It isn’t often a romance series ends before I am actually done with it. Usually, I get tired of a series before it actually wraps up (looking at you Sherrilyn Kenyon). But not in the case of Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series. I have read just about all of the books and have been anxiously awaiting the final story.
Unfortunately, I feel like all my “reviewing” or critiquing skills left me a long time ago. This is mostly a feelings review. And my feelings are both sad and happy when it comes to this final story.
It is absolutely always a pleasure to revisit the intricate and beautiful world of the Guild Hunters and angels. This book is no different. The love between Elena and Raphael is as luscious and deep as ever. However, it’s not totally smooth sailing (as that would make for a boring story). Feuds are brewing again, power shifts are happening and some archangels are facing new challenges. Scary challenges.
It would not be a Nalini Singh book without some happiness though and this story features a lot of happiness and joy. I love that the fear can be outweighed by the promise of hope and joy in these stories. I also thoroughly loved revisiting the beloved characters that populate this world. I’m pretty sure most readers will be satisfied with seeing past characters return and pop up in unexpected ways.
I cried a lot in this book. I am going to be totally honest. It felt like leaving a beloved friend by the time it was all done. I didn’t expect to feel the way I did. I expect subsequent re-reads will elicit similar emotions. It felt really lovely to see this story and its characters end on a high note, especially when the real world is pretty awful nowadays. The power of good romance fiction remains strong with Nalini Singh. I hope maybe someday she will choose to revisit this world in some way. If for nothing else so we can get more beautiful angel covers! These covers are works of art and I am so so thankful they never seemed to have gone the “cartoon” route. Thank the Lord!
Archangel’s Eternity is really the perfect wrap-up to this series. It will leave you wanting to dive back in to book one (which I immediately did after finishing the final) and seeing how it all began.
Thank you to the publisher for providing an e-galley of this book.
