Dwayne Johnson has revealed his future as Black Adam in the new DC Universe under James Gunn.
Black Adam was released in October and was a passion project for the former WWE Superstar that was 15 years in the making.
But with Guardians of the Galaxy director Gunn and The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran now co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, there's been a massive shake-up happening.
And this shake-up means that we won't be seeing Johnson's Black Adam again anytime soon.
In a statement posted to Twitter, Johnson said: "My passionate friends, I wanted to give you a long-awaited Black Adam update regarding the character's future in the new DC Universe.
"James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters."
"James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed," he continued.
"It's no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG. You guys know me, and I have very thick skin - and you can always count on me to be direct with my words. These decisions made by James and DC leadership represent their vision of DCU through their creative lens.
"After 15 years of relentless hard work to finally make Black Adam, I'm very proud of the film we delivered for fans worldwide. I will always look back on the fan reaction to Black Adam with tremendous gratitude, humility and love. We did great. To my very passionate and vocal Black Adam/Super Hero genre fans - I love you, THANK YOU, and I will ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOU and do my best to deliver and entertain you.
"What a helluva month - now we all need some Teremana. Have a productive week and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you and your families! DJ," Johnson concluded.
Black Adam featured Henry Cavill's return to the DC universe as Superman, something which Johnson himself fought hard for.
"This has been years in the making regarding bringing Henry Cavill back and years of strategic conversations and we were not going to take no for an answer," Johnson told fans last month.
"There was no way, there’s no viable logical way that you can attempt to build out the DC Universe without the most powerful force and the greatest superhero of all time sitting on the sidelines. It’s impossible to do."
Last week, Cavill shockingly announced he won't be back as Superman in the Worlds of DC after a meeting with Gunn and Safran.
"The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that," Cavill wrote on Instagram, announcing the news. "James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them, and all involved with the new universe, the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes."
Black Adam is out now in cinemas.
