Plot: Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent is a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low level FBI Agent , Peter Sutherland, whose efforts to save The President in Season 1 earn him an opportunity to become a Night Agent in Season 2. But working in the secretive organization of Night Action will propel Peter into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.
Review: I was not kind to Netflix’s first season of The Night Agent. Despite the chemistry between stars Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan, I found the espionage series dull and not as good as the cast deserved. Hailing from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, The Night Agent became an immediate hit with Netflix viewers and earned a second season pick-up. Along the way, the series was renewed for a third season well before the second hit the streaming service. With...

Monk has seen many celebrity guest stars over the years, not the least of which being Tim Curry in the role of Dale J. “the Whale” Biederbeck III, an 800-lb. corrupt businessman and longtime mortal enemy of Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub). The Monk guest star was one of three actors to take on this distinctive role. Although the character only appears three times, Dale the Whale was noticeably recast for each appearance, a choice which may ultimately have harmed the Monk series’ handling of Trudy’s death.
The despicable villain Dale the Whale has long since divided fans in each of his three iterations; while some love to hate his character, others hate him outright. Biederbeck’s importance in the eventual solving of Trudy’s murder in the Monk season 8 finale is undeniable regardless of reception, but the execution of this character left something to be desired.

Werewolf films have never had the same cultural impact as vampire movies, or kaiju movies, or ghost stories, but in many ways that lesser renown is a selling point. Because it's a subgenre less codified by Hollywood, and less subject to certain tropes, the werewolf film has been able to,...

When Amy Heckerling scored a teen comedy hit in 1995 with "Clueless" by working from the Jane Austen's 1816 novel "Emma," Hollywood figured there might be a potential goldmine in youth-skewing films based on classic works of fiction. Gil Junger certainly found this to be the case with "10 Things I Hate About You," his high school-set take on William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew," while Robert Iscove scored a box office hit with his "Pygmalion" riff "She's All That." So it wasn't all that shocking when Roger Kumble found intrigue and no shortage of sex appeal via "Cruel Intentions," his scheming rich kids reworking of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos' "Les Liaisons dangereuses."
Why did the film work so well? Columbia Pictures' willingness to release the film with an R rating allowed Kumble to push much further with the sensuality. He also had an absolute juggernaut of a young cast in Sarah Michelle Gellar,...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about Season 1 of Cruel Intentions.
Although Sarah Catherine Hook and Zac Burgess play conniving step-siblings with questionable boundaries in Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Prime Video‘s Cruel Intentions reimagining, this duo isn’t your mother’s Kathryn and Sebastian.
Ahead of the eight-episode series’ Thursday premiere on the platform, the actors behind Caroline Merteuil and Lucien Belmont discussed the “collaborative experience” of creating their characters with showrunners Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher, as well as pilot director Adam Arkin.
“They were so specific, they were like, ‘We don’t want to copy and paste, we really want a fresh voice, a fresh take on this,'” explained Hook. “And I personally thought that was so smart. And I’m so thankful because you don’t feel like you have to try to match what’s going on there. So, they really gave us a lot of creative liberties,...

Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television partied like it was 1999 on Tuesday for the premiere of its Cruel Intentions reimagining in Los Angeles.
Set at the fictional Manchester College in Washington D.C., co-creators Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher explained to Deadline what inspired the setting for their update of the ’99 Roger Kumble-helmed teen film and the 1782 French novel Dangerous Liaisons, and how they continued to “focus on that sexiness” from its source materials.
“Greek Life was a place that we hadn’t really seen as a royal court, as a place that has all of these kinds of rites and rituals in modern society still, but that still feels sort of antiquated” said Goodman. “In the best way — we love our Greeks. The first trailer for The Night Agent season 2 has arrived. The Netflix action show premiered in 2023, following FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) as his Night Action job manning a mysterious White House phone plunges him into a world of political intrigue. The Night Agent season 2 was renewed less than a week after season 1 premiered, and season 3 was renewed in October. It has also been revealed that the show would take on an approach similar to Prime Video's Reacher, still following Basso's Peter but with many season 1 supporting players not set to return.
Netflix has now unveiled the official teaser for The Night Agent season 2. While it only lasts a brief 30 seconds, it packs in a variety of high-octane action moments featuring the return of Peter, who has seemingly become embroiled in a new adventure with an even more dangerous enemy. Though they don't have nearly as many big-screen appearances as zombies or vampires, werewolves are still popular characters depicted in several films. It's not always the case, but most films with the hairy supernatural species show the werewolf characters as ordinary people turning into vicious killers. However, it's not a rule that werewolf stories must be told within the horror genre. Films like Teen Wolf have used lycanthropy to tell relatable coming-of-age stories through a comedic lens.
Stories of lycanthropy align with the 1980s cultural shift when conversations around sex and puberty were seeping into pop culture. Many of the '80s werewolf films deal with supernatural characters entering a new phase of life, with the physical transformation from human to wolf being representative of this change. Many of these transformations depicted in '80s werewolf films are presented as being painful, which happens to pair well with gory imagery typically associated with horror films.

Since transitioning from TV to movies, Will Smith has become one of Hollywoods biggest stars, with the catalog to back up his status. Smith first rose to prominence as the star of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Not many TV actors can move on to films so easily, but Smith clearly had the talent, the charisma and the pure intangible star power. Throughout the 1990s, he starred in a string of huge box office hits.
Although Smith was initially seen as a comedic actor, with movies like Bad Boys and Men in Black, he has shown a more impressive range. With three Oscar nominations to his name, Smith has proven his chops in biopics, action movies and traditional dramas. This means that his best movies show many sides to his acting talents, and they span from the early 1990s to the here and now.

The 1990s were a contentious decade for horror movies, with many films from the era not holding up to the scrutiny of modern sensibilities. Though perhaps not as highly regarded as the previous decade, the greatest 90s horror movies showed off what the decade was capable of, from clever slashers that deconstructed the genre like Scream to thrilling intersections of horror and drama like The Silence of the Lambs. Sadly, not every scary movie ages quite as well as these masterpieces, as the 90s has demonstrated repeatedly.
There are many things that can date a movie quite substantially when looked back on through a modern lens. In many cases, it's changing social norms and the constant evolution of pop culture that reflects poorly on films of the past. However, especially bad special effects or outdated filmmaking practices can be just as destructive to a given movie's longevity, especially in the horror space,...

Many of the most popular sitcoms of all time have mundane premises — a group of friends hang out in a coffee shop, brainy nerds share an apartment, office workers struggle with their incompetent boss. But sometimes, Hollywood creatives go out on a limb and pitch something a little wackier, and dumbass networks occasionally make those ideas into reality — a reality that’s usually pretty terrible.
Here are eight supremely dumb sitcom premises that should have been laughed right out of the pitch room…
1 Cavemen
I wish I could say this was the only television commercial turned into a network comedy on this list, but that would be a lie. It is, however, the only one that stars Nick Kroll as a Neanderthal struggling to make it in the suburbs. Relatable.
2 My Mother the Car

While waiting for Reacher season 3, there are still plenty of similar series that can scratch the itch of fans awaiting the show's return. Reacher took TV audiences by storm when it premiered in 2022. While the second season of the Prime Video series based on the Jack Reacher book series by Lee Childs has already aired, fans are already eagerly awaiting the highly-anticipated Reacher season 3, which will follow Persuader, the third book in the Jack Reacher series.
The series has been a bona fide star turn for lead Alan Ritchson, who plays the titular loner with a deadpan gravitas and a hulking swagger that has endeared him to fans of the books. Jack Reacher may be the Mary Sue of action-thriller protagonists, a man of such specialized hypercompetence as to occasionally not be believable. Still, he's a heck of a lot of fun to watch as he tracks down his enemies and beats them into submission.

Few actors stack up against the greatness of Colin Farrell. The Irish actor rose to the top of Hollywood but struggled with alcohol and drugs. His comeback, beginning in 2008’s In Bruges, has resulted in an over fifteen-year run of greatness. As the lead of Sugar, a new series from Apple TV+, Farrell once again shines. Through empathy and kindness, he makes Sugar a uniquely human show. Yet, on occasion, the show dips into style over substance. It’s a huge win for Apple TV+ and for Noir fans everywhere.
Sugar – The Plot
The titular John Sugar (Farrell) works as a private investigator, focusing on missing persons cases. His techniques are odd, and his partner Ruby (Kirby) demands he take a break. Despite a well-earned vacation, Sugar cannot resist a call from Jonathan Siegel (James Cromwell), a famed Hollywood producer. However, Siegel’s granddaughter Olivia has gone missing. Despite drug abuse in her past,...

A stylishly engaging and crisp neo-noir steeped in the hardboiled detective tradition, Apple TV+’s “Sugar,” starring Colin Farrell, is rather terrific—that is, until it’s not. Created by Mark Protosevich (“I Am Legend”) and fabulously directed by Brazilian filmmaker Fernando Meirelles (“City Of God”) and Adam Arkin (“The Offer”), “Sugar” is initially sleek and captivatingly crafted in its depiction of L.A.

Since he made his Hollywood debut in the 2000 Vietnam War drama "Tigerland," Colin Farrell's career has had some downs and some ups. All in all, though, he's largely outgrown his 2000s playboy reputation and is deservedly recognized as one of the best movie stars we've got. Farrell's got the eloquent soul of an artist, the way only an Irishman does.
After Farrell's earlier and fruitless efforts to be an action hero, he's learned to not let his occasional franchise gigs distract him from more personal work. Not all his work is on film either. In 2024, he'll be returning to television with two crime drama roles.
He plays Oz Cobblepot in the Max series "Penguin," spinning out of his supporting role in 2022's "The Batman." Before he returns onscreen as the Penguin, though, he's going to star in (and executive produce) "Sugar" for competing streaming service Apple TV+.

It's likely well-known to Starwoids the world over that multiple now-famous actors initially auditioned to play the role of Han Solo in George Lucas' 1977 film "Star Wars." The role ultimately ended up going to Harrison Ford, but Kurt Russell, Nick Nolte, and Christopher Walken also tried out. One can also find old video footage of Charles Martin Smith reading for Luke Skywalker, and Perry King reading for Han. While both King and Smith are talented actors, looking at their audition tapes reveals why neither of them appeared in "Star Wars." They simply didn't have a good handle on the material in that audition. Ford, meanwhile, brought a certain "it-factor" quality that made him imminently magnetic.
King, however, wasn't left out of the "Star Wars" loop entirely. In 1981, writer Brian Daley and director John Madden adapted "Star Wars" into a 13-episode radio serial that broadcast on Kusc in Los Angeles. The...

Back in 1998, John Carpenter’s classic slasher Halloween got a “twenty years later” sequel called Halloween H20 (watch it Here) – and we’re now further removed from the release of H20 than it was from the release of the first Halloween. The film is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and as part of the celebration Paramount will be giving it a 4K steelbook release! The street date is September 26th, and copies can be pre-ordered at This Link. An image of the steelbook case can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Starring original Halloween heroine Jamie Lee Curtis, H20 acknowledged what happened in Halloween II (since Curtis was in it), but ignored the events of the Curtis-less parts 4, 5, and 6. Of course, it also ignored Season of the Witch and its killer masks. Twenty years later, Curtis came back to Halloween again for a trilogy that would ignore...

San Marcos, Calif – There was an Alan Arkin for every generation. Post World War Two adults may have seen him at Chicago’s “The Second City.” Baby Boomers remember his films “Wait Until Dark” and “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians are Coming” and Gen X saw him in “The In-Laws”, “Glengarry Glen Ross” and his Oscar winning turn in “Little Miss Sunshine.” He even did a Netflix series, “The Kominsky Method.” For every generation, for every form of acting, there was Alan Arkin. He passed away on June 29th, 2023, at the age of 89.
Alan Wolf Arkin was born in Brooklyn, and started acting at age 10. After not graduating from two colleges he joined The Second City in 1960 Chicago, one year after it was founded.
