This year’s ABFF, presented by Nice Crowd, will be held in Miami Beach June 11-15, followed by an online segment June 16-23 on ABFF Play.

Gavin Newsom today announced an initiative to help rebuild Los Angeles after the recent fires. Dubbed LA Rises, the effort will be led by high-profile sports and entertainment leaders, including Magic Johnson, Casey Wasserman and Dodgers Chairman Mark Walter. For over 60 years, the Presidential Medal of Freedom has been given out as the highest honor a civilian can get. Joining U.S. President Joe Biden’s list this year – his final in office – are some of our own favorite performers, including Michael J. Fox and Denzel Washington.

The official White House website noted the philanthropic works of Michael J. Fox and Denzel Washington – those in the fight against Parkinson’s and serving as a national spokesman for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, respectively – as key reasons for receiving the Medal of Freedom. Both have continued to fight the good fight for decades, so it is pretty amazing to see them recognized on this prestigious level. Notably, Denzel Washington was set to receive the Medal of Freedom in 2022 but could not attend due to contracting Covid-19.

Among those receiving the Medal of Freedom are well-known names from Hollywood, sports, business, and other fields.

Some of the biggest names include actors Denzel Washington and Michael J. Fox, as well as musician Bono. The feature, which starred Denzel Washington as the civil rights leader, was “shut down” by Warner Brothers due to budget concerns. One particular sticking point the studio had, according to Lee, was why the auteur wanted to film on location in Saudi Arabia for the Mecca scenes. A second statue of the late Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, depicted courtside with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, was unveiled today in a private ceremony held outside Crypto.com Arena.

The statue is expected to be available for public viewing starting Saturday.

Kobe and Gianna Bryant died along with seven other people in a Calabasas, California, helicopter crash on Jan. 26, 2020.

The statue shows the pair sitting in courtside seats, as in the photo above that served as inspiration. Angel wings spread out behind the pair, who are encircled by purple and gold flowers. A gold plaque in front of them includes a quote from Kobe, saying, “Gianna is a beast. She’s better than I was at her age. She’s got it. Girls are amazing. I would have five more girls if I could. I’m a girl dad.”
