Deadpool and Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds recently confirmed that he and director Shawn Levy attempted to bring Nicolas Cage back as Ghost Rider for the R-rated threequel, but it was a "no-go."
"They were in early drafts. We had versions of that [sequence], but then as it shook out, you're sort of looking...We're trying to make the movie responsibly, as well. It's a big budget. It's the biggest budget of any of the Deadpool movies, but you want to give yourself as much constraint, which really I think facilitates asymmetrical thinking and creativity. If you have too much time or too much money, it usually murders that kind of creativity. So, yeah, you're shrinking things."
"But we did talk to Nic Cage," the actor continued. "We tried to get him, but he was a no-go.... I would've loved him."

With the holidays in full swing, it’s time to unwrap the sack and ask point blank: What is the all-time Best Worst Christmas action movie? Invasion USA? Money Train? Maybe the recently released Red One? With plenty of gifts to sift through, John Frankenheimer’s Reindeer Games instantly stands out as the ultimate fun, so-bad-it’s-good yuletide action affair. Even the great Charlize Theron, who has become Hollywood’s most hardened action heroine in the interim, told Esquire Magazine in 2008 that Reindeer Games was the worst movie she ever made, stating:
“Reindeer Games Was a bad, bad, bad movie. But I got to work with John Frannkenheimer. I wasn’t lying to myself. That’s why I did it.”
Indeed, every serious cinephile knows full well that Frankenheimer helmed some of the best cross-genre movies in the 1960s and 1970s, including such minor and major classics as The Young Savages,...

There isn't a dearth of movies that redefined their genres; it's a considerably common phenomenon due to the cyclical nature of popular culture. The same set of tropes goes through the phases of being reclaimed from their past rejection, recontextualized for the current age, overused to exhaustion, and then rejected for the previous set of tropes to make a return. This is how we have movies that reinvigorated dying genres, either by subverting prevalent tropes at the time or by reintroducing tropes previously lost to overuse that feel refreshing at that point in time.
Of course, some movies can't be put into one genre because they're that different, but genre films particularly go through a reinvention every few years with the introduction of a new unique perspective. The switch in perspective can take the form of narrative structure, visual conventions, or even characterization. While the last is a rarer circumstance,...

Note: The following story contains spoilers from “What We Do in the Shadows” Season 6, Episode 9.
From its first season, “What We Do in the Shadows” has been a show unafraid to cheekily drop big names, especially if the actors in question have a vampire on their IMDb page. And in its final season, the FX comedy embraced its chaotic, star-studded side once more.
“Come Out and Play” once again finds the Staten Island crew among the many, many, many throngs of vampires that inhabit New York, from the Meatpacking hotties to the aspiring artist vampires who have to hold down day jobs as baristas. But there’s one especially tall, pale and questioning vamp that may have caught viewers’ eyes. Here’s your guide to the “True Blood” star who’s casually in this latest season.

Remember the days when buddy cop shows were the bread and butter of American television?
From Starsky & Hutch to Miami Vice, the genre gave us mismatched partners who bickered, bantered, and ultimately brought down the bad guys.
It was escapism at its finest — a world of fast cars, sharp one-liners, and explosive finales.
Starsky & Hutch (ABC/Screenshot)
But over the years, the buddy cop genre has faded from the U.S. small screen.
Don’t worry, though; it’s alive and well — it just packed its bags and went global.
A Brief History of Buddy Cop Glory
The buddy cop formula hit its stride in the 1980s and 1990s, an era when the appeal of Lethal Weapon and Beverly Hills Cop carried over from the big screen to TV.
Shows like Starsky & Hutch and Cagney & Lacey offered variations on the theme, combining humor, action, and, occasionally, a dash of drama.

In Todd Phillips' 2019 "Joker," Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is a nobody, in the sense that he is made to feel that his dreams and hopes amount to nothing, like that of a non-entity. There are some worthwhile layers to this character study, as Arthur is shaped by cyclical abuse and trauma, which he initially attempts to stifle by attempting to make people laugh. However, one bad joke after another escalates into a killing spree, and before he can even process what has happened, he evolves into a symbol of anarchy in Gotham, inadvertently infecting others with his madness. He starts as the Joker, but his life-altering act of infamy morphs the individual into an idea, shared freely among those obsessed with what they think he stands for, creating many who aspire to be Jokers.

Fox's crime drama Prison Break ran for five original seasons in the mid to late 2000s and starred several actors with successful TV careers. Seeing the success of serialized shows like Lost and 24, the network had faith in the success of Prison Break. The series is set in prison and stars Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller as imprisoned brothers Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield. The former is accused of murder and sentenced to death, while the latter gets himself put in prison so he can break his brother out, believing he is innocent.
The thrills and originality established in Prison Break season 1 earned widespread acclaim. Though later seasons of Prison Break would struggle to return to a similar status, the series still had a strong fan base. The response from audiences prompted both a TV film based on the series' characters and a revival season in 2017. Many of Prison Break...

Into the Badlands stars Daniel Wu in the lead role, with Orla Brady, Sarah Bolger, Aramis Knight, Emily Beecham, Oliver Stark, Madeleine Mantock, Ally Ioannides, Marton Csokas, and Nick Frost starring in supporting roles. Into the Badlands is a unique series with a unique setting, and that’s why it is hard to find a series with a similar setting and story elements, but we have tried very hard to find shows with similar story elements and many high-octane action sequences.

After four successful seasons, Queen Latifah's Robyn McCall is not slowing down now in the exciting CBS show, The Equalizer.
It can't be easy to reimagine a role that the legendary Denzel Washington once played, but Queen Latifah does it with all the grace and strength of someone who has been in the television industry for over thirty years.
She has amassed over one hundred award nominations and thirty wins in her career, including two Critics' Choice awards, two Golden Globes, a Grammy, an Emmy, a People's Choice award, and three Screen Actors Guild awards.
Wouldn't you give her her own show?!
Queen Latifah is film and television royalty who continues to remind us of why she's an industry staple.
She is versatile enough to easily step into any genre, from action and drama to comedic and romantic.

A fan-made Ghost Rider trailer proves that Jensen Ackles is a perfect candidate for the McU's version of the cursed anti-hero. Jensen Ackles' performance as Dean Winchster in Supernatural and Soldier Boy in The Boys make him a good fit for Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch. Ackles has expressed his interest in playing Batman, but he could instead join the McU's Midnight Sons team as Ghost Rider.
A fan-made concept trailer for the McU's Ghost Rider shows what Jensen Ackles would look like as the Spirit of Vengeance. After Nicolas Cage's two live-action appearances in 2007's Ghost Rider movie and its 2011 sequel, Ghost Rider only appeared in Agents of Shield, this time embodied by Gabriel Luna's Robbie Reyes instead of Johnny Blaze. But since Agents of Shield hasn't been fully integrated into the McU's main timeline, the Avengers' home universe doesn't have its own Ghost Rider variant yet.

A magical location in The Island Between Tides
In the first part of my interview with Andrew Holmes and Austin Andrews on their latest film, The Island Between Tides, we discussed their fascination with time and their work with stars Paloma Kwiatkowski, Donal Logue and David Mazouz. In part two, we discuss their locations, aspects of storytelling, their feelings about screening at Fantaspoa and the way they captured the magic of the time-shifting island at the centre of their ghostly tale.

Paloma Kwiatkowski as Lily in The Island Between Tides
Somewhere between an adaptation of and a sequel to Jm Barrie’s play Mary Rose, The Island Between Tides is the story of a family whose lives are turned upside down by encounters with a magical island where time runs at a different pace. Lily (played as an adult by Paloma Kwiatkowski) is lost there briefly as a child and experiences a change of perspective as a result. Her return visit as an adult sees her flung forward 25 years into the future. Donal Logue plays the father and Camille Sullivan the sister who have to cope with her disappearances, while Logue’s Gotham co-star David Mazouz takes on the role of Jared, the son who grows up without her, also altered by the island’s influence and struggling with mental illness and substance abuse as a result.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Equalizer Season 4 premiere “Truth for a Truth.”] The Equalizer left off at the end of last season with Robyn (Queen Latifah) stuck watching as her team—Mel (Liza Lapira), Harry (Adam Goldberg), and Dante (Tory Kittles)—were tied up and trapped in a room engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the Season 4 premiere doesn’t waste time revealing who survives. Robyn had been shocked to discover that Michelle (Ilfenesh Hadera), someone from her past she thought was dead, was alive and out for revenge. But as soon as Robyn was left alone with one of Michelle’s men, she easily knocked him out, found the room where her friends were kept, used a grenade to blow open the door, and got all of them out safely. We may not be able to say the same for Fisk (Donal Logue) and the others from the CIA transporting Michelle at the end of the episode after ...

Video game movies have improved significantly in the 2020s, with well-reviewed adaptations becoming more common. Some recent video game adaptations, such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Gran Turismo, have been successful in capturing the essence of the source material. Despite the success, there are still challenges with adapting video games, such as finding the right casting and balancing faithful adaptation with creative storytelling.
Video game movies are finally something to look forward to, as the best adaptations released in the 2020s are proving year after year. For a long time, Hollywood was unsuccessful with video game adaptations. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the first video game movie to crack a 60% critic score and avoid a "rotten" rating wasn't released until 2019. Since then, there have been several other well-reviewed movies based on video games that scored even higher.

Comic book fans in the late 1990s likely recall the ambitious plan by Artisan Entertainment, a then-rising indie film studio, to make a long series of mid-budget films based on Marvel superheroes. Avi Arad, then the CEO of Marvel Entertainment, had overseen a deal that would allow Artisan to make movies with Black Panther, Thor, Deadpool, Ant-Man, Iron Fist, and Morbius, as well as Power Pack, Longshot, and an irreverent dark comedy about Mort the Dead Teenager. The deal was finalized in 2000. In 2003, however, Artisan was acquired by Lionsgate, effectively ending what would have been the ambitiously planned early-2000s mid-budget version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Despite how successful Disney's MCU would become a decade later, Marvel was once considered a non-viable source of film revenue. Indeed, while comic book sales were up across the board in the 1990s, Marvel was struggling to make their characters more visible in the marketplace.

Staci Wolfe is retiring. She’s the founder/CEO of Polaris PR, the agency that reps such talent as Steve Buscemi, Tim Roth, filmmakers Allen & Albert Hughes, Gary Sinise, David Copperfield, Matt Dillon, Eric Bana, Aaron Eckhart, Donal Logue, and Gordon Ramsay. Her longtime associate Alana Kass will take the helm of the agency.
Kass joined Polaris in 2011 after working for several years with the late awards consultant Ronni Chasen, and she has been instrumental in the campaigns of all of the company’s clients as well as her own roster including Jonathan Van Ness.

Weapons expert Toby Capwell criticizes the historical accuracy of combat scenes in Vikings, pointing out inaccuracies in clothing and helmets especially. Capwell explains that the leather clothing worn by characters has no historical precedent, and that the helmets are 800 years wrong. Despite its historical inaccuracies, Vikings has still managed to become a hit show, highlighting that accuracy is not always the most important factor for success.
The accuracy of Vikings has been called into question by a weapons expert. The series, which premiered on the History channel in 2013, is based on a variety of Norse sagas revolving around Viking chieftain Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and his descendants. The massive ensemble cast of the show also included Katheryn Winnick, Jessalyn Gilsig, Gustaf Skarsgård, Gabriel Byrne, Donal Logue, Alyssa Sutherland, Alexander Ludwig, Kevin Durand, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ragga Ragnars, and Ray Stevenson.

Ever since the 1975 horror blockbuster Jaws made us afraid to go into the water, America has had an obsession with sharks. While great whites get most of the attention, any aquatic killer with sharp teeth will usually quench our collective thirst for marine menace. In 1988, Discovery Channel launched Shark Week, a seven day block of programming filled with nature documentaries, celebrity cameos, and aquatic reality TV designed to explore the wide world of sharks. This annual event has been going strong for the past 35 years, working its way into the public consciousness to become a household name. Each summer’s horror offerings usually bring with it one or more films of the Shark Horror subgenre. Featuring the underwater predators as their villains, these movies vary widely in quality and usually sink or swim based on the verisimilitude of their special effects.

From their windowless sub-basement office, FBI Agents Fox “Spooky” Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) began their assignment on The X-Files chasing little green men, or rather gray, as Mulder points out during the third episode, “Squeeze.” The “Pilot” episode was about alien experimentation. “Deep Throat” was about pilots who fly experimental craft, possibly designed using extraterrestrial technology. Season 1 episode 3 was more down to earth, while still out of this world.
According to both his DNA report and FBI profile, animal control officer Eugene Victor Tooms (Doug Hutchison) would be due to wake up some time in 2023, if only he’d have stepped off that mini-mall escalator. Fan favorite Tooms wasn’t only the first monster-of-the-week on The X-Files, but one of very few monsters who showed up on two different weeks. According to both his DNA report and FBI profile, animal control officer Eugene Victor Tooms (Doug Hutchison) would be due to wake up some time in 2023, if only he’d have stepped off that mini-mall escalator. Last summer, a TV series based on the Resident Evil video game franchise made its debut on the Netflix streaming service – and was quickly cancelled. That show was an entirely separate project from Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, the feature film that was released at the end of 2021… and it looks like Welcome to Raccoon City was the more successful of the two projects, because it might actually be getting a follow-up! The Writers Guild of America 2023 strike is continuing to make a dent in upcoming Hollywood projects.
The strike began May 2, with multiple productions halting in solidarity with the demonstrations. The WGA strike took effect after six weeks of unsuccessful negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, representing the likes of Netflix, Disney, Apple, NBCUniversal, Warner Bros., Paramount, Amazon, and more. Writers are demanding better pay, residuals structures, and protection against AI as a replacement tool for their work, among other concerns.
While the strike has not yet affected some upcoming consecutive seasons of fan-favorite shows, “Saturday Night Live” and a handful of late-night talk shows including Jimmy Kimmel, “The Late Show,” and “The Tonight Show” have gone dark. Manhattan picketers have also protested outside filming on the latest season of “Billions,” though the long-running Showtime series has yet to come to a full stop.
