Phil Collins’ health has become a subject of concern for fans in recent years.
That’s because of a 2007 spinal injury that left him with limited mobility.
Based on his recent appearances, Collins is still able to walk with the assistance of a cane. But sources close to the rock legend say that he’s no longer able to play the drums.

Phil Collins Dodges Questions About His Health
Collins himself has been quiet on the topic of his condition.
When concerns are raised, he tends to dismiss them with a joke. In 2022, for example, Collins appeared alongside his Genesis bandmates for a concert that was billed as the band’s “last show ever.”

“Genres are a funny little concept, aren’t they?” says Linda Martell, a country music pioneer, in the intro to Beyoncé’s “Spaghettii.” “In theory, they have a simple definition that’s easy to understand, but in practice, well, some may feel confined.” Those two sentences perfectly sum up how Beyoncé has subverted expectations in recent years by spreading her wings beyond pop, hip-hop, and R&b to infuse rock, house, and now country music into her own unique style that ultimately really is just “Beyoncé.”

Forbes recently released their list of the Top 10 highest-earning entertainers from the past year and, while most of the musical acts listed aren’t surprising, rock band Genesis shocked many by topping the list and earning the most money in 2022.
Directors, writers, and producers like Tyler Perry, Brad Pitt, and James Cameron made millions last year
Forbes’ list is made up of actors, writers, singers, and other entertainment industry heavyweights. Tyler Perry took the #3 spot, thanks to his work as a writer, director, and producer. Perry is also the only billionaire to make the list.
Shows like South Park and The Simpsons are still making major money, too. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park and The Book of Mormon, pulled in $160 million, while The Simpsons’ creators James L. Brooks and Matt Groening made $105 million.

A package of Genesis, Phil Collins and some Mike + the Mechanics music assets have sold to Concord, the company told the Wall Street Journal on Thursday. Billboard originally reported Wednesday that a deal was nearly done, but did not know the identity of the buyer. An official announcement is still forthcoming.
In January, Billboard reported that a package of Collins’ rights had been shopped for upward of 200 million, according to sources. That package, sources says, morphed into a bigger deal that also includes all of the publishing for Genesis and possibly even Mike + the Mechanics, as well as their master recordings rights. Specifically, sources say the deal encompassed the artist’s share of the master recordings and publishing. In the case of Collins, that means a combination of artist royalties for masters owned by Atlantic and his ownership stake in other Collins solo albums on the label.

Phil Collins and Genesis have reached a deal with Concord to sell their publishing and master recordings for a figure north of 300 million, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
The deal includes songs that Collins recorded in his solo career and the music he made in Genesis along with keyboardist Tony Banks and guitarist Mike Rutherford. It also includes solo recordings from Rutherford and Banks but nothing from Peter Gabriel’s time in Genesis or his solo career.

Genesis won’t turn it on again, staging what was billed as its final concert Saturday night at London’s 02 arena.
Phil Collins, the group’s former drummer, was joined by keyboardist Tony Banks and guitarist Mike Rutherford. Collins, age 71 and increasingly frail with back and hip issues, sat center stage throughout. He was in good humor, though, reportedly quipping at one point that he’ll now need to find a real job after the band’s demise.
Genesis’ “The Last Domino? Tour” came after a 14-year live performance hiatus. It was also postponed during the pandemic. The group’s final tour included concerts in the U.K. last September and in North America last fall, concluding with another 14 concerts in Europe and the U.K.
The trio were joined on the tour by Collins’ son, Nic, who also filled in for his father behind the kit during his recent solo tours.

Genesis formed in early 1967 when two rival bands at the prestigious Charterhouse boarding school in southeast England came together as one. They ended Saturday night at London’s O2 Arena at the final date of the group’s Last Domino reunion tour.

Genesis kicked off the U.S. leg of their Last Domino? tour on Monday night at Chicago’s United Center. The setlist was largely identical to the one they played in England earlier this year, but they did drop fan-favorite “Duchess” in favor of their 1980 hit “Misunderstanding.”

Fifty years ago this week, a new record arrived in shops called Nursery Cryme by the largely unknown British band Genesis. The cover showed a Victorian-era schoolgirl wielding a croquet mallet in a vast field full of disembodied heads. The songs inside were just as bizarre, including “The Fountain of Salmacis” and “The Return of the Giant Hogweed.” The former is a detailed telling of the ancient Greek myth of Hermaphroditus, while the latter is about an obscure, venomous plant that wreaks havoc in England when brought over from Russia.

This week, Genesis released new photos of rehearsals for their upcoming Last Domino? reunion tour. They show Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford at a practice facility somewhere in Europe. Collins is seated with a cane resting on a music stand, but he’s near a tiny drum kit, meaning it’s possible he’ll attempt to play in a very limited capacity despite his physical issues. But the bulk of the drumming will be handled by his son Nic.

When Genesis announced plans for their Last Domino? reunion tour earlier this year, many old-school fans were disappointed to learn that original frontman and Peter Gabriel and prog-era guitarist Steve Hackett weren’t going to be involved. Instead, it was essentially a reformation of the 1978 to 1992 lineup of Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and Daryl Stuermer — with Phil’s teenage son Nic taking the place of Chester Thompson behind the drum kit.

Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett was midway through an American tour that featured a complete performance of the band’s 1973 landmark LP Selling England by the Pound when the coronavirus hit.
It forced him to postpone many of the shows until 2021, but he hasn’t let it stop him from playing for fans. He’s posted a series of acoustic guitar performances on YouTube in recent days that he filmed at his house, including the 1972 Genesis instrumental “Horizons” and the extended intro to the band’s 1976 song “Blood on the Rooftops.

The Phil Collins–led incarnation of Genesis announced a reunion tour this morning. So far it’s just 10 arena dates in the United Kingdom and Ireland, but that’s almost certainly merely the first leg. The band hasn’t toured in any capacity since 2007 and can easily fill stadiums and arenas all across globe. Nothing is certain, but 2021 will probably be a very good year for Genesis fans.
The lineup this time is the 1978–1993 and 2007 incarnation of the band, minus touring drummer Chester Thompson. In his place is Phil’s teenage son Nic.

Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks attended a Knicks-Lakers game together at Madison Square Garden last week, giving the rumors of Genesis contemplating a reunion tour a tiny shred of credibility. Skidoo
Written by Doran William Cannon
Directed by Otto Preminger
USA, 1968
Of the nearly 70 films I’ve written about in this column, I would whole-heartedly recommend each without reservation, to not only watch, but to spend good money on. With 1968′s Skidoo, out now on a new Olive Films Blu-ray, I’m breaking that tradition. I wouldn’t suggest anyone purchase this film, though everyone should see it. This is a most unusual, absolutely indefinable, wholly unique motion picture.
I initially viewed Skidoo on the sole basis of its starring Alexandra Hay, who I’ve been smitten with since first seeing her in Jacques Demy’s Model Shop, released the following year. On this point, Skidoo succeeds. Hay is a delightful beauty, charming in a way that is very much of the era. Admittedly unfamiliar with her biography, I can’t imagine why she didn’t have more of a career.

Genesis have never been one of the coolest bands to admit to being a fan of, despite huge popularity and enduring albums.
From their super progressive rock era of Peter Gabriel, to their stadium rock chartbuster period of Phil Collins, Genesis are definitely one of the UK's biggest rock bands with a rather unique story.
The classic early 1970s lineup of Gabriel, Collins, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Steve Hackett have now reunited for a special documentary, discussing their path from the late 1960s to now. The film also contains remastered concert footage from throughout their career.
Before it is screened on BBC Two in the autumn, here are just eight things we learnt from watching the upcoming film.
1. Move over Lady Gaga, Peter Gabriel has done it already
Footage from Genesis's gigs in the early to mid-1970s reminds casual fans just how outlandish some of Gabriel's attire was at times.

The latest vintage Paramount title announced for release on DVD by Olive Films is the psychedelic 1968 comedy movie Skidoo, which will be available on July 19.
Groucho Marx takes a toke as "God" in the 1968 cult favorite Skidoo.
Remastered in high definition from a 35mm archive print and directed by Otto Preminger (Hurry Sundown), the film stars Jackie Gleason (The Hustler) as Tough Tony Banks, a retired gangster who reluctantly comes out of retirement to silence his old friend and squealer (Mickey Rooney, The Fox and The Hound). On the home front, Tony’s suburban haven comes crashing down when his daughter (Alexandra Hay, How Sweet It Is!) takes up with a hippie (John Phillip Law, Hurry Sundown) and his wife (Carol Channing, Thoroughly Modern Millie) gives them permission to move into their house with their hippy friends.

The lore on Skidoo has it that Preminger was experimenting with LSD in the mid-1960s,...

Rocker Phil Collins has to tape drumsticks to his hands when he's on stage or in the studio - because nerve damage in his hands means he can no longer grip them. The Genesis' star, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with his bandmates in early March, had to stop playing altogether in 2009 because of pain to his spinal cord.
He revealed, "My vertebrae has been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in. It comes from years of playing. I can't even hold the sticks properly without it being painful." But now he's found a way of being able to pound the drums again.
He tells RollingStone, "The first time I picked up the drumsticks after my neck surgery, they flew across the room because I couldn't grip them. When I play, I've had to tape the sticks to my hand. It's like wearing a condom.

New York — It opened with a Phish show, nearly exploded into a (very well-heeled) proto-punk riot, got giddy on a fix of sunshiny Swedish pop, and finally wrapped up with a '50's-tinged tribute. It was the 25th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, back in NYC after a one-year sojourn in Cleveland (where the titular hall actually exists). And while it may have been lacking the star power of previous years' ceremonies — Eminem and Metallica in 2009, Madonna and Justin Timberlake in '08 — it certainly showcased the breadth and depth of this thing we call rock music.

New York – When Genesis gets inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month, founding member Peter Gabriel won't be there. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame president Joel Peresman said in a statement Thursday that Gabriel says he has a scheduling conflict with his tour that begins in Europe. Along with Gabriel, the band's original lineup included Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett. Phil Collins joined the band later and replaced Gabriel as lead vocalist in 1976. Genesis was inspirational in the progressive rock movement. Gabriel's vision helped define the genre's theatrical approach to...

Peter Gabriel has stunned the music world by announcing he won't be joining his former Genesis bandmates onstage for the group's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in March. In fact, the "Sledgehammer" hitmaker isn't sure he'll even attend the ceremony in New York.
Fans were hoping the induction would lead to a reunion for the band's original line-up, but Gabriel insists he has no plans of teaming up with Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, who reformed as Genesis in 2008 for a world tour.
Gabriel tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I'm definitely not going to sing. I learned at our last reunion (in 1982) that you can't just get up there. You have to rehearse." And his upcoming European tour plans might rule out an appearance: "I'm trying to find a way to do it... If I can work it out, I'll go."

Genesis is something of an ugly duckling to rock 'n' roll's more well-regarded swans. It's the sort of band that some reflexively sneer at, while others feel the need to defensively explain their appreciation. I'm squarely in the second camp. I wasn't old enough (or British enough) to be around when they first broke, so my introduction was through my mom's well-worn copy of their live album Seconds Out (which is, incidentally, one of the finest live recordings just about ever). I was utterly awestruck when those first notes from Tony Banks' Moog hit my tender ears. Their music was engaging on just about every possible level, notably the technical, the melodic and the cerebral.
