Joel Surnow's and Robert Cochran's espionage series "24" debuted on November 6, 2001, and boy howdy was American ready for it. "24" followed the travails and missions of a special law enforcement agency called the Counter-Terrorist Unit and focused primarily on its ethics-optional star agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). Every season of "24" revealed that evil international terrorists had secured some kind of doomsday device and Jack Bauer had to run around Los Angeles locating baddies, torturing them for information, and kicking in whatever heads needed kicking.
The show took off in popularity, largely because it matched the politics of the time. It debuted only a month after 9/11, and the "get the terrorists" rhetoric of the George W. Bush administration was already proliferating into entertainment. Americans had a lot of militant anger, and TV violence took on a darker edge. "24" was maybe the purest example of the way pop...

Before the love triangle of Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie-Jennifer Aniston became the biggest celebrity scandal of the 2000s, we had another celebrity love triangle in the ’90s. Kiefer Sutherland was all set to marry Julia Roberts in 1991, but the marriage never happened and Roberts was later spotted with actor Jason Patric, who was one of Sutherland’s best friends.

The news outlets wrote a story similar to Runaway Bride, where Roberts allegedly ran away with Patric to Dublin, Ireland, on the day she was supposed to marry Sutherland. However, all three parties involved later dismissed the story and confirmed that Roberts definitely didn’t elope on the day of her marriage.

Can we separate the artist from their work? That is a question that people have been asking for years. How can we ignore horrendous actions, alleged or otherwise from creators who’s work has changed so many lives for the better? The voting period for Oscar nominees this year has ended and there might be a surprise for Clint Eastwood fans. While his latest and potentially last film, Juror No. 2, did not make it to anyone’s top 5 prediction list, Academy voters show more interest in the film. The film explores the moral dilemma of a juror when he finds out that he could’ve accidentally killed the victim in the case.

The film might surprise everyone with a surprise Best Picture nomination, as voters would want to honor the legendary filmmaker. If it happens, it would be a major shame for Warner Bros. who tried to tank the film with a limited release. Sally Field's 1996 psychological thriller has become a global Netflix hit nearly three decades after its release. Field is a highly decorated actress whose career has spanned over six decades, starting during the 1960s with the sitcoms Gidget and The Flying Nun before transitioning to acclaimed dramatic roles. Field won her first Academy Award for Best Actress in 1980 for Norma Rae, her second for Places in the Heart in 1985, and earned an additional nomination for Steven Spielberg's Lincoln in 2013.
Though she's best known for starring in acclaimed dramas, Field has shown some versatility and also ventured into darker territory with roles in thrillers. This includes suspenseful projects such as Sydney Pollack's Absence of Malice in 1981, in which she played a journalist entangled in an ethical dilemma. The following article contains discussions of mental health conditions, violence, and suicide.
While the entertainment industry is notorious for misrepresenting many illnesses, conditions, and disorders, there are many movie characters who accurately portray mental health. Cinema has had a dubious history of portraying mental health in an authentic or even sensitive light. The perceived dramatic nature of a mental illness has notoriously meant it's too often conveyed as a means to broadcast sentimentality or sensationalism. Additionally, "madness" has been used by horror films as a justification for all kinds of unspeakable acts. However, Hollywood also occasionally gets it right, and there are plenty of movie characters with mental disorders that aren't portrayed problematically.

Clint Eastwood's 2024 movie with a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, but was buried in theaters, has become a streaming success. Eastwood made his acting debut back in 1955, but broke through with a lead role in the Western series Rawhide and rose to fame in Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy of spaghetti Westerns during the 1960s. Eastwood became known for much more than Westerns during the 1970s and 1980s, starring as the antihero cop Harry Callahan in five Dirty Harry movies and playing against type in the comedies Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can.
In addition to his iconic onscreen roles, Eastwood is just as famous as a filmmaker, making his directorial debut in 1971 with the indie film, Play Misty For Me. Matthew McConaughey only had the cult comedy film Dazed and Confused popularly in his portfolio when a legal drama proved his capabilities as a leading man. Joel Schumacher, the director of the disastrous Batman & Robin, helmed the summer blockbuster, A Time to Kill, with McConaughey in 1996. During the time of Schumacher’s death in 2020, the Interstellar star revealed that he was indebted to the director.

The sort of relatably flawed everyday hero who might have been played by Mel Gibson or Bruce Willis back in the ’80s, Ethan Kopek always wanted to be a cop. Instead, he’s working airport security — and not even the essential job of scanning passengers’ baggage for bombs. For the past three years, this dead-end Tsa agent’s been stuck somewhere deep in the bowels of Lax airport, doing who knows what, dreaming of a promotion that will never come.
Dumb-fun Netflix potboiler “Carry-On” takes place on Christmas Eve, one of the busiest travel times of the year, and Ethan (Taron Egerton) has picked this moment to prove himself, begging his boss (a surly Dean Norris) to “put me on a machine.” Feeling generous, his supervisor agrees, but this is hardly Ethan’s lucky day. Within minutes of sitting down at the Ct scanner, Ethan finds himself at the center...

Eva Longoria's only real action role in a forgotten thriller proves the John Wick movies missed an opportunity by not inviting her to the franchise. Longoria might be best known for decidedly non-action fare like Desperate Housewives or Dora and the Lost City of Gold, but she played a key role in the John Wick franchise even happening. When the original movie fell short by $6 million, Longoria came to the rescue (via Business Insider) by writing a large cheque.
Longoria is credited as a producer on John Wick and has confirmed her investment in the 2014 film paid off handsomely - though she regrets not sticking around for the sequels. Given that she essentially saved the project from collapse, it's a shame Longoria hasn't been invited to appear in the movies. That said, she's not exactly known for her action roles, though Longoria's sole outing in the genre makes a...

Longlegs became one of the most talked about horror movies of the year, leading to many fans seeking out other movies with a similar vibe. Starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, the movie is a gripping story of an FBI agent on the trail of a serial killer only to discover some unsettling occult clues as she digs deeper into the case. From the intrigue over Cage's mysterious role in the movie to the talk of the shocking moments, Longlegs became a subject of fascination for audiences.
Something the movie does so effectively it combines the elements of the crime and horror genres. From Monroe's grounded hero digging into a case to the terror and mystery surrounding Nicolas Cage's character, these elements combine wonderfully, feeling unique but also bringing to wind other movies to pull off the approach as well. Warning: Major spoilers for Paris Has Fallen below!Paris Has Fallen has made me intensely nostalgic for a certain real-time thriller series from the 2000s. I'm a fan of the Has Fallen movie franchise and was naturally intrigued when Paris Has Fallen was announced. I'm a little disappointed that the show didn't confirm my fan theory that Gerard Butler's Banning would become the U.S. President, but the first season is still a pulpy, well-paced thriller with a great villain performance by Sean Harris. It also reminds me of shows like Strike Back or 24 with its combination of action, procedural, and character drama.
Shows with that mixture are becoming rarer, and Paris Has Fallen gets the balance just right. Each episode has a race against the clock alongside plot twists and action scenes - but it still finds time to flesh out the characters too. While it doesn't...

Exorcist and Omen-inspired religious fare weren’t uncommon in the horror genre in the 70s and 80s. Hell, they still aren’t. But not many of them were derived of scripts written before either film ever saw the light of day. Nor do they carry the sexual deviance and shower immediately after watching feeling of a Clive Barker’s Hellraiser. Today’s film just might. Perhaps that’s why it’s so rarely spoken of. Or why it is, to this very day, difficult to acquire or even view online. This is the story of what happened to The Unholy. (The 1988 version. Not to be confused with the 2021 Jeffrey Dean Morgan film which has no affiliation.)
The story of The Unholy begins with writer Philip Yordan. Yordan, born in 1914, had been writing for so long, he once housed blacklisted writers in his basement during the McCarthy era. The script sat...

“Juror #2” is a movie directed by Clint Eastwood starring Nicholas Hoult with Toni Collette, J.K. Simmons, Kiefer Sutherland, and Chris Messina.
In his latest directorial effort, “Juror #2,” Clint Eastwood proves he hasn’t lost his touch for crafting compelling judicial thrillers. This 2024 release harkens back to the filmmaker’s acclaimed works of the 1990s, delivering a meticulously crafted cinematic experience that combines stellar performances with a thought-provoking narrative.
At the heart of the film is Justin Kemp, portrayed with nuanced complexity by Nicholas Hoult. Kemp finds himself in an ethically precarious position when he’s selected as a juror for a case in which he’s personally involved. James Bond, author Ian Fleming's legendary creation, has been the quintessential spy character for over 70 years since his first appearance in the 1953 novel Casino Royale. The role has been embodied by some of the best actors of all time, from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig, each bringing their own ideals and spin to the character that makes each iteration of 007 something different. Though Bond is often seen as a suave, unstoppable agent, he isn't flawless, with weaknesses and faults that have helped his enemies gain the upper hand - if only for a little.
The spy genre as a whole doesn't live and die with Bond, with countless secret agents who could best him in many fields. Spies like Ethan Hunt from the Mission: Impossible franchise, who has unparalleled athleticism, or even George Smiley from one of the best British spy series, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, who has...

Kiernan Shipka knows “The Last Showgirl” brings the first of many flowers for formerly overlooked Hollywood icon Pamela Anderson.
Shipka, who co-stars in the acclaimed indie feature, told IndieWire while promoting Jordan Weiss’ directorial debut rom-com “Sweethearts” that Anderson’s performance in “The Last Showgirl” “changed” her as an actress.
“Pamela Anderson is so incredible and wonderful in this film, and just I can’t wait for everyone to see her,” Shipka said. “It’s really a performance that changed me as a performer, and I’m just really lucky to be a part of it.”
Shipka added that her fellow showgirls Brenda Song and Jamie Lee Curtis are also “amazing” onscreen.
“The Last Showgirl” stars Anderson as Shelly, an aging Las Vegas dancer who finds herself at an unexpected crossroads when the show that has employed her for three decades suddenly closes. Shipka, Song, and Curtis are her fellow dancers.

Kiefer Sutherland has appeared in multiple acclaimed films and shows in the past few years. While his role as Jack Bauer in 24 is probably his most well-known, his appearances in Stand by Me, A Few Good Men, and the drama Designated Survivor have brought him a lot of recognition. His 1987 vampire comedy The Lost Boys became a cult hit.
Sutherland plays David, a vampire who acts as the gang leader of a local bike gang and befriends the protagonists. Sutherland’s character has gained a cult following, with David being regarded as one of the greatest villains in pop culture. While there were plenty of scenes for him to shine, one gory deleted scene would have made David a legend.

Does someone die in every horror movie ever made? The answer is no, as counterintuitive as that may seem. Indeed, some entries in the genre rely solely on tense atmosphere or implied terror to create a cathartic experience. On the flip side, there are horror films where everybody dies, the lack of survivors underlining the utter bleakness of the world that the characters inhabit. Examples include John Carpenter's "The Thing," whose ending pretty much seals the fate of the two remaining survivors, and George A. Romero's "Night of the Living Dead," which ends with the brutal death of the potential final boy. Multiple deaths are also a staple of the slasher genre, which often raises the stakes via the harrowing arc of a lone survivor who must find a way to persevere against all odds.

Max has announced that Juror #2, Clint Eastwood’s latest (and likely final) movie, will arrive on the streaming service on December 20th.
The announcement comes after a bit of controversy surrounding the film’s release — Warner Bros., Juror #2’s distributor, chose an extremely limited release, screening the movie in fewer than 50 domestic theaters before it inevitably headed to Max. Furthermore, the studio opted for little-to-no advertising, declined to report domestic ticket sales, and even initially removed it from the awards page of their website.
The minimized strategy is said to be an effort by the studio to protect Eastwood from a major box office or critical disappointment. Yet, despite having strong audience impressions and favorable reviews, Warner Bros. still seems totally indifferent to giving Eastwood’s film a larger release.
Even director Guillermo del Toro wondered why Eastwood’s work was getting stifled by the studio, raving about the film on Bluesky.

Clint Eastwood is a legend among legends. The actor and director is potentially getting ready to retire, and since he's firmly in his 90s, it's fair to say he's earned it. But Eastwood had at least one more for the road in the form of the acclaimed courtroom drama "Juror #2." Luckily, viewers won't have to wait too long to be able to watch this one from the comfort of home since Warner Bros. didn't let it have a long run in theaters. The film will be readily available to watch before Christmas.
"Juror #2" was released in just 50 theaters with the studio not even reporting the box office returns. Warner Bros. had apparently planned to give this a direct-to-streaming release in the first place, but instead opted to let it have a brief run in limited theaters, perhaps to qualify for the Oscars. For whatever reason, the powers that be didn't...

$3.8 billion. That’s the amount of money Clint Eastwood’s films have grossed at the North American box office throughout his career. A superstar since the 1960s, Eastwood is rare in that almost all of his biggest blockbusters, including all the Dirty Harry movies, were all made for Warner Bros. It’s been his home studio since about the time he made The Outlaw Josey Wales. He’s made everything from Oscar-winners to action movies, to movies where he’s chilling with his pal Clyde the Orangutan for them, and they almost always ended up at least breaking even. Sure, he’s had a few flops, but even in his golden years, he still cranked out smash hits for them, with American Sniper making over half a billion dollars, while The Mule and Sully both made over $100 million domestically. Even when his movies didn’t do well, Eastwood keeps his...

If you’re tired of Hallmark movies, a legal thriller from a living legend is the perfect holiday counter-programming. “Juror #2,” which people keep describing as possibly Clint Eastwood‘s final film even though I wish they wouldn’t, is coming to Max on Dec. 20, the streaming service announced Tuesday.
The release date comes amidst a controversial limited theatrical run for the film. Warner Bros. Discovery only released “Juror #2” in about 35 theaters, mostly for awards-qualifying purposes, which some feel is disrespectful to a filmmaker of Eastwood’s stature for what could be his final film, which I hope we’re not willing into being by saying it over and over again. “Has everyone at that studio forgotten what they owe Eastwood’s legacy?” IndieWire’s Tom Brueggeman wrote in a column arguing that Warner Bros. Discovery owes “Juror #2” a theatrical release for all of the money and acclaim Eastwood has earned...
