This week our host for Tanka Tuesday is Yvette . As a middle school teacher, she is now on summer vacation. Summer, for Yvette is all about rest, rejuvenation, and vacation! So, she wants us to explore writing a poem about our favorite type of vacation.
For this week, write a poem about a vacation of your choosing. If you are in the Northern Hemisphere, use a kigo word connected with the summer. For our Southern Hemisphere friends, use one connected with winter. Or, if your favorite type of vacation is in a different season, find a kigo word that matches that season. Use a syllabic poetry form that works for you, and let your inspiration flow. Need help finding a form? Click here.
PLEASE NOTE:
Our hosts spend a lot of time creating these challenges. Please follow the directions carefully. Create your poetry using the prompt suggested by the host. Remember, this is a challenge for you to create a syllabic poem using the prompt instructions. If the prompt doesn’t inspire you, that’s okay. Please don’t submit a poem that doesn’t meet the criteria of the prompt. Thanks for your consideration. ~Colleen~
I have had some amazing holidays but my mind went back to when our boys were small.

The form I chose is the Double Ennead . Which comprises five lines with a syllable count of 6/5/11/6/5, (33 SYLLABLES per stanza) 3 STANZAS EACH = 99 SYLLABLES, NO MORE, NO LESS! You can add rhyme schemes or not. My kigo words, sun burn, beach, sun shine, sea.
Sun Sea Sand and Maddona
Please take me back in time
Let me sit and watch
Baby boy charms the staff singing Madonna.
Middle one brown as the
Natives on the beach.
Eldest, red hair ,blue eyes
Pale skin, sun burns fast.
They explore finding adventure everywhere.
Climbing high, digging deep.
Smiling faces shine
Always laughing eyes bright
Late nights they sleep tight
Chase them on hot sand we fall into the sea.
Happy days remember
Let me sit and watch.
Our youngest who was four years old loved Maddona’s La Isla Bonita. He delighted all the staff in the hotel by constantly singing the song word for word . The hotel we were staying in, in Malta had long echoing hallways which carried his voice. We often had staff join us to sing and dance with him .
