Denis Villeneuve already has several sci-fi projects under his belt, and all of them were highly critically acclaimed. His most recent ‘Dune: Part Two’ earned 5 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture nomination, ‘Dune’ released in 2021 earned won 6 Oscars.
Villeneuve is currently in the early stages of development of the second book in the ‘Dune’ series – ‘Dune Messiah’ and it will serve as the sequel to the previous two films.
Now in his most recent interview, Villeneuve admitted that he is eyeing one more sci-fi project, a notable sci-fi epic ‘Rendezvous with Rama.’
Villeneuve said ‘Rendezvous with Rama’ is similar to ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ as it involves astronauts encountering another civilization. Unlike ‘Dune,’ it focuses on realistic, future technology, making it “hard science fiction,” which he’s excited to explore for the first time in his career. He hopes to take on such a project at least once in his life.

Consumers in the United States are about to pay the price for Donald Trump seeking revenge. The president announced “emergency tariffs” of 25 percent on all Colombian goods to the United States, along with other “retaliatory measures,” because President Gustavo Petro refused to accept two U.S. military flights of deported Colombian migrants. According to Trump, the tariffs will escalate to 50 percent in one week.

These days, no matter how many Get Outs and Parasites we throw at them, Hollywood is reluctant to make any movie that isn’t part of a franchise. There was a time, however, when the bigwigs could be approached with a sequel idea and say, “Actually, that’s good enough to stand on its own.” They weren’t always right, but at least they could say it.

You might know that Die Hard is based on a book, 1979’s Nothing Lasts Forever, but did you know that it’s actually a sequel to 1966’s The Detective? That’s right: Die Hard is technically Die Hard 2. In fact, The Detective had already been adapted in 1968, and the star of that film, Frank Sinatra, had it written into his contract that he must be offered the starring role in any sequels. Don’t hold your breath waiting for Benedict Cumberbatch to put his Sherlock coat and scarf back on.
Cumberbatch, who played the legendary sleuth for four seasons on PBS/Masterpiece’s modern remake, was blunt when asked by our sister site Variety what it would take for him to reprise his role as Sherlock Holmes. “A lot of money,” he said, adding that a new season of Sherlock would have “to be better than it ever was. Former detective Pat Postiglione has revealed David Fincher's $327 million thriller gets some crime-solving details right, but called out Brad Pitt's character for inaccuracy. Fincher's best movies include plenty that focus on criminal activities, whether it's through the perspective of the people committing the acts, or law enforcement investigating what transpired. His latest crime film is 2023's The Killer, focusing on an unnamed hitman (Michael Fassbender) who seeks revenge after his girlfriend gets attacked. It's been critically praised for its dark elements and thrilling storyline.
However, at the opposite end of that are his projects focusing on criminal investigations. One of his best known movies in the genre is Zodiac, dramatizing the real-life manhunt for the Zodiac Killer in the 1960s and 1970s. In keeping with this realism, he also created Mindhunter, a TV show on Netflix focusing on two detectives interviewing serial killers. While Mindhunter season 3 was...

It was neither Marvel nor Lord of the Rings that first sparked Benedict Cumberbatch’s international fame. The MCU actor, who is now popularly known for portraying the suave role of Doctor Strange in the Marvel multiverse, became popular after his BBC series Sherlock made the entire world fall in love with the eccentric detective all over again.

The closing lines of David Fincher’s 1995 crime thriller Se7en reveal the bleak yet humane position that Morgan Freeman’s Detective Somerset takes after he witnesses a truly heartbreaking moment with his partner Detective Mills, played by Brad Pitt. Freeman says, “The world is a fine place and is worth fighting for. I agree with the second part.”
The bleak ending is preceded by Pitt’s discovery that his wife, played by Gwyneth Paltrow has been killed, and her dismembered head has been sent to him in a box. Though the audience never sees the contents of the box, it is implied that it is Paltrow’s head. David Fincher recently revealed what the box really had.

It Ends With Us director and star Justin Baldoni's lawyer confirms that the actor plans to sue co-star Blake Lively and others for alleging that Baldoni sexually harassed Lively and orchestrated a smear campaign against the actor during the film's promotion. Baldoni and his legal team have already filed a libel lawsuit against the New York Times for a story that contained selected texts and emails that supported the allegation, published a day after Lively filed a sexual harassment complaint against Baldoni with the California Civil Rights Department.
Baldoni's lawyer, Bryan Freedman, told NBC News that the actor is "absolutely" planning to take legal action against Lively and others. Do you want to feel old? The acclaimed crime thriller often stylized as "Se7en" celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, ringing in 2025 with a re-release in IMAX locations that those who haven't had a chance to enjoy in theaters simply won't want to miss. That milestone also means that those of us of a certain age have spent the better part of three decades reciting one oft-repeated refrain every chance we had: "What's in the box?" If you've never seen the influential David Fincher noir and somehow remain blissfully unaware of what actually goes down in the film's heart-stopping climax, well, this is your cue to leave right now and avoid spoiling one of the biggest filmmaking twists of the 21st century for yourself.

David Fincher, the director of Se7en, has cleared up one of the biggest rumors about the movie’s shocking ending. The 1995 thriller, starring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kevin Spacey, follows two detectives chasing a serial killer who commits murders based on the seven deadly sins.
The ending, where a box is delivered containing something horrifying, left audiences stunned and has been the subject of speculation for years.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fincher addressed the long-standing rumor that a prosthetic head of Paltrow was made for the scene. He dismissed the idea, saying it wasn’t necessary to show the contents of the box:
No, it’s entirely ridiculous. I think we had a seven- or eight-pound shot bag. We had done the research to figure out, if Gwyneth Paltrow’s body mass index was X, what portion of that would be attributable to her head.

Se7en director David Fincher has revealed what was actually in the box when they were filming the ending of the iconic thriller movie. The story of Se7en follows two detectives, David Mills and William Sommerset, who are tracking a serial killer who is targeting people that he believes represent one of the seven deadly sins. The shocking ending of Se7en shocked moviegoers when the film was released in 1995, and has stayed with people ever since. The cast includes Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kevin Spacey.

In memoriam title cards are one of the highest honors a TV or film production can give to a late cast or crew member. Sometimes, the words "in loving memory" pop up at the end of a series or movie based on a true story, making it all the more poignant by quietly confirming the death of one or more subjects. Other times, it's a key member of the creative family that built the story being honored -- a screenwriter, actor, director, producer, author, musician, stunt-person, or any number of other crew members.
Then there are the cases where a movie or show honors someone whose name audiences don't immediately recognize or can't connect to the show in question. Taylor Sheridan's ratings behemoth "Yellowstone" has included several unexpected in memoriam tributes over the years, celebrating the lives of everyone from bit and spur maker Billy Ray Klapper to singer-songwriter John Prine and Wilford Brimley,...

Prime Video's Cross is the latest adaptation of the hit thriller novels, but just how different is the series from the original Morgan Freeman movies? Prime's Cross cast Aldis Hodge as the title character, who is seemingly doomed to chase down endlessly creative serial killers. While the James Patterson books also received a movie adaptation with 2012's Alex Cross (starring Tyler Perry), the Morgan Freeman movies are by far the most famous adaptations.
Freeman fronted both Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider, which adapted the first two Patterson novels. An Alex Cross franchise felt like a natural move for Freeman after Se7en's success, but the reception to Along Came a Spider saw him move on from the character. It's over 20 years since Freeman last played the character and the Cross TV series is a total reinvention of the franchise for a new audience.

The first episode of Cross has already ruled out re-adapting one of the James Patterson books by repeating a cool Reacher trick. The Cross show cast Aldis Hodge in the title role, inheriting the character from Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry. Surprisingly, Prime Video's show isn't adapting any of the novels and instead picks elements from the source material mixed with an original storyline. Even showrunner Ben Watkins confessed to TVLine that this was a "risky" approach, considering how many fans the books have.
Regardless, Cross is currently rated "Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes with a 70% rating, with Hodge being singled out for praise. Another element receiving positive feedback is Ryan Eggold as serial killer Ed Ramsey/The Fanboy, who recreates famous killers using his victims as a "template" before killing them. When David Fincher sat down to helm Seven, he was coming off the bruising experience of his directorial debut, Alien 3. Studio interference had left him frustrated, even disillusioned. “I thought I was done with movies,” Fincher confessed in a recent interview with Los Angeles Times. Yet, the gritty, rain-soaked thriller that became Seven offered him a rare opportunity: creative freedom. What followed was a gamble on casting, a battle for integrity, and the birth of a genre-defining masterpiece.

At the heart of Seven is the compelling dynamic between detectives David Mills (Brad Pitt) and William Somerset (Morgan Freeman). For Fincher, getting the casting right was essential. He knew the film needed contrasting energies to balance its dark narrative. “Brad and Morgan were polar opposites, and that’s exactly what the story needed,” Fincher explained.

His dedication to perfectionism lead to countless takes, sometimes even over 100. Beyond just thrillers, the nine times Academy Award winner has crafted cult classics like 1999 Fight Club that felt more like psychological puzzle than straightforward story. “40 Acres” is a groundbreaking post-apocalyptic movie that breaks the rules of the genre. It takes place in a world that has been destroyed by disaster. The movie takes place 14 years after a terrible fungal pandemic killed off almost all animals. It shows a harsh world where property is worth more than gold, and strength alone isn’t enough to survive.
Hailey Freeman, a former soldier played by the electric Danielle Deadwyler, is central to this intense story. She is in charge of a strong family on a 40-acre farm that has been in her family since the war. Along with her Indigenous partner Galen (Michael Greyeyes) and their children, Hailey has turned their farm into a carefully guarded haven in a world that is about to fall apart.
In his first full-length movie, director R.T. Thorne creates a unique vision far beyond normal post-apocalyptic tropes. This is not just...

Klingons are arguably one of the richly painted alien cultures in Star Trek lore. While much of this has been developed for serious drama throughout various Trek series, Lower Decks has been offering a more humorous look at Klingons for a while. In "A Farewell to Farms," we get to visit Qo'noS and see a comedic take at Klingon rituals that manages to remain faithful and genuine to the Klingon heart.

Morgan Freeman reveals the three reasons he signed on for Lioness season 2, Paramount+s spy thriller series created by Yellowstone's Taylor Sheridan. Denzel Washington is one of our most accomplished actors who has worked alongside other legendary A-listers, but, sadly, we missed out on seeing him reunite with one of them, Morgan Freeman, when he turned down Se7en in the '90s. Denzel Washington has earned his title in Hollywood as one of the best actors of his generation. Over four decades, Washington has shown his incredible range as an actor, and Denzel Washington's upcoming movies will be just as powerful. Still, even he has had some missed opportunities over the years.
A prominent project Washington turned down was David Fincher's 1995 classic thriller Se7en, which followed two detectives hunting a serial killer who commits murders based on the seven deadly sins. Washington ultimately declined because he thought the script was too dark and demonic. Although he later regretted his decision, 1995 was still an eventful year for Washington, with three films released: Crimson Tide,...

Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 is the animated comedy's last chance for its biggest Star Trek: The Next Generation callback. Entering their final season on Paramount+, Star Trek: Lower Decks creator Mike McMahan promises a satisfying ending for the dysfunctionally heroic crew of the USS Cerritos. McMahan and Star Trek: Lower Decks' cast members have also hinted at major Star Trek legacy voice cameos in season 5. Could this mean Star Trek: The Next Generation will cross over into Star Trek: Lower Decks?
One of the most satisfying aspects of Star Trek: Lower Decks is that it continues the beloved 24th-century era of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Lights, camera, action – Gunner certainly delivers on pulse-pounding fight sequences and gripping chase scenes. At the helm is director Dimitri Logothetis, bringing his vision for a modern military action flick to life. He assembles an all-star cast led by Luke Hemsworth in the role of Lee Gunner, a special forces soldier driven to save his sons by any means necessary.
When Lee takes his boys camping, their retreat quickly turns risky upon stumbling on a major drug ring in the woods. As their uncle perishes in an explosion and the boys get snatched, it’s up to Lee to wage an one-man war to bring them home safe. We see him systematically combating the traffickers with tactical precision. Hemsworth inhabits the intense role of the battle-hardened hero perfectly.
Along the way he butts heads with the villainous Dobbs Ryker, the son of the imprisoned crime lord played chillingly by Morgan Freeman.

However, his Se7en co-star Morgan Freeman has a film picked out that he cannot stop singing praises of and it is a rather underrated one – The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Wanted 2 was planned with new characters and a different story, but development stalled despite initial interest and ideas. James McAvoy is open to reprising his role in Wanted 2, but the sequel has not materialized due to development issues. The original Wanted film, based on Mark Millar's comic series, left room for a sequel that never came to fruition, despite financial success.
For more reasons than one, Wanted 2 has still not happened even though the first film was a box office hit. Released in 2008, the Wanted movie was adapted from the Mark Millar comic series of the same name. The film followed a sheepish office worker who learns his father was part of a secret group of assassins known as The Fraternity and is recruited as their newest member. Directed by Timur Bekmambetov and starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman, Wanted is a pulse-pounding action film.

While Clint Eastwood has both directed and starred in the first two films, he only served as the director of Invictus.

Morgan Freeman once quoted the nautical saying “long foretold, long last; short notice, soon past” to describe his acting career. He meant that it took him along time to achieve success in the acting profession but he hoped his long struggle would mean his career would last and not prove to be just a flash in the pan. His career has lasted and Freeman has had a nearly 30-year film career in major movies.
Freeman’s career started on the New York stage in the musical theater when he took over the role of Rudy the Maître d’ of the restaurant where the famous title number is performed. He was part of the groundbreaking moment when Pearl Bailey led an all-black cast into the production which had been running for years with white performers.
In the 1970s Freeman appeared for seven years and 680 episodes of the children’s television series “The Electric Company.

Morgan Freeman did not reach the heights in Hollywood by always playing Mr. Nice Guy. His ruthless decision to fire a famous rapper from one of his movies shows the actor’s commitment to his craft. In 2013, Freeman joined forces with Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, and Kevin Kline to star in the comedy film Last Vegas. The film was supposed to have rapper T.I. in a supporting role in the film.
