Writing TV is a collaborative process, which often means that seeing a writer's credit on top of a TV episode isn't as strong an indicator of their writing style as you'd think. They may have written most of the script, sure, but a lot of what happens is often decided by the showrunner and the other staff writers. Throw in the general chaos that comes with trying to make a career in Hollywood, and the result is you sometimes get writers who veer off in a surprisingly different direction after a major project is finished.
For example: Alec Berg, David Mandel, and Jeff Schaffer were all writers for the hit sitcom "Seinfeld," which went on for nine seasons and became one of the most critically acclaimed and popular shows of all time. When the series wrapped up in 1998, did these writers continue writing for Emmy-nominated, boundary-pushing sitcoms? Well, sort of,...

Shannen Doherty's best movies and TV shows showed the great range of the actress, as she became a massive television star in three different decades while also turning in some quality film roles along the way. Doherty started her career as a child actor, getting early roles in shows like Father Murphy and Voyagers before she got her first major TV role in Little House on the Prairie. After making her name in that show as a pre-teen, she also voiced a role in The Secret of Nimh before her career skyrocketed.
Most fans know Doherty from her television career. As a teen, she appeared in Our House, where she garnered award recognition, before she took on a starring role in one of the most popular television shows of the 1990s, Beverly Hills, 90210, as Brenda Walsh. After the success of Ron Howard's "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (a hit so big even the 2018 animated remake broke box office records), it was a no-brainer for Hollywood to look to other Dr. Seuss books for inspiration for its next success. DreamWorks quickly set its sights on "The Cat in the Hat" and greenlit a live-action adaptation with a budget over $100 million, tapping another Canadian-born comedic A-lister to star in the film -- in this case, Mike Myers, an actor who was at the peak of his career, starring in both the "Austin Powers" trilogy And "Shrek" at the same time. The 2003 film also starred Spencer Breslin and Dakota Fanning, the former a popular actor with kids at the time thanks to "The Santa Clause 2" and the latter a phenomenal young actor too good for this disappointing project.

When the live-action adaptation of ‘The Cat in the Hat’ premiered in November 2003, it primarily targeted late Millennials and early Gen Z viewers. As a young audience, they were mostly oblivious to the film’s many adult jokes. Instead, they delighted in the memorable musical numbers, the vibrant color palette of every scene, and the playful comedy. Now, 21 years later, that same audience has grown up and often remembers the movie as either a comical fever dream or a childhood nightmare. From the many reviews I've read about this movie, it's clear that it didn't live up to many people's expectations upon release. Movie critics hoped for something that truly depicted the book—something more wholesome, rather than an oversized cat making adult jokes every few minutes. One critic remarked, “The Cat in the Hat comes scarily close to being the most unendurable Hollywood creation of the last dozen years.

Alec Baldwin shines as a villain in The Cat in the Hat, displaying his talent for unbridled arrogance and comedic sneezes. Despite its poor reception, the film has gained a cult following, with audiences embracing its wacky slapstick world. Mike Myers' mischievous portrayal of the Cat adds an unforgettable element to the film, making it worth watching on Netflix.
Whilst Alec Baldwin will not be reprising his role as Adam Maitland in the upcoming Beetlejuice, audiences are able to catch him in an equally bizarre fantasy world, in The Cat in the Hat, now streaming on Netflix. The 66-year-old actor is best known for his roles on 30 Rock, the Mission Impossible franchise, and his voice as the eponymous Boss Baby. Beyond this, however, Baldwins career has taken him to some even stranger places.
In 2003, Baldwin starred in The Cat in the Hat, as Larry Quinn, the villainous next-door neighbor of the Waldron children.

Plot: Russell Hatch an Interpol operative who takes on the role of father figure to Jayden, the son of an informant killed in a routine raid gone wrong.
Review: It’s nothing new for an action star of the past to show up in these lower-budget films. Geezer Teasers have often been a great way for action stars to cash a quick paycheck. But they tend to amount to nothing more than a bit part, while some younger actor does the majority of the action. So I was pleasantly surprised to see Jean-Claude Van Damme not only take center stage but appear in nearly every frame of Darkness of Man. Unlike some of his contemporaries, he’s not taking the easy way out and I respect him for it.

Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired director James Cullen Bressack’s well-received horror-comedy, “Murder, Anyone?” based on the play of the same name by Bressack’s father, Emmy-award winner Gordon Bressack.
The film will be released in early 2023.
“Murder, Anyone?” explores the concept of manifestation, and stars Kristos Andrews (“The Bay”), Galadriel Stineman (“The Middle”), Maurice Lamarche (“Pinky and the Brain”), Spencer Breslin, and Oscar nominee Sally Kirkland.
The story follows playwrights George and Charlie, tasked with the challenge of creating the next “avant-garde, surrealistic, mind-bending neo-noire thriller.” Unfortunately, as they write, the story comes to life in real time — but their own emotions and arguments also begin to manifest on film, creating sharp twists and turns and filling their life with hilarity — and chaos.

It’s not quite Christmastime yet, but Santa Claus is coming to town — or at least, Disney+ — this week. Tim Allen is suiting up once more in “The Santa Clauses,” and he’s flanked by some beloved characters from the original films. That said, Allen admits you won’t see everyone you know.
In the new series, the first two episodes of which premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, we find Santa Claus, a.k.a. Scott Calvin, on the brink of turning 65. Realizing he can’t be Santa forever, he decides it’s time to retire, and give his kids a life in the real world. Elizabeth Mitchell returns as Mrs. Claus for the series, after first appearing in “The Santa Clause 2.”
But, it seems Mitchell is the only sequel character that will be in the series — at least for now.

Plot: Scott Calvin is back! After being Santa Claus for nearly thirty years, he’s as jolly as ever. But as Christmas declines in popularity, so does his Santa magic. Scott struggles to keep up with the demands of the job, as well as being there for his family. Upon discovering there is a way to retire from his post, Scott considers stepping down as Santa Claus and finding a worthy successor so that he can become a better father and husband.
Review: Early in the first episode of The Santa Clauses, Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) meets a character from the original movie and finds her grown up. When he says it is hard to believe that it has been twenty-eight years since he became Santa, it was a moment that made me realize how long it has been since the 1994 premiere of The Santa Clause. When reviving the Santa Clause franchise by way of Disney+, the Powers That Be knew they’d have to explain why a certain fan-favorite elf had been kept on the shelf for the last 20 years.
We’re talking, of course, about Bernard, a role originated by David Krumholtz in 1994’s The Santa Clause, opposite Tim Allen. Krumholtz reprised Bernard in the 2002 sequel The Santa Clause 2, at which point Bernard had taken under his wing a protégé named Curtis (played by Spencer Breslin).

What’s all this boo-hooin’ about? David Krumholtz coming back as Bernard the Elf in Disney+’s upcoming “The Santa Clauses” limited series!
Krumholtz joins his fellow movie alums Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell in the series, who are returning as Scott Calvin/Santa Claus and Carol Newman/Mrs. Claus respectively. Of course, it’s been several years since we’ve seen Bernard the Elf, so whether he’s still working in Santa’s workshop remains to be seen. Details on Bernard’s storyline are not yet known.
Bernard has become a fan favorite over the years, despite his gruffness. And that’s something that Krumholtz has always appreciated. In a 2019 interview, the actor noted that “It means the world to me. I appreciate any kind of reaction [to] anything I do. You know, really! You’re supposed to make people feel things, whatever those things are.”

In director James Cullen Bressack’s upcoming film, “Murder, Anyone?”, two playwrights named George and Charlie, are tasked with the challenge of creating the next “avant-garde, surrealistic, mind-bending neo-noire thriller.”
Unfortunately, as they write, the story comes to life in real time. However, their own emotions and arguments also begin to manifest on film, creating sharp twists and turns and filling their life with hilarity — and chaos. And below, you can get a hint of what that’s like courtesy of some exclusive-to-TheWrap images.
The comedic play-within-a-play-within-a-movie, which per Bressack contemplates “the complexities of language, art, theater, film and more” is also especially personal for him. It’s based on the play written by his father, Emmy award-winning “Pinky and the Brain” writer Gordon Bressack, who died in 2019.
“I self financed and made the film in honor of my father’s memory so his words could live on,” Bressack said.

James Cullen Bressack (“Fortress”) is adapting the play “Murder, Anyone?” into a feature film, Variety can exclusively reveal.
“Muder, Anyone?” was originally written by Bressack’s father, Emmy Award-winning “Pinky and the Brain” writer Gordon Bressack. The play first premiered at the White Fire Theatre in Los Angeles in 2017.
Gordon Bressack, who worked on dozens of beloved animated shows including “Animaniacs” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” died in 2019.
Now his son will direct and produce a feature film adaptation, in part to “bring attention to his work,” Bressack tells Variety.
Spencer Breslin (“The Happening”) and Kristos Andrews (“The Bay”) are set to star in the film, a faithful adaptation of Bressack Sr.’s show about two playwrights tasked with creating a new “avant-garde, surrealistic, mind-bending neo-noire thriller” who find their story coming to life as they write.
Breslin and Andrews are joined by Galadriel Stineman (“The Is Us”), Maurice Lamarche (“Animaniacs”), Charles M.

When the pandemic hit it was Steven Soderberg’s Contagion rather than M Night Shyamalan’s The Happening that people wanted to revisit. Perhaps Mark Wahlberg running away from the wind wasn’t the vibe people were looking for. Revisiting this much maligned but secretly wonderful curio in light of where we are in the world now, though, throws up some interesting parallels. The big difference between the way the characters in The Happening dealt with their pandemic and what’s going on in the world now is lockdown. What the characters battling the airborne infection in The Happening should have done is self isolate….
M Night Shyamalan’s eco-horror was released in 2008 after his declining run of hits, which began with The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs (pretty well liked), The Village (opinion is divided) and The Lady in the Water (bad).

Hollywood is waking up today to the news that Jerry Maguire star Kelly Preston has died at the age of 57 after a long battle with breast cancer.
Preston’s husband John Travolta made the announcement and paid tribute on Instagram, writing that his wife had “fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”
Those chiming in with tributes on social media included Josh Gad, Russell Crowe, Chloe Bennet, and Spencer Breslin, who played her on-screen son in The Cat in the Hat, plus many more. This list is being updated.
I’m in absolute shock. What a beautiful and amazing actress and person. So sad to hear of her passing at such a young age. My heart goes out to John Travolta and the entire family. What a loss.

A while back, I had a fascinating chat with writer/director Adam Egypt Mortimer about a great comic book called Ballistic. Over the course of said interview, he revealed that his livelihood was in film and horror movies were his wheelhouse. So when Some Kind Of Hate showed up at my door, I could not resist picking his brain on its portrayal of teenage stereotypes, social issues, and doom metal, which in this case are certainly a potent combination. [Note: May contain minor spoilers.]

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Rlj Entertainment. **there are some spoilers in this review. Director: Adam Egypt Mortimer. Writers: Brian DeLeeuw and Adam Egypt Mortimer. Cast: Maestro Harrell, Grace Phipps, Spencer Breslin, Sierra McCormick and Lexi Atkins. Some Kind of Hate is an upcoming horror release. To be distributed by Rlj Entertainment, the film had its World Premiere at the Stanley Film Festival, this year. Very intense in nature, the film's story revolves around bullying and a broken protagonist. He summons a demon for protection, dumbfoundedly. From here, the film turns into a slasher feature and gore aspects are a wrist-slashing spectacle. However, a few questions remain, including whether the villain was dispatched by herself or by another. Did she cut her own throat? The supernatural elements are prominent. And, Some Kind of Hate is a satisfying revenge story. Lincoln (Ronen Rubinstein) comes from a broken home.
