In 2003, Polo Ralph Lauren gave a grant to fund the opening of the center, which targets medically under-served communities. This October, American fashion icon Ralph Lauren celebrates the 10th birthday of his Pink Pony Fund. For the past decade, Lauren's cashmere sweaters (bearing the dashing pink-pony logo), crocodile handbags, and silk scarves—to name just a few items—have funded the growth of cancer care in under-served communities. Case in point: six years ago, Lauren's donations underwrote the opening of the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention. Located in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, the center offers cancer screening, early diagnosis, treatment, and research for patients.
