Thirty years ago today, on September 21, 1993, at 10/9c, NYPD Blue premiered on ABC.
However, its debut didn't necessarily mean it reached every household.
The controversial series premiered to apocalyptic fanfare, with critics wondering if the series would usher in the end of TV as viewers knew it.
It’s funny the things you remember from your youth. I was at the age where the idea of a series willing to push the envelope, delivering a taste of the big screen on the small, sounded like an excellent idea.
They say that all publicity is good publicity, but people around the country were so concerned about the effect the show may have on the morals of the everyman that 57 local stations around the country refused to air the premiere.
A month later, there were still 45 ABC affiliates who, due to the possibility of coarse language and nudity, were still not airing it.

Days of Our Lives is no stranger to hiring prominent name actors.
Sometimes people make a name for themselves on the soap before hitting the big time, such as when Days of Our Lives alum Charlotte Ross joined the cast of NYPD Blue. Other times, Days of Our Lives hires well-known actors such as Marla Gibbs as recurring characters.
And now, Days of Our Lives has scored its biggest guest appearance yet -- Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke!
At 97, Van Dyke is one of Hollywood's oldest and best-known actors. Whether you know him as the ottoman-tripping Rob Petrie from the 1950s Dick Van Dyke show, movies such as Mary Poppins, or his long-running cozy mystery series Diagnosis: Murder, you're sure to have seen him Somewhere.
He shows no signs of slowing down, having recently appeared on The Masked Singer. And now he can add a soap opera appearance to his lengthy resume.

Charlotte Ross rose to fame thanks to her role on Days of Our Lives. From 1987 to 1991, Ross portrayed Eve Donovan on the soap opera. While Ross has gone on to achieve success in primetime, she could be returning to her soap opera roots.

Exclusive: Beyond Salem may end up luring a whole new set of fans from General Hospital now that Steve Burton has joined the Days of Our Lives spinoff on Peacock. The beloved actor, who who left the ABC soap in 2021 after failing to adhere to its vaccine policy, has joined the second installment of Beyond Salem.
Though Gh fans certainly miss him as Jason Morgan, Burton couldn’t be more thrilled about reprising his role as Harris Michaels — a Dool character he originated in 1988 and is now reprising for Beyond Salem starting Monday. New episodes of Beyond Salem will drop each day through next Friday.
“Look, the circumstance [of his Gh departure] was tough and you know, that’s just the way it is,” Burton tells Deadline. “I’ll always be grateful for my time there. It was my family for so long. I grew up there and the fans have always been awesome to me.

We explore the TV episodes that borrow the structure of 1998’s Sliding Doors to discover what is and what might have been…
The film Sliding Doors had a bit of a moment back in 1998. Following a two-tier narrative structure, Peter Howitt’s film explores how different things might be if Gwyneth Paltrow’s Helen Quilley misses her tube home. In one timeline, she catches her train and makes it home in time to catch her boyfriend cheating, and in the other, she remains blissfully unaware.
Though not as fondly remembered two decades later, Sliding Doors belongs with Groundhog Day and It’s A Wonderful Life in the ranks of time-bending films that have inspired numerous structural riffs in TV episodes. Cinematically, it’s used to portray the various ironies and agonies that plague the two Helens (an anniversary special we’re sure we’ll never see), but...

Award-winning music icon Tanya Tucker is joining forces with the Animal Legal Defense Fund to urge families to avoid roadside zoos. After a recent visit to Special Memories Zoo in Greenville, Wisconsin, Tucker was so disturbed by the conditions and health of the animals she felt compelled to stand up and advocate on their behalf.
Tucker published a powerful open letter detailing the serious mistreatment of animals she witnessed at the Special Memories roadside zoo, which has been cited by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (Usda) multiple times for Animal Welfare Act violations, including animals housed in filthy enclosures, lack of drinking water and food contaminated with rodent droppings.
“The animals at the Special Memories Zoo can’t speak for themselves — we are grateful to Tanya Tucker for speaking for them,” says Animal Legal Defense Fund Executive Director Stephen Wells. “The cruel conditions in which the animals live at Special Memories Zoo is illegal.

Eve Donovan is a major troublemaker in Salem.
Not even the death of her beloved daughter Paige changed her for long. After losing Brady Black to her own lies and manipulations in 2019, Eve again became bitter, resentful of Jennifer Horton, and hellbent on revenge.
But Eve wasn't always this way. She was once a troubled teenager who just wanted a stable, loving home, preferably with her father.

One of ABC’s signature dramas is staging a comeback. ABC has given a pilot production commitment to NYPD Blue, a new iteration of the iconic cop drama that will revolve around the son of Dennis Franz’s Detective Andy Sipowicz character from the original series. The reboot hails from NYPD Blue alums Matt Olmstead, Nick Wootton and Jesse Bochco. The pilot, a co-production between 20th Century Fox TV, which was behind the original series, and ABC Studios, is already casting its four main roles of NYPD cops, led by Theo.
Unfortunately for all Andy Sipowitz fans, in the sequel his character is dead. The return of NYPD Blue follows his son, Theo, as he tries to earn his detective shield and work in the 15th squad while investigating his father’s murder. Theo seems to have taken after his father as he too is a hard-drinking, hard-headed and quick-witted cop.

Arrow recently said goodbye to original cast member Katie Cassidy, who played Laurel Lance/Black Canary and was killed off in last week's episode. Her departure has been especially hard for Paul Blackthorne, who stars as her father Quentin Lance, and tells People he was "very sad" when he found out about it.
"Working with Katie has been amazing. We had a very special working relationship, which I hoped has been reflected on the screen," says Blackthorne.

The CW has released the first official images from next week’s episode of Arrow, and they’re very intriguing indeed. While The Flash villain Bug-Eyed Bandit hitting Star City is a pretty big deal, these stills also give us a look at a character named “Exoskeleton.” He or she doesn’t hail from the source material, so what they’re up to here remains to be seen.
For more details on what to expect from this instalment of Arrow (titled “Beacon of Hope”), here’s the official synopsis:
Brie Larvan (guest star Emily Kinney) breaks out of jail and turns up at Palmer Tech threatening to kill everyone unless she gets the bio-chip that is implanted in Felicity’s (Emily Bett Rickards) spine. When Oliver (Stephen Amell) realizes that Felicity, Thea (Willa Holland) and Donna (guest star Charlotte Ross) are trapped in Palmer Tech with everyone else,...

Coming off a year in which Felicity alternately mourned and felt betrayed by Oliver, Arrow‘s Emily Bett Rickards was promised “lighter, more jovial” times ahead. Season 4 indeed delivered on that, but also so much more.
With the It whiz-turned-tech titan poised to get blindsided this Wednesday (The CW, 8/7) by the news that fiancé Oliver has a kid out there, TVLine invited Rickards to take stock of her Season 4 storylines to date, tease Felicity’s reaction to the William reveal and wrap her brain around one wild flash-forward grave theory.

After a string of what could be described as “filler” episodes of Arrow, it’s nice to see that next week’s instalment is going to be shifting the spotlight back to Team Arrow’s battle against Hive as Damien Darhk and that villainous organization look to put Star City’s heroes down for good.
For more details on what’s to come in “Code Of Silence,” here’s the official synopsis:
Oliver (Stephen Amell) and team uncover Hive’s plan to take out Team Arrow once and for all. With Hive’s next attack imminent, Lance (Paul Blackthorne) wonders if Donna (guest star Charlotte Ross) is safer without him in her life. Meanwhile, with the wedding fast approaching, Oliver begins to feel guilty that he hasn’t told Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) about his son. James Bamford directed the episode written by Wendy Mericle & Oscar Balderrama.
