Stanley was born in Reading in 1894, the son of George and Florence Earl. In 1901, they were living in Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire, along with Stanley’s siblings George E., Mabel B., Minnie B. and Hilda M. They had moved to Wolverhampton by 1911, and were living at 41 Clifford Street, along with Stanley’s additional siblings Florry, Dorothy and Ronald. Stanley was working as a clerk.
Stanley appears to have served with the South Staffordshire Regiment as a Lance Sergeant (service number 2995) and with the Machine Gun Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was awarded the Victory Medal, British War Medal and 15 Star. Stanley survived the war and married Elsie Clara Annie Pitt in Wolverhampton in 1919. The couple had two children – Donald George Monk (1921) and Betty D. (1923), both born in Wolverhampton. Stanley died in Cambridge on 1 August 1955.
