DBLift

DBLift is an open-source database migration toolkit for Python teams. You write versioned migrations as plain SQL files (or Python for engines like MongoDB), commit them next to your code, and review them in PRs like everything else. DBLift applies them in order and records each one in a history table.

What you get in the free open-source tier

Preview before you apply. dblift migrate --dry-run --show-sql prints the exact statements that will run, so nobody finds out what a migration does in production.
Rollback. Undo files pair with migrations by version (U3__anything.sql reverses V3). dblift undo --target-version=2 rolls back, and --dry-run --show-sql shows the rollback SQL first. Flyway requires a Teams plan for the equivalent undo command. Undo restores structure, not data, so keep your backups.
Start from an existing database. baseline records where your database is today, so you can adopt versioned migrations without recreating its history.
Catch drift. validate flags migrations that were edited after they were applied.
Safe concurrent deploys. DBLift takes a migration lock so two deploys can't run at once.
Fits your pipeline. pip install dblift, then run it in GitHub Actions with dblift/action@v1. No JVM needed.
Who it's for

Python teams that want plain SQL reviewed in PRs, a dry run they can trust, and rollback without paying for it. It works alongside Django and Alembic, so you don't have to replace them.
