The fourth of six children. He has one older sister (Elizabeth Keuchler), two older brothers (Alec Baldwin and Daniel Baldwin), one younger sister (Jane Sasso) and one younger brother (Stephen Baldwin).

Both William and younger brother Stephen Baldwin are former Calvin Klein models.

William and his older brother Alec Baldwin were both very close friends of the late John Kennedy Jr..

William, who trained for three weeks at the Chicago Fire Academy, rode along with the Chicago Fire Department's Squad 5 while preparing for his role as Brian McCaffrey in Backdraft (1991).

Berner High School, two miles from Massapequa High School. But their father, Alexander Jr., was a highly respected history teacher and football coach at Massapequa High. In 1998/1999, he was honored by the school, and the auditorium was renamed for him. (One of Al Baldwin's former students is Brian Kilmeade).
