Armitage had an extensive stage resume. He worked as an actor, stage
manager, general manager and member of the production crew and/or staff
on 20 Broadway productions from 1925-1955 (largely retiring from acting
in 1938), including the hits "Skylark" (1939), "Soldier's Wife" (1944),
The Iceman Cometh" (1946) and "Stalag 17" (1951).
