The formidable Penelope Spheeris penetrates L.A.'s punk and glam rock scenes, connecting with surly malcontents that would greet a normal docu with flipped fingers and snarled four-letter words. The result is much more than a collection of rare music performances. Things are as loud, as profane and as twisted as ever. Oy vey you guys. There was so much threatening and blood in the penultimate episode of this season that I wouldn’t have been surprised if Bloody Face jumped out from behind my door and chased me around my apartment while I was watching it (but Dylan McDermott is more than welcome to chase me around my apartment anytime). For all the whackadoodle craziness of this episode, I felt unmoved. The last few episodes have made clear that all the characters we’ve formed attachments with are on the literal chopping block and this episode was no exception.
We start with a very brief cold open of Kit standing over a body with an axe. It’s way too quick, so of course there’s something else going on in this scene. Maybe they’re staging a Lizzy Borden inspired murder mystery and Kit’s wig fell off. We jump...

Hello, Zoners!
I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to another week of wonderfulness. I had everything for this post written and ready to go, but with shock and surprise, only moments ago I scrapped my original greeting. For right now, late on Sunday, I am in front of my TV set, watching President Obama, and trying to absorb the news that nearly 10 years after the attacks on the World Trade Center, bin Laden is dead. As a New Yorker, this naturally resonates profoundly with me. I sit here, remembering that day in September, which was so beautiful when it began, and so shattered.
I feel I know how Jon will handle this; I wonder what Stephen will do. Jon can be sincere, emotional, and himself. Stephen’s character complicates things, but I have complete faith that he is up to the task.

Lizzie Borden took an axe. And gave her mother forty whacks. When she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one. One of America’s favorite kiddie rhymes based off of the infamous New England murders in the early 1890s, will soon be a miniseries for HBO.
Deadline is reporting Bryce Kass is writing the script and yummy Chloe Sevigny (American Psycho and HBO’s Big Love) will star as Lizzy Borden.

[1]Late last year, we reported [2] that adult film production company Exquisite Films was working on a three-hour porn version of Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, to be titled Reservoir Dogs XXX. Well, now the trailer's here, and other than the fact that Steve Buscemi, etc. have now been replaced by famous porn actresses, it looks like a surprisingly careful recreation of the original. Check out the Nsfw (due to bad language, not nudity or violence) trailer after the jump. Bleeding Cool [3] sent Jeffrey Laub, a filmmaker who's taught a college course on Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, to the check out the set of Reservoir Dogs XXX. According to his report, Reservoir Dogs XXX hews very closely to the source material: When I visited the set of Reservoir Dogs XXX, I was allowed to see a copy of the script. After flipping through several pages, I realized that I was holding a...

Porn parodies/remakes of well loved properties are all the rage right now. This year we’ve seen XXX rated versions of Batman & Superman with more apparently on the way. The latest to be announced is a 3 hour porn version of Quentin Tarantino’s early 90′s Sundance hit Reservoir Dogs which no, won’t just be a gay orgy (there’s famously no notable female characters in Tarantino’s film) as the colourful characters have been re-imagined as Ms. Pink, Ms. Orange and Nice Girl Eddie, etc.
The project comes from Exquisite Films, the same ‘high-end adult studio’ that just wrapped filming on a Justice League porno and will be a “upscale, mature parody of Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic” and not just sex scene followed by sex scene (which it of course will be). The large running time is to faithfully accommodate the heavy-dialogue and I presume the heist plot/rat-in-the-house concept remains?...

"Dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick." "How many dicks is that?" "A lot." Quentin Tarantino pretty much embedded the idea of a porn version of Reservoir Dogs in the dialog for the film's talky opening sequence [1]. And while the idea of porn parodies of popular films is all but comically bankrupt, I'll admit there's some brief amusement value in thinking about the porn version of, for instance, the sequence where Mr. Orange is bleeding like a pig all over the back seat of Mr. White's car. (Or did Catherine Breillat already do that in Anatomy of Hell?) Still: a porn Reservoir Dogs? Yawn. But then this became post-worthy when I saw that the running time of the film is planned for three hours. I guess that's what happens when you try to smash together a 99-minute dialogue-heavy story and a full-length porn film. If you want the dirty details,...

The Venture Bros. isn't your typical TV show. It's not your typical action comedy, cartoon or even absurdist satire. And exactly as "Every Which Way But Zeus" leaves us in stunned silence, so too do the questions posed between writers Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick remain unanswered.
Much as iPod selections or a fantasy fist fight between Anne Frank and Lizzy Borden become subplots within the context of an entire episode, monumental revelations and tense plot points can be addressed without a second thought. Last week's turn of Phantom Limb's return and Professor Impossible's conversion fit the mold of The Venture Bros' usual slow boil and yet we've already seen the two return this week by largely uneventful means.
We never know what to expect on this show because Doc and Jackson have no expectations themselves. Listen to the two joke about their precarious careers or the inability to...

I'm not sure how the heavy metal and horror movie connection started but it's a match made in hell. The two go together like chocolate and peanut butter. It's a natural pairing. Alice Cooper had been combining Grand Guignol stage theatrics with live music since the 70's. Blue Oyster Cult wound horror and science fictions themes into their lyrics. Black Sabbath took their name from a Mario Bava movie yet the movies and the music maintained a safe distance from one another until heavy metal became the undisputed king of album sales in the mid to late 80's. The two seemed to officially become bed mates in 1986 with Friday the 13th Part 6 when the very same and this time very crazy Alice Cooper provided the synth happy track "He's back! (The Man Behind The Mask)" to the soundtrack. Before you knew it, Dokken was writing the theme song to my...

Every week, we find a new Worst Film Ever and deliver it to you as a public service. These films should be avoided at all costs, but if you absolutely have to see them, strap on your rosary beads and prepare to lose your faith in film! This week’s Worst Movie Ever is: Terror Toons (2002) Synopsis: Candy, a ridiculously well endowed teen (that means she has big boobs) receives a mysterious package in the mail from none other than the Devil, which she confuses with, I guess, her Netflix subscription. This buxom peroxide blonde pops in the DVD to watch the adventures of Dr. Carnage (a doctor) and Max Assassin (a gorilla). Soon, the toons escape their poorly drawn world and turn into gigantic men in poorly made suits who go about slaughtering all those in the house. Oh did I forgot to mention that Candy's sister Cindy is hosting a lame-ass party? Because...
