Joshua Chase(I)
- Sound Department
- Music Department
- Composer
Born in Sandusky, Ohio, Joshua grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania. He received his B.F.A. from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) School of Filmmaking with a concentration in Editing and Sound. Throughout those college years, he became the go-to guy for many sound-intensive peer projects.
After graduation, Josh served as a messenger for Sound One Corporation in NYC, where he was fortunate to experience an overview of the professional sound world and prepare himself for a move to Los Angeles. There, he began his career in earnest.
Early work included effects editing on animated TV, such as Jackie Chan Adventures. Then, Joshua connected with a group of music editors for reality television and added the needed specialized skills to his toolbox. In music editing, he was able to combine his music-producing and bass-playing experience with his knowledge of sound editing.
During these years, Josh became an active member of the Motion Picture Editors Guild and the Television Academy.
Joshua returned to effects editing and continued to grow and thrive in his career. He's served as a member of the editorial staff at boutique sound house RH Factor as well as stints at Universal Studios, Warner Bros., and other facilities. He boasts an extensive sound editing and sound designing repertoire spanning an array of genres and formats, from network sitcoms to one-hour dramas to successful motion pictures, indie projects, and short films.
During his years with RH Factor, Josh found mentorship and support as he further expanded his skill set to include re-recording mixing and preparing mixes for foreign release. It was there he also began co-supervising sound on several shows.
Joshua enjoys the collaborative nature of filmmaking, and he particularly loves working with friends and fellow alumni. For example, teaming up with UNCSA grad, Will Files, to create the sound design for Take Shelter - directed by another fellow alumnus, Jeff Nichols - was a rewarding and memorable experience. Another collaborative career highlight was an Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series for Marvel's Daredevil.
Josh resides in Monrovia, CA - one of the many parts of the vast Los Angeles area - with his wife and fellow UNCSA alum, actor and writer, Elizabeth Carlton Chase, and their amazing Cirneco dell'Etna dogs.
