iGL & Alecho - Revolution

iGL & Alecho  is an electronic music project from Athens, Greece, consisting of Konstantinos & Alexandra. The duo made its first appearance on Dubophonic Records during its live session at the Lockdown Online Festival, while their track “Time Capsule” was included in the compilation “Explorations In Dub / Lockdown dub” in year 2020. They also released in 2021 their debut album “From A Droplet”.

Their new EP is entitled “Revolution” and includes six tracks in a fine dubwise style, fusing roots reggae and dub music with electro-dub and blurring the musical boundaries. We have also included a special remix by Indamouse. It is available for free download from Bandcamp.

 

Culture Horn & Sammy Gold - Jah Creator

Culture Horn Sound System return with a brand-new EP entitled Jah Creator. 

For this release, the heavyweight sound system from the town of Kremenki in the Kaluga region in Russia, teams up with the mighty Sammy Gold to deliver a fresh vibe!  

Sammy Gold has been in the scene since the late 70s, when he started as a toaster and later in the 80s as a singer. Getting his influence from artists like Dennis Brown, Jacob Miller and Rod Taylor, he worked with many producers like Rus Muffet, Ras Kuntus and High Elements releasing music on Roots Injection, Cubiculo Records and many other labels.

Jah Creator is offered for free download from Bandcamp. As it usual in most of the releases of Culture Horn, the first composition is in a dubplate style and the second composition is the main track. Each track includes the obligatory dub version. The compositions were recorded back in 2016 and since then they have been played on various dances and streamed in radio broadcasts.

The EP is dedicated to Jah and his deeds. Peace and love to all. 

Menilek - Son Of Solomon

Menilek is a dub reggae producer and instrumentalist from USA. He inspired by roots reggae dub in the vein of the legends: Scratch Perry, Scientist, and King Tubby to name a few.

Named after the legendary emperor, who according to the 14th century national epic Kebra Negast is said to have inaugurated the Solomonic Dynasty of Ethiopia, son of the biblical King Solomon of ancient Israel and of Makeda, the Queen of Sheba, 

Menilek's  debut album is entitled Son of Solomon' and it is a love letter to the late 70s and early 80s dubs that inspired him to start producing and performing reggae music. 

The album includes seven tracks in a deep dubwise style influenced by the traditional roots reggae dub and is offered for free download from Bandcamp and for streaming on all main platforms.

Muflon Dub Soundsystem - King Love Dub Sessions

Muflon Dub Soundsystem, the musical project from Poland, delivering positive Dub and Roots Reggae inspired sounds since early 2000s, returns with another piece of musical work, consisting of ten mellow, uplifting Dub tunes. King Love Dub Sessions is the dub side of a previous Muflon Dub's production called Król Miłość (King Love), which was self released in 2020. 

From the album title you can expect some sweet vibes, lovers rock style. But it's not the whole truth. Because Love is not just a feeling between two people. Love, as Muflon Man believes, is an ultimate force that binds this world together. Moreover, Love is a Person who actually cares of everyone here on Earth. His name is JAH.

This message reverberates on King Love Dub Sessions: Positivity plus consciousness and joyful vibe. To get you just a little hint of what the songs are about, we give you a short translation of choruses:

Culture Horn - Dublaboratory, Vol. 1

Culture Horn Sound System, the heavyweight sound system from the town of Kremenki in the Kaluga region in Russia, was build back in 2012. Gathering at least a dozen of musicians around it, it formed a big musical family from all over Russia. Armed with dubplates from local and international artists produced exclusively for Culture Horn, they are celebrating this year their 10thn anniversary.

This is a special release, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the sound system, with tracks accompanied the dances for the last 10 years.
 
For this release we have compiled a collection of four of the most popular dubs played during the dances, accompanied by their versions. These are all fire steppers produced by the Culture Horn dub laboratory and offered for free download to all the fans and followers to celebrate with them this special occasion!  

 

  

 

Creation Rockers - Let's Make Waves

We continue digging into the lost archives of Springline Records, one of the most underrated reggae and dub labels of the UK, which has been operational from 2003 until 2012. With artists coming mainly coming from the UK underground, the style of the label was strongly influenced by the Jamaican roots music of the 70s with a sound very kin to that of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s Black Ark studio. After 10 years of operation, two vinyl releases and many tapes and digital releases the label stopped its operations in 2013, with the owner of the label Gibsy Rhodes deciding to put an end to that musical adventure. What is left nowadays are some articles/reviews on the internet and some music scattered online, reminding the era of a great label, which unfortunately did not get the recognition it deserved, as well as a usb stick handed over to us by Gisby Rhodes, with some musical treasures from that time: demos, unreleased and rare tracks.

Recorded in the legendary CAF Studios, Let’s Make Waves and Soul Fighter by the band Creation Rockers were originally released in 2012 as an extended play. The band members were Brad Τurner aka The Manor (also member of Foshan Roots) on the guitar & vocals, Alan Blizzard aka Yabass also on guitar & vocals, Drummie Dan on the drums & vocals and Papa D on the keyboards. Ten years later, we shine some light on this obscure release, keeping the original artwork but including for the first time three rare tracks, which were not included in the original release.

Creation Rockers are The Manor (Guitar, Vocal), Yabass (Guitar, Vocal), Drummie Dan (Drums, Vocal) and Papa D (Keyboards).

Chebeen Teriya - Douhaou

Chebeen Teriya is a unique 5 piece band lead by singer/multi-instrumentalist Dramane Bakwan, who brings original music from his homeland of Burkina Faso. From a young age, Dramane participated in the sacred musical traditions of the Gourounsi people of Burkina Faso (West Africa). His insatiable appetite for music drove him to study the myriad of rhythms and melodies of ethnic groups throughout the region. A love of country and continent has inspired him to write over one hundred original songs with lyrics in five languages. His work explores social, environmental, and political themes with the aim of inspiring people to take care of one another and the planet they share.  

 

The album Douhaou is their second release on the label. Nevertheless, this album was chronologically written before the EP Ajabro, which was released last year.  It was written in 2018 and was the first time we got connected with Chebeen’s music. It is written in the Djula language (spoken in Burkina Faso, Mali and Ivory Coast) and includes nine tracks in an afro-fusion style, sung by the band’s frontman Dramane Bakwan. 

 

Dramane explains: “Douhaou means benediction or blessings and the album is about social issues. Sabary talks about forgiveness as the way forward in life. Diy is about remembering your roots and honouring your culture as well as those of others. Bimogo is about hypocrisy in politics. Pogo-nere is a love song and Africa is for the whole continent, to unify behind our causes.”

Messian Dread - Maranatha (dub & discomix)

Introducing Messian Dread, a versatile personality from the Netherlands: Producer, singer, player of instruments, writer, reviewer, selector, and editor/webmaster of DUBROOM.org, perhaps the longest running platform/netlabel, that promotes Dub Reggae and Consciousness" since 1997, where many artists have contributed to throughout the decades.

Somewhere in 1979-1980 Messian Dread discovered Reggae and especially the Dub variety. He was around 15 at that time and everything was quite different. The music and the sound was new, back then. You had the Mad Professor dubbing everyone crazy, the Scientist was introduced in the now legendary Greensleeves series. It was also the time of the extended versions aka Discomixes.

Early 1987, Messian Dread started a band and also began to experiment with dub, his great musical love. In 1997, ten years after he started to make music, Messian Dread started to publish his music world-wide through the Internet. Nowadays this seems a very normal and typical way to promote music, but back in those days with no Facebook or Soundcloud, it was not. In fact, it was frowned upon. Messian Dread can therefore be considered a pioneer in what has become normal now: independent artists producing their Dub & Reggae music online, from their heart to the heart of the listener.

His music has been played worldwide, throughout the decades. Next to his own Dubroom Label, the first chapter in the "Roots of Dub Funk" series had a quite successful track called "Jah Glory", an album called "Showcase" was released through Star Recordings and the "Dub Buds" (Phoenix Records) compilation had a track called "Transgenics Dub. Until today one of the hardest Steppa compilations ever released. or at least an online cult classic.

The music of Messian Dread is Roots Reggae. Even though he produces his music in a digital way, you'll hear his own roots are in the 1980's. Roots Reggae in the orthodox way, with conscious lyrics that often leave no question mark but definitely food for thought … and dub! It is very hard to find a vocal tune from Messian Dread and no Dub version that comes with it. In fact, one could say that Messian Dread is keeping the tradition of the 'Discomixes' where you'll get a vocal track and Dub version in one long mix alive. His obsession with long mixes comes from the 1980's you remember them too, the 12" versions, and he has always loved the extended versions in Reggae and also in the electronic music.

Maranatha was originally released in 2007 as a free download and we are proud to present you a (F)re(e)-issue of the track as an introduction to Messian Dread’s works and as an appetizer for the releases to follow. Tune starts with Dub and militant vibe and ends with the vocals. The track was definitely inspired by the so called riots which are really uprisings that were going on in 2006. Even more today.

Roots Reggae sounds best when it is mixed in the good way. The best way to mix Roots Reggae is in Dubwise style. Messian Dread's music is pure conscious Roots Reggae, mixed with the purpose of feeling the vibe always in a deeper and deeper way the more you listen. Music to listen to. To experience.

Muflon Dub Soundsystem - In Love With Righteousness / 2005-2014 Best Dubs Compilation

Muflon Dub Soundsystem is a musical project from Poland, delivering positive Dub and Roots Reggae inspired sounds since early 2000s, with a modern approach, lightweight harmonies, heavy drum and bass lines, simplicity with a touch of poetry, creative ideas with conscious message. 

 

The album In Love With Righteousness is a compilation of their best Dub tracks, recorded between 2005 and 2014. We can hear the evolution of their style and some of the most characteristic features of their sound (mellow vibe, steady riddim, catchy basslines, thrilling vocal lines). Most of the tracks of the compilation are included in their previous releases, which are available for free through their webpage and also on their Jamendo and Bandcamp page.

 

The album includes also Showered Ina Jah Jah Rain Dub, a previously unreleased Dub version of the tune of the same name, appearing on the album Everland. Actually, many of the songs from this compilation have their Reggae counterparts with mellow vocals and conscious lyrics, to be found in different past releases of Muflon Dub Soundsystem. What they all have in common, is the message: got to be in love with Righteousness!

Culture Horn & Gun Power - Feel It

Gun Power is a music band from Moscow. Nevertheless, the band was born in Thailand in 2017 by travelling musicians, who were playing in reggae bars all around Koh Samui and Koh Phangan islands. After returning to Russia, they decided to keep groovin' together and that’s how Gun Power was founded.

In 2019 Gun Power started working with Culture Horn Sound System, recording compositions that the CHSS team worked on. Later the same year, the band started to experiment with the sound, making improvisational concerts, playing over with jazz, dub, funk, instrumental "chillrave." In 2020, as a result of the pandemic times, the band was reshaped. But despite these changes, Gun Power is still working on events and a studio album.

This release is the result of their collaboration with Culture Horn Sound System and includes two songs and two dubs, following the format of all the releases of Culture Horn. The first tune is a rework of the classic anthem of Althea and Donna in a discomix style, while the title track Feel It is their first song ever released, written in a lovers rock style. Both tracks are accompanied by the obligatory dub mixes.

iGL & Alecho - From A Droplet

iGL & Alecho is an electronic music project from Athens, Greece, consisting of Konstantinos & Alexandra. The duo made its first appearance on Dubophonic Records during its live session at the Lockdown Online Festival, while their track “Time Capsule” was included in the compilation “Explorations In Dub / Lockdown dub” in year 2020.

From A Droplet” is their debut album release. It is the story of a small atomic structure and its journey to the stars. So significant was this molecule’s appearance it would change worlds and be the matrix of life on this planet. It is a conceptual dub album revolving around the journey of life, from the water to the stars, as it is described through the titles of the tracks, but also through the inspiring artwork. 

 

A special moment in the album is the track “Limbs”, which includes a melody from Barrington Levy’s “Shine eye Girl”, which is completely reworked. We have also included as a bonus a bonus remix by Indamouse.

Dub Cmd - Lost Transmissions

Lost Transmissions is a collection of music created by Dub Cmd in 2019, which we never released, since the original files were never available to us ... the pc on which the productions were done was stolen and with it all the music. We have nevertheless managed to find the latest versions before the files were "lost" and we decided to share it to everybody as a free download 

 

This small musical treasure includes self-released or unreleased work of the artist, as well as some collaboration with O.L.M. from Italy and "deep music" specialist Mantsche from Austria with his first appearance on the label. These tracks were never released before! Explorations in Dub Vol.2 / Lockdown Dub

The first Explorations In Dub compilation was released back in year 2013, showcasing the works of many artists from around the world and their personal approach on dub music. In the present time of  COVID-19, most producers have been in a lockdown. Nevertheless their  creativity did not stop and some fresh ideas started to sprout while in isolation. So it was time, seven years later, for a Vol. 2, showcasing again many great outernational projects.

Aza Lineage & Culture Horn - I Give Thanks

Culture Horn Sound System, the heavyweight Russian dub sound system from the town of Kremenki in the Kaluga region in Russia, returns with a new EP. After the first release in year 2018 and the great feedback it received from listeners all around the world (I am a Rootsman was awarded Best Album of 2018 in Russia and “Best Indie Artist” for Madi Simmons), the sound system crew returns with a new collaboration, this time featuring the Jamaican uprising artist Aza Lineage.

Aza Lineage was born to teenage parents in the harsh inner cities of Kingston, Jamaica in late 1980s. She grew up with her extended family with hergrandmother being the head of the household. Growing up Aza realized she could sing and would often do so for friends, schoolmates and family members. On searching she found Rastafari, the Energy she thanks for changing her thinking, brought African Spirituality to her awareness and connected her to her roots, hoping to impact people in a positive way through her music.

The new EP of Culture Horn includes six tracks: 2 vocals tracks and 4 instrumentals/dubs. The first one is a special dubplate on the Roots Radics Riddim, recorded exclusive for Culture Horn Sound System., followed by a flute version ft. Aktuch and the necessary dub. The second one is the title track. With lyrics to spark your mind, I Give Thanks is followed by a special melodica dub by Med Dred and a heavyweight cut by Culture Horn Sound System.We give thanks!

The Dubwegians - King of Dub

Two years after their first release South Of the River Clyde in 2018, the Scottish duo Gary Lamont and Richy Clark return with a second EP with more reworks of some of their favourite dub tracks. These reworks were written back in 2013 but never received the respect they deserved, suffering from lack of attention.

In this second EP entitled King Of Dub, they concentrate on the works of King Tubby, using the same approach recording wise as in South Of The River Clyde, trying to emulate some great King Tubby masterpieces. Richy played guitar, Garry played bass and covered all other sounds and the production, but this time the duo was enriched with the addition of Ian Borthwick on the drums.

That was the second and apparently the last try of The Dubwegians to establish themselves as a dub band. Unfortunately the project that Richy dreamed off in 2013, never really managed to pull off. It kind of fizzled out after a while as people came and went. Up for a jam and some good time but not up for putting in the hours of practice needed. We thought it would be nice to share these tunes, done a long time ago, and give them another lease of life! We hope you enjoy them!

Roots Masashi - Namah Shivaya

Roots Masashi is a Roots Rock / New Roots composer from Osaka, Japan. He drew his inspiration from friends in high school and fell in love with conscious reggae music.  He was fascinated by Osaka’s dub scene, especially after meeting the “Dub I Roots Crew” and “Rebel Culture” in 2012 and soon after, he started building “Roots Far I”, his own Sound System and Digital Live project, based in Kishiwada of South Osaka. His devotion to Roots Rock Reggae, New Roots and Dub guided him all around Japan, touring with the soundsystem and urging him to reach new musical heights

His first release on Dubophonic Records is a musical and holy salutation to the Auspicious, an adoration to the Most High. Based on one of the most important Mantras in the Shaivism tradition, Namah Shivaya is associated with qualities of prayer, divine-love, grace, truth, and blissfulness. It calms the mind and brings spiritual insight and knowledge. Traditionally, it is accepted to be a powerful healing mantra beneficial for all physical and mental ailments. “Na” sound represents the earth, “Mah” sound represents the water, “Shi” sound represents the fire, “Va” sound represents the air and “Ya” sound represents thesky. Its total meaning is that "universal consciousness is one". The recitation of these syllables is sound therapy for the body and nectar for the inner self and the soul.

Good Over Evil - Keep The Fire Burning

Good Over Evil Productions is a roots reggae project founded in Spain by the producers Jah Ivan and Dani Roots, the singer Sista Livity and Furi the manager. They come with a clear mission: to spread the Rastafari message by means of their music and their positive vibrations. Strictly Roots and Culture. Word, Sound and Power. Jah music to the people.

They have been releasing their work in different formats since 2008 on their own label (CD, Vinyl, Digital releases, etc.) alongside artists like Sista Livity, Anayah Roots Levi, Robel The Earthiopian (Reuben Addis), Ras Elijah Tafari, Raszor Brankata, Pato Ranking, Sista Moni and more.

It is a blessing that their new tune Keep the Fire Burning is being released on our label. You can feel the Good Over Evil's essence in a pure dub style. It is a militant tune, with a mystic atmosphere and remembrance of the mighty ancients sounds worldwide, that inspires a spiritual meditation for a deep connection with our inner self and with the most high God, almighty, creator of all life, Jah Rastafari. Dub Riots / Indamouse / Bluez - Creation

Dub Riots were formed in 2008 in Athens, Greece. They have been featured on a few compilations on Dubophonic (Explorations in Dub 2013, Legal Rmx 2016 and Reggae Sunjam Vol.I 2017 and Vol II 2018) and also on the Greek label Reggaewise with their first EP State Of Life in 2013. 

Having performed live as a dub duo all over Greece, but also in Cyprus, Belgium and Switzerland, it was about time to release their second EP and their first one on the label, doing their own dub-manipulations of some of the greatest reggae anthems. 

On this release they meet Indamouse aka 3voice, another member of the Reggaewise crew based as well in Athens; a selector and producer influenced by the Jamaican soundsystem culture and the UK stepper style. Alongside the mystical sound of Bluez on the melodica, they offer a fresh conception of well established tunes like Creation, Rat A Cut Bottle and A Still Tongue, tribute to the foundation artists of reggae music. The Dubwegians - South of the River Clyde

The Dubwegians where founded in the UK back in 2010, when Gary had the idea of starting a dub band. He, therefore, approached his old school friend Richy, whose guitar skills were always thought highly of. He just wanted to play bass in the band and not do any producing.

The band that Gary dreamed, never really managed to pull off. It kind of fizzled out after a while as people came and went, up for a jam and a smoke, but not up for putting in the hours of practice a band needs.

Gary and Richy decided to work as a duo, laying down some reworks of their favourite dub tracks. Having spent most of their life growing up in the south side of Glasgow, the River Clyde has been a great inspiration for them. This is how South of the River Clyde came about. The reference of course to the great Augustus Pablo is more than obvious.

Gary remembers: “We tried to capture the energy of a live band. In the absence of a drummer, it was a struggle for us to use a software, trying to capture the original warmth of analogue dub. It was a real learning experience; listening and trying to emulate these dub masterpieces. We have never done dub producing before and were slowly realizing some of the techniques used.”

South of the river Clyde includes 5 instrumental tracks; dub reworks of some great roots reggae masterpieces, produced back in 2011 with love and lots of passion. Richy played melodica and keyboards (and also guitar on "Sun is shining Dub), Gary played bass and covered all other sounds and production, using a laptop to overdub and edit their takes.
