Irish actor Colm Meaney (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, In the Land of Saints & Sinners) will receive the Irish Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement for his “outstanding contribution to the Irish and international screen industry,” the Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) said Friday.

This time, Ana de Armas will star as Eve Macarro, a ballerina who becomes an assassin. The film introduces new twists while keeping some familiar faces, like Ian McShane as Winston.

At Ccxp in Brazil, McShane and de Armas spoke with Collider about their characters. When asked about Winston’s relationship with Eve, McShane teased a deeper backstory.

The first three movies in the John Wick franchise are preparing to head to a new streaming home. After it debuted in 2014, the franchise has exploded into a genuine media giant. Alongside John Wick's various spin-offs, The Continental, Ballerina, and Under the High Table, the movie has already earned three sequels and a fourth that is set to release in the coming years.

It famously stars Keanu Reeves as the reluctant assassin Wick, while he attempts to butcher the High Table. The intense action scenes, compelling characters, and detailed world-building have contributed to its international acclaim, though it has never managed to win any major awards. While Reeves remains the undisputed star, other characters have earned attention through the spin-offs and more are poised to fill in this original world. Once we reached the late 80s young Nathaniel was fully immersed in Oscar passions so there are less glaring omissions in films screened. Why am I talking about myself in the third person? Nevertheless 1987 is now so long ago that I really wonder about my initial take on so many of the movies. For instance, a lot of people I respect think very highly of The Dead – and it even gets a very loving homage in Almodovar’s current film The Room Next Door. I remember it as a high minded, intermittently potent drama but also kind of dull. It’s probable I was too young for it at the time (I did see it in theaters…and went specifically because Anjelica Huston had won the Oscar the previous year for 1985’s Prizzi’s Honor so I was in the flushes of new fandom). But we’re jumping ahead of ourselves.

Lionsgate has brought online the extended look for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina that was shown at Ccxp in São Paulo, Brazil over the weekend.

Stars Ana de Armas, Ian McShane, Norman Reedus and director Len Wiseman took on the iconic Thunder Stage on Sunday for an electric finale panel at Ccxp.

The action-packed panel kicked off with a spectacular dance and stunt performance by local artists followed by a special conversation with the cast and director. Ana, Ian, Norman and Len were welcomed by a wildly enthusiastic crowd, with cheering fans holding up signs for the cast, and thunderous applause for the new footage.

It’s got to convince potential audiences that a visit to the cinema will guarantee them the same level of high-quality action and thrills that they’d get from a mainline John Wick movie, and it’s been bumpy up to this point.

Far be it from me to talk down a movie’s chances before it arrives, but the public perception of reshoots often leads to the assumption that a film’s in trouble. The extensive reshooting of Ballerina means that chatter around the film is already focusing on whether it’s doomed or not.

Lionsgate is bringing light in darkness, unveiling a character poster for Ana de Armas’ Eve Macarro, the titular ballerina of the upcoming John Wick spin-off movie, adding to the already peak anticipation for this expansion. Following their Ccxp presentation Sunday, Lionsgate also released a new extended look featurette examining the film.

As you can see on the poster, Eve is tatted up, with one notable phrase standing out above the rest: Lux in Tenebris, which is Latin for Light in Darkness. Ahead of the spin-off’s June 6, 2025 premiere, Lionsgate unveiled a new featurette for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina during a Comic-Con Brazil panel, which was livestreamed on YouTube on Sunday.

The featurette was introduced by Reeves and John Wick director Chad Stahelski in a pre-recorded message. “Today is a big day,” said the latter. “Keanu and I are thrilled to welcome Ana, Norman [Reedus] and [director Len Wiseman] into the world of John Wick. Lionsgate has revealed a new poster and photo featuring Ana de Armas in Ballerina, which will have a Ccxp panel with the cast and director on Sunday, December 8 in Brazil.

The film’s stars, Ana de Armas, Ian McShane and Norman Reedus, along with director Len Wiseman will travel to São Paulo for a special conversation which will also feature never-before-seen footage from the upcoming film.

Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.

The panel, which closes the convention, will be livestreamed. Tune-in to the live panel this Sunday, December 8th at 2:00 p.m. Pst / 5:00 p.m. Est / 7:00 p.m. BST via Lionsgate’s YouTube channel.

Lionsgate will travel to São Paulo for a special panel at pop culture convention Ccxp this weekend that will feature never-before-seen footage of Ballerina, next year’s spinoff movie set in the John Wick Universe. The film’s stars Ana de Armas, Ian McShane and Norman Reedus will attend the Ccxp panel this weekend, along with director Len Wiseman.

The first two episodes of the latest live-action Lucasfilm series are now streaming on Disney+, and within those two episodes, there are some surprising connections to some beloved Disney theme park attractions.

There is something about the dark fantasy movie genre that just isn't easily replicated. While many a fantasy movie has transported audiences to new and expansive worlds with epic stories of big adventures, historically the genre has also been limited by both technology and budgets that restrain movies from achieving the potential of the stories being told.

It was ten years ago today, that the first John Wick hit theaters and began to play.

While the first Keanu Reeves starring, Chad Stahelski directed, and Derek Kolstad written movie flew under the radar at the box office only grossing $43M stateside and $86M worldwide, the R-rated action pic ala the original Austin Powers boomed on home entertainment and mushroomed into a mega franchise across four films for Lionsgate grossing $1.02 billion.

While speaking to Business Insider, John Wick directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch revealed that the project had lost almost $6 million less than a week before production was set to begin.
