Originally published in 1918, Edgar Rice Burroughs’ The Land That Time Forgot has inspired multiple adaptations, most notably Kevin Connor’s 1974 film. Now, the story returns to the screen courtesy of The Asylum, who previously tackled the tale in 2009. Can this new adaptation deliver a mix of nostalgia and modern sensibilities, while staying true to the spirit of the original novel?
The movie opens with a tense and chaotic sequence as the crew of a Russian submarine launches a surprise attack on an Australian naval vessel in the Bering Sea. The reasons behind the attack as well as the Aussie’s presence so far from home remain unclear, but the ship is destroyed.
Among the survivors are Lt. Tim Olson, Bradley, and Tyler. They manage...

Tonight brings the first full moon of 2025, and it happens to be the Wolf Moon. Not so coincidentally, this Friday brings the release of Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man. That means this week’s streaming picks are themed accordingly; we’re howling at the full moon over werewolves.
Only this time, we’re venturing beyond many of the essentials like An American Werewolf in London (Pluto TV), The Howling (VOD), Dog Soldiers, or Ginger Snaps to spotlight lesser celebrated lyncanthropes.
The five werewolf movies offer everything from foundational classics to gonzo ’70s action and everything in between. Here’s where you can stream them this week.

The Vampire and the Vigilante, which will be released on October 22, 2024, is a fascinating addition to the contemporary horror genre. This film tells a story that feels both classic and refreshingly new. It was directed by Rene Perez, who is known for his ability to combine genre conventions with creative plots.
Natalie is a young woman in a terrible situation at the story’s center. She is desperately trying to get money for her grandmother’s life-saving medicine. Without realizing it, she is caught in a dangerous web made by the Siren, a predatory siren, and the Master, a cruel vampire in charge of her.
We meet Gabriel, the vigilante, as Natalie becomes the next target in this scary game of cat and mouse. His never-ending quest to eradicate evil from the world is intertwined with Natalie’s fate, creating a narrative full of tension and moral complexity.

War of the Worlds: Extinction is a followup to The Asylum’s 2021 film War of the Worlds: Annihilation, but in the opening montage, however, the film flips the script entirely, revealing that rather than Earth being invaded it was us doing the invading, attacking and trying to colonize the planet Emios after we made Earth uninhabitable.
Almost immediately after that montage, we see the one returning character, General Skuller leading his troops against the Earth forces, apparently in defiance of orders to stand down and welcome what are referred to as refugees from Earth. Any chance of that happening vanishes when he sees his daughter vaporized by an enemy craft while trying to lead some of those refugees to safety.

Image Source: Amazon Expectations ran high when Streets of Fire was released 40 years ago. It was co-written and directed by Walter Hill, who’d just come off the massive success of the Eddie Murphy vehicle 48 Hrs. It was a music-driven film at a time when similar movies, like Footloose, were doing big business. And yet, when it was released early in the summer of 1984, Streets of Fire flamed out at the box office. Over the years, though, the movie has morphed into a cult classic. Michael Paré, whose career was just getting off the ground while he was filming Streets of Fire, talked about the movie at an Njhc March 2023 panel, and he recalled how some of the things he was asked to do seemed a bit overwhelming. “It’s Rear Window… with a twist” is always a fun marketing hook for a horror movie – my personal favorite is 1981’s Road Games, which is essentially Rear Window on the road – and the latest film to put a new spin on the Alfred Hitchcock classic is this year’s 9 Windows.
It’s Rear Window… for the screenlife generation. Exclusively watch the trailer below.
9 Windows will release October 15 on digital and cable VOD.
Written and directed by Lou Simón, the upcoming screenlife horror movie stars William Forsythe, Michael Paré, Diana Garle, Christopher Millan and Jason Hignite.

Eighteen months later, Liza is unable to walk and lives alone after her parents’ death. Feeling responsible, Liza spends her days trolling vloggers on a local website. Late one night,...

This year gifts us the 40th anniversary of the major motion picture “Streets of Fire.” In 1984, Walter Hill’s ambitious “rock & roll fable” sported a killer soundtrack and an all-star cast, how could it possibly have failed? Oh, right, it was released against both “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” and “Star Trek III: The Search for Spock” (the summer of 1984 was stacked). And that aforementioned all-star cast? Including Diane Lane, Willem Dafoe, Rick Moranis, Bill Paxton, and Amy Madigan? None of them were famous yet.
But, over the past 40 years, Hill’s “Streets of Fire” has developed quite a robust following. (In 1984, its biggest cultural footprint was probably the song “I Can Dream About You,” performed by fictional group The Sorels in the film and Dan Hartman in reality, which peaked at number six on Billboard’s Hot 100 and got extensive play on MTV.)

Image Source: Amazon Movie enthusiasts, fasten your seatbelts and get ready to go into a cinematic from 1984 called Streets of Fire. This isn’t your average action movie or Broadway musical—rather, it’s a fantastic mashup of the two, all encased in a neon-drenched shell of pure 80s crazy. Seriously, this movie is one-of-a-kind. Picture it: a city that looks like a jukebox exploded, where brooding hero Tom Cody (Michael Paré) must rescue his rockstar ex-girlfriend (Diane Lane) from a leather-clad biker gang led by the devilishly charming Willem Dafoe. Oh, and did we mention Rick Moranis is the hilariously awkward manager caught in the middle of this whole mess? It’s basically the 80s dream team, and director Walter Hill (the director 48 Hours) was clearly having a blast throwing every genre into the blender. Critics Hated It? We Don’t Care! Yeah, the critics weren’t exactly thrilled with this one.

The classless practice of traumatic profiteering is alive and well in Thomas Walton’s micro-budget slasher Camp Pleasant Lake. We’ve become a society obsessed with gnarly true crime documentaries and podcasts, lifting infamous serial killers to celebrity status. As superfans once wrote letters to Charles Manson in prison, studios now churn out streaming programs about despicable icons like Bundy and Dahmer to capitalize on trending viewership. Camp Pleasant Lake is an intriguing commentary on selling someone else’s grief and loss for your next payday, but at no point does Walton’s execution do his “Horror LARPing” concept justice.
The film takes place at Camp Echo Lake, where new owners Rick (Michael Paré) and Darlene Rutherford (Maritza Brikisak) have reopened as an immersive Halloween experience. For $10,000, attendees are treated to “Camp of Terror,” an all-inclusive murder party that ties back to a horrible crime committed on the grounds 20 years prior.

“They say you cross paths with at least 20 killers in your lifetime and don’t even know it…” This line of text opens the latest feature from writer/director Thomas Walton, intending to deliver a sense of foreboding regarding what is to come. Camp Pleasant Lake unfolds on the grounds of a revitalized campsite that a couple have transformed into an interactive horror experience.
The camp was previously the location of a young girl’s disappearance, which occurred at a similar time to her parent’s murders. This unfortunate event is a selling point for the horror camp, as its opening coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the mentioned tragedy. A bunch of horror LARPers meet grisly ends in the micro-budget summer camp slasher, Camp Pleasant Lake. Boasting a small selection of familiar faces from genre cinema and a mystifying lead performance from Jerry Maguire’s Jonathan Lipnicki, who hams it up like a Christmas dinner, Camp Pleasant Lake is a decidedly low brow feature, though not without its bright spots. Michael Paré and Maritza Brikisak are Rick & Darlene Rutherford, the new owners of the cursed camp at Echo Lake. Twenty years ago, the camp was the site of a heinous double murder and the disappearance of Jasper and Echo Meadows. Today the Rutherfords have decided to turn the place into a kind of tragedy fantasy camp, with attendees paying big bucks to relive the...

Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar very much wants to be one of the plethora of low-budget 1970s knock offs of Star Wars riding the comet tail of that phenomenon. It’s just not bad enough to be lumped in with Bartle Beyond the Stars or the 3-D mess of Spacehunters. Nor is it good enough to be a thoughtful low-budget meditation on the soul. It falls in between and is quickly forgotten the moment you turn off the DVD of the 2022 release, out now from Uncork’d Entertainment.
Late in the 30th century, mankind has somehow managed to survive the contemporary mess we’ve made of ourselves and has even managed to find a way to preserve the human soul, reducing it to a blue goo. Camp Pleasant Lake: "DeskPop Entertainment will release Thomas Walton's refreshingly indie new horror film Camp Pleasant Lake in select cinemas and on VOD February 27th! The picture, which stars 90s screen icon Jonathan Lipnicki alongside a bevvy of genre film icons, is a loving throwback to the thrilling, violent summer camp slasher films of the 1980s.
In Camp Pleasant Lake, Rick and Darlene Rutherford breathe life into the eerie remnants of an old campsite, unaware of its dark past. Strange occurrences haunt the area, mirroring the tragedies of the old camp, where two decades earlier, a young girl was kidnapped and her parents brutally murdered. Amidst chilling atmospheres and long-forgotten secrets, the couple grapples with a horrifying revelation—they are entwined in the camp's history. And as the shadows of the past collide with the present, the Rutherfords must confront the haunting histories of a sinister crime.

Lifetime films traffic in a certain kind of narrative, namely infidelity, deception, dark romance, and occasionally murder. Tall, Dark, and Dangerous tackles at least three of these qualities, which is appropriate given the film is set partially around Valentine’s Day, a holiday ripe for sensational, slightly ridiculous narratives.
Following an underwhelming opening sequence in which Mercedes (Griselle Escotto) is menaced by a man on the phone before her house is broken into, the main narrative introduces quintessential Lifetime protagonist Alice Miles (Jamie Bernadette).
Alice is smart, wealthy, and, most importantly for Tall, Dark, and Dangerous, bad at relationships. When the film opens, Alice is promoted to partner at her law firm by her boss Ed (Eric Roberts), something her overly invested Woc work bestie Jane (Alana Walker) wants her to celebrate. Considering the rapidly approaching holiday and Alice’s lack of personal life, Jane boldly forces Alice to “shoot...

The press release for Wanted Man describes writer/director/star Dolph Lundgren’s character like this, “Johansen is an ageing detective, whose outdated policing methods have given the department a recent public relations problem.” Those outdated methods include beating up a suspect while making what could be taken as racist remarks, all in full view of a news crew.
In case that isn’t enough to let us know what he thinks of his neighbours to the South, we get to see him hang out at a strip club with some buddies, including Brenner, Hilts and Tinelli trading comments about how disgusting Mexicans are. And to cap off the night, he has to be stopped from attacking another Mexican in the parking lot.

One week after the anticipated season 11 return of Vanderpump Rules, Tom Sandoval will mark his return to the Lifetime cinematic universe with a movie that — like his Bravo unscripted series — focuses on a relationship marred by deception.
On Thursday, Lmn (Lifetime Movie Network) announced its upcoming slate of original films for the first three months of 2024, including Tall, Dark and Dangerous, set to air Feb. 8. Sandoval appears in the thriller that debuts just one week after Vanderpump Rules returns with the continued aftermath to the Scandoval controversy, which centered on last year’s revelation that Sandoval cheated on longtime partner Ariana Madix with Raquel Leviss.
Tall, Dark and Dangerous is a Valentine’s Day-themed movie about Alice (Jamie Bernadette) realizing that Chris (Matthew Pohlkamp), the seemingly perfect guy she met on a dating app, is not the person he seems and actually stole the identity of his former roommate, played by Sandoval.

Inthe 1995 "The X-Files" episode "Død Kalm," Agents Mulder and Scully (David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) trek out to the U.S.S. Ardent, an American destroyer frozen in a remote area off the coast of Norway. The ship had recently been abandoned by its crew as a mysterious environmental condition had caused them to age rapidly; although in their 20s, they looked like they were in their mid-60s. When Mulder and Scully arrive on the Ardent, they find that the remaining crew on board has become mummified and that the ship's hull has already begun to rust through. Before too long, Mulder and Scully begin aging rapidly as well. Mulder theorizes that they have encountered a "wrinkle in time," and that the Ardent might be going through something similar to the notorious Philadelphia Experiment of 1943. Scully later finds that their advanced aging might have something to do with the ship's freshwater supply.

To save his job, he is sent to Mexico to extradite a female witness to the murders of two DEA agents. Once there, he finds...

"If you wanna fight with the wolves, you gotta be a wolf." Sure, why not, that kind of makes sense? Quiver Distribution has revealed an official trailer for Wanted Man, the latest action thriller film directed by the legendary Swedish actor Dolph Lundgren. This isn't his first time directing - he's made a few other action films over the last 20 years, most of which have already been forgotten. This new film follows a police officer who must retrieve an eyewitness from Mexico and escort her across the border after a cartel shooting leaves several DEA agents dead, then he must decide who to trust when they discover that the attack was executed by American forces. Lundgren also stars as Detective Johansen, with a cast including Kelsey Grammer, Michael Paré, Christina Villa, Roger Cross, and Bourke Floyd. Not sure why exactly Lundgren feels like he needs to tell this story in this way,...

Closing out the first night of this year’s Saskatoon Fantastic Film Festival, The Puppetman tossed me a nugget of nostalgia early in the film when the leads make a booze run and I recognized the upside-down sign of Buffalo’s On the Rox Liquors, where many an eventful weekend of my own started.
But that doesn’t come until after we see a man brutally murder his wife while his young daughter cowers, caged in a dark closet. He seems to be struggling with himself as he beats her with a frying pan and stabs her. And that is his defence in court, it wasn’t him, someone or something else was controlling his body. It doesn’t get him acquitted, but it does get him a nickname,...

It’s not often that a movie which made less than $5 million at the box office will still be talked about four decades later, but Eddie and the Cruisers fits the bill. Despite the fact that it was a box office disaster, the film spawned a hit soundtrack, had a pair of hit singles, and became a cult hit through cable airings and home video. When the film was being shot, Michael Paré was a young actor working on The Greatest American Hero, and Eddie and the Cruisers was his big screen debut. Speaking at a fan event, Paré said he was as shocked as anybody else when the film started to take on a whole new life.
