John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum producer Basil Iwanyk shares a new explanation about why Winston shoots John at the end of the movie. Directed by franchise veteran Chad Stahelski, the third installment in the hit franchise sees Keanu Reeves return as Wick to fend off an army of assassins after the High Table places a bounty on his head. The John Wick 3 ending memorably features Wick seemingly emerging victorious before Winston (Ian McShane), in a bid to regain control of his Continental hotel, shoots John off a rooftop.
In a new interview with The Direct, Iwanyk, who produced all four films in the franchise, breaks down Winston's decision during the final moments of John Wick 3. The producer provides a more overarching explanation, which includes the general ethos for all characters in the John Wick assassin universe, but also dives deep into the Winston and John dynamic and...

John Wick's Caine spinoff movie receives a major directing update from Donnie Yen, who is returning to reprise his role as the blind assassin.
In an interview with Collider, Yen revealed that he is not only set to reprise his role, but is also in talks to direct the Caine spinoff himself:
I think both the fans, as well as the studio, want this to happen, and we'll see. I don't know. I can only tell you that much. But yes, we are talking, and we are talking intimately. We'll see what happens. But at the same time, I hold responsibility as well as a pressure that I don't want to ruin the franchise. I try to do my best to bring something fresh to the franchise itself. I don't want to bring down the expectations for the fans. I try to do my best, like always.
More to come.

Even in its most buoyant moments, Stephen Frears’s The Grifters retains a palpable, stifling air of desperation and moral rot. The trio of grifters at the center of the 1990 crime thriller are introduced via a visual triptych, in which each of them are donning designer sunglasses and a slick outfit as they ready themselves for their respective cons. But despite their suave appearances, these schemers—Lilly (Anjelica Huston), Roy (John Cuscack), and Myra (Annette Bening)—aren’t living large.
There are no obscenely rich marks, no luxurious locales, no big score that’ll allow them to sail off into the sunset. No, while Lilly skims a little off the top of her employer’s winnings at a horse racetrack, Roy heads to a dive bar for a money swap that nets him a whopping $10 and Myra seduces a jewelry shop owner. Roy later works a similar scam that earns...

Winston’s confirmed role as a mentor and father figure in the upcoming Ballerina spinoff movie makes a popular John Wick fan theory much less likely to come true. Set to be released on June 6, 2025, the spinoff From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is the first official John Wick movie outside the main series. It will star Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a ballerina who’s being trained as an assassin in the ways of the Ruska Roma. It’s being directed by Live Free or Die Hard’s Len Wiseman and written by Rebel Moon’s Shay Hatten.
The Ballerina cast will introduce some new blood to the John Wick universe, like Gabriel Byrne and Norman Reedus. But it’s also bringing back some familiar faces from the previous John Wick movies. Jennifer Jason Leigh came from a showbiz family. Her father was Vic Morrow, a prolific film and TV actor who starred in the series "Combat!" Her mother was Barbara Turner who acted in many TV shows throughout the '50s and '60s, and who wrote the screenplays for "Petulia," "Cujo," "Georgia," and "Pollock." Leigh started attending acting workshops when she was still a teenager, studying with Lee Strasberg. At age 16, she started to land her first professional acting gigs, appearing in an episode of "Baretta," and in the film "The Young Runaways." In 1981, she caught the public's eye playing a young woman battling anorexia in the TV movie "The Best Little Girl in the World," but it wasn't until her role in 1982's "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" that the world took proper notice.

Ballerina's Ana de Armas details how her character differs from John Wick. Ballerina is a John Wick spinoff film that follows the story of a female assassin named Eve Macarro who seeks revenge for her father's death. While John Wick has previously had a spinoff television series with The Continental, Ballerina will be the first feature film spinoff within the franchise, which has thus far included four films. Ballerina features a leading cast including de Armas in the lead role and Keanu Reeves returning as John Wick, with a supporting cast that includes Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Anjelica Houston.
In an interview with Collider, de Armas explains how her Ballerina lead stands out from John Wick. The actor began by noting the similarities between Ballerina and the rest of the John Wick franchise, saying that "there are some trademarks in the style of the fights in John Wick.

The John Wick universe keeps growing, and Ballerina will take us deeper into that world, as we have already confirmed in our earlier reports. This time, Ana de Armas will star as Eve Macarro, a ballerina who becomes an assassin. The film introduces new twists while keeping some familiar faces, like Ian McShane as Winston.
At Ccxp in Brazil, McShane and de Armas spoke with Collider about their characters. When asked about Winston’s relationship with Eve, McShane teased a deeper backstory.
He revealed that Winston knows Eve from before, even saying he knew her parents. He hinted at secrets about Eve that she will uncover later on. Winston’s connection with her goes beyond what’s shown in the movie.
McShane also mentioned that Winston’s mysterious nature would remain intact. Even by the end of the film, viewers won’t learn much more about him:

This June, the John Wick universe expands with the release of ‘Ballerina,’ featuring Ana de Armas in the lead role of Eve Macarro.

In a recent chat with Erick Massoto from Collider at Ccxp in Brazil, de Armas shared insights into her role.

The film explores the background training that shapes assassins, offering glimpses into the lives of characters who blend their artistic and lethal skills.

The first three movies in the John Wick franchise are preparing to head to a new streaming home. After it debuted in 2014, the franchise has exploded into a genuine media giant. Alongside John Wick's various spin-offs, The Continental, Ballerina, and Under the High Table, the movie has already earned three sequels and a fourth that is set to release in the coming years.
It famously stars Keanu Reeves as the reluctant assassin Wick, while he attempts to butcher the High Table. The intense action scenes, compelling characters, and detailed world-building have contributed to its international acclaim, though it has never managed to win any major awards. While Reeves remains the undisputed star, other characters have earned attention through the spin-offs and more are poised to fill in this original world. The first three movies will join Chapter 4 on Hulu on January 1, 2025.
Keanu Reeves' feature film career began in 1986 with the sports movie Youngblood.

Jack Nicholson disappeared from Hollywood after what was an anticlimactic end to one of the greatest film careers of all time with 2010's "How Do You Know?" The movie saw Nicholson play the head of a big firm for which Paul Rudd's George works. If that doesn't sound like the best use of a screen legend, it wasn't. "How Do You Know?" ended up being a star-studded box office flop, with reviewers chastising writer/director James L. Brooks for wasting such impressive talent.
"How Do You Know?" starred Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson but surely the biggest waste was Nicholson himself, especially considering he ended his venerable on-screen career with this movie. By this point, Nicholson didn't need to do anything. In fact, he hadn't needed to do anything since he signed a bonkers deal with Warner Bros. for starring as the Joker in 1989's "Batman" and...

Jack Nicholson seems to have that devil-may-care, too-cool-for-school swagger that makes him seem like he could get away with anything. But even he wasn’t immune to the consequences of bad decisions—especially when it came to cheating on his ex-girlfriend, Anjelica Huston.
The story goes a little something like this: The Shining star, 87, got a very painful wake-up call from Huston after he made the classic mistake of stepping out on her with another woman. And no, it wasn’t a quiet breakup—it was an epic, full-on, real-life drama that could rival any of his movie roles.

Once we reached the late 80s young Nathaniel was fully immersed in Oscar passions so there are less glaring omissions in films screened. Why am I talking about myself in the third person? Nevertheless 1987 is now so long ago that I really wonder about my initial take on so many of the movies. For instance, a lot of people I respect think very highly of The Dead – and it even gets a very loving homage in Almodovar’s current film The Room Next Door. I remember it as a high minded, intermittently potent drama but also kind of dull. It’s probable I was too young for it at the time (I did see it in theaters…and went specifically because Anjelica Huston had won the Oscar the previous year for 1985’s Prizzi’s Honor so I was in the flushes of new fandom). But we’re jumping ahead of ourselves.

Lionsgate has brought online the extended look for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina that was shown at Ccxp in São Paulo, Brazil over the weekend.
Stars Ana de Armas, Ian McShane, Norman Reedus and director Len Wiseman took on the iconic Thunder Stage on Sunday for an electric finale panel at Ccxp.
The action-packed panel kicked off with a spectacular dance and stunt performance by local artists followed by a special conversation with the cast and director. Ana, Ian, Norman and Len were welcomed by a wildly enthusiastic crowd, with cheering fans holding up signs for the cast, and thunderous applause for the new footage.
Ian shared a moving tribute to his former co-star, Lance Reddick, who played Charon in the John Wick franchise. The crowd was also treated to a surprise pre-recorded greeting from Keanu Reeves and producer Chad Stahelski.

Lionsgate has revealed a short teaser for the upcoming John Wick spin-off flick Ballerina, set to release next summer.
Frame it anyway you want, but From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina has a bit of a PR job on its hands. It’s got to convince potential audiences that a visit to the cinema will guarantee them the same level of high-quality action and thrills that they’d get from a mainline John Wick movie, and it’s been bumpy up to this point.
Far be it from me to talk down a movie’s chances before it arrives, but the public perception of reshoots often leads to the assumption that a film’s in trouble. The extensive reshooting of Ballerina means that chatter around the film is already focusing on whether it’s doomed or not.
Still: in the hands of Chad Stahelski (and co-director David Leitch), the...

Lionsgate is bringing light in darkness, unveiling a character poster for Ana de Armas’ Eve Macarro, the titular ballerina of the upcoming John Wick spin-off movie, adding to the already peak anticipation for this expansion. Following their Ccxp presentation Sunday, Lionsgate also released a new extended look featurette examining the film.
As you can see on the poster, Eve is tatted up, with one notable phrase standing out above the rest: Lux in Tenebris, which is Latin for Light in Darkness. That might feel a little on the nose, but it does give us a better glimpse into her psyche – especially when she’s got a gun in her hand. The poster has incredible coloring to it, too, which plays off of the trailer quite nicely. Check it out:
In the trailer that was released in September, we saw a familiar face right away, Winston Scott (Ian McShane), who approaches...

"This is not a female John Wick." So says director Len Wiseman at the start of the freshly dropped Ccxp behind the scenes look at his upcoming actioner Ballerina, the latest off-shoot from the John Wick universe. But while that's certainly true — this movie is set to represent the introduction point for Ana De Armas' Eve Macarro, the Ruska Roma trained dancing assassin who'll be bringing a whole new meaning to the expression 'bullet ballet' in Lionsgate's hotly anticipated John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum and Chapter 4 midquel — it doesn't mean the ever-expanding Jwu's latest lead is any less formidable than Keanu Reeves' Baba Yaga. Quite the opposite in fact. Just check out the featurette below to see what we mean:
Much of the emphasis here is on how Ballerina is set to expand the Wickiverse, with the likes of franchise godhead Chad Stahelski, director Wiseman, and the late, great...

"You have no idea what you just walked into..." Lionsgate has launched a new promo trailer for the action spin-off titled Ballerina, the next John Wick movie that's not actually a John Wick movie. This new promo comes direct from Ccxp in São Paulo - featuring behind-the-scenes footage in addition to some awesome movie footage. Ana de Armas stars as Eve, an assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma getting revenge hunting the murderers of her family. The same character was previously portrayed by Unity Phelan in 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and this takes place before Chapter 4. The superb supporting cast includes Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, Keanu Reeves, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus. With an appearance by Lance Reddick shot before he passed away. This is much better than the first trailer a few months ago, presenting a better look at what hopefully going...

A new poster is unveiled for Ballerina at Ccxp in Brazil, teasing how Ana de Armas' assassin differs from Keanu Reeves' John Wick. Serving as the first movie spinoff of the John Wick franchise, Ballerina follows de Armas' Eve as she seeks revenge following the murder of her family. The movie, which is directed by Len Wiseman instead of franchise veteran Chad Stahelski, is set to feature a number of returning elements from the world of John Wick, including cameos and supporting performances from Reeves, Ian McShane as Winston, Lance Reddick as Charon, and Anjelica Huston as The Director.
When it comes to Ballerina's protagonist, however, a new poster from Lionsgate teases that de Armas won't be a female copy of Reeves' fan-favorite assassin. As the weather cools and the holidays approach, we get the urge to curl up with loved ones around a crackling fire to watch a good old-fashioned family movie. A film where a loveable clan tries to overcome their problems by leaning on love and respect for one another. Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we cry, but we hopefully emerge from this loving cocoon reaffirmed in our own sense of family values. For horror fans, only one household fits the bill. The Ballerina reshoots are addressed by the movie's director. Set in the world of John Wick, Ballerina is an upcoming spinoff movie that sees Ana de Armas jump into the lead role, playing a female assassin. The John Wick spinoff movie Ballerina will seek to flip the existing franchise formula, according to the movie's producers. The upcoming movie serves as the second spinoff of the Keanu Reeves-led action franchise, centering on Ana de Armas' Eva Macarro who, with the skills learned from the Ruska Roma assassin's guild, seeks revenge for the murder of her parents when she was a child. There is something about the dark fantasy movie genre that just isn't easily replicated. While many a fantasy movie has transported audiences to new and expansive worlds with epic stories of big adventures, historically the genre has also been limited by both technology and budgets that restrain movies from achieving the potential of the stories being told.
The dark fantasy genre, however, often tells smaller scale stories inspired by fairy tales, focusing on eerie atmosphere, stellar creature and set design rather than VFX spectacle. Still, many dark fantasy movies have fantastic special effects that feel as grand and epic as big budget blockbusters. Even in animation, the dark fantasy genre has delivered some of the best and scariest works in the medium.
From the apogee of the genre in the 80s, to modern examples, this list pins down the 10 best dark fantasy movies out there.

The Addams Family quotes help make the live-action movies beloved by many thanks to the witty, kooky characters. The perfect cast, combined with cleverly written scripts, helped secure their positions as two of the most influential movies in pop culture history. Barry Sonnenfeld directed The Addams Family and Addams Family Values, with an iconic supporting cast including the talents of Christopher Lloyd, Joan Cusack, Dan Hedaya, and Dana Ivey.
Actors Anjelica Huston, Christina Ricci, and Raul Julia steal the show with their portrayals of main characters Morticia, Wednesday, and Gomez, delivering performances and dynamics that were so good, they're downright irreplaceable. The Addams Family movies endeared themselves with their gothic style, morbid sense of humor, and scripts filled with dialogue that is impossible to forget. The best Addams Family quotes include humorous, dark, and often sarcastic looks at the family and the world around them.
