Leonard (sometimes known as Leonard Thomas) was born in Wolverhampton in 1889, the son of James T. and Mary A. Wilson. By 1901, they had moved to Aston, where they lived with Leonard’s siblings Herbert G., Laura A., Bertha R. and Marion O. By 1911, Leonard was serving with the 1st Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment (number 7804) in Arabia, Cyprus and Gibraltar.
He disembarked with the D Company on 4 October 1914, but was wounded, and died of those wounds on 3 November 1914. He is buried at Poperinghe Old Military Cemetery in Belgium.
The son of Joseph and Georgina Holmes, Joseph was born in Wolverhampton in 1889. His mother died in 1899, so by 1901 Joseph was living with his widowed father and siblings Edith, William, Daisy and Dora at 261 Bilston Road, Wolverhampton. He enlisted with the 1st Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment (number 7853), so by 1911 he was a Lance-Corporal in the army, stationed at Arabia, Cyprus and Gibraltar.
John was born in Wolverhampton in about 1890, the son of John and Eliza Hughes. In 1901, he was living with his now-widowed mother on Lower Horseley Fields, Wolverhampton, together with his sister Mary and brother Thomas. His mother remarried in Wolverhampton in 1907 to Addison Cocking. The same year, John enlisted with the 1st Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment (number 7731), and was serving in Arabia, Cyprus and Gibraltar in 1911.
