“Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,” the stridently descriptive and wordy title for Joe Berlinger’s narrative feature about Ted Bundy, could have been more conveniently used to refer to Lars von Trier’s “The House That Jack Built.” That ghastly picture from the Danish auteur revels in the grotesque and sadistic exploits of a serial murderer, as the monster intellectualizes his crimes and is outspoken about his desire to kill.

“Extremely Wicked” takes a completely opposite approach to engaging with the actions of its own hazardous charmer. Working from Michael Werwie’s Blacklist script, Berlinger — whose career in documentary has concentrated on the perpetrators and victims of heinous crimes — adamantly refrains from displaying explicit physical violence, opting instead to dwell on the efficacy of Bundy’s manipulation tactics. Bleecker Street has released the first trailer for the remake of 1973’s Papillon starring Charlie Hunnam and Bohemian Rhapsody’s Rami Malek.

Based on a true story of a French convict Henri Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), nicknamed “Papillon”, who was imprisoned in 1933 and escaped in 1941 with the help of another convict, counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek). The film is directed by Michael Noer, the film also stars Roland Møller as Celier, Tommy Flanagan as Masked Breton, Eve Hewson as Nenette and Michael Socha as Julot.

Before Rami Malek enters Oscar season with his upcoming performance as Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” he’s starring opposite Charlie Hunnam in a new adaptation of “Papillon.” The movie, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, is based on Henri Charrière’s autobiographies “Papillon” and “Banco,” plus the famous 1973 film of the same name starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman.

“Papillon” stars Hunnam in the title role of Henri “Papillon” Charrière, who is sent to a penal colony on Devil’s Island after being framed for murder. Charrière forms an alliance with a convicted counterfeiter named Louis Dega (Malek), who agrees to finance the innocent man’s escape from the colony. Roland Møller, Tommy Flanagan, and Eve Hewson co-star.

Hunnam and Malek both rose to stardom as the stars of cable dramas “Sons of Anarchy” and “Mr. Robot,” respectively, the latter winning Malek a best actor Emmy trophy.

For Charlie Hunnam, it’s the little things that make for a happy relationship.

At the Toronto International Film Festival, where his new film Papillon is having its world premiere, the Sons of Anarchy star, 37, opened up about how he and his longterm girlfriend Morgana McNelis, 34, have kept their love strong for over a decade.

Sons Of Anarchy actor Tommy Flanagan is reuniting with his co-star Charlie Hunnam in the upcoming Michael Noer-directed remake Papillon, based on the classic 1973 film that starred Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen. Written by Aaron Guzikowski, the pic, which also stars Rami Malek, is a modern retelling of the original, which was based on the memoirs of convicted felon and fugitive Henri Charriere. Mr Robot star Rami Malek is in talks to star with Charlie Hunnam for the upcoming Papillon remake.

The 1973 classic film Papillon starred Steve McQueen in the title role of Henri Charrière, a self-proclaimed innocent man who is sentenced to Devil’s Island in French Guiana for murder but cannot stay caged. He was joined by Dustin Hoffman as the quirky counterfeiter Louis Degas, the man who finances Papillon’s escape attempts. Here's the trailer for the original film...

Malek will take on the role of Degas, a very intelligent man who seems to be known in all the wrong places. There's no word yet on whether Malek will wear the signature prescription glasses that Hoffman fastened around his ears.
