Comedy filmmakers love a big lie. From Fargo to Tootsie to Overboard to Mrs. Doubtfire, the genre is packed with stories about a beleaguered protagonist coming up with an outlandish claim that quickly grows beyond their control. So Kinda Pregnant, out today on Netflix, is joining a long tradition: Lainy (Amy Schumer) is mistaken for a pregnant woman, decides to run with it, then makes a new friend and has to keep up the ruse. Schumer, who co-wrote the screenplay, is known for her joke-dense stand-up sets and for sexually frank movies like Trainwreck. The film has been released under Adam Sandler’s banner, Happy Madison, home of such past hits as, well, Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. So when you hear that Sandler and Schumer have teamed up on a comedy about pregnancy, you might get a particular picture of what it’s going to be like. But here...

I fear the real Patch Adams may watch Kinda Pregnant, hang up their stethoscope, and finally admit that laughter is not the best medicine. That’s how bad this Amy Schumer movie is, a jaw-droppingly unfunny, utterly misguided, and cringy comedy candidate to be one of the worst films in 2025.

During an interview on The Howard Stern Show, the actress discussed a scene in the Netflix film where her character reads a bedtime story while babysitting, that she reads from the pages of a spoof pop culture magazine.

“There was once a family of beautiful, beautiful princesses called the Kardashians,” her character says in the scene. “And they lived in a palace that their dad bought them by defending a murderer.”

However, before that joke was finalized in the script and filmed, Schumer called Kim to get her opinion.

“I told (Lorne Michaels) that I’d like to host one this year,” Murray explained to the Kelce brothers on their New Heights podcast. “I think I did it two other times other than when I was there so I’d like to try it one more time. It might be the last time to try it.”

2025 is going to be great for Netflix. Sure, we have not seen all the streamer is going to gift us, but let's presume that things will be terrific. Netflix has never (mostly) let us down.

Some people complain there are too many foreign titles on the streamer. This seems...well, odd. Netflix is a global company and foreign films and shows can be just as good as the English-language ones.

Peacock has given out a series order to a crime drama currently titled “Superfakes,” Variety has learned.

The series hails from creator Alice Ju, who will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. In addition, Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie will serve as executive producers along with Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke of 3 Arts. Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush also executive produce. A24 and UCP will produce.

Per the official logline, “Superfakes” is said to follow “a small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer who enters a dangerous black market underworld in order to fund a life of suburban respectability for her family.”

Peacock is diving into the black market underworld with its latest series order for “Superfakes.” The crime drama comes from A24 with Benny and Josh Safdie as executive producers.

“Superfakes” follows a small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer, who upon entering the dangerous underworld of the black market has her life forever changed as she tries to balance the perfect suburban existence for her family with her criminal dealings. No cast is currently attached to the project.

The series is created, written and executive produced by Alice Ju, who also serves as showrunner. Ju has some major credits to her name as she previously wrote and produced for both Netflix’s “Beef” and “Russian Doll,” Max’s “The Other Two” and Peacock’s “Poker Face.”

A little over a year ago, it was reported that Noah Baumbach has been tapped to helm his fourth project with Netflix after Marriage Story, White Noise and The Meyerowitz Stories. He’ll be reuniting with Sandler and pairing the comedic actor with George Clooney for the new project. The details for the movie’s plot has yet to be revealed, but Baumbach is also on board as a producer on the movie. He will be joined by Sony’s Amy Pascal and David Heyman as producers. Heyman had also worked with Baumbach on Marriage Story and also produced Barbie.

While plot details are still kept under wraps, Deadline has revealed some new details that Netflix announced in their big presser. It is now known that the title for this project is Jay Kelly and it is slated to drop sometime in the fall, but an exact date has yet to be announced.

The new Noah Baumbach directed movie at Netflix has been titled Jay Kelly.

In addition the movie will drop on the streamer in the fall. Exact date to be announced in the future.

The announcement is part of several this morning following the streamer’s Next on Netflix presser yesterday.

As Deadline first told you, Baumbach’s latest stars a murderers’ row including George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup, Grace Edwards, Stacy Keach, Riley Keough, Emily Mortimer, Patrick Wilson, Jim Broadbent, Eve Hewson and Alba Rohrwacher. Pic’s producers are David Heyman, Amy Pascal and Baumbach.

Baumbach and Emily Mortimer co-wrote Jay Kelly which is simply billed as a “heartbreaking comedy.”

On Thursday, Netflix revealed its full 2025 film slate. The lineup includes long-awaited sequels, high profile originals, future Oscar contenders, and much more.

The biggest new announcements in the slate include the formal announcement of Jay Kelly, three-time Academy Award nominee Noah Baumbach‘s latest film, a “heartbreaking comedy” featuring George Clooney and Adam Sandler in the large ensemble cast; Eddie, a biographical documentary about one of Hollywood’s most elusive stars, Eddie Murphy; and a Charles Manson documentary from Academy Award winner Errol Morris.

These titles join previously announced films including the third installment in Rian Johnson‘s Daniel Craig-led mystery franchise, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery; Guillermo del Toro‘s adaptation of Frankenstein starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi; and an as-yet-untitled thriller from Best Director winner Kathryn Bigelow, her first film in eight years.

Netflix revealed updates for its 2025 film slate — including Knives Out 3, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and Noah Baumbach’s new George Clooney-Adam Sandler feature — at its annual media day held Wednesday.

During the streaming service’s Next on Netflix presentation at its headquarters in Los Angeles, attendees were treated to previously unseen looks at a number of forthcoming film, TV and game projects, with chief content officer Bela Bajaria highlighting notable releases. THR reports that Benny Safdie is set to reunite with Christopher Nolan for The Odyssey, the director’s epic adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem.

Safdie played theoretical physicist Edward Teller in Oppenheimer, and much like that film, he’ll be part of an all-star ensemble cast for The Odyssey that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal.

The Odyssey tells the tale of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his journey home after the ten-year Trojan War. The trip was filled with peril, including encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe. At home, Odysseus is presumed dead, and his wife Penelope and son Telemachus must contend with groups of unruly suitors who each want Penelope’s hand in marriage to control the kingdom.

After working together on Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan looks to have found a new role for Benny Safdie in his next event film as sources tell Deadline Safdie has joined the ensemble of Universal’s The Odyssey, Nolan’s adaptation of the classic Homer tale. He joins a cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron.

Universal had no comment.

Last month, Universal revealed that Nolan’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning Oppenheimer would be an adaptation of the epic poem composed by Homer around the 8th century Bce.
