Part of the reason "Bones" lasted as long as it did was because of its unique blend of humor and drama. The show ran for 12 seasons, showcasing throughout an incongruous but somehow charming mix of humorous banter between its characters with some pretty horrific crime scenes and depraved serial killers. But while the humor and the horror were two separate elements, in a way the grotesque bodies on "Bones" were sort of part of the comedy.
Some of the fake corpses made for the show were beyond things you might see in an all-out horror film. There were fresh bodies on "Bones" that even went too far for the show's producers, and one particular body had Zack Addy actor Eric Millegan extra grossed out. These are just two examples from a show filled with some of the most absurdly detailed gore yet seen on a network show. There was even...

Sometimes, actors will tap into their own experiences to improve their work, especially if their character is going through something that they've experienced themselves. Luckily, David Boreanaz, who played FBI agent Seeley Booth on the Fox procedural "Bones," has never — to anyone's knowledge — endured a situation where his real-life child was in danger. Nevertheless, he had to access the emotions he would feel in that situation during a season 2 episode titled "The Man in the Cell."
In "Bones: The Official Companion Book" by Paul Ruditis, Boreanaz recalled a moment during "The Man in the Cell" when Booth's son Parker (Ty Panitz) is approached by a dangerous serial killer (though he's left unharmed), and said that he did use his own knowledge as a parent to feel what Booth would feel in the moment. "Being a dad myself and having that kind of connection, I use that in my work a lot,...

"Bones" episodes usually followed a fairly simple plot: A body was found and it was up to Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel), and FBI agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) to find out what happened. This was how "Bones" worked, with each episode offering up its own mini mystery that was usually solved by the end of the installment. Except, quite often, the show would introduce viewers to a serial killer, prompting multi-episode storylines which could often be tricky for an episodic series.
Throughout the show's run, we were introduced to The Ghost Killer, The Gravedigger, and The Hacktivist, who was responsible for serving Bones and Booth with a fresh body that went a little too far even for the show's producer. There was also season 3's cannibal killer The Gormogon, whose storyline Boreanaz once called, in about as candid a way as possible, "just bad television." But the very first...

The Watchers and other horror films like Dark Was the Night delve into folklore and the creepy magic of the environment. Despite flaws, The Watchers is a fun watch with great performances & interesting Irish folklore. Films like The Wretched & It Follows offer thrilling supernatural elements, like The Watchers
Many great horror movies exist with similar themes, genres, and plot devices to Ishana Night Shyamalan's The Watchers. The new horror movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan's daughter tells the story of a young woman named Mina who gets stuck in a forest alongside three strangers named Madeline, Daniel, and Ciara. The four must follow the rules of mysterious supernatural creatures lest they be murdered. 12 years is a lifetime in the world of television, and it's practically unheard of for an original scripted series to survive that long in the streaming era. It's even more unusual for shows to retain the same core cast once they reach 10 seasons or longer (unless they're a weirdo like "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" or an animated institution like "The Simpsons"), and yet, for the most part, that's exactly what "Bones" managed to do across its 246 episodes. Oh sure, Hart Hanson's hit procedural saw its share of turnover when it came to actors. Still, the ambiguously platonic turned romantic duo of Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) solved a surprising number of crimes with many of the same experts again and again, including Tamara Taylor's Camille "Cam" Saroyan.

A major hedge fund with a reputation for aggressive cost cutting got the greenlight on Friday to acquire Tribune Publishing, the owner of big city dailies such as The Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Sun, the Orlando Sentinel and The New York Daily News.
Tribune shareholders approved the deal with Alden Global Capital, dashing the hopes of a number of employees at the publications who fear that they will soon see jobs lost and coverage scaled back. There had been hopes that the largest shareholder of Tribune, Patrick Soon-Shiong, who owns the Los Angeles Times and the San Diego Union Tribune, would try to block the deal, but he abstained from voting. A spokesperson said that he viewed his Tribune stake, which is almost 24%, as a “passive investment,” and that he was concentrating on his California holdings, which are facing their own set of financial challenges.
The deal was valued at $630 million.

"You need to be willing to put yourself at risk." Vertical Ent. has released another official US trailer for The Seventh Day, a freaky new Australian exorcism thriller from filmmaker Justin P. Lange (The Dark). This looks like many other exorcism thrillers but with a few clever twists, as Guy Pearce plays Father Peter, a renown exorcist training younger priests. He teams up with a rookie priest and takes him out on his first day of training - identifying possession and learning the rites of exorcism. As they plunge deeper into hell on earth, the lines between good and evil blur, and their own demons emerge. With Keith David, Stephen Lang, Robin Bartlett, Heath Freeman, Hannah Alline, Major Dodge, and Vadhir Derbez. This still looks like Training Day with exorcists, which is a pretty cool concept to play around with. Take a look. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Justin P.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Rlj Entertainment. Director: Jack Heller. Writer: Tyler Hisel. Cast: Steve Agee, Nick Damici, Kevin Durand and Heath Freeman. Dark Was the Night is the latest film from rookie director Jack Heller (Enter Nowhere). The film, from the promotional material, appears to be a creature feature. But, Dark Was the Night is centrally a family drama; the creatures lurk around the edges of the central setting, Maiden Woods. Though, they do make a late CGI appearance. Starring horror vet Nick Damici (Late Phases) and Kevin Durand, the film offers three mediocre themes: the male protection of femininity, the Devil as evil and a minor one involving hunting, or the creature(s) being a hunter. All of these themes could have been forgotten for a more important one, involving humanity's encroachment on nature. As it is, Dark Was the Night is a fairly standard horror outing.

Monster films seem to be having a nice little comeback. We seem to be venturing away from the “Grindhouse” homage films, the torture porn films and the other tropes the genre got stuck in. A film that is on my radar is Dark Was The Night, which was adapted from a screenplay that was on The Blacklist a few years back. We just got word that we shouldn’t have to wait too long to see this flick starring Kevin Durand (The Strain) and Lukas Haas (Lady in White, Inception, Brick). Read below for the official word. We’ve also included a trailer that was posted last year for the film.

Over the past 9 years, Bones has flirted off and on with recurring serial killers, with varying degrees of success. Tonight’s “The Sense in the Sacrifice” is the conclusion of the Pelant Era. All of the fragments of information and hints dating back to last season are strung together and the ending is one many fans would say is a long time coming.
But what happens when the Pelant (Andrew Leeds) arc as a whole is compared alongside the arcs of Howard Epps (Heath Freeman) from seasons 1 and 2, the Gormogon in season 3, as well as Jacob Broadsky (Arnold Vosloo) from season 6? Does Bones reduce, reuse and recycle plot lines that have worked in the past ...

Stars: Shiloh Fernandez, Ashley Greene, Heath Freeman, Brett Cullen, Haley Ramm, Taylor Handley | Written byAnthony Burns, Heath Freeman | Directed by Anthony Burns
Finally released on DVD in the UK after premiering almost three years ago at Sundance and a whopping 16 months after it’s UK premiere on Sky Movies, Skateland is set in the early 1980?s in small-town Texas and tells the story of the dramatic events that force a 19-year old skating rink manager (Fernandez) to look at his life in a new way.
One part Adventureland and one part Richard Linklater’sDazed and Confused, Skateland is yet another period-set coming of age story set in the early 80s and follows a very similar format to Linklater’s film – kids hanging out shooting the shit while contemplating their future. However unlike Linklater’s film, which had interesting characters, a great, and funny, script and a refreshing take on 70s life,...

In A Better World (Sony) Winner of last year’s Best Foreign Film Oscar, this Danish export looks at two fractured families and the effect that the adult world dysfunction has on their two sons, who form an immediate and potentially deadly bond. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Deleted scenes; Commentary by Bier and editor Pernille Bech Christensen; Interview with Bier. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS-hd 5.1 surround.
X-men First Class (20th Century Fox) “Origins” film set in the early 1960s, traces the beginnings of Magento and Professor X (played ably here by Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy), and how the once-close friends and colleagues became bitter enemies. Title: Skateland Directed By: Anthony Burns Starring: Shiloh Fernandez, Heath Freeman, Ashley Greene, Taylor Handley, Haley Ramm, Brett Cullen, A.J. Buckley, Melinda McGraw Yes, the summer movie season is revving up, but before you switch gears and put your brain on cruise control, there’s a little something on the more thoughtful side to check out. Forget the fact that it involves zero CGI, Skateland is simple, sheerly in terms of story. Some moments do drag, but overall, Skateland is a nice and leisurely walk in some modest characters’ shoes. Ritchie Wheeler (Shiloh Fernandez) is a recent high school grad and aspiring writer. Well, perhaps aspiring isn’t the right word as...

There have been many movies about the '80s but few look back at the period with such a sense of nostalgia and sentimentality as Anthony Burns' Skateland , a film set in a small town in Texas where the local skating rink of the same name is the main hangout for most of the town's teens. Shiloh Fernandez's Ritchie Wheeler has been managing Skateland for years since graduating high school, but he's yet to find the ambition to do something else with his life. Playing Ritchie's childhood friend Michelle Burkham is Ashley Greene, the 24-year-old actress best known for playing Alice Cullen in the "Twilight" movies, and she helps push him to try to do more with his writing. Her older brother Brent, played by the film's co-writer Heath Freeman, is a motocross biker whose return...
