All character details remain under wraps, as does the film’s plot. Inspired by Mattel’s die-cast toy vehicle line of the same name, the project hails from Skydance and Mattel Films. Stoll is part of an expanding cast that also includes Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, Arturo Castro and Danai Gurira.

Update: Variety reports that a federal jury ruled unanimously in favor of M. Night Shyamalan and Apple in the copyright lawsuit filed against them by The Truth About Emanuel writer/director Francesca Gregorini. While testifying last Wednesday, Shyamalan said that neither he nor anyone else involved with Servant had seen or heard about The Truth About Emanuel before Gregorini filed the lawsuit. After saying this was all “clearly, 100%, a misunderstanding,” Shyamalan added, “This accusation is the exact opposite of everything I do and everything I try to represent. I would have never allowed it. None of the people that I work with would ever do anything like that.“

Hailed as one of the modern horror maestros, M. Night Shyamalan is facing a million-dollar lawsuit for copyright infringement. Although the suit was initially filed in 2020, after Shyamalan’s series Servant started airing on Apple TV+, it was thrown out of court within months by a federal judge.

However, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals revived the same in 2022, and the legal battle ensued. The first trial took place on January 14th, where Shyamalan was presented which brought the case back to the limelight.

The plaintiff, Francesca Gregorini, an Italian-born independent movie director filed the case accusing Shyamalan of adapting his series from her 2013 movie The Truth About Emanuel. However, the defense attorney claimed that Gregorini’s claims are unfounded and she is seeking credit for something she had no involvement in.

In 2020, Italian director Francesca Gregorini sued M. Night Shyamalan and Apple TV+ for copyright infringement. The lawsuit alleges that the Shyamalan-directed series Servant, which ran for four seasons on the streaming platform, infringes on elements from her 2013 movie The Truth About Emanuel. On Tuesday, the case seeking $81 million went to trial in Riverside, California and a set of jurors received a binge-watching assignment as part of their duties.

The jury will watch the first three episodes of Servant, which premiered in 2019. The series follows a couple reeling from the death of their son.

If you’re an avid follower of Shyamalan’s work you are likely aware that the famous director had a show on AppleTV+ titled ‘Servant’ which ran for 4 seasons from 2019 to 2023. ‘Servant’ was a psychological horror TV show created by Tony Basgallop and produced by M. Night Shyamalan.

The series focused on Dorothy and Sean Turner, a couple who hire a nanny, Leanne, to care for their baby, Jericho. However, their child is dead, and Dorothy believes the doll is her real son, leading to a multitude of strange events that reveal dark secrets both about the family and Leanne.

Director M. Night Shyamalan went on trial on Tuesday over allegations that he copied from an independent film to make the Apple TV+ show “Servant.”

Francesca Gregorini, an Italian-born director, is suing Shyamalan and Apple for $81 million, alleging that the show stole key elements from her 2013 movie, “The Truth About Emanuel.”

Her attorney, Patrick Arenz, showed jurors clips of both projects during his opening statement on Tuesday in federal court in Riverside, Calif. He argued that both depict a delusional mother who cares for a doll as though it is a real baby, and a nanny who is complicit in the delusion.

“This is a simple case,” Arenz told the jury. “There would be no ‘Servant’ without ‘Emanuel.'”

Netflix is losing a Top Gun-esque movie starring Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel. While the streaming service is known for original movies and TV shows including Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, Wednesday, Carry-On, and Leave the World Behind, their library is also populated with titles that are licensed from other companies. Rose Byrne (“Bridesmaids”) and Meghann Fahy (“The White Lotus”) have taken on Peacock’s limited drama series “The Good Daughter” following Jessica Biel’s exit. The two will be the lead stars, two sisters named Samantha and Charlotte Quinn.

Byrne will executive produce the series, and Fahy will step in to play Biel’s former role as Charlotte Quinn. As TheWrap previously reported, Karin Slaughter will pen all the episodes, as well as executive produce alongside Byrne and Made Up Stories’ Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Casey Haver.

Apple Original Films Matchbox movie is circling a popular Golden Globe and Emmy nominated actor to star opposite John Cena. Produced in collaboration with Skydance and Mattel Films, the upcoming movie is based on the iconic line of children's toy cars that first took the world by storm in the 1950s. Plans for a live-action movie based on the Matchbox car brand from toy giant Mattel were first announced in 2022, predating the release of 2023s Barbie. Exclusive: Jessica Biel is in talks to star alongside John Cena in Matchbox a new, live-action feature film from Apple Original Films, Skydance and Mattel Films that will be directed by Sam Hargrave. The new film is based on a screenplay by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper.

The film will be inspired by Mattel’s iconic real-world die-cast toy vehicle line of the same name. The legendary Matchbox brand was invented in 1953 by automotive enthusiast Jack Odell to solve a challenge for his daughter, who was allowed to take a toy to school only if it was small enough to fit in a matchbox. When his daughter’s school friends too began clamouring for a “matchbox car,” an iconic brand was born. The high standards of authenticity for Matchbox die-cast cars have driven the brand for over 70 years and generations of fans. Today, two Matchbox cars are sold every second somewhere around the world.

On Monday, Nov. 18, Apple TV+ announced a new 10-episode series adaptation of “Cape Fear,” executive produced by and starring Javier Bardem as Max Cady, a killer who gets out of prison and haunts the lives of married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden. Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese are also onboard as executive producers.

The series is based on the 1957 novel “The Executioners,” which was previously adapted into the 1962 “Cape Fear” starring Robert Mitchum as Max Cady and Gregory Peck as Sam Bowden. That film was remade in 1991 by Scorsese, whose version starred Robert De Niro in an Oscar-nominated performance as Cady. Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange played the Bowdens, while Juliette Lewis earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nom for her role as the Bowdens’ teenage daughter Danielle.
