Hi,
Please don’t just jump to filing a negative review; it’s really discouraging for plugin authors, and provides no real help to others either. There’s a support forum here: http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/updraftplus
UpdraftPlus successfully backs up websites as large as 14Gb (and probably larger – I’ve not tried larger ones, and there’s no “phone home”). So your problem will probably be easy to identify if you file in the support forum. At this stage, you can’t know if the problem is with the plugin, or your web hosting, or operator error.
Best wishes,
David@david Anderson – the issue is the user has cheap hosting. Just take a look at his history of comments/plugin ratings – the pattern is very obvious when you look at what does and does not work on his website/server == cheap hosting/not a reputable decent host. The point == his server failed/not the UpdraftPlus plugin or of course any of the other plugins this user believes are failing because the plugin’s themselves have a problem/issue – != plugins == cheap web host. 😉
sorry i just could not resist doing it. 😉
$cheap_hosting = $has_cheap_host ? 'more-problems' : 'problems';Never had any complaints about the hosting. Works perfectly, unlike the plug-in.
“…As well as all other similar plugins…”
I do not want to offend you, but I see that you have a common pattern that clearly shows that something is wrong with your server (maybe it is not cheap hosting, but something is definitely not right). A large number of plugins do not work on your particular server for some reason. So really the point is you would look at the common denominator in an equation like this and not just assume that most WordPress plugins don’t work. They work for most other folks so you should take that into consideration when looking at the entire big picture. Just a thought. 😉
In my experience it is very, very rare that a plugin does not work on my web host server.
I meant, only plug-ins for backup. I’ve tried a few similar plugins, including commercial. The problem is the same everywhere – all is well until the size of the backup does not exceed 400-500 MB. Then, the plug-in or hangs, or fails.
Ok so after checking with your web host about file size/dump limitations on your particular server, what did your host say was the max limit for backup dumps/files?
– all is well until the size of the backup does not exceed 400-500 MB.
UpdraftPlus is engineered to cope with that:
- Go to the ‘Settings’ tab
- Click on the ‘expert settings’ link at the bottom.
- Change the “split” size from its default of 500Mb down to something much smaller – try 100Mb at first.
- Run a fresh backup.
- If it fails, post your log file in the support forum.
Best wishes,
DavidThanks for the advice. I will try.
My question above seemed more like a statement after re-reading it. The point I was trying to make was that maybe there are limitations on your server that you are maxing out/exceeding. Like memory, resources, file size limitations, etc. A quick chat with your host would get you that answer and if it is some kind of server config problem then the server logs would show the errors for whatever the problem is that is occurring.
Did it work?
Hi,
Did this option work for you?
Best wishes,
DavidGlad you got it working – thank you for changing the review!
