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta, which has already been shot.
Now, according to Empire, Boyle will be back to direct the third 28 Years Later. However, filming won't begin until after he's seen the responses to the first one.

As studios, production houses, and agents return from the holidays and burn off the last energy of this ceaseless, shameless awards season, numerous projects are finding lifeblood. Case in point: at Wednesday’s New York Film Critics Circle dinner I had a brief exchange with Annie Baker, who was present to accept their Best First Film honor and casually mentioned a new project that’s set up at A24, who’d shepherded Janet Planet to such success. She was tight-lipped on further details (like I could help asking), but a couple inquiries confirmed casting is in motion; likely shooting commences before long.

When the first trailer for 28 Years Later was unleashed, it's fair to say almost everyone convinced themselves into believing they'd spotted Cillian Murphy as one of the rage-infected zombies.
That was later debunked, of course, but will we see Murphy's Jim in Danny Boyle's long-awaited follow-up to 28 Days Later and - the slightly less well-received - 28 Weeks Later? Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like this movie is going to mark an on-screen reunion for the actor and filmmaker.
Producer Andrew Macdonald tells Empire Online (via FearHQ.com), "[On] this, we wanted him to be involved and he wanted to be involved. He is not in the first film, but I’m hoping there will be some Jim somewhere along the line."
"He’s involved at the moment as an executive producer," Macdonald adds, "and I would hope we can work with him in some way in the future in the trilogy.

With 28 Years Later, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are preparing to take audiences further into the post-rage-virus apocalypse than ever before. In their original 28 Days Later, the societal collapse had only really just begun. But decades on, there are scattered survivors finding a way to live in the ruins of what came before – not just the Holy Island community that plays home to Aaron-Taylor Johnson’s Jamie, Jodie Comer’s Isla, and their son Spike (Alfie Williams), but other mysterious figures. Take, for instance, Ralph Fiennes’ Dr. Kelson – a physically imposing figure who’ll play a part both in this year’s 28 Years Later, and Nia DaCosta’s already-shot follow-up, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, expected to arrive in 2026.
With his stark appearance, bloodied visage and proximity to that towering structure of skulls (as seen in our exclusive image above), place your bets now on whether Kelson will be friend or foe.

After skipping the second film in the upcoming series, Danny Boyle will be directing the end of the new 28 Years Later trilogy.
Danny Boyle began the 28 Days Later series in 2002 before handing over stewardship of the British zombie horror series to Juan Carlos Fresnadillo for 2007’s 28 Weeks Later. As we’ve known for some time now, things are set to follow a similar path this time around, as Boyle resurrects the series with this year’s highly-anticipated 28 Years Later.
That film is arriving this summer and is set to be followed in January of 2026 with 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. However, Boyle is once again stepping away for the sequel with Candyman director, Nia DaCosta coming in to direct the sequel. Both instalments have been written by Alex Garland, the wordsmith behind all of the 28 films.

Fans will have to wait a little longer for Cillian Murphy‘s triumphant return to the 28 Days Later franchise.
Although the Oscar winner is involved in the upcoming threequel as an executive producer, 28 Years Later producer Andrew Macdonald recently explained that Murphy “wanted to be involved” but won’t appear in the film, which premieres June 20.
“[On] this, we wanted him to be involved and he wanted to be involved,” he told Empire. “He is not in the first film, but I’m hoping there will be some Jim somewhere along the line.”
Macdonald noted, “He’s involved at the moment as an executive producer, and I would hope we can work with him in some way in the future in the trilogy.”

When last we checked in on Cillian Murphy's return to Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's rage-virus-fueled franchise, we were debunking the fan theory that the 2024 Academy Award winner had signed on to appear as a zombie in "28 Years Later." Yes, the emaciated figure rising out of a field in the film's first trailer bore a slight resemblance to the actor, but this undead character is actually portrayed by the strikingly gaunt performer Angus Neill.
This knocked fans of the movies back to square one with their harmlessly wild speculation as to how Murphy would reappear as Jim in the long-awaited third installment in the series -- the first since 2007's "28 Weeks Later." For some, this came as a relief; while it might be momentarily amusing to write Murphy out of the universe as a zombie, surely Jim deserves better. After all, we experienced the horror...
