Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is set to span many different genres, and include a few surprises, according to composer Nami Melumad. Strange New Worlds is the 11th show in the Star Trek franchise and debuted on Paramount+ in May 2022. So far, it has run for two seasons and 20 episodes. Starring Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, and Rebecca Romijn, the series follows the crew of the Starship Enterprise in the 23rd century, as they explore new worlds. The show received high viewership and critical acclaim, and Strange New Worlds season 3 is due for release in 2025.
In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant to discuss his work on the animated Pixar show, Dream Productions, Melumad also talked about her love of Strange New Worlds, and her excitement about what season 3 of the show is set to bring. While she appeared to rule out another musical episode, despite the success of season 2's "Subspace Rhapsody,...

A harsh reality about Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) was exposed in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, but this trait also makes the Captain of the USS Enterprise admirable. Directed by Valerie Weiss and written by Dana Horgan, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 2, "Ad Astra Per Aspera" dealt with the court-martial of Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) Aka Number One. Una was nearly drummed out of Starfleet and imprisoned for lying about being a genetically engineered Illyrian.
One of the best Star Trek courtroom episodes ever, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' "Ad Astra Per Aspera" began with Captain Pike taking it upon himself to save Number One. Pike recruited Neera Ketoul (Yetude Badaki) as Una's defense counsel. Despite her reluctance after her childhood falling out with Una, Neera took on the United Federation of Planets' tribunal on Number One's behalf. Thanks to Neera, and Una's forthrightness on the stand,...

The "Number One" nickname has a surprisingly personal meaning to Una-Chin Riley in Star Trek lore. Introduced in pilot episode "The Cage" and portrayed by Majel Barrett, Number One was cut from Star Trek: The Original Series when it began airing properly, but has since been handed a modern-day lifeline. Appearing in both Star Trek: Discovery and Strange New Worlds, Number One is currently played by Rebecca Romijn. Whereas Barrett's original was known exclusively as "Number One" during her sole Star Trek credit, the character's true name has subsequently been revealed as Una Chin-Riley.
Star Trek's "Number One" moniker is partially a reference to Una's rank aboard Captain Pike's Enterprise. The title typically denotes the ship's second-in-command, and has, after Majel Barrett, been used for Riker in The Next Generation, Saru in Star Trek: Discovery, and numerous others. Regardless, the case of Una Chin-Riley is a special one.

Being First Officer of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek isn't always a fast track to the Captain's chair. The Starship Enterprise is the flagship of the United Federation of Planets, and it's one of the most coveted posts for ambitious Starfleet Officers. Captains of the Enterprise enjoy becoming part of the starship's storied legacy, and their crews often become cemented as legendary Starfleet heroes. Yet many Number Ones don't automatically get to succeed their Captains and command the Enterprise.
The various incarnations of the USS Enterprise, and its 22nd century predecessor, the Nx-01 Enterprise, are the most famous starships in Star Trek. In turn, Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) are among the greatest icons in Star Trek. But they couldn't have become Starfleet legends without the help of their crews, and, in particular, the best First Officers in Starfleet.

Since 2017, the streaming service Paramount+ (originally called CBS All Access) has debuted the following "Star Trek" shows, all under the watchful eye of executive producer Alex Kurtzman: "Star Trek: Discovery," "Short Treks," "Star Trek: Picard," "Star Trek: Lower Decks," "Star Trek: Prodigy," and "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds." There was even a brief period when all of those shows were in production simultaneously. As of this writing, a TV movie called "Section 31" is due in the early months of 2025, and "Starfleet Academy" is in production. That's more trekking than we had in the 1990s.
Of course, the franchise has scaled back in recent years. All of the above series, save "Strange New Worlds," have come to an end, and it seems that the franchise aims to be a lot more modest going forward.
As the sole survivor, "Strange New Worlds" is one of the better choices to carry the torch for the property.

Warning: Spoilers For Star Trek: Lower Decks' Series Finale - "The New Next Generation"
Star Trek: Lower Decks' finale promoted the USS Cerritos' First Officer to Captain, which elevates Jerry O'Connell's Star Trek character a rank above his wife, Rebecca Romijn. O'Connell and Romijn, who are happily married, held the unique distinction of both playing First Officers in Star Trek. Jerry voiced Commander Jack Ransom for all five seasons of Star Trek: Lower Decks, while Rebecca embodies Number One Aka Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Commander Ransom's rise to Captain has been a low-key story throughout Star Trek: Lower Decks' five seasons. Initially disliked as an uber jock Number One, Commander Ransom was seen through the eyes of his Lower Decker nemesis, Ensign (now Lieutenant) Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome). In Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5, however, Ransom's unorthodox style as a First Officer was proven to be effective.

For five seasons, Jerry O'Connell has voiced Commander Jack Ransom on Star Trek: Lower Decks, and he's preparing for his final voyage as First Officer of the USS Cerritos. Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 is the final season of creator Mike McMahan's animated comedy on Paramount+. Star Trek: Lower Decks' series finale streams on Thursday, December 19, on Paramount+.
Commander Jack Ransom had the inevitable job of overseeing Lieutenant Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), but Ransom and Mariner arrived at a better working relationship after she accepted her promotion and new responsibilities. As Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 continued, Ransom took an interest in Lieutenant Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) as well as using his unorthodox methods as First Officer to hone the Cerritos' other lower deckers into working together as Starfleet Officers.

Throughout the history of Star Trek, two rules have always been the key for each and every show. Have a captain, and have a ship. That has adjusted, slightly with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. After all, Benjamin Sisko started off as a commander and they were on a space station. But, it's close enough. Every show after has followed the same path, until Star Trek: Discovery.
There, the main character was an insurrectionist, but hey, they had a ship. And like Sisko in Deep Space Nine, the main character of Discovery (Michael Burnham) eventually became a captain. Ok, so things are roughly the same.
Then, enter Lower Decks, who turned the whole thing upside down. Gone were the focus on the senior officers, the true heartbeat of the ship, and the brains that make things fly. In were, well, not them. Less impressive officers are goofing around and doing...

Majel Barrett Roddenberry made a lasting impact on Star Trek. One of the most visible ways she did so was through her numerous roles across various iterations of the franchise. Although Barrett's personal contributions ended after the posthumous release of 2009's Star Trek film, the legacies of many of her roles have been carried on in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
So far, Strange New Worlds has brought back three of Barrett's roles: Number One (Rebecca Romijn), Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) and the voice of the Enterprise computer (Alex Kapp). Although it may seem odd to include the voice of the computer on that list, that is actually the "character" Barrett portrayed the most, and Alex Kapp manages to keep the same general "sound."
Given that Strange New Worlds is a prequel to the original Star Trek from 1966, it is no surprise that the Majel Barrett characters featured are her roles from Tos.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 can pay off a romance between two USS Enterprise officers that was first teased 59 years ago. As a new Star Trek show about the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is already paying off the very first version of Star Trek. In 1965, the first Star Trek pilot, "The Cage", starred Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike, Leonard Nimoy as Spock, and Majel Barrett-Roddenberry as Number One; now all three of those characters have been reimagined for a modern audience.
Anson Mount's Captain Pike is a strong, compassionate leader dedicated to a personal code of ethics and the welfare of his crew. Haunted by knowledge of the future accident that will doom him to a locked-in state, Pike is able to risk his life and his career in support of Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn)also known as Number One.

A new glimpse at Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has come out of New York Comic Con. The Paramount+ show is a prequel to the original series, following the exploits of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, which includes younger versions of iconic characters Spock (Ethan Peck) and Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding). Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, which is set to premiere in 2025, will not be the last, as the live-action show has already been renewed for season 4 as well.
At New York Comic Con, Paramount+ shared a new clip from an upcoming episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3. The three-minute clip opens in the middle of a high-octane space battle where Pike consults his team as to the best course of action. In addition to jamming the comms of the attacking fleet, they plan to disguise a tracking...

Number One's (Rebecca Romijn) backstory on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds seems partly inspired by a backstory conceived by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry 60 years ago. Majel was the original actor to portray Number One in Star Trek's 1964 pilot, "The Cage," which was rejected by NBC. Number One was the First Officer of the USS Enterprise commanded by Captain Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter), and she was cool, logical, and emotionless - traits that would be given to Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) when Gene Roddenberry revamped "The Cage" into Star Trek: The Original Series.
60 years later, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is essentially the show "The Cage" would have been, but updated for the 21st century. Number One is part of Strange New Worlds' main cast and leadership triumvirate along with Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and Lieutenant Spock (Ethan Peck). Captain Christopher Pike had two instances in Star Trek where he wanted to quit being Captain of the USS Enterprise. Pike was originally portrayed by Jeffrey Hunter in Star Trek's original, rejected pilot, "The Cage." Sean Kenney portrayed a grievously injured Fleet Captain Pike in Star Trek: The Original Series' "The Menagerie." Over 50 years later, Captain Pike returned to Star Trek canon when he was played by Anson Mount in Star Trek: Discovery season 2. Mount's popularity led to his receiving his own spinoff about Captain Pike's voyages aboard the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Star Trek's "The Cage" was overhauled to become Star Trek: The Original Series, with Jeffrey Hunter's Captain Pike replaced by a brand-new leading man, William Shatner's Captain James T. Kirk. However, "The Cage" established much of the basic foundation of Star Trek, where the Captain of the Enterprise was in...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds takes place in the mid-23rd century, and here's how it slots in relative to Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: Discovery. Strange New Worlds is the third Star Trek series set in the 23rd century, which is also home to the first two seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: The Original Series, and the six Star Trek movies starring Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his Starship Enterprise crew. Although Star Trek: Enterprise was the first Star Trek prequel series, it depicted the voyages of Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) and the Nx-01 in the 22nd century, about a hundred years before Strange New Worlds.
The origins of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds go all the way back to the first Star Trek pilot, "The Cage," which was rejected by NBC in 1964. "The Cage" introduced Captain Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter...

The MCU is gearing up to introduce the Mutants, something we’ve known since Disney acquired Fox. While you could argue that the Mutants have already made a few brief appearances, the X-Men themselves haven’t yet entered the MCU.
Although their full debut is still some time away, Marvel has promised a major introduction in the future.
Even though we don’t know all the details, it’s clear that Feige and Marvel are taking their time to get it right. The X-Men’s arrival in the MCU will be a major moment and will shape the franchise for years to come.
Given the importance of this debut, fans are understandably anxious about who Marvel will cast. With an already-established X-Men universe, comparisons between the old and new casts are inevitable.

The MCU will soon welcome the Mutants. This is nothing new, of course, as we have known this since Disney acquired Fox. You may argue that the Mutants have already made multiple appearances in the MCU, but the X-Men haven’t. Although it will take some time for them to do so, we have been promised a significant debut in the future.
Now, even if we are unaware of all the specifics, we are confident that Feige and Marvel want to do this correctly because the X-Men’s MCU debut will be significant and will influence the franchise for years to come.
With that in mind, it’s easy to see why fans are anxious about Marvel’s casting choices. The X-Men already have an established fictional universe, so comparisons with the MCU version are inevitable. While we still have no idea who will be cast, Reddit user Time-Classroom-2442 has...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds can never repeat a mistake made by Star Trek: The Original Series. Strange New Worlds is a prequel to Tos, with the voyages of Captain Christopher Pike's (Anson Mount) Starship Enterprise taking place about 5-6 years before Captain James T. Kirk's (William Shatner) in Star Trek: The Original Series. Strange New Worlds honors Star Trek's classic format with episodic episodes involving a new planet and alien problem of the week. However, the Enterprise crew's character development is serialized as they grow, learn, and evolve.
Star Trek: The Original Series' classic season 1 episode, "The Devil in the Dark," has the unfortunate distinction of having no speaking parts for female characters. "The Devil in the Dark" involves the mystery of why a creature called a Horta was killing miners on the planet Janus VI. NBC even noticed the lack of female speaking roles, and...

The best Rebecca Romijn movies and TV shows feature an impressive list of genre films that make her one of the most recognizable faces in entertainment. Romijn got her start as a fashion model in Paris and the United States, which led to her earning the role of Mystique in the first X-Men movie. She was impressive with this debut major film role, which allowed her to start picking up more work in both movies and television shows as she quickly became a star.

I hope Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and Captain Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano) don't break up in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3. Of course, this is assuming Batel survives her infection by the Gorn at the end of Strange New Worlds season 2. Last seen in a protective medical bubble in sick bay, Captain Batel is relying on Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) to find a miracle cure for the Gorn eggs in Marie's body threatening to burst forth and kill her. But if Batel and Pike make it through this Gorn crisis, I sincerely hope their romance continues.
Captain Marie Batel is one of the first new characters introduced in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Marie is first seen with Christopher Pike in Strange New Worlds' series premiere when he is contemplating retiring from Starfleet. The Captain of the USS Cayuga, Batel is a welcome recurring presence on Strange New Worlds.

More of Rebecca Romjin as Number One is my number one wish for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3. Also known as Lt. It's widely accepted among Trekkies that no "Star Trek" series starts with its best foot forward. Almost every single series, from the 1960s all the way up to the Paramount+ era, has a rocky first season, presenting clumsy storytelling and strange character conceits that many Trekkies look back on with a wince. Generally speaking, a Trek series doesn't hit its stride until about season three.
I will hasten to note that even when Trek shows are struggling through their "bad" seasons, they usually still feature strong characters and a dynamic setting, so a curious viewer will not have to endure years of bad TV before it gets good. They'll just have to endure some awkward writing until it gets excellent. If one wants to watch "Star Trek: The Next Generation," one could simply start with season 3, and then ask a Trekkie friend to recommend vital episodes from seasons one and two.

Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) changed a lot between the end of Star Trek: Discovery season 2 and the start of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Captain Pike was re-introduced in Star Trek: Discovery season 2, along with Lieutenant Spock (Ethan Peck), and Number One (Rebecca Romijn). The Starship Enterprise trio proved to be so popular, Star Trek fans clamored for Pike, Spock, and Number One to get their own spinoff. It should be stated right up front that the below list is not meant to be taken as a commentary on the strength of certain characters, the talents of the actors playing them, or the quality of the show from which they hail. Indeed, most of them come from legitimately great TV shows and/or are played by very talented people. Some of them may even be among the greatest characters in "Star Trek," and I do not mean to suggest, even for a moment, that they should be removed from the franchise or altered in any way.

Anson Mount recalls recording Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' opening monologue while William Shatner was actually in space. As the Captain of the Starship Enterprise in Strange New Worlds, Mount is the latest to voice over Star Trek's classic opening speech, "Space... the final frontier..." over the show's opening credits. As fate would have it, Mount recorded the monologue on October 13, 2021, the day William Shatner went into orbit aboard Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin Ns-18 space flight.

Starfleet's flagship, the USS Enterprise, is a coveted prize for hijackers due to its status as a powerful and advanced starship. Various characters, from Spock to Khan, have hijacked the Enterprise for personal reasons, testing the crew's resilience and diplomatic skills. While hijackings may cause initial tension, the Enterprise crew often resolves conflicts through negotiation, reflecting the ethos of unity in Star Trek.
More than a handful of times, Star Trek's original USS Enterprise has been hijacked from under the command of Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) or Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount). LA'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong), and Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) become Vulcans. Pike's already famously tall hair takes on shocking new dimensions as a Vulcan.

Star Trek on Paramount+ thrives with Discovery spinoffs like Strange New Worlds, Starfleet Academy, and Section 31. Animated Star Trek faces an uncertain future as Lower Decks and Prodigy conclude their runs, leaving fans hoping for more. Discovery's success continues because Paramount+'s next 3 Star Trek shows and movie are Discovery spinoffs.
Star Trek is scaling down on Paramount+, but all three scheduled live-action TV series and movies are spinoffs of Star Trek: Discovery. Recently ending after 5 seasons, Star Trek: Discovery reignited the Star Trek TV franchise after 12 years. In 2017 and 2018, Discovery's success served as a cornerstone of the fledgling CBS All-Access streaming service, which later became Paramount+. Thanks to Discovery, a new era of Star Trek streaming series began.

All good husbands support their wives, but Jerry O’Connell has taken it to a different level entirely, confirming that he has enough figures of Mystique – the X-Men character Rebecca Romijn played across three movies – to warrant an entire shelf. And no, she doesn’t love it.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Jerry O’Connell revealed that his collection has become part of tradition any time he travels to a convention. “My wife was Mystique in X-Men, and whenever I come to a con, I look for obscure, unique Mystique figures and figurines. And we collect them and I put them up…So if anyone has a line on [a cool figure]…I put it up, it’s mine, and my wife is a little embarrassed by it, but it’s my Mystique shelf.” But before you go getting any ideas in your head, O’Connell did confirm, “I don’t do weird things with the figurines,...

Jerry O'Connell Reveals Mystique Collection That Embarrasses His Wife Rebecca Romijn - Main Image
Jerry O'Connell recently admitted that he has a collection of figures of his wife Rebecca Romijn's X-Men character Mystique.

Unlike her X-Men co-star Hugh Jackman, there are no official plans yet to bring back Romijn in the role, but fans would love to see her reprise her iconic character again one more time while the MCU is still in Multiverse Saga.
