Tomo Aizawa, a tomboy girl, confesses her love to her childhood friend Kubota Junichirou. However, he mistakes her confession as a casual assurance of friendship between boys, disgruntling her. Later, Tomo asks her best friend Misuzu Gundou for advice. Misuzu says she has rightly portrayed herself as a boy because of her lack of femininity. Sometime later, both Kubota and Misuzu forget their umbrellas, and wait for Tomo to walk them home. Later on, two girls try to approach Kousuke Misaki, the captain of the boys' karate club, after school, but they see him with Tomo. They later talk to Tomo at her classroom, saying they want to meet after school, but she mistakes this for a challenge to fight.

After Tomo gets groped by an old man on the bus, Jun suggests that she should wear slacks instead of a skirt. Later, Tomo runs into Kousuke and Carol Olston, a half-English classmate who is popular with the boys, in the hallway. Carol begins picking on her, and sees her as a rival.

Tomo is shocked to learn that Jun and Misuzu briefly dated in middle school. Tomo then decides to ask Jun out on a date herself.

Tomo wants to experience some girly interaction, like hugging and hand-holding, so she tries it with all of her girlfriends.

Carol invites Tomo and Misuzu to her house, which turns out to be a giant mansion with a maze-like front yard. Later, with midterm exams coming up, Misuzu invites Tomo and Carol to come to her house to study.

Jun flashes back to when he first met Tomo. Later, Tomo and her friends head to the beach where Tomo tries to get closer to Jun by putting on a swimsuit.

Tomo receives a wide range of birthday presents from her friends. Misuzu and Carol invite Tomo to Misuzu's house, where they proceed to give her a complete makeover. They then make Tomo buy ice cream at a local convenience store while still dolled up. Later, Tomo is preparing for an upcoming school dodgeball tournament, but because of her incredible strength, she is put on the same boys team as Jun.

Tomo is challenged by Misuzu to attend the upcoming fireworks festival with Junichiro. She nervously asks him to go with her, and he agrees. Later, the gang targets Misuzu to get back at Tomo.

Carol mistakenly believes Kousuke is attracted to Tomo, so she goes into Jun's house to make him jealous.

Tomo wants to earn money for a birthday present for Jun, so she works part-time at the ramen restaurant owned by Tanabe's family. Later, their class prepares for a play.

Tomo and Jun are excited to run in their school's marathon.

After the play, Tomo and Jun dance together next to the bonfire, where he hints heavily he likes her. However, Tomo runs away, and over the following days, she hangs out with him normally, but gets flustered when he brings back the subject.

Jun reveals to Tomo that her dad will only give his blessing to date her if Jun defeats him in a karate match.
