We saw several Chicago Fire, Med and Pd characters put their lives on the line during the crossover event on January 29. There was barely time to catch one's breath due to the fact that, at any second, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) or Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) could go down for the count.

One Chicago has a lot of characters and storylines to keep track of. It would be a disservice to the flow of a good crossover is every single person was accounted for, which means that some of them are going to have to sacrifice screen time for the greater good.

That's what this article is about. We love these One Chicago characters, but they ultimately did not fit into the vision for what the 2025 crossover event looked like. It would have been nice to see more of them, but we get why they had to spend most of their time on the sidelines.

One Chicago had the unenviable task of weaving over 20 characters into a single storyline that did justice to all of them. It seems tricky, especially given the three hour constraints, but the writers did just that. The crossover was an unabashed success.

Most everyone got a chance to shine over the court of the three-part event, but naturally, some of them shined brighter than others. As a result, we decided to cherry pick the characters we felt were the most thrilling to watch, and did the most in the face of absolute chaos. Here are our One Chicago MVPs! Spoilers ahead.

Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) wasn't directly involved in the story beats of the show, but he proved to be the crossover's Swiss army knife.

The One Chicago crossover put multiple characters in danger, but none suffered more than Trudy Platt (Amy Morton). The Chicago Pd veteran attempted to apprehend one of the men responsible for a gas explosion, but she was ambushed and shot in the back multiple times.

It was a devastating moment, one made all the more visceral by the way the crossover event chose to show it. Platt was shown slamming up against a wall, with blood spilling out of her as she slid to the floor. When her husband, Mouch (Christian Stolte), found her, she was absolutely covered.

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from tonight’s NBC’s One Chicago crossover.

NBC’s Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. came together for an epic crossover event taking the franchise to the next level.

Due to the pandemic, it has been six years since the One Chicago fam teamed up to take down some bad guys but they certainly made it worth the wait. All three shows are produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment.

In “In the Trenches,” Chicago’s first responders unite in the wake of a catastrophic gas explosion and fire that threaten a city government building. The episodes aired in a different order with Chicago Fire kicking off the night followed by Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. wrapping up the three-hour procedural extravaganza.

“This was an epic event, from start to finish.

One Chicago pulled it off. There was a lot of anticipation and hype heading into the 2025 crossover event, and the franchise managed to deliver on virtually every front. We absolutely loved the way that all three shows were incorporated into the main plot, and how most of the characters got a chance to shine as a result.

We already provided a spoiler free review of the crossover event, that focused on small character moments and unexpected pairings, but now that the special has aired, we decided that a recap with spoilers was absolutely necessary. There's so much to break down, especially regarding who made it out alive. Obviously, spoilers ahead!

There's an explosion near a government building, which causes the ensemble casts of all three One Chicago shows to arrive on the scene. There are injured and trapped victims all around, which takes up most of Chicago Fire and Med's time.

One Chicago dished out one of its biggest disasters to date in its 2025 crossover. There was a huge explosion, victims trapped under rubble, and an entire train full of passengers who were under threat of having concrete structures collapse on them. It was a tense experience for all involved.

In typical One Chicago fashion, characters came up with clever and often genius methods to save lives and ensure the people responsible for the explosion were brought to justice. One aspect of the three-part story that may have taken some viewers aback, however, were Al Capone's secret tunnels. They were repeatedly referenced throughout, and proved to be play a pivotal role in the plot. So what is the deal? Are these tunnels real?

One Chicago made fans wait a whopping six years between crossover events. We're happy to say, the wait was worth it. The franchise delivered a thrilling, three-part event that incorporated every veteran character and made them a vital part of the solution to a citywide disaster.

There's a lot to take in and a lot of screen time to divided up among Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago Pd, especially given that characters from all three shows appear in all three episodes. It's an Avengers style crossover if we've ever seen one. Which is why we wanted to provide a recap of the 2025 event without spoilers.

The promo for the crossover event confirms that established One Chicago faces will be leading the charge. Some of them will be put in harm's way, like Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), while others will be running around and trying to save them.

The fact that Kidd, a Chicago Fire character, and Ruzek, a Chicago Pd character, will be in danger means that their respective teams will be forced to work together to ensure they have it out of their situation in one piece.

Replacing Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) was never going to be easy. The character was a Chicago Fire anchor, a veteran who had been present since the pilot. Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) has done an admirable job, though. He's maintained the same honorable status as his predecessor, but he definitely goes about things in a different way.

We have definitely gotten to know Pascal better over the course of season 13. We have seen him gel with characters like Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and clash with characters like his ex-wife, Monica (KaDee Strickland). The One Chicago crossover is going to be make or break for Pascal, though. It'll be an opportunity to really set himself apart as a man of action.

Chicago Pd has made it 12 seasons on the strength of its cast. The cases the Iu has to contend with on a weekly basis are interesting, but the appeal of the show really boils down to the actors, and the chemistry they have with one another.

That's why bringing in new talent, and seeing old talent depart, is such a big deal. It's a delicate balance. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) has always been a lone wolf. The character is focused on helping others, especially those who work under him in Iu. Chicago Pd has always made it clear that he considers his officers to be members of his family.

This has been Voight's M.O. for 11 seasons. Something has changed. Or rather, something is on the cusp of changing. Assistant District Attorney Nina Chapman (Sara Bues) confessed to having some romantic feelings for Voight. And truth be told, the lieutenant doesn't know how to feel.

To be fair to Voight, Chapman shared her feelings and then informed him that she would be out of town. He didn't have time to respond. We've been patiently waiting for her return, so we can delve into the feelings of both characters and gauge whether a romance is in the cards. Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 9 began with some additional backstory for Officer Kiana Cook (played by Toya Turner).

The writers could do this because the Chicago P.D. fall finale had no cliffhangers.

Cook’s father is introduced as the owner of a hardware store that appears to be struggling. Later, the focus shifts to the other side of the Cook family, and her mother is revealed to be extremely wealthy.

Cook is estranged from her mom but would lean on her later in the episode.

Cook was leaving her dad’s store when an SUV sped past her and crashed. She went to help out at the accident scene and learned the driver was rushing to pay a ransom for his kidnapped wife and kids.

Chicago Pd is in an interesting place. The show has introduced a new foe in the form of Chief Deputy Charlie Reid, but the dynamic betwen the character and the Iu has not boiled over into antagonism. It still appears as though things are cordial, to the extent that Reid asked Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) to be "friends" in the fall finale.

The use of the word "friends" was loaded, however. The character is seemingly angling to take advantage of the skeletons in the Iu's closet, and his presence in the winter premiere promo photos confirms that he will play a large role in the rest of season 12.
