Captain America: Brave New World makes its debut

Tickets have gone on sale for Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World, starring Anthony Mackie in the titular role. (His journey from playing the Falcon, aka Sam Wilson, to replacing Chris Evans as the iconic Captain America was explained in Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in 2021.) Brave New World marks the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the first since Deadpool & Wolverine last July. It will be released in U.S. theaters on Feb. 14. Watch the 90-second trailer below:

Directed by Julius Onah, Marvel Studios describes the movie as a “gripping, action-packed, political thriller.” After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford), who’s “no fan of heroes,” Mackie’s character finds himself at the center of an international incident. Fellow cast members for Captain America: Brave New World include Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Giancarlo Esposito as Seth Voelker/Sidewinder, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/The Leader.

Greta Gerwig‘s Narnia gets streaming-theatrical hybrid release

The next movie from Barbie filmmaker Greta Gerwig is based on C. S. LewisThe Chronicles of Narnia books, and will open in about 1,000 Imax screens over Thanksgiving 2026 before coming to Netflix on Christmas Day, per Puck. This marks a historic first for the streamer, which prefers at-home release structures and almost never shows its original movies in Imax theaters. Netflix acquired the rights to Lewis’ book series in October 2018, and Matthew Aldrich was brought on board in June 2019 to help steer the ship. Gerwig officially signed on in July 2023 to be the writer and director of at least two Narnia films for the streamer.

Gerwig is reportedly going to shoot the as-yet-untitled project using both regular and Imax cameras. In addition, the streamer will market Narnia as a theatrical Netflix-Imax movie. Gerwig’s name in the industry certainly has some extra clout nowadays, considering she directed the highest-grossing movie of 2023, Barbie, and received an Oscar nomination for writing the screenplay with her husband, Noah Baumbach. Prior to that, she received Oscar bids for writing Little Women (2019) and both writing and directing Lady Bird (2017).

The Traitors Season 3 sets ratings records for Peacock

Apparently murder sells. The third season of the Emmy-winning reality TV show The Traitors, hosted by Alan Cumming, premiered as the No. 1 unscripted series in the U.S., according to Nielsen. In all, 499 million minutes were consumed for the entire series for the week of Jan. 6 to Jan. 12. The third season, which premiered Jan. 9, is already Peacock’s most-watched unscripted debut to date, with a 67 percent increase in viewership the week of launch, compared to Season 2. In addition, social volume for Season 3 is up 15 percent from last season’s premiere.

As of this writing, there are still three Traitors left in the castle — Rob Mariano, Danielle Reyes, and Carolyn Wiger — and their job is to secretly murder the other players before they are caught and banished at the round table.
