Ads on WordPress.com

Last reviewed on December 4, 2025

Free sites on WordPress.com display advertisements to help keep your site free. This guide explains these ads and how to remove them.

About our ads

Free WordPress.com websites include ads. Displaying ads helps us pay the bills and keep your site free.

WordPress.com works with a variety of partners and products to run advertising on WordPress.com sites. We are always testing out new partners, products, and strategies to balance ad revenue with user experience.

The ads seen by your viewers are determined by their location, browsing history, page content, and other factors. We vet our advertising partners and sign agreements with each to ensure they will not display mature or illegal content or an array of other prohibited creative content.

Sometimes, however, site owners and visitors might still see ads they personally object to — for example, ads for products they oppose. We do not endorse the content of any ad, and we encourage site owners to inform their audience that ads are not selected by you, but rather are provided by WordPress.com or our third-party advertising partners.

Site owners and visitors can also often block specific ad creatives for themselves via the ad choices icon in the corner of the ad.

Remove ads from your site

To remove ads from your site, upgrade to any paid plan. As a paying customer, we will not show ads on your site.

Make money from ads on your site

If your site has a Premium plan or above, you can choose to place ads on your site for you to earn money from. You can go to Jetpack → Monetize, click on the “Ads” tab and then “Settings” to switch ads on or off.
