Star Trek: Voyager is a great show. It's one of the best shows not only in the franchise's canon but also in the history of science fiction television. It's an incredible journey that lasted for seven seasons and focused on two crews acting as one to get back home. It's brilliant.
The show followed other, then modern, series like Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The former of which became the new film franchise after the conclusion of Star Trek: The Original Series' theatrical run.
Yet with the end of Voyager came the conclusion of The Next Generation's theatrical run. Voyager ended in 2001, while the last film to feature the cast of The Next Generation was Star Trek: Nemesis a year later. After Nemesis' failure, no Star Trek film was made for seven years.
And when it was brought back, it was a reboot of the Original Series.

Star Trek: Voyager boasted a very cool vessel other than the show's titular ship, and the Delta Flyer has a fascinating backstory. While most Star Trek TV shows rely solely on standard shuttlecraft, the Star Trek: Voyager cast had access to a thrilling alternative that transformed how they explored such a hostile part of the galaxy. The vessel holds a unique place in Star Trek lore, as nothing similar had ever been attempted before, nor has it happened since. However, there is a very good reason behind its rarity.
Although the Delta Flyer may seem as though it was present throughout most of the show, it actually only made its debut in Star Trek: Voyager season 5, episode 3, "Extreme Risk." So, although it wasn't part of the story for every season of Star Trek: Voyager, the ship became instrumental to Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and her crew on their lengthy trip back to Earth.

It is Star Trek: Voyager's turn for a glorious comeback after The Next Generation's cast and the Enterprise-d had their big nostalgic moment in 2023. Star Trek: Picard didn't start as a feelgood tribute to Jean-Luc Picard's heyday, but the spinoff certainly reached that point in season 3. After finally reassembling the main cast of The Next Generation, the crew went into battle, slightly wearier than before, on a secretly restored Enterprise-d. It was an unapologetic throwback designed to rekindle memories of a bygone era. By any measure, that goal was achieved.

Star Trek has had a lot of firsts since it first debuted in 1966, but it took until 1995 for them to actually start happening. That's when Kate Mulgrew took on the role as Captain Kathryn Janeway, becoming the first woman to helm the bridge of a starshipin the franchise. Since then, other firsts have happened, but there is one more that hasn't happened yet. All of that will change on January 24th when Section 31 debuts on Paramount+ as its first Star Trek streaming movie, and Michelle Yeoh becomes the first woman to headline a Star Trek movie.
Section 31 is breaking a lot of new ground, but in thirteen movies, never has a woman been the face of the franchise. And even though some fans are still on the fence about whether or not this will be a successful Star Trek movie, there's no taking away from the fact that this is a big deal.

It's been thirty years since Star Trek: Voyager debuted on Upn. A unique version of Star Trek, this bridge was led by a female captain whose authority was unquestionable. Captain Kathryn Janeway [Kate Mulgrew] owned that bridge, and the crew that helped Voyager make its way across the Delta Quadrant were some of the best on a Star Trek show.
Unfortunately, Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation didn't give the female officers much to do. Voyager corrected that, makihng, the women integral to the ship's journey, more so when Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine came aboard. They worked in tandem with the rest of the crew, never backing down from a challenge or a fight.
Though Star Trek: Deep Space Nine put Major Kira [Nana Visitor] in a position of authority, she was still under Commander/Captain Sisko's [Avery Brooks] command. With Voyager,...

Star Trek: Section 31 officially makes Michelle Yeoh's impact on Star Trek movies the equivalent of what Kate Mulgrew's Captain Kathryn Janeway meant to Star Trek TV shows. Premiering January 24 on Paramount+, Star Trek: Section 31 is directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi and written by Craig Sweeny. Section 31 is the first Star Trek movie made for streaming on Paramount+, and it marks the return of Michelle Yeoh as her iconic anti-heroine, Emperor Philippa Georgiou from Star Trek: Discovery.

Robert Duncan McNeill's Lt. Tom Paris had a very specific character trait throughout Star Trek: Voyager, and although it always made sense, it has come to be so much more effective since the show ended. After debuting in 1995, Star Trek: Voyager's ending brought the story to a close in 2001. As the ship's helmsman, Paris made major contributions to every season of Star Trek: Voyager, and McNeill was given countless storylines that allowed audiences to learn more about his character. While he was always a well-rounded character, the decades since the show ended have improved his legacy even more.
McNeill's role as part of the Star Trek: Voyager cast was brought about, at least in part, due to his franchise debut as Nick Locarno in Star Trek: The Next Generation - a quirky dual-casting that has since been acknowledged by a guest appearance where he reprised the latter role in Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Star Trek: Voyager is better today than it was when it premiered 30 years ago. Hype for Star Trek: Voyager was high in the months leading up to its January 16, 1995, premiere. Voyager promised a fresh twist on a familiar formula, with Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) as Star Trek's first female lead, captaining the USS Voyager's combined Starfleet and Maquis crew through the uncharted Delta Quadrant. Star Trek: Voyager also reversed Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's thematic departure from exploration and featured Lieutenant Tuvok (Tim Russ) as the first series regular Vulcan since Leonard Nimoy's Spock.
During its Upn network run, Star Trek: Voyager couldn't escape harsh scrutiny as a new Star Trek show. Kate Mulgrew's Captain Janeway faced criticism just for being a woman in command. Inevitable comparisons between Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: The Next Generation deemed Voyager a rehash of its predecessor. Even as...

Star Trek: Voyager premiered 30 years ago with a unique premise that's still among the best of any Star Trek show. The Starship Enterprise's original mission—in both Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation—was to explore strange new worlds. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was entrusted with guarding the Bajoran wormhole, ultimately protecting the Alpha Quadrant from the Gamma Quadrant's invading Dominion forces. While the Tng cast moved on to movies and DS9 set the stage for its Dominion War, Star Trek: Voyager promised an interesting twist on the familiar Star Trek formula.
Star Trek: Voyager's premiere episode, "Caretaker", opened at the by-then-familiar locale of Deep Space Nine, where Captain Kathryn Janeway's (Kate Mulgrew) USS Voyager launched its inaugural mission to retrieve Commander Chakotay's (Robert Beltran) Maquis raider from the nearby Badlands. Both ships were flung across 70,000 lightyears to the Delta Quadrant, an as-yet-unseen...

Some of the best TV shows ever faced multiple rejections before becoming hugely successful. It may be hard to believe, but many were even turned down a shocking number of times. Whether due to budget, a complex story, or a genre that felt too niche, they were considered too risky or too different from what audiences were used to.
However, they eventually found their place among the stars, showing that sometimes the most unexpected ideas can lead to incredible triumphs. In addition to great storytelling, stunning visuals, and all the other elements that make for a great series, the ace up the sleeve these titles had was doing things no one had done before. From HBO's The Sopranos to Netflix's Squid Game, these cases prove that it doesn’t matter how slowly one goes, as long as they don’t stop.

The current spate of California blazes has made the memorable Star Trek Generations line of dialogue, “They say time is the fire in which we burn” truer than ever. The line, spoken by Malcolm McDowell’s villainous character Soran and inspired by the Delmore Schwartz poem “Calmly We Walk through This April’s Day,” hits home now as Star Trek actors, including Denise Crosby and Kate Mulgrew, share the real-life toll of the disasters on them and their loved ones.
Crosby, who played Tasha Yar and Sela on Star Trek: The Next Generation, took to X, formerly Twitter, on January 8 to reveal that her Spanish cottage in Pacific Palisades, California, fell victim to the fires. “Yesterday morning I had a beautiful Spanish cottage that gave me endless joy, where I met my husband and raised my son,” she wrote. “The only house I’ve ever owned, with fruit trees I grew,...

When Star Trek: Voyager began, it had built in tension with the Maquis and Starfleet officers at odds with one another. The Maquis were considered criminals, and that was what had started Voyager's journey. The ship went after a missing Maquis spacecraft that had Captain Janeway's [Kate Mulgrew] friend and security officer, Tuvok [Tim Russ], aboard. But once the Caretaker flung the ship so far away from home, the crew of Voyager were forced to work alongside those they considered enemies. But that animosity didn't last long. And fans have often wondered why Voyager writers didn't keep the two factions at each others' throats for a while longer.

One line in Star Trek Generations explains why Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) remains a captain when Star Trek: Voyager's Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) becomes a Starfleet Admiral. Star Trek Generations opens with Captain James T. Kirk's (William Shatner) publicity tour of the USS Enterprise-b, when a distress call pushes Captain John Harriman (Alan Ruck) to cede command to Kirk. Harriman's concession echoes earlier movies, when then-Admiral Kirk took command of the Enterprise from USS Enterprise Captains Will Decker (Stephen Collins) in Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
Eight years after Generations, a Star Trek: Nemesis cameo reveals that Star Trek: Voyager's Kathryn Janeway has been promoted to Vice Admiral, just one year after returning the USS Voyager to the Alpha Quadrant. The USS Voyager was Janeway's first command, suggesting that Janeway spent only eight years as a Captain.

Star Trek: Voyager introduced many firsts into Star Trek canon. Most obvious was Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) - the first female captain to lead a Star Trek Series. Her firm leadership, determination, and love for coffee made Captain Janeway instantly stand out in Star Trek. Similarly, Lieutenant B'Elanna Torres (Roxann Dawson) was the first female chief engineer in Star Trek, and her wit, intensity, and Klingon heritage set Lieutenant Torres apart. More broadly, Voyager was the first show to have a significant portion of its crew not be Starfleet - the USS Voyager is partly crewed by former Maquis.
But Voyager's diverse cast was not the only way Voyager changed the scope of Star Trek. Voyager aired in 1995, right after Star Trek: The Next Generation concluded in 1994. At that point in time, the only other Trek airing was Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, which focused on its titular stationary space station,...

The USS Voyager spent seven years stranded in the Delta Quadrant before it was finally able to return to Earth at the end of Star Trek: Voyager. Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5, episode 9, "Fissure Quest," however, reveals in at least one universe, that return to Earth never happened. When the USS Voyager was initially stranded in the Delta quadrant, it was the first time Star Trek took the concept of being lost in space and made it the premise for an entire show. At the time, it was unclear whether or not this premise would pan out.
Nevertheless, being stranded in the Delta Quadrant, with no assistance or guidance from Starfleet, was precisely what made Star Trek: Voyager episodes so interesting to begin with. It meant that when the crew faced tight situations - from battles for their survival to nuances of the Prime Directive - they faced those dangers entirely alone.

Every year the Hollywood Motion Picture Sound Editors Guild honors the most talented sound artists that have contributed to television, film, animation, computer entertainment, and student productions. Star Trek: Prodigy was included as a nominee this year for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Broadcast Animation. The nomination is for the second season episode “The Devourer of All Things, Part II." [via Trekmovie]
So far, this is the only award nomination for season two of Prodigy however, there is still a chance for a nomination for the 2025 Children and Family Emmys with nominations coming in December 2025. The first season of Prodigy received two Emmy-award nominations and production designer Alessandro Taini took home the award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation.
With fans proclaiming the second season of Prodigy as easily the best of the two, it won't be a surprise if the series is nominated for at least one Emmy, if not more.

The character of Kes (Jennifer Lien) on "Star Trek: Voyager" was controversial from the start. She belonged to a species called the Ocampa, which only had a lifespan of nine years. Kes was merely two years old in the "Voyager" pilot (Lien was 19) and was dating the character Neelix (Ethan Phillips). Many audience members found it icky that an adult man was dating a literal two-year-old.
The concept of a short-lived character, however, was intriguing. "Star Trek: The Next Generation" ended after seven seasons, and there was every reason to believe that the concurrent "Deep Space Nine" would do the same, so "Voyager" was seemingly set up to run a full seven years. Over that time, audiences would have seen Kes grow from a being who looks 20 to one that looks 90. Trekkies would watch Kes mature, grow old, and die in seven years, a whole life in microcosm. Three accomplished Star Trek captains and one admiral came from Star Trek: Voyager, but Star Trek: The Next Generation has an even more impressive record. Throughout Voyager's seven seasons, Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) led the USS Voyager on its unprecedented journey home from the unexplored Delta Quadrant. She not only kept most of the crew safe throughout this journey, but also made numerous first contacts with alien species and faced off against the Borg Queen herself. Janeway went on to become one of Star Trek's most impressive admirals and three of her best officers became accomplished captains.

Star Trek: Voyager premiered when Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was almost halfway through its third season. A darker version of Star Trek, Deep Space Nine had more convoluted storylines that did require regular watching unlike its predecessor Star Trek: The Next Generation. Voyager was much like The Next Generation in that it returned to episodic viewing, allowing fans to tune in as they would like and not miss too much character formation or big issues.
Voyager struggled a little bit in the ratings as did all the Star Trek series. There was never one that was a massive hit out the door during the Berman era. But Voyager held its own with tight storylines and characters that made viewers tune in weekly. Though not everyone was thrilled with certain characters, that didn't stop them from watching.

Star Trek: Voyager should have gotten to have a movie follow-up, but the premise meant it couldn't follow in the footsteps of Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation. After The Original Series' cancelation, the franchise lived on in six Star Trek films, beginning with 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture. When Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country hit theaters, Star Trek: The Next Generation was in its fifth season. After The Next Generation ended, the cinematic torch passed from the Tos cast to the USS Enterprise-d crew in 1994's Star Trek Generations.

One character in Star Trek: Voyager took ten years to get home, instead of seven. After arriving in the Delta Quadrant, Captain Kathryn Janeway's (Kate Mulgrew) crew estimated getting back to the Alpha Quadrant would take 75 years, even at maximum warp. That time was cut down considerably with technologies like the quantum slipstream drive, Borg transwarp conduits, and a telekinetic parting gift from Kes (Jennifer Lien) that shaved 9,500 light years off the trip's original 70,000 light year distance. Ultimately, a future version of Admiral Janeway helped whittle the USS Voyager's journey down to a mere seven years.
The USS Voyager also encountered delays that added time to their trip home. It may not immediately seem that way, but Star Trek actually had a great 2024. Between Paramount+ and Netflix, Star Trek spanned two streaming services in 2024, with three series delivering a total of 40 episodes. Star Trek: Discovery season 5 was the franchise's only live-action outing, offering 10 hour-long episodes and an extended series finale. Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 dropped 20 half-hour episodes on Netflix, the most Star Trek ever in one day. Finally, Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 closed out the year with its final 10 half-hour episodes on Paramount+.

Star Trek will never have a cast as expansive as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's again. At the heart of Star Trek are the scores of beloved characters that generations of fans have come to adore. From noble Captains like James T. Kirk (William Shatner), Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), and Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), to the multitudes of Starfleet Officers and alien characters populating Star Trek's ever-growing universe, it's the people and their stories that keep audiences coming back for more. No Star Trek show, however, could match the impressively massive cast of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ran for seven seasons in syndication from 1993-1999. The first spinoff of Star Trek: The Next Generation, DS9 broke Star Trek's established mold centering on the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. In the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Think Tank", the U.S.S. Voyager is on the run from bounty hunters when they are visted by a mysterious alien named Kurros (Jason Alexander). He offers to hide the Voyager in subspace, keeping them safe from their pursuers. While hiding, Kurros explains that he is part of a four-member cadre of hyper-intelligent aliens that Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) nicknames the Think Tank. The four Think Tank members are convinced of their intellectual superiority, and have, in their pursuit of knowledge, lost sight of ethics. They want to kidnap Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and induct her into their club.
Jason Alexander was elated to play Kurros, as he had been a rabid Trekkie for decades. Shortly after his appearance "Voyager," Alexander hosted a 1999 TV special called "Ultimate Trek: Star Trek's Greatest Moments" wherein he played Captain James T. Kirk, running around the Paramount lot "investigating" a mystery.

Once again we've said goodbye to a Star Trek series before we were ready for it to end. Star Trek: Lower Decks wrapped up its five season run on Thursday, December 19th, and while the show went out with a bang, it's not necessarily over. As we've heard before, it's never say never with Star Trek, and creator Mike McMahan is taking that to heart.
In an interview with Trekmovie, McMahan discussed his plans now that the series has wrapped. There are plenty more stories to be told with Boimler, Mariner, and the gang, and he's nowhere near ready to say goodbye to them. But he knows that now isn't the time to push Paramount. So, he's going to "regroup and take the victory lap for a second." And it's a well-deserved victory lap as Trekkies had their doubts about the animated comedy before it premiered. When "Star Trek: Voyager" was in development in 1994, the franchise was running hot. "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was making its way to the big screen in the form of "Star Trek: Generations," and its spinoff, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," was finding its stride at the beginning of its third season. "Deep Space Nine," however, was set on board a space station, and the franchise's head honchos felt that an additional "Trek" show should be created to incorporate more traditional star trekking. "Voyager" was set on board a Starfleet vessel, the U.S.S. Voyager, as it became stranded 75 years away from Earth.
Show creators Rick Berman, Michael Piller, and the recently late Jeri Taylor, while developing their series, decided they wanted the captain of the U.S.S. Voyager to be a woman, as all the previous lead "Star Trek" captains had been men. Captain Kathryn Janeway was created,...

Netflix would be wise to not only renew Star Trek: Prodigy, but also benefit from the rising star power of Ella Purnell. Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 is the only current Star Trek series that boasts a perfect 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a stellar 96% audience score. Despite widespread critical and fan acclaim, and charting in Netflix's top 10 in several countries, however, Star Trek: Prodigy didn't reach the same heights in the United States, and the streamer has yet to green light Star Trek: Prodigy season 3.
Star Trek: Prodigy cast Ella Purnell as Gwyndala just as the British actress was starting to make inroads. Purnell had lead roles in Ordeal By Innocence, Sweetbitter on Starz, and Belgravia, but she began to gain fame from playing Dave Bautista's daughter in Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead and as Jackie Taylor in Showtime's hit series Yellowjackets. Star Trek: Voyager wrapped its seven season run on May 23, 2001 with the iconic ship orbiting around Earth as the crew on board waited for their chance to step foot on the planet's surface. Many fans were unhappy the crew didn't get that opportunity. One of the actors feels the same. Garrett Wang, who played Ensign Harry Kim, told Startrek.com [via Slashfilm] that he was not happy about the way the series came to an end. He believed, "after seven years, fans wanted to see [the crew] actually step foot on terra firma."
Other considerations were made before the finale was finalized with Captain Janeway's [Kate Mulgrew] death even being one of them. Seven of Nine [Jeri Ryan] was also in the running for a death scene. Instead, producers chose to end the series on a poignant note which still left some room for improvement. That probably could have occurred had Voyager had more time.

The final episode of "Star Trek: Voyager" was called "Endgame," and it began with a flash-forward to the year 2404, ten years after the U.S.S. Voyager returned to Earth in 2394. For context, "Voyager" began in the year 2371, so by the timeline of "Endgame," it took the title ship about 23 years to return home from the Delta Quadrant. By 2404, some of the old "Voyager" crew had all settled into cushy new jobs. Notably, Harry Kim (Garrett Wang) was finally a starship captain. Kim's promotion was well-deserved, as he had spent his entire stint on the U.S.S. Voyager as a mere ensign. He was never promoted as a way to retain a certain sense of status quo.
The plot of "Endgame" follows the now-admiral Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) realizing that 23 years wasn't fast enough, and that she could have done a better job getting her crew home. As such, she...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5, episode 9, "Fissure Quest."Star Trek: Voyager added much to the franchise, and Star Trek: Lower Decks' final season brought back one of the most exciting things discovered by Kate Mulgrew's Captain Kathryn Janeway and her crew. The Star Trek: Voyager cast was given a unique challenge, as it was the first installment of the saga set entirely outside the Alpha Quadrant. The ship's journey home through the Delta Quadrant brought with it many perils but also allowed for some brilliant discoveries, and one last-minute addition to the Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 cast has brought one of the best devices back.
Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5, episode 9, "Fissure Quest," is a thrilling multiverse story that draws on the larger franchise throughout. Many Star Trek TV shows are represented in the episode with clever Easter Eggs, some of which can be easy to miss.

Over the many decades since Star Trek began in 1966, fans have their favorite couples as well as those pairings they want to happen. Kathryn Janeway [Kate Mulgrew] and Chakotay [Robert Beltran] were one as was Spock [Leonard Nimoy] and Captain Kirk [William Shatner] for others. There were plenty of characters that fans believed belonged in relationships that never came to fruition. Two of those characters were T'Pol [Jolene Blalock] and Trip Tucker [Connor Trinneer] from Star Trek: Enterprise.
T'Pol and Trip had chemistry, but it was like the producers/writers of Enterprise weren't quite sure what to do with it. They brought the couple together in such a short span of time, it was almost like it didn't happen. Then they eradicated any hope fans had that the romance could happen when Trip died at the end of the series finale.

Actress Kate Mulgrew was known for her role as Captain Kathryn Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager before she renewed her stardom with Orange is the New Black. The actress became the first female Captain of a Starfleet ship to headling a Star Trek series and her character is nothing less of iconic.
One of the advantages and disadvantages of TV is that they are long-form. This means that the shows are designed to run for a long time and hence, the physical changes that actors go through have to be dealt with. While most costume departments have to deal with actors gaining weight, Star Trek: Voyager’s department reportedly had to work around Mulgrew’s fast metabolism.

In any world, losing weight quickly is a good problem to have.

In Peter Jackson's 2001 fantasy epic "The Lord of he Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," actor John Rhys-Davies played the role of Gimli the Dwarf, an axe-wielding warrior who served as a gruff, comedic counterpoint to the otherwise po-faced and poised characters. Rhys-Davies reprised the role in the two follow-up films, as well as in several "Lord of the Rings" spinoff video games. He also played ancillary characters like Gloin and Treebeard. His association with "Lord of the Rings" would be an impressive pop milestone for any actor, but Rhys-Davies has also enjoyed a hugely long career with appearances in dozens of other notable pop properties over several decades.
In addition to "Lord of the Rings," Rhys-Davies has costarred in several Indiana Jones movies (including "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny"), voiced characters in high-profile Disney films, and acted in dozens of fun horror movies and adventure flicks.

Kate Mulgrew played Captain Kathryn Janeway for seven seasons on Star Trek: Voyager and has since played her (and Admiral Janeway) for two more seasons on Star Trek: Prodigy. So it's blatantly clear that she knows this character inside and out. The character wasn't her idea, but she built Kathryn Janeway from the ground up. So when she says a return to a live-action form of the character would have to be "so good," it's understandable.
Back in July, Mulgrew told Trekmovie that she was "entitled, I think, to tap into that sense of protectiveness of that character." She has a lot of respect for the character that she imbued, and it's no wonder that she would want to protect that Janeway's legacy as well as her own.

Ever since Patrick Stewart returned to Star Trek in the late 2010s for his latest and possibly last series with the franchise, Star Trek: Picard, a lot of fans have imagined more stars coming back for similar showcases. We've heard everything from a Star Trek: Sisko series, to a Star Trek: Archer series. We've even heard of a long-running idea, a Captain Worf series, to get new traction once again under the same format that Picard introduced.
Yet, the only series that ever had legs that were pitched by fans was the Star Trek: Janeway concept, featuring Kate Mulgrew once again playing Kathryne Janeway. The fandom support for the concept predates, though barely, Mulgrew's return to Star Trek with the animated series Star Trek: Prodigy.
Since then, people have pushed for Janeway's return to live action. The support for the star's return to live-action only picked up steam when everyone saw how good Prodigy was.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Elim Garak (Andrew Robinson) predicted Seven of Nine's (Jeri Ryan) future Starfleet career in Star Trek: Picard. Seven joining Starfleet seemed unlikely during Seven's time on Star Trek: Voyager, but Star Trek: Picard revealed that Seven had actually attempted to join Starfleet. Even with Captain Kathryn Janeway's (Kate Mulgrew) sponsorship, Starfleet turned Seven down on account of being an ex-Borg drone. In Star Trek: Picard season 2, Seven of Nine earned a field commission from Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), with 20 years of Fenris Ranger experience qualifying Seven for the rank of Commander.

Star Trek: Voyager begin in 1995, the first of the Star Trek series to feature a woman as a captain, which was a big deal back then. But series star Kate Mulgrew, who spoke at FanExpo Boston [via Collider], wanted to include a gay character on the bridge as well, breaking even more ground. Unfortunately, that wasn't approved.
According to Mulgrew, she approached producer Rick Berman with the idea, telling him it was a good cast, but they needed a gay character, adding "I want this known, that this is my preference and my choice. But there wasn't any room, they felt at that time."
It took a long while before an openly gay character actually appeared on Star Trek and that was in J.J. Abrams' 2016's Star Trek Beyond when it was revealed that Sulu, played by John Cho, was gay. Prior to that, writer David Gerrold, who wrote "The Trouble with Tribbles,...

Star Trek: Voyager never had a Mirror Universe episode, but its alternative resulted in a great story that surpassed what would have likely been produced in its stead. Instead, the Star Trek: Voyager cast were able to play alternate versions of themselves in an entirely new way. It may not have been canon in the strictest sense of the term, but it was certainly creative and very entertaining. So, although some viewers may have been frustrated that Star Trek: Voyager ended without a trip to the iconic other reality, it was arguably a blessing in disguise.

"Star Trek," which a very progressive franchise in many respects, has always had something of a fraught relationship with queerness. Gay or lesbian characters weren't wholly visible on the series, and dating couples tended to fall into the heteronormative. Near the end of his life in the early 1990s, "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry once idly mused that he'd like to depict two background male characters holding hands in a romantic way, but that's hardly a great spearhead for a progressive ideal.
There were occasional attempts to include queer stories in "Star Trek" throughout the 1990s, but they were few and far between. The "Next Generation" episode "The Outcast" was controversial even at the time (and one can read all about "The Outcast" in the pages of /Film), and the "Deep Space Nine" episode "Rejoined" did allow Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) to have a romantic relationship with a woman, but...

Kate Mulgrew has proven that even in voice form, Admiral Kathryn Janeway remains a much-loved character with dedicated fans. Star Trek: Prodigy, Star Trek's animated series, showcases a wealth of talent, not the least of which is Mulgrew returning as a formidable higher-ranking commander than she was in Star Trek: Voyager.
It shouldn't come as a surprise that fans have been asking if she would ever do a Star Trek: Picard type of show, but Mulgrew can't really answer that as she's not sure. In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Cause and Effect", the U.S.S. Enterprise-d enters a recurring time loop, forcing the people on board to relive the same day over and over again. At the start of the day, several members of the senior staff gather for a game of poker. At the end of the day, the Enterprise collides with a mysterious other ship and explodes, killing everyone on board. When time resets, the Enterprise crew has no memory of what happened.
Of course, thanks to some elaborate clues, the crew does eventually find out what's happening, and even develop a means to sent additional clues backward into the next time loop. In the next repetition, the crew finally deciphers their own hints and escapes the loop by dodging the mysterious ship. Once freed, the Enterprise-d contacts that ship, and finds it is the U.S.S.

Star Trek: First Contact is often regarded as the best Star Trek: The Next Generation movie, and it also has two surprising Star Trek: Voyager cameos. Crossovers between the 24th-century Star Trek shows were common, since Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager all took place at the same time in the Star Trek timeline, and progressed in real time. For seven years, Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and the crew of the USS Voyager were lost in the Delta Quadrant, making crossovers with other Star Trek shows difficult, but not impossible.
One 90s-era Star Trek crossover with Star Trek: Voyager was possible because Voyager's Doctor (Robert Picardo) was an Emergency Medical Hologram who could be transmitted back to the Alpha Quadrant to interact with Star Trek: The Next Generation's Lieutenant Reginald Barclay (Dwight Schultz). Star Trek: Voyager never got the theatrical treatment, but the show did have a brilliant two-parter that would have made an awesome Voyager movie rather than being split into two episodes. Across every season of Star Trek: Voyager there were a total of 12 two-episode stories. They all showed the Star Trek: Voyager cast in even greater peril than usual, and for a variety of reasons. If the show could have chosen one of these extended arcs to develop into a movie, one of them would have stood out from its counterparts.
