Barry Beckett studied at the fledgling film school at the London College of Printing with the former CBS producer Bob Morgan, after gaining a degree in Graphic Design and Photography. With fellow student Patrick Cassavetti acting as director, he filmed and edited the wrestling documentary, "Ladies and Gentlemen and Wrestlers" in 1973.
From 1974-76, he worked for Producer, Leon Clore at Film Contracts in London, in the editing department with Barney Greenwood for Karell Reisz, Stephen Frears, Larry Pizer, Anthony Simmons.
From 1976-1978, he was editing and sound editor for Crossroads of Civilization, for producer David Frost and Director Tony Mayer. South Bank Show, film editor for Melvin Bragg, cutting films on Harold Pinter, David Hockney, Ken Russel.
