When CurlyPops announced the SewAlong, I really wanted to join in. But I’m not so sure the Lisette Dress would suit me. For one, I’m a bit busty and I would worry about how those gathers would emphasise that. Secondly, I NEVER show my arms. The Lisette Continental Dress is sleeveless and the world doesn’t need to see my upper arms. Ms CurlyPops encouraged me and said she’d seen some versions as a tunic style with a long sleeve t-shirt underneath it. I may make it for me but first I made it for my Middle Kid. Her upper arms are perfectly lovely, as is the rest of her.

Here is a close up of the print, which her Dad chose for her (at Spotlight, he begrudgingly takes me and always finds lovely fabric to suit the girls in our house).

Go to MsCurlyPops and have a look at the other Lisette Sew Along participants. She has listed all the finished dresses on the side of her blog.
Edited to add: The measurements I took said to make a size 14. Next time I will go for the size 12 for the Middle Kid, it’s quite loose (as is the style) and I also knew from other sew-along participants that the underarm area was a bit gapey, so I took those areas in using my “hack it and hope for the best” technique!

Stuffed up first batch of Easiyo

Marvelled at the horror and hilarity of this episode.

Sunday Snippets
And they really are all from today:
First two are what we are going to call JC & JC MAD (John Cusack and Joan Cusack Movie Appreciation Day) — We watched 16 Candles, High Fidelity and Say Anything. We would have watched Martian Child and Grosse Point Blank but we ran out of time…

I’ve got a leg of lamb going in the slow cooker, when I finish this post, I’ll be shredding it up for something like homemade souvlaki/kebab/lamb wrap thingos.
And I picked these from the two tomato plants. (Where else would they come from)
Scintillating stuff here at Bea’s place…

Sunday Snippets
Poor lonely blog. Tumbleweeds rolling through. Cobwebs everywhere.
I keep meaning to join in on the Sunday Snippets theme but I’m never organised enough. Or it’s completely boring around these here parts so I have nothing to show. Recently Tinniegirl mentioned that we could include snippets from the week gone past, so I thought that might give me more scope to be less boring and a bit more organised. Let’s see if I have enough stick-to-it-ive-ness to follow through with more than just this one post….
This is what’s been happening at Bea’s place this week. This is the good stuff. I will spare you:
- the husband with pneumonia story
- the eldest kid with ‘possible’ Bronchial issues/Pneumonia (doctor to confirm tomorrow)
- end of year taxi-ing to various events (end of school things/course confirmations/primary school graduation coupled with the doctor visits/medical imaging centres/chemist runs)

I hope you’ve all had a great week and you’re coping with the end of year crazies.

Creative Space – September 1, 2011
I haven’t played along with Our Creative Spaces in such a long time. That’s not to say I haven’t been creative, I just haven’t had the motivation to blog about it.
Youngest has Celebration Week coming up at school. On the last day, all the children (and staff) dress up as either a character from the picture story book they themselves have created for Celebration Week, or a character from their favourite book. Youngest had the idea to be Annabeth from the Percy Jackson series.
So, I made the t-shirt, then used the photocopier to enlarge the design, and freezer paper and paint for the stencilling.
I am super pleased with how it turned out. It’s laying on her bed so she’ll see it as soon as she gets in from school. I think she’ll be impressed.
Brother Wayne, surely everyone loves bunting?
Since I last posted, we’ve welcomed a new member into our home.
His name is Brother Wayne:

Today, I have a sick little person home from school, so while she’s been couching it and watching movies, I made something for the Middle kid.
Using instructions from Spotlight, I made a pillow case. But not just any ordinary pillow case. A reverse applique bunting pillow case! Middle kid squealed when she walked in from school and saw it on her bed.
And now I will have to make one for the other two kids.
The Hottie Challenge
A couple of weeks ago, CurlyPops put out a call for a special crafty adventure called The Hottie Challenge.
So I signed up for it, then forgot to send my address details to her, so she had to put on her Admin hat and remind me …. and anyway.. to cut a long and boring story short — I finished my Hottie cover today.
When I woke up this morning, Friday was looking like it was going to be a DUD day. I decided that all the things I HAD to do could just bloody well wait and I was going to craft. So I decided to get onto my Hottie Challenge. My “manifesto” (if you will) was to:
a/ finish it today
b/ only use supplies that I had on hand – no going to Spotlight
and c/ to try something new (so I got out my free motion foot thingo for the Janome that I haven’t used aside from a quick test run).
I really love what I did and have a bit of a craft-induced big head now. Here it is (I love colour, the inside lining (no picture sorry) is a rainbow striped print):
Please go and read all about The Hottie Challenge at Cam’s site.
