Bill Skarsgård has met his match in the trailer for Locked. The actor, who tends to embody movie monsters, is up against a sadistic Anthony Hopkins in the thriller, which hits theaters on March 21.
In the clip, Skarsgård plays Eddie, a thief on the hunt for cars. When he finds one unlocked and attempts to take it, the phone rings, and Hopkins’ character, William, reveals he plans to punish Eddie for his crimes. “I want you to experience the consequences of your actions,” William says, locking Eddie inside the vehicle and tasing him.

Move over, John Kramer — there's a new twisted vigilante in town! And this ain't just any old bloodthirsty kook either: it's Hannibal Lecter himself, Sir Anthony Hopkins. Yes, in David Yarovesky's upcoming single location thriller Locked, Hopkins plays William, a Jigsaw-style cool, calm, and collected killer who traps unsuspecting lout Eddie (Bill Skarsgård) in his luxury SUV when the down-on-his-luck thief tries to steal his car. Thus ensues a battle of wits as William employs all sorts of cruel, car-based torture to punish Eddie while his hostage fights for survival. And you can check out the trailer for the Sam Raimi produced horror thriller, a remake of original 2019 Argentinian effort 4x4 (which itself has been remade once already as 2022 Brazilian flick A Jaula), below:
"I just want to introduce you to a little taste of hell," Hopkins' William — only heard, never seen — tells Eddie in this cheek-clenchingly tense first trailer for Locked.

Marianne Faithfull, the iconic English singer and songwriter who first appeared in the mid-1960s, then returned after years of personal problems, including heroin addiction and homelessness, with her masterful 1979 album “Broken English,” died surrounded by her family at her London home on January 30. Though known mainly for her music, in the late 1960s she embarked on a career as a film actress (best known for “The Girl on a Motorcycle”) that was cut short by turmoil in her life. She was 78.
Best known initially for “As Tears Go By” in 1964 when she was only 17 (the song was co-written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards) her father was a career military man and intelligence officer and Italian literature professor, her mother from Austrian-Hungarian nobility. "I just want to introduce you to a little taste of hell." The Avenue has revealed the first official trailer for an intriguing new stuck-in-one-place horror thriller film titled Locked, from filmmaker David Yarovesky - best known for directing the supervillain horror Brightburn a few years ago. The story follows a thief who breaks into a luxury SUV, only to realize that he has slipped into a sophisticated and deadly trap. With no means of escape, Eddie must fight to survive in a ride where escape is an illusion, survival is a nightmare, and justice shifts into high gear. From producer Sam Raimi comes Locked, starring Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins (as the SUV owner who taunts him) in the ultimate auto horror-thriller. The cast also includes Ashley Cartwright and Navid Charkhi. It's fun to see something entirely original out there, but this is such a kooky concept. Looks like...

During his lifetime, David Lynch was nominated twice for the Writers Guild of America Awards but never won. Weeks before his death, however, he was able to accept a recognition that will be officially bestowed in February.
During its 2025 awards ceremony, the Writers Guild of America West will posthumously present the Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet writer-director with a lifetime achievement prize, the Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement, the union stated Wednesday. The award recognizes union members who have “advanced the literature of motion pictures and made outstanding contributions to the profession of the screenwriter,” with past recipients including Charlie Kaufman, Nancy Meyers and Budd Schulberg.
While the presentation will happen at the Feb. 15 ceremony, with frequent Lynch collaborator Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet) bestowing the honor, Lynch was able to receive the prize in late 2024 before his death on Jan. 16, according to the union.

For the past dozen years, the eventual Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actor has hailed from a Best Picture nominee. But that streak could finally end this year, based on Gold Derby’s predictions.
Kieran Culkin is the odds-on frontrunner to win Best Supporting Actor for his performance in A Real Pain. He plays Benjamin “Benji” Kaplan, who embarks on a roadtrip through Poland with his cousin, David Kaplan (Jesse Eisenberg), following the death of their grandmother. The Searchlight Pictures film also received a Best Original Screenplay nomination for Eisenberg, who directed, wrote, produced, and starred in the project, but it was snubbed in Best Picture.
Culkin has dominated the precursor awards and should he prevail at the Oscars, he would end a 12-year streak that began after Christopher Plummer won for Beginners (2011). Plummer notably claimed this award at age 82, making him the oldest acting winner at that time (an...

Although Mads Mikkelsen is known for many roles, he has gained a completely different kind of audience ever since he starred as Hannibal Lecter. Playing the role of serial killer, cannibal, and psychiatrist, he certainly got to explore many different professions and lifestyle choices through the beloved character.

Everyone loves a good villain. Without scenery-chewing, dastardly antagonists for our heroes to fight, things just aren't much fun. Sometimes villains become cultural icons in their own right, like Michael Meyers from the "Halloween" movies or even Jeremy Irons as Scar in "The Lion King." Of course, one of the greatest villains of them all is Hannibal Lecter. Created by author Thomas Harris, "Hannibal the Cannibal" was the baddie in the novels "Red Dragon" in 1981, "The Silence of the Lambs" in 1988, "Hannibal" in 1999, and "Hannibal Rising" in 2006, and his well-mannered eccentricity and fierce bloodlust makes him as alluring as he is terrifying. These books have since been adapted into several Hannibal Lecter movies and an NBC television series, with four different actors having portrayed the aristocratic Lithuanian serial killer, each with their own unique spin.

Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal, as a character, always leaves the viewers wanting more. Regardless of how much information they find out about him, they are always consumed with questions, as though they may never truly understood him. As though a personification of the dark, no matter how well one learns to navigate the darkness, it is impossible to fully see in it.

The show is somewhat similar, leaving its audience with a mountain of questions, be it about specific character motivations, or plot points as a whole. Due to this, Fannibals have been demanding that the series get another season after it was canceled after a three-season run.
While the demand for another season is very loud, there is also a different part of the fandom that does not want more of the story, and their reasoning is quite interesting.

These days, no matter how many Get Outs and Parasites we throw at them, Hollywood is reluctant to make any movie that isn’t part of a franchise. There was a time, however, when the bigwigs could be approached with a sequel idea and say, “Actually, that’s good enough to stand on its own.” They weren’t always right, but at least they could say it.
5 Die Hard
You might know that Die Hard is based on a book, 1979’s Nothing Lasts Forever, but did you know that it’s actually a sequel to 1966’s The Detective? That’s right: Die Hard is technically Die Hard 2. In fact, The Detective had already been adapted in 1968, and the star of that film, Frank Sinatra, had it written into his contract that he must be offered the starring role in any sequels. The Silence of the Lambs goes down, without any argument, as one of the finest pieces of pure cinematic excellence delivered in the history of Hollywood. Not only did the psychological horror-thriller masterpiece get numerous nominations and wins at the Academy Awards, but it is also the first horror movie to have won an Oscar so far, to date.

While Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster, and mastermind Jonathan Demme are the ones to be credited for the flick’s tremendous success, there’s also one major reason why the movie received as much acclamation and recognition as it did. And this reason is as uncanny as the film itself, for it is quite literally linked to America’s scariest timeline of serial killers.

Despite the criticism about showcasing themes of human s*xuality and s*xual politics, Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs is rightly considered a timeless classic. Released in 1991, the film tells the story of a young FBI trainer Clarice Starling who hunts a serial killer, Buffalo Bill. As she turns to an imprisoned psychiatrist/cannibal, Hannibal, for help, her life takes a rather dark yet transformative turn.

For a race that seemed as unpredictable as any in recent history, the 2025 Oscar nominations came and went without many huge surprises. All the expected acting contenders — including frontrunners like Demi Moore, Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet, Zoe Saldaña, and Kieran Culkin — were bestowed with nominations on Thursday, as were several films long predicted to score Best Picture recognition. But while the 97th Oscars were perhaps shorter than usual on snubs and surprises, the list of nominees did clarify which films Academy voters truly loved and what might ultimately win Best Picture in March. Ahead are the key takeaways from the 2025 Oscar nominations.
Emilia Pérez is the front-runner to beat
With 13 Oscar nominations on Thursday, including Best Picture, Best International Feature, Best Director, and acting nominations for Karla Sofia Gascón and Zoe Saldaña, Emilia Pérez is not just the year’s top Oscar contender but one of the most decorated nominees in history.

“I’m going to check out my house. Miraculously, it’s still standing. By the grace of God, we have four walls and a roof,” the Guardians of the Galaxy star said late Wednesday on his Instagram page.
Pratt, reporting via a video from his car as he returned to his fire-ravaged Pacific Palisades neighborhood, said his son’s school burned down, as had many of his friends’ own homes. “I haven’t been back since the Palisades fires. It’s truly devastating, as you know, and yeah, the silver lining is my house was saved. But at the same time, so many people’s houses were burned around us, and the community is gone,” he added.
“It’s just, it’s just wild, and we’re resilient and we trust in God and consider it all a blessing.

Cosmo Jarvis, star of FX’s smash hit period series “Shōgun,” has landed a role in Guy Ritchie’s next film, “Wife & Dog.”
The Brit joins a heady lineup of names already confirmed for the feature, first announced by Variety last year and set to see Ritchie return to the colourful, backstabbing world of the British upper classes (doubling down on a subject he recently explored in “The Gentleman” film and TV series). Benedict Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike and Anthony Hopkins have been announced as leading the feature and, while plot details remain under wraps, Jarvis is understood to be to playing Hopkins’ son and Pike’s sister.
The “Wife & Dog” screenplay is written by Ritchie, who also produces alongside long-time producing partner, Ivan Atkinson and Black Bear’s John Friedberg. Executive producers include Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler for Black Bear.

One of the photos showed McConaughey and Hopkins posing together, both dressed in sharp black suits for the event. The 87-year-old Hopkins had his arm around McConaughey’s shoulder while the ‘Sing 2’ actor pointed at him with a big smile on his face.
The post also featured a selfie of McConaughey with Morgan Freeman, along with a candid moment of Martin Lawrence adjusting McConaughey’s bowtie.
This reunion was a special one, as McConaughey, Hopkins, and Freeman all starred together in Steven Spielberg’s 1997 film ‘Amistad.’
In his caption, McConaughey wrote: “1. It’s past time this Sir is People’s Sexiest Man Alive / 2. 1st class legend mensch / 3. I mean, who else you want straightening...

There’s good news at the MLK weekend box office for films like Sony’s new buddy comedy “One of Them Days” as well as more milestones for Christmas holdovers “Mufasa” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” but this holiday period is proving to be a weak one for theaters.
Overall grosses for the 4-day period are expected to fall to $96-100 million, an 18% drop from last year. “Mufasa” is taking No. 1 with an estimated 4-day total of $15.5 million in its fifth weekend, which is the lowest No. 1 total seen on an MLK weekend since the unadjusted $14 million 4-day holdover total of the Brad Pitt/Anthony Hopkins western “Legends of the Fall” way back in 1995, according to Box Office Mojo.
For Disney, this $15.5 million total for “Mufasa” is just fine, as it pushes the film’s domestic total past $200 million while its global total reaches $588 million. Though a world away from...

Anthony Hopkins made his first public appearance over the weekend since recently losing his home in the Pacific Palisades fire by traveling to Saudi Arabia. The legendary Oscar-winning actor, who is also a composer, hosted a gala concert featuring his pieces played by Britain’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

On January 15th, 2025, we lost one of cinema’s most imaginative minds. David Lynch, the man who turned dreams into films and ordinary moments into something extraordinary, passed away at 78. For decades, Lynch showed us the power of storytelling—how it could be raw, emotional, and downright nightmarish, yet still somehow beautiful.
Lynch wasn’t just a filmmaker but an artist and a dreamer—and sometimes just a man reporting the local weather from his office. Born on January 20, 1946, in Missoula, Montana, Lynch originally studied painting before his fascination with moving images pulled him into filmmaking. His work often straddled the line between dream and reality, crafting worlds that felt deeply personal and moving, all the while confusing the hell out of even his most hardcore fans.
As with our Editor-In-Chief, Chris Bumbray, my introduction to his work came through Lost Highway, a movie that fell into my lap at just the right time.

I had a fever. I was not well and could not think straight, but, being an age less than 10, I wasn't frightened. I'd been sick before and gotten better. My parents were unconcerned, the family dog was on the opposite end of the living room couch and the television dial was switched to The Movie Channel. While my friends were stuck in an overheated classroom learning cursive writing by rote like a pack of healthy suckers, I was drifting in and out of consciousness as films happened on the cathode ray tube nestled into a carved-out wooden nook eight feet away from me. I don't remember if I had a sore throat or a persistent cough. I do remember that I was happy and hungry for sensation. This was my happy place.

The reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property The Wolf Man from Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell is now in theatres – and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray wasn’t very impressed with it, giving it a 6/10 review that you can read Here and describing it as “well-acted, but not very scary.” Now, we want to know, what did you think of Wolf Man? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
The leads of this version of Wolf Man are Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, both of whom were in the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene. Abbott is taking on the role of a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator. Garner is playing his wife. Sam Jaeger is also in the cast, along with child actress Matilda Firth, playing a character named Ginger: “Female, 10 years old, white. Blake and Charlotte’s daughter.

Picking out roles in the entertainment industry isn’t always as easy as A-listers like Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt make it look. There’s always a bit of gamble associated with every project that can turn it into a classic or even tank it at the box office. Ask Michelle Pfeiffer, for the actress has experience in turning down a role that went on to establish Pitt’s career.

Now, years later, despite enjoying a successful career and starring in films like Scarface, The Age of Innocence, and Batman Returns, Michelle Pfeiffer still can’t overcome her regret of losing Thelma & Louise. But then, after turning down projects like The Silence of the Lambs, Sleepless in Seattle, and Pretty Woman, Pfeiffer simply came to terms with her lack of commercial sense.

David Lynch, whose death was announced Thursday, was my motion picture lodestar.
When his 1977 movie Eraserhead played at an obscure film festival, now long gone, in Woolwich, London, it was like nirvana for a kid raised on The Sound of Music, Cliff Richard in Summer Holiday and Tommy Steele in Half a Sixpence!
It was my kind of weirdness. Thank heavens my sister loved Bob Dylan, otherwise I’d have been really weird.
I was getting high on Lynch’s movies, and the price of admission at the Odeon in Richmond was all it cost me.
A few years later, as a reporter on the London Evening Standard, I was charged with tracking the progress of The Elephant Man, the film Lynch was shooting about John Merrick starring John Hurt, Anthony Hopkins, Anne Bancroft and John Gielgud. They were on location at a crumbling old wing — so dilapidated that it...

David Lynch’s passing wasn’t expected, exactly.
In the past few years, he had been battling crippling emphysema after a lifetime of smoking. In November he told People that he could “hardly walk across a room. It’s like you’re walking around with a plastic bag around your head.” He only gave up smoking in 2022 but it was of little help. He was homebound and would do weather reports from inside his home, his gray hair in its usual electric shock state, his now gaunt face adorned with oversized Persol sunglasses. Still, there was idle talk that he’d return to filmmaking, which seemed like a physical impossibility in his current state (even though Lynch would swat down “retirement” talk). Rumors of a possible Netflix project had circulated in recent years.
But his death is still a huge loss – to the film community at large and to the...

One of Hollywood’s worst weeks in years just got worse. David Lynch, the four-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, Wild at Heart, The Elephant Man and others who also created the ABC drama series Twin Peaks, died Wednesday. He was 78.
His family posted the news on social media but did not provide a date of death.

Lynch had been diagnosed with emphysema. Sources told Deadline that he was forced to relocate from his house due to the Sunset Fire and then took a turn for the worse. In an interview with Sight & Sound magazine last year, Lynch revealed that due to Covid fears and his emphysema diagnosis, he no longer could leave the house, which meant if he directed again, it would be remotely.

Very few network television shows end up leaving an impact as lasting as Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal. The series is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, with its romanticism of gore and dark themes bleeding into every single shot. However, for those who recognize its beauty for what it is, there is no going back from the change that ensues.

One of the biggest questions that the series faces to this date is to justify its presence. Considering the fact that Anthony Hopkins’ The Silence of the Lambs is a classic film, one cannot help but wonder why another actor would try their hand at it and risk ruining something perfect.
However, anyone who has seen the series would argue that its existence was perfectly needed, all by simply looking at the differences in Mikkelsen’s and Hopkins’ portrayals of the character.

As wildfires continue to ravage areas of Los Angeles, thousands have tragically lost their homes, including several Hollywood stars.
The fire started Tuesday in Pacific Palisades, before spreading to parts of Malibu and Santa Monica overnight. Though the Palisades and Eaton fires were at zero containment for days, as of Monday, the Palisades Fire was 14 percent contained, while The Eaton fire in Altadena was roughly one-third contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The Kenneth Fire, which scorched 1,052 acres near the border of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, was fully contained; so was the Hurst fire, which burned 779 acres in the area around Sylmar.
On Wednesday night, another fire, named the Sunset Fire, broke out in the Hollywood Hills, endangering the iconic landmark the Hollywood Bowl, among other tourist destinations. On Thursday morning, all evacuation orders were lifted after firefighters got the blaze under control. Also later Wednesday night,...

Stanley Tucci reflected on his time in Captain America: The First Avenger, saying he considers the MCU role it one of the best in his career. Tucci has an illustrious career in Hollywood, receiving acclaim for many of his excellent performances. He has starred in a number of Academy Award-nominated films, like Spotlight, and is in the middle of an awards campaign for his role in Conclave. It's easy to forget that Tucci portrayed an important MCU character who played a crucial role in Captain America's origin.

Ricki Lake is sharing that her recent experience of losing her home in the L.A. wildfires was predicted by Hollywood medium Tyler Henry less than three months before it happened.
The Hairspray actress took to Instagram on Saturday to share a video of when she and husband, Ross Burningham, went on Henry’s show Live From the Other Side With Tyler Henry in October.
“There might end up being a coincidence where not only do we lose something … I think this may have already happened. If there was a loss of material objects from both fire and water — and water, though, that’s the kind of weird distinction. It’s two separate things,” Henry said in the clip. “So, we’re going to end up finding that there’s a story where there was a house fire or something along those lines, a fire risk! But, they’re separate from that.

Even though Joshua Jackson’s home was destroyed in the Los Angeles wildfires, the actor says he feels “incredibly lucky.”
“First and most importantly, all the people closest to me affected by the fire are Ok,” he said in a statement shared via his rep. “My daughter, my family, my neighbors all made it out safely. Sadly my beautiful home did not survive the fires. But today, I feel incredibly lucky to be surrounded by the people I love.”
Jackson’s Topanga Canyon home, which he bought in 2001, was one of those destroyed by the Palisades Fire, which broke out Tuesday morning. It has burned through some 23,000 acres.
At least 24 people have died in the fires, with 16 more missing. The biggest fires are the Palisades Fire, which is near Brentwood, and the Eaton Fire. As of Sunday morning, 11 percent of the Palisades fire and 27 percent of the Eaton fire had been contained.

Now, in Rome’s famed Cinecittà studios, another legendary Italian supercar manufacturer is being immortalized in Moresco’s Maserati: The Brothers, with Italian actor Michele Morrone playing one of the three siblings who founded the trident brand in 1914. (Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia and Jessica Alba also star.)
The producer behind all three films, 37-year-old Italian Canadian Andrea Iervolino, is bringing these automotive origin stories to the screen at a time when Hollywood is going motor mad. Witness the forthcoming F1 starring Brad Pitt, or the recently announced Austin Butler and Tom Holland movie American Speed, or the fresh rumors that Tom Cruise plans to reboot his 1990 NASCAR movie Days of Thunder.
