Violence and media have often come under scrutiny over their alleged influence on real-life violence. While leading industry figures like Quentin Tarantino expressed that they have no obligation to what a person does after watching his work, Jon Bernthal on the flipside acknowledged this debate surrounding the desensitization of violence.

Dark Horse Comics has dropped Neil Gaiman, cancelling his Anansi Boys comic series, in the wake of sexual assault allegations brought against the author.
The publisher posted to X Friday night writing, “Dark Horse takes seriously the allegations against Neil Gaiman and we are no longer publishing his works. Confirming that the ‘Anansi Boys’ comic series and collected volume have been canceled.”
U.K.-based Tortoise Media spotlighted accounts from four women — two who came forward in early July 2024 and two more who told their stories at the end of the month — about their encounters with the Coraline and Sandman creator.
The comic books are the latest projects in Gaiman’s creative catalogue that have paused or been canceled in light of the news, which Gaiman addressed on his personal blog, denying the allegations.

Tom Cruise was nominated for four Oscars and three of the nods were for his acting performances. It is sad to see his losing streak at the Academy Awards, especially since he bagged the Golden Globes for these three roles.
There were also a couple of other performances from the actor that truly deserved all the recognition in the world.

There was an accusation that Cruise was intentionally pushed out of the competition one time. Fans hope that his upcoming project with Alejandro G. Iñárritu will finally break his losing streak. Iñárritu had a hand in Leonardo DiCaprio’s first Oscar win after he was snubbed of the award for years.

The Academy Awards are considered the pinnacle of cinematic achievement. They are a celebration of films that have left an indelible mark on audiences and the industry alike. Every year, the Best Picture category incites intense debates about which movie truly deserves the honor.
Most of the time the Academy’s and the fans’ opinions align with winners such as The Godfather or Schindler’s List. Other times, however, their choices leave a bitter taste, as was the case with Crash and Shakespeare in Love.

This year, Emilia Perez stands to make Oscar history, with its bold narrative and social commentary striking a chord with many. While its themes of representation and inclusion have garnered applause, questions linger whether it deserves the Oscar or not.

The 2025 Academy Award nominations are out, and they are whelming. The musical drama Emilia Pérez received the most nominations with 13, followed by Wicked and The Brutalist with 10 apiece, and then A Complete Unknown and Conclave with eight apiece.
Meanwhile, Dune: Part Two got only five nominations, down from the 10 that Dune: Part One received after it came out in 2021. This is despite the fact that Dune: Part Two was better reviewed than Part One and made more money at the box office than Part One. If you saw the movie, you know that Part Two finished adapting Frank Herbert's seminal 1965 sci-fi novel Dune, so it was no wonder that the second movie improved on the first; director Denis Villeneuve got to work with the juiciest parts of the book.
So why did Part Two receive fewer Oscar nominations? And why did Villeneuve not get a nomination for either of the films?...

Despite reports that audiences wanted less sex on the big screen, hanky panky has made an impressive comeback in the last year. A few thoughts.
Last year saw a rise in films that explored sex and specifically women’s desire on the big screen. Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor got in a steamy love triangle in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers and Nicole Kidman is currently drinking milk at Harris Dickinson’s command in UK cinemas in Halina Reijn’s Babygirl, which debuted in 2024. Anora, Sean Baker’s sex worker comedy-drama is one of the front-runners at this year’s awards season after bagging the Palme d’Or at Cannes last year.
We also got treated to more queer sex on screen, still a bit of an anomaly, at least in the mainstream. Alongside Challengers, Guadagnino also offered us Queer, in which Daniel Craig’s William begins a relationship with a much younger man,...

Don Lemon thinks audiences would love to see Matt Lauer back on TV, “now that [being] canceled is over” with Donald Trump back in office.
Speaking to the “Hollywood Raw” podcast, the former CNN anchor gushed that, as far as he can tell, “people love” the former “Today” show host, who was fired in 2017 by NBC for “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace” which the network determined “may not have been an isolated incident.”
2 years later, in Ronan Farrow’s 2019 expose “Catch and Kill,” Lauer was accused on the record of sexually harassing several former NBC colleagues, and one former NBC producer accused him of raping her. The book also reports that Harvey Weinstein once attempted to use his knowledge of Lauer’s behavior to convince NBC to back off reporting about his own sexual misconduct. Lauer has denied all accusations.

The drama between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni is heating up faster than a microwave dinner, and it’s safe to say things aren’t looking too appetizing for Lively’s career right now. Renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg almost worked with Steve McQueen in the past, but it seemed like the opportunity was elusive and ultimately never happened. Exclusive: Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey is adding to its already stellar cast as sources tell Deadline that Emmy winner Jon Bernthal is boarding the film. He joins a cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron.
Last month, Universal revealed that Nolan’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning Oppenheimer would be an adaptation of the epic poem composed by Homer around the 8th century Bce.
“Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology,” the studio said at the time. “The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to Imax film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”
It is unknown who Bernthal will be playing; Universal had no comment on his casting.
The ancient Greek poem is one of the foundational texts of Western literature.

In the fall of 2017 I worked at a media startup that covered the tech world. Having attended many tech conferences in that span of time, the panel that retains all these years later is one where I saw a dumpy old man in a lab coat give a PowerPoint presentation on the potential societal benefits of sex robots. Besides opportunistically saying that these inventions would have the potential to stop violent men like Harvey Weinstein (this was in the heat of MeToo), there was the highlight of him noting that he initially felt the inspiration to try inventing robots for men to have sex with in light of the grief inflicted on the world by 9/11.

"The Brutalist" easily stands as one of 2024's best movies, as /Film's Chris Evangelista reviewed for us. The HBO documentary Surveilled, an hour-long film directed by Matthew O’Neill and Perri Peltz with Ronan Farrow, examines Pegasus, a spyware created by the Israeli Nso Group.
This software breaks into smartphones, extracts data, and turns on cameras or microphones without detection. Governments use it against criminals, and target journalists, dissidents, and citizens who oppose them. The film shows privacy destruction through technology.
People depend on smartphones daily, yet Surveilled makes clear the impact of digital monitoring. Governments claim spyware keeps society safe from crime, but use these systems to dominate and restrict people, including in democratic countries. The documentary reveals stark facts about personal devices becoming weapons that endanger basic freedoms.

The director and star of hit summer romance It Ends With Us are facing off with lawsuits alleging sexual harassment and defamation
It Ends With Us should have been a success story. The long-awaited film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, a tale of cyclical domestic violence, premiered in August to decent reviews and wide audience interest; it grossed $350m, against a $25m budget, despite a tide of press and social media speculation over an alleged rift between its director, Justin Baldoni, and its star, Blake Lively. Most of the ire was trained on Lively – for glossing over the subject of domestic violence with florals, for simultaneously promoting her haircare and alcohol lines, for being gruff with reporters in the past, while Baldoni, who played the abuser in the film, championed abuse survivors. But the movie was a hit, demonstrating the viability of female-led, mid-budget melodramas at the box office.

Who’s winning the PR war in the ongoing legal battle between “It Ends With Us” co-stars Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively? Possibly neither of them, legal experts say, as people — whether they’re in the industry or not — grow increasingly weary of their war of words and lawsuits of the past month.
“There seems to already be a public fatigue with the back and forth here, with neither seemingly clearly free from blame, and no single incident that either can point to as a clearly horrendous act that deserves public backlash,” Los Angeles attorney Camron Dowlatshahi of Msd Lawyers told TheWrap on Thursday.
Lively gained a tremendous advantage by filing her sexual harassment suit against Baldoni before Christmas, according to legal analysts, but public support for the actress might be shifting as more text messages between the actors emerge, potentially providing room for debate about her allegations.

There are certain artists who are so visionary, so daring in their originality, whose work casts such a primal and enduring spell that it literally becomes hard to imagine the world without them. David Lynch, who died this week at 78, was one of those artists. Just to say that name, David Lynch (so ironic in its simplicity), is to conjure not merely a roster of immortal movies but a higher cosmos of the imagination: a darkly transfixing surrealist theme park where dreams could become real and reality felt like a dream.
Lynch, in his fearless way, reinvented movies, letting the avant-garde rapture of his brain flower into an aesthetic that turned the tropes of Hollywood inside out. My first encounter with a Lynch movie came in 1977, when I was in college and one of our campus film societies had the inspiration to put a giant image of the title character...

The upcoming Disney+ show Daredevil: Born Again brings the old team back together from Netflix's original Daredevil series, with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Foggy Wilson (Elden Henson) all returning to fight the good fight. But so too is the original show's central villain: the all-powerful Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, who's back with a vengeance and once again played by Vincent D'Onofrio.
The original Daredevil series ran for three seasons on Netflix. Garnering a dedicated audience, the show is regarded as one of the greatest Marvel projects of all time. Unlike a lot of what produced by Marvel Studios, the show was brutal, gruesome, and gritty, showing fans a side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe rarely explored onscreen. However, the show was sadly axed after Disney decided it didn't want any Marvel series debuting new episode anywhere other than on its own proprietary platforms.

The trailer for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ dropped yesterday, and fans are thrilled for what’s to come. It confirmed that several key characters will return, including Jon Bernthal as The Punisher and Wilson Bethel as Bullseye.
We also got our first look at Muse and White Tiger, and it appears that Kingpin and Daredevil will have a truce before everything spirals out of control.
Previously, we uncovered an easter egg hinting at Luke Cage’s involvement, and now another similar clue seems to suggest that the Hulk may make an appearance as well.
Right around the 0:28 mark in the trailer, lots of billboards can be seen in the shot. There’s the aforementioned Harlem’s Paradise tease and right next to it, you can see a giant ad for Pingo Doce.

Daredevil: Born Again has finally released its first teaser, giving fans a taste of the violent TV-ma rating that the show is set to boast this March. While fans are excited about what the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen has to offer in his new capacity, some are wondering why this treatment was not given to other street-level characters who deserve it.

However, given the violent imagery that audiences were made privy to through the trailer, fans have been wondering if such a thing was possible, and why it was not given to a different vigilante who could have benefitted from it a lot. As Daredevil: Born Again gears up for a spring release, there are few who are asking why a similar treatment could not have been given to Moon Knight.

Matt Murdock is officially back in the MCU, as Marvel Television has released the first teaser for Daredevil: Born Again online. The teaser mostly revolves around Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock having a rather civil conversation, with it being punctuated with the violence that fans can expect from the show.

According to what audiences have seen in the trailer, Matt Murdock seems to have taken a long sabbatical from crime-fighting, which Wilson Fisk could just have come to know about. A theory suggests that this might be an opening of the show, with the rest of it taking place as a flashback.

The first officially released trailer for Daredevil: Born Again has earned the approval of fans - you can read our in-depth breakdown here - and we now have some 4K screenshots for you to take a closer look at.
Those of you who managed to track down a copy of the leaked D23 trailer likely won't have been too surprised by anything in this sneak peek; however, we're certainly not going to complain about getting long-overdue HD shots of characters like The Punisher, White Tiger, and Muse.
They're not the only ones showcased, of course, as we see more of Bullseye, the Man Without Fear in action, and the returning Foggy Nelson and Karen Page.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly about their return, Charlie Cox said today, "I think of Karen and Foggy as being the heartbeat of Daredevil. Without them, nothing that Matt does really has any emotional impact. The...

Neil Gaiman #MeToo Allegations ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Neil Gaiman, celebrated author of literary works such as The Sandman, Coraline, and Good Omens, has become the center of a severe controversy that has reignited discussions surrounding the #MeToo Movement in the literary world, expanding its reach beyond Hollywood and into the UK writing scene.
Reports indicate that Gaiman, who was accused of sexual misconduct last year, is now facing additional allegations directly from the victims. Gaiman’s wife, Amanda Palmer, a singer from The Dresden Dolls and an outspoken advocate against sexual violence, has also been accused of facilitating her husband’s alleged actions. In the latest details surrounding Gaiman, two women implicated Palmer in Gaiman’s misconduct, raising questions about the extent of her involvement.
An investigative report by New York Magazine connected the allegations not only to the previously known victims but also introduced accounts from four additional women.

Studio Ghibli films didn’t make it to the West on their own. Sometimes, Hayao Miyazaki needed a helping hand, especially in the 1990s when anime and films from Japan weren’t so popular.
The only obstacle was to prevent the Disneyfication of his films so that they could fit a Western audience. Many Western producers sought to do exactly this which would’ve made Studio Ghibli films lose Miyazaki’s touch altogether. Princess Mononoke nearly fell victim to this.

Last year, disturbing allegations of sexual assault have resurfaced involving acclaimed author Neil Gaiman. Initially reported by Tortoise Media, the allegations involve claims from two women who accuse Gaiman of sexual assault during what they describe as a consensual relationship. According to the alleged victims, Gaiman engaged in degrading and non-consensual sexual encounters with them.
Now several months later, Neil Gaiman is facing more sexual assault allegations, which were revealed in a cover story by ‘New York Magazine.’ In response to the claims, J.K. Rowling shared her thoughts on social media, drawing a comparison between Gaiman and Harvey Weinstein.
Rowling, who is no stranger to controversy herself, suggested that the public’s reactions to Gaiman’s allegations reminded her of the initial reactions to Weinstein during the #MeToo movement.

(Updated Jan 14 with Neil Gaiman blog statement) More sexual assault allegations against Neil Gaiman that emerged Monday have seen J.K. Rowling offer a chilling and insightful comparison for The Sandman writer.

Disney+ always seems to leave it incredibly late before promoting Marvel Studios' small screen projects. For example, our first look at Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man didn't swing online until a month before its premiere!
It could be that the streamer wants to keep these TV shows as fresh as possible in people's minds, though it still seems strange not to hype up a series like Daredevil: Born Again as the event it arguably is. That's why, as we write this, there's still no sign of the trailer.
Perhaps it will drop any day now or maybe it's being saved for the Super Bowl; whatever the case may be, fans of the Man Without Fear are growing increasingly frustrated.
To tide you over on what's proven to be a surprisingly slow news weekend, we have a resurfaced version of last October's Daredevil: Born Again trailer shown to New York Comic Con attendees.

Adele is one of the most accomplished singers of her generation. In addition to being one of the world's best-selling musicians, she's won 16 Grammys, 18 Billboard Music Awards, 12 Brit Awards, five American Music Awards, and among her other accolades, her "Skyfall" theme got James Bond an Oscar.
James Bond movies have followed a winning formula that's kept 007 on movie screens for 60+ plus years, and that formula follows a few trademarks: Beautiful women, super-villain lairs with death traps, lots of guns, terrible puns, etc. Before the adventure truly kicks off, though, Bond films must have a lavish title sequence with a custom-composed song.
The first two Bond films, "Dr. No" and "From Russia With Love," actually used instrumental openings. Then for the third (and some say best) Bond film, "Goldfinger," the theme song had lyrics -- written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse, and sung by Shirley Bassey. "Goldfinger" the song is...

Despite a litany of streaming services out there to choose from, the only surefire way to have immediate access to a film is to own it yourself. But with companies like Best Buy getting rid of their Physical Media departments, collecting has become more and more niche. This is a shame because I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve gone to JustWatch and discovered the movie I was looking for wasn’t streaming Anywhere. And even worse when we go to find a copy and discover that it’s not even available to own physically! I’ve never heard of a company refusing to make money, but we’ve seen it time and time again in the movie industry.
As a big fan of the Scream franchise, I set out to collect all of the 4K Steelbooks for the franchise. Hell, I even imported the second one from Europe.

For a long time, Western audiences have largely viewed animation, particularly Japanese anime, as a medium restricted to children or as something “vulgar”. However, in 2001, Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpiece Spirited Away introduced a seismic shift in the global perception of anime.
This Studio Ghibli movie did something unthinkable: it not only captivated audiences worldwide but also became the first anime film to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2003.

Spirited Away wasn’t just a movie; it was a statement that elevated anime from a niche subculture to global acclaim. And, behind the film’s success lies a complex history of challenges, cultural perceptions, and a director who refused to compromise his artistic integrity.
Spirited Away: The theme that resonated globally
For years, animation in the West was often dismissed as childish entertainment or a popular comedy medium.

Brody, who won an Academy Award for his portrayal in The Pianist, wore a sleek black suit highlighting his timeless style. Chapman, the co-founder and creative force behind the luxury fashion house Marchesa, stunned in one of her designs. Her gown featured intricate embroidery and a dramatic silhouette, exemplifying the brand’s signature elegance.

What’s going on with the incredible Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Although his adversaries Red Hulk and The Leader (as well as his ex-girlfriend Betty Ross) are known to be in Captain America: Brave New World, it doesn’t seem that he’s going to show up in the movie – and if he does, it’s likely to just be a cameo. Last time we saw him, he was still in “Smart Hulk” mode but also equipped with a Hulk Inhibitor Device that allowed him to turn back into his regular human form. He served as a mentor to his cousin Jennifer Walters on She-Hulk, where he also introduced his son Skaar. We’re likely to see him again in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars – but now, there are Rumors that Marvel may also be developing a World War Hulk movie (with George Miller in the running to direct it!

After being introduced as the secondary antagonist of the third season of Netflix's Daredevil, Wilson Bethel is set to return as the highly unstable Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter, aka Bullseye, in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again Disney+ revival.
Bullseye is a fairly well-known Marvel Comics villain, but, as you may already be aware, Bethel came very close to landing the role of a very different much bigger character back in the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During a recent Fan Expo event (via Screen Rant), Bethel recalled narrowly losing the part of Steve Rogers in Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger to Chris Evans.
"The hardest hit I took was, I came very close to being cast as Captain America. I went through multiple rounds of screen testing, and the suit felt incredible. Yeah [when asked if he has pictures]. There were all these things that were happening that made me feel...

With so many conflicting reports and rumors relating to Spider-Man 4 doing the rounds over the past few weeks, it's difficult to get a read on exactly what's going on with the project, but several different sources have claimed that - for whatever reason - the story still hasn't come together.
The script is believed to be undergoing a major overhaul, possibly due to differences of opinion between star Tom Holland and Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, and last we heard, the movie was still a long way from starting production because there isn’t a finalized shooting draft yet.
Scooper Daniel Richtman has now shared an update, and he believes that the script is still being worked on. He also claims that the most recent version of the story - prior to the rewrites - included two classic Spidey villains in Shocker and Scorpion.
Both of these characters have appeared in previous Spider-Man films,...

Ronan Farrow has struck a multi-project deal with Audible, starting with a new podcast.
The podcast, Not a Very Good Murderer, will launch March 20, 2025. The show is based on years of reporting and follows Farrow as he tries to vet a political lead and instead finds himself involved in a series of cold cases in one of the country’s wealthiest gated communities.
“I’m really looking forward to telling stories through this relationship. We need companies that are willing to platform investigative journalism—and, more broadly, companies willing to put nuanced, complicated, original stories into the world. That starts with Not a Very Good Murderer, which defies neat categorization and I think people will find surprising in a lot of ways,” Farrow said.
Farrow was previously the host of The Catch and Kill podcast, based on his book which followed the sexual assault claims against notable figures including Harvey Weinstein and Matt Lauer.
