MyDubz & Dub Idren - Black Desert

 

Colombian artist Dub Idren returns with a new track entitled Black Desert, a heavyweight tune in a collaboration with the French producer MyDubz, which for sure will be a favorite among the sound system Culture. 

MyDubz is a French reggae dub composer/producer who creates music at the crossroads of styles. Inspired by UK Dub, Electro Dub and Bass Music, he has developed a unique sound identity where powerful bass lines blend with electronic textures and organic rhythms.

His music pays tribute to sound system culture while asserting a modern and personal approach to dub music.

Munay Ki Dub meets Thriakis Dub Destroyer - Bad Babylon (Thriakis Remix)

Munay Ki Dub, the electronic dub trio from the mountains of central Argentina (Rebecca Clements (vocals, violin, melodica, keyboard and percussion), Alejo González (programming, keyboard, bass, effects and vocals) and Roby Torcello (guitar), returns with a new single/remix of their 2019 tune Bad Babylon. 

The 2024 remix is done by Thriakis Dub Destroyer.

Founded in 2006, Thriakis Dub Destroyer is a one-man-dub project from Paris, France. Influenced by urban electronic sounds and the Reggae/dub universe, he has been working to create, define and get a solid and unique music style.

Influenced by the Electro-Dub movement, he uses his experience to produce a dub that goes further than tags and genres, adding new ways of experimentation.

Shaky Norman meets Clement Roots - Where Is The Love

 

The French melodica virtuoso Shaky Norman is returns with Where Is The Love, a very personal tune in an acoustic reggae style, fusing reggae with folk elements. Composed and produced by Shaky Norman himself, the tune is a collaboration with Clement “Mystic” Roots on the vocals.

Clement Roots also known as “Mystic”, was born in the early 60s in St. Lucia, West Indies. He is based in London UK and is bassist of the band Jah Time International and also performs live as a vocalist on many sound systems in the UK.

 

Red Star Martyrs ft. Zion Irie - Rootsman

The UK producer Stanley Woodfield, better known under the project-name Red Star Martyrs, has been one of the most active artists since the start of our label.  After having released two EPs, I & I (2013) and Time for Tea (2014), contributing in the compilation United as One (2014) and releasing his album Red Star Martyrs (2016) there was a silence!

 

He is one of those producers who needs to have this constructive silence to gather energy and new inspirations … and today we are happy to announce his new single. 

 

His new track is entitled Rootsman and it is presented in three cuts: Two vocal versions in a roots and jungle style, and the obligatory dub version. 

 

The vocals are presented by the lyrical Zion Irie, another old acquaintance of the label, who has been active with us since the creation of Dubophonic. 

 

Med Dred & Shaky Norman - Forward Melodicas

Written by Shaky Norman and Med Dred, Forward Melodicas is the new outernational collaboration between Cyprus and France. The tune is written by the two melodica virtuosos, herewith opening year 2023 with more positive vibes.
 
Both artists have already a rich discography on digital and vinyl releases and need no special introduction.
 
The new tune is presented as usual in the original version and the dub version by Med Dred, staying true to the culture of roots reggae music.

Med Dred & Shaky Norman - Flying Melodicas

Seven years after the release of King Solomon’s Dub back in 2015, the two acknowledged melodica players Med Dred from Cyprus and Shaky Norman from France, both with a bright musical background, meet again and introduce a brand-new instrumental tune, composed, arranged, mixed and mastered by Med Dred. 

 

Based on a new roots reggae riddim written by Med Dred, Flying Melodicas is a playful musical reasoning with the two melodica players complementing each other in a fun and soulful way!

 

The riddim is presented in two versions: the original instrumental version and the obligatory special dub cut by Med Dred and it is available from all major online stores for streaming and download.

 

Sax N Dub meets Zion Irie - New Generation

Multi instrumentalist and producer Sax N Dub from Montevideo Uruguay has been playing on the sound system scene with his own productions and international collaborations since 2014, with participation in may international festivals such as Dub Camp (France), Dub Stone (Italy) Manuel dub (Sicily), Ecologikal Reggae and Reggae Live Festival (Mexico) among others.

 

Having more than 20 publications on cd, digital and vinyl and numerous collaborations with labels such as Black Redemption (USA) Bass Revelation, Invasion records and Green Beats (Mexico) and Stepping Stone (Argentina), he appears for the first appearance on Dubophonic Records with his new album New Generation, teaming up with Zion Irie on the vocals, a long-time label family artist.

 

Zion Irie, born and grew up in UK/South London (Brixton) in an African Ghana household, has already a rich musical history: collaborations with many artists (Ackboo, Kanka, Weeding Dub, Dubsynaticx, Komadub, Negritage, Red Star Martyrs, Ashley), sharing the stage with names like Horace Andy, Brother Culture and a having a few releases and appearances on our label.

 

Focusing now on the New Generation album, it consists of nine tracks written and produced in a dub-steppa militant way and presented in a showcase style: three vocal tunes featuring Zion Irie demonstrating one more time his conscious lyrical flow, three versions with the sax talking over the mix, a trademark of Sax N Dub and three heavyweight dubs!

Moune - The Legacy Of The Sun

Moune (pronounced “moon”) is a 21-year-old French artist who produces electronic and instrumental dub. He started to play the guitar in 2008 and discovered electronic music in 2014. After many experiments with very different styles like hip-hop, house, trance, glitch hop and electro swing, he finally started to create dubwize music in 2017.

Being a multi-instrumentalist, Moune plays guitar, melodica, saxophone, flute and percussions. He also uses his voice in some of his compositions, sending out his conscious message.

He loves to mix the dubwize/electronic sounds with acoustic instruments and ethnic melodies, which results in the creation of very melodic and energetic dubwise music ... and all this produced in his bedroom studio!

The Legacy Of The Sun is the first release of Moune on the label. It includes altogether five tracks; two with vocals by Moune himselfand three instrumentals, all with a heavy ethnic dubwise feeling. All five tracks of the EP are composed, mixed and performed by Moune himself.

The best way to describe the style of this young French artist is not with words. You have to listen to it yourself and we are sure you will enjoy his musical adventure.

Med Dred meets Shaky Norman - King Solomon's Dub

It is with great joy that Dubophonic hosts in this release two of the most prolific artists and acknowledged melodica players of Europe. Representing Cyprus, long time friend and resident Dubophonic artist Med Dred takes over the right channel of the recording, showcasing his original Mediterranean-style play on the alto melodica, while on the left channel the worldwide acknowledged French artist Shaky Norman shines through his performance on the soprano melodica, polished by his 25-year experience in music. They are accompanied by Dub Caravan on the electric guitar and the bass, a fine addition indeed!
"King Solomon's Dub" is based on an original one-drop roots reggae riddim, composed, arranged, mixed and mastered by Med Dred, and co-produced by Med Dred and Dub Caravan. The riddim is presented in three different versions and is available from all major online stores and also on cd in limited quantities.

"King Solomon's Melodica Duet" is what it says: a playful musical reasoning in a strictly meditation style, with the two melodica players engaging in a "question and answer" game, improvising on the chords and completing each other, while Dub Caravan sets the pace through his basslines. The next two versions lead into deeper meditation, taking the vibes into new levels. Med Dred’s “hybrid dubwize” version accomplishes this through digital and analogue techniques, while Dub Caravan serves a strictly analogue version, using deep echoes and playful reverb!

Zion Dirty Sound - Celebrity Fever

Djibril and Faida are back. Two years after the first release Fils d’ Abraham, the French duo Zion Dirty Sound return with a new EP. Based on the track Celebrity Fever already released on their first LP, Dubophonic is re-releasing that same riddim in a new creative approach.

It took a long time for this project to be completed. Main reason, was the many artists involved in this project. The stems of the riddim traveled from France to all around the world, to places near and far. Countries like Cyprus, Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland, Russia, USA and Japan are participating in this project. The riddim was then reworked or dubbed and then sent back to the Zion Dirty Sound headquarters in France for the final mixing and “necessary tweaking”.

The result is a compilation eight new songs, each and every one based on the same “celebrity” riddim, but each and every one completely different in terms of creativity. Starting with Zion Dirty Sound’s 2015 version of Celebrity Fever titled Cumbia Fever, the riddim is dubbed by Nadoo (FR), vocalised in English by the dancehall artist Afro D (RUS) and in Japanese by sister Erika Crymson (JAP). Master See’s (USA) approach ina Nyabinghi style is lyric-wise and rythm-wise a strong slap to Babylon. Equally conscious is the version of Jazzmin Tutum (GER), an artist representing the often so neglected sub-genre of Dub Poetry. Peter Chaves (SP) and Michel Melody (POL) team up for a melodica dub version of the riddim. Last but not least we have included the irie sound of Murjah Warriors (ITA) improvising skilfully on the mandolin, perhaps the most creative version of all.

All cuts are composed with lots of love and this can be heard on every tune. But most important is the fact that all tracks flow nicely together. We hope that you will play this ep may times, since each cut has a different vibe and you will always find the most appropriate one for each situation.

Mexican Stepper - Run & Tell REMIXED

After his first release on Dubophonic and following his recent European tour, the international artist from Mexico Yasser Serano, better known as Mexican Stepper, returns with another heavyweight track. Based on the same concept of the Mad Sunday EP, Yasser introduces his new tune “Run & Tell” and calls in these times of tribulation the Peruvian singer Rebel-I for vocal assistance, running and telling to the four corners of the world that Babylon is falling down. Originally the title track has been included in Mexican Stepper’s digital LP “Piramide del Sol” from last year released on the French netlabel Original Dub Gathering.

Since Dubophonic likes to experiment and stir things together, we have called assistance from our extended family of artists and asked them to spread the conscious message of the tune in their own style and fashion. The result was twelve exclusive versions of the original tune, reconstructed and mixed all around the world, strengthening the bonds and proving one more time, that conscious dub music is an international thing. Among all versions there is one special dubplate by Mexican Stepper and five remixes by Injham (FR), Thriakis Dub Destroyer (FR), Koncrete Roots (UK), JahYu (GER) and Mr Zebre (FR), as well as six alternative cuts/dubs by Du3normal (HUN), Holy Sound Crew (FR), Murjah Warriors (ITA), Dubios (GER), Mr Mefistou (PR) and Ktopp (GER).

Which is your favourite? You may prefer Mr Zebre’s warrior style vibration or the rootically inspired remix of Thriakis Dub Destroyer. Perhaps it’s the organic skunking melody of the Murjah Warriors, armed with a mandolin and a melodica ina “Renaissance” steppa style, that will carry you away inna cloud of irieness … or the heavy vibrations of Koncrete Roots and Injham. Perhaps the correct question should be “Which one is our favourite?” Well, all twelve versions are heavy enough to set Babylon on fire. So play them LOUD! It remains to you to discover the vibes hidden behind each version!

Dubophonic meets Dubkey - United As One

The idea of collaborating with other netlabels has been long into the minds of Dub Thomas from Dubophonic and Manwel Tabone from Dubkey Records. Like a netlabel is a family of artists under a common roof, the two originators wanted to expand this family idea on the next level, creating an expanded family between the netlabels themselves. This is the first step for more collaboration between like-minded artists

The result of this collaboration is more than just a mere compilation of tracks. All the tunes have been written and produced from scratch, exclusive for this release and the riddims were written by the artists of both labels. The “raw” material was exchanged between the two netlabels, the vocal messages were added and then once again the tracks travelled back to the other side for the dubs and remixes. So basically every single track has been made with the contribution of artists from both sides in an organic and productive way.

The release consists of 4 riddims by Red Star Martyrs, Ashley, Med Dred and Negritage, all presented in 4 different cuts each. Vocalised by Zion Irie & Singer Tempa and dubbed/mixed accordingly ina roots and culture style. Special mixes were included by Jah Rootikal Steppers and Manwel Tabone himself. Nuff respect FDub Caravan for the live bass and guitars on the Roots-o-pohonic riddim (tracks 9 & 10). Last but definitely not least, the irie melodica of Mind’s Eye Dub on the Negritage riddim, blows away the badness and sends positive vibrations of I-nity and One-ness.

Various Artists - Explorations in Dub

The first compilation of dub-o-phonic is a musical journey to some unknown areas of dub music. Compiled by Dub Thomas, “Explorations in Dub” tries to find the hidden elements of dub music in musical genres, where under normal circumstances no dub is existent. This release might not comply with the “conventional” dub reggae as we know it. Being the tenth release of the label, Dub Thomas selects tracks with a strong experimental musical vibe, staying truthful to the future sound of the label.

The compilation includes seventeen tracks from artists scattered in the various corners of the globe, from Cyprus to the French West Indies: Daidalos One (CY), SXtheMadArtist (CY), Ras Robin Dennis (CY), Dub-I (RUS), Dub Riots (GR), Green Glow (MEX), Hernibernie (BEL), Knoto (JP), Mr Mefistou (PR), Negro Pirana (MEX), Rakoon (FR), Red Barrio (ES), Roots Dubbing Project (BRA), The Dubbstyle (ARG), Twixymillia (FWI) and Dub Across Borders (DEN).

Included in this compilation is Dub-I’s “Rididub Master” in a new extended version, serving not only as a musical flashback to our first release, but also as a starting point for the dubs to follow, while the jazz/ambient tracks of Hernibernie and SXtheMadArtist (the cover art designer of the release) are perhaps at the highest innovation point. Knoto manages to strip a famous reggae song down to its basic beat elements keeping the melody as a sweet buzz in your head. Daidalos One offers an atmospheric intermission, Ras Robbin Denis fuses an ethnic/ambient feel, Dub Across Borders blips and clicks, Negro Pirana dubs the blues, Mr Mefistou builds up slowly a dubbed step, Green Glow steps it up, Twixymillia rewinds it, while Dub Riots, Roots Dubbing Project, The Dubbstyle, Rakoon and Red Barrio transform irie melodies into experimental dubscapes.

Jennifer Paulos - Revolution

After the United Kingdom and France, perhaps the most promising rising force of the Reggae & Dub scene in the European world of vibes is Spain. One of the most talented new artists is without doubt Jennifer Paulos and it is really a pleasure to present her latest work on our netlabel.

Born in Ponferrada, Spain, the Hispano-Swiss-Portuguese artist has started releasing her first works back in 2010 with Hide Side on “Corrupzion in Zion” (2010) and since then she is moving only forwards. The collaborations with the local Spanish artist Dub Presidents, who produced her first album “The trial of the Self” (2010), as well as with Mystic Selectah (2012) from Madrid, were the starting point in her musical path. It was only a matter of time she would accomplish her international breakthrough through her collaborations with Izi Dub (FR) and Hi Fi Champion (CAN) in 2013.

Her first work on Dubophonic is called “Revolution” and consists of nine tracks of pure consciousness, among them a version of a classic Tappa Zukie tune. Sang in Spanish and English, she uses her warm voice as a trademark of her Mediterranean oriented sound spreading to all listeners the funky vibes of her soul. Alongside with her you can find some exclusive dubs by the Dub Presidents (ES), Svaha Sound System (UK), Mat DT Sound (FR) / Woody Vibes (FR) / Cloud of Vib's (FR) & Mystic Selectah (SP), as well as a special bonus track by Dave Doma (ES). Mexican Stepper - The Mad Sunday

Dubophonic introduces Mexican Stepper. Born in Mexico, Yasser Serano has been into music since his childhood. His anxiety to contribute to the reggae and dub scene led him into participating in many festivals in Mexico with important recognitions. Tapping into different rhythms but mainly with stepper productions, Yasser introduces 2009 his Mexican Stepper project with the intention of creating a new dub proposal in his homeland Mexico. Little he knew that his sound would soon overcome the borders of his country and spread like a virus all around the world. Living proof of this is the willingness of many artists from all around the world to join his effort, offering their own musical interpretations on Yasser’s tune.

Mexican Stepper’s first EP consists of the title track “Mad Sunday”, a hard stepper tune with an ethnic feel, accompanied by an ever so exiting dub cut. Just to step it up a bit more, we included some exclusive remixes by artists who were already introduced on previous releases like Dub-I (RUS) and Negritage (ARG), but also by Dubophonic newcomers Svaha Sound System (UK), Injham (FR), Mr. Lion AKA Jahstyle (CAN) and Mr Mefistou (PR).

Each track is more than just a remix. It is a brand new interpretation of the main tune with each artist reconstructing the basic tune according to his unique style. Negritage makes a dirty rough rootical stepper out of it, Dub-I transforms the hard stepper into a musical dub experiment, Mr Mefistou incorporates the revolutionary speech of the Bolivian president Evo Morales after the trouble he faced in Europe due to his pro Snowden attitude, while Injham introduces a complete recut of the tune. Zion Dirty Sound - Fils d' Abraham

The story of Djirbil and Faida is like a fairy tale and is just as amazing as their music. Djibril was born in the suburbs of Paris back in 1986 and started making music by playing guitar, bass and drums in punk rock bands in the north of France and Belgium, while later he landed from punk to reggae/dub/jungle through some friends who were operating a sound system. The other half of the band, Faida AKA Sister Raphaelle, was born 1986 in Mamoudzou, Comoros, between Madagascar and Mozambique. She started singing from childhood, influenced by the soul of the African music. 1996 she arrives to France to live in the suburbs of Paris.

The two got closer together during one of their gigs as members of the Acoustic Groove Orchestra and their love story has led into marriage. Their new life was accompanied by the creation of a new band, 2 years ago. Since then they are composing and recording their own music in their own home studio under the name of Zion Dirty Sound.

Their music is an amalgamation of different styles and is the result of the different cultures they both represent. The African/Comodian roots blend with the Europrean/French music, all fused nicely with arab/indian/latino culture, influenced by their social life and their travels around the world. Add a touch of dub and you got magic going through your ears!

“Fils d’ Abraham” is a compilation of Zion Dirty Sound’s best music from previous releases and from tracks scattered around the internet, plus we exclusively included four brand new tracks.
